April 1979

Spring break started on April 8th. It was a busy week. On Monday, I went to Melanie’s to see Michelle, who was visiting. She was dating someone, and they’d been going out for a few months. She seemed quite happy, and I was happy that she was happy. The other good news was that Melanie had been cleared to drive. Michelle and I shared a nice hug and a gentle kiss before I left.

On Tuesday, Joyce and I had our dinner date. We went to the apartment, and she cooked. We talked about our relationship and about our needs, our desires, our fears, and our goals. And we necked. I had a great time. We also made plans for her Prom. I still hadn’t figured out the answer to the question from our last conversation. I knew I had to do that before I could be the husband and father I hoped to be, to her or to anyone.

Jennifer and I got together at her house on Wednesday with Sarah. Her parents were out for the day and we spent a few hours fooling around. As much fun as it was, something was missing. I wasn’t sure what it was, either. When Sarah left, Jennifer and I talked about it.

“Something’s missing when Sarah’s here,” I said.

“You seemed to enjoy it,” Jennifer replied.

“Physically, yeah, but something is missing.”

“The only difference from last time is Melanie’s not here, but she didn’t participate.”

“Maybe it was new last time, and that masked whatever it is I’m feeling is missing. Can I ask that except for Melanie, we keep it just to you and me? You can include Melanie any time you want once Prom is over, but no more with Sarah or anyone else.”

“It seems like you’re trying to figure things out, and I think that’s a good thing.”

“Thanks for understanding!”

On Thursday, Larry and I spent the day together playing chess, pool, and video games on the Atari. Friday I went to Good Friday services, on Saturday, Jennifer came over and we spent the day just being together.

After church on Easter Sunday, we hosted the extended family gathering. Stephanie, Vickie, and I hung out together, as had become the norm. I asked Vickie about her neighbor and she gave me a huge smile.

“A couple days after I was here, I saw he was home alone. I went over and started talking to him. I flirted with him quite a bit, and a few days later, when he was home alone, he took me to bed. It was fantastic. I like it better with you, but I can’t complain and this guy I can have way more often! That’s especially true, given that you’re leaving.”

I just nodded. It looked like the situation had resolved itself nicely.

On the Monday following Easter, I received my invitation to Jennie’s wedding, which was going to be on May 26th. I put it on the calendar I kept in my parents’ office and mentioned it to Dad. I was concerned about mom’s reaction to me walking Jennie down the aisle so I told my dad that Mrs. McGrath had asked me to be in the wedding party. He said that was very nice of her and didn’t see a problem. I’d need to clear it with Mom.

I showed her the invitation and told her about being asked to be in the wedding. She was surprised at that and said she would talk to Mrs. McGrath on Sunday to ‘get to the bottom of this strange request’. I knew I needed to talk to Jennie before mom did because if mom found out the real request, she’d freak out and become hysterical about why I would be asked.

I went to my room and dialed Jennie’s number and talked to her. She said she’d handle it the way I suggested, realizing that the request would seem a bit odd.

A week after Easter was my birthday. My mom didn’t want me to have a party for my friends, but thankfully Dad overruled her. I invited Jennifer, Melanie, Joyce, Larry, Beth, Brent, Ralph, Bethany, Janet, and Sarah. I invited Ed Krajick, which Stephanie loved and Mom hated; I considered that a perfect result. We all had a good time, and I let Stephanie run things again. She enjoyed having Ed at her beck and call, and he followed her around like a lost puppy.

April 27, 1979

I dressed in my rented traditional black tuxedo and pinned on my boutonniere, and waited for Joyce to pick me up. When I had been to the store, I had seen all manner of brightly colored tuxedos, shirts, ties, and cummerbunds, but something just appealed to me about the traditional look. I had selected a traditional white shirt as well as a gray bowtie and cummerbund. My black fedora complimented the tuxedo.

I had discussed with Dad an extension of my curfew so that Joyce and I could go to an after-Prom party in Loveland. My curfew for nights when I didn’t have school the next day had been changed to midnight when I turned sixteen. He said I could stay out until 1:30am so that we could be at the party about two-and-half hours. Mom was apparently furious, but she said nothing.

Stephanie came into the living room, where I was waiting.

“Wow, Big Brother, you look really good in that tux!”

“Yeah, but you prefer me out of it!” I smirked.

I saw the twinkle in her eye and just smiled.

Joyce arrived to pick me up. I grabbed my bag that had jeans, a polo, and sneakers I was going to change into for the party and walked out to her car. She wore a royal blue, strapless, form-fitting gown. She held out her hand, and I put on the wrist corsage on her. We were meeting two friends of hers at a private club in Loveland for dinner. The Prom itself was being held in a banquet hall. We’d go from there to the party. The first stop, though, was her house because her mom wanted to take pictures. I hoped Connie would behave.

She didn’t. She stood behind her mom, licking her lips suggestively, winking, and otherwise trying to annoy Joyce. I ignored her, but I could tell Joyce was fuming. When the pictures were done, I pulled Joyce aside and pleaded with her just to ignore it. I was sure that Joyce getting upset would only encourage Connie further. I decided that if Connie said anything directly, I’d answer her, so long as there were no parents around.

When Joyce and I walked back outside, Connie followed us. I had my response ready.

“Just come back here after Prom,” Connie said sexily. “I’ll do ANYTHING you want and you can do ANYTHING you want with me!”

“Connie, you know what? I wouldn’t touch you. Ever. And do you know why? Because you disgust me. You seem to think being vulgar will attract me. It doesn’t. Not at all. It’s a total turn off. I like subtle seduction, not offers to fuck. So just stop. It will never happen. Never!”

She had a shocked look on her face.

“Just go back inside, Connie,” I said sternly, then added, “Good night.”

I saw a tear roll down her face as she ran back inside.

“Sorry,” I said, “but I had to put a stop to it. I believe I just did.”

“Thanks. I hope that does put an end to it.”

We went to dinner, and it was very much like when I had gone to the dance with Bethany — service that was close to oppressive with fantastic food. Joyce paid over my objections; she insisted on it because it was her Prom and she had invited me. After dinner, we drove to the banquet hall where the dance was being held.

The hall was full of flowers and streamers. We had our picture taken under a trellis and Joyce promised to send me a copy once she received them. We found seats with some friends of hers. The DJ hadn’t started, so we went and got some cake, cookies, and punch from the refreshment table. We chatted with her friends and their dates. One of the dates was a US Navy Petty Officer in full dress whites. He’d graduated two years earlier. They’d been a couple for close to five years and they were getting engaged tonight at the Prom.

Joyce had told me she didn’t intend to share me with anyone that evening, which was OK with me, because I didn’t know anyone there. We danced almost every song. The first slow song was When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman by Doctor Hook. I wasn’t sure what Joyce wanted, so I hesitated. She stepped in very close to me and put her arms around me, pulling me tight. I put my arms around her and pulled tight as well, and we swayed back and forth to the music.

“Got something in your pocket?” Joyce giggled.

“I suppose you can check if you like,” I said sexily.

“Maybe I will!” she said firmly.

That was a revelation. We hadn’t discussed altering our relationship when I was last alone with her, and of course we couldn’t really talk at my birthday party. I remembered to assume nothing and expect nothing. When they played the next slow song, a new one by Journey, Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’ she did the same, but put her hands on my butt and pulled me close. I put mine on hers and she didn’t object. The last song they played was How Deep Is Your Love and Joyce held me as tightly as she could.

“I’m going to miss you when you’re away,” she whispered in my ear.

“I’ll miss you as well.”

“I want to make this Prom a night to remember, just in case.”

“In case what?”

“I think you know,” she said.

I knew. In case I couldn’t figure it out. In case I did figure it out, but chose Jennifer. In case I met someone else.

“Whatever you want,” I said softly, pressing our bodies tighter.

We finished the dance and when the music ended, we didn’t break our embrace. Joyce moved her head, and we kissed softly. She released me, took my hand, and led me out to the car. The after-Prom party would start immediately, but we wanted to change. We drove back to Joyce’s house and quickly changed. I noticed Connie sitting on the couch, looking upset. She didn’t even acknowledge us. I took that as a good sign and felt she’d get over it fairly quickly. At least I hoped that she would.

We drove to the party with me dressed in jeans and a polo and her in jeans and print blouse. We went inside and I took a Coke and Joyce a Sprite. We mingled a bit as guests continued to arrive. I had no idea what Joyce’s plan was, but we had just under three hours before we had to leave to take me home.

Joyce excused herself for a moment and went to the kitchen. She returned a moment later and took my hand. She led me upstairs past a sign that asked everyone to stay on the ground floor or in the basement. She turned right at the top of the stairs and then opened the first door to the right, which led into what appeared to me to be a guest bedroom. Joyce led me inside, then shut and locked the door. She made sure the blinds were closed, then turned on a lamp on the table next to the bed. She grabbed a blanket from the closet and put it along the door that she had just locked. Then she turned down the bed.

“Jill says we won’t be disturbed at all. Her parents won’t come up during the party, and even if they do, the door is closed and locked like it’s supposed to be. Jill unlocked it for me earlier.”

I just stood and waited to see what she had in mind.

“I know I told you that we were done having sex until you figured things out. I’ve thought a lot about it over the last month or so. I still have reservations, but I decided I wanted my Prom to be special.”

“Being with you is special for me.”

“And being with you is special for me, too. But, I want more than just dinner and dancing. Is that OK?”

“I said earlier we’d do whatever you want.”

“Good. I want it all. Everything,” she said shyly.

I wasn’t sure exactly what she was referring to, so I once again remained silent.

“Connie was wrong, at least for tonight. Tonight I’ll do anything you want and you can do anything you want for me. No restrictions.”

“Joyce, that’s not you,” I protested.

She spoke softly, “It isn’t, but it is. I need, at least once, to push the limits, to be uninhibited, to be wild. This is my best chance. If I’m going to do this, it has to be with someone I trust completely, someone who knows me and someone who will stop if I change my mind. And it has to be with someone who has done it all. When you come back from Sweden, who knows what will happen. Plus, I’ll be going to college. So tonight I want it all, everything. Anything.”

“You know me. You know how I handle things.”

“I do. Let me put it this way. If you’ve done it with Jennifer, do it with me. Tonight. Now. I know what that means. I said, no limits. Everything.”

I realized when she was serious when she produced a small bottle of baby oil from her pocket, as well as a baggie that appeared to contain some kind of moist towelettes. She set them both on the nightstand next to the bed.

“Are you sure?”

“Will you just shut the hell up and fuck me every which way?” she said firmly as she began to remove her clothing.

I did the same, and we stood there naked, looking at each other. We each stepped forward, and we met in an embrace. We exchanged soft gentle kisses as our hands explored our backs and butts, with her breasts and my dick crushed between us. Our kisses became more urgent, and I pushed my hand between us to run my finger along her labia, already wet with excitement.

I thought about her request and decided if she wanted to be naughty, I’d be naughty. There were words I rarely used, and other words I basically never used. Joyce would hear them all.

“Do you want me to fuck your tight pussy?”

“Yes!” she hissed.

“To jam my rock-hard cock into your hot, wet cunt?”

“Oh God, yes, now!” she begged.

I pushed her back on the bed, grabbed her legs, spread them and stood before her with my dick at her entrance. I took a deep breath and simply jammed it into her, sinking completely into her wetness. Joyce moaned softly. I pulled back until I was mostly out and slammed my hips forward, eliciting another moan. I pounded her hard and fast.

“Pinch your nipple and rub your clit!” I commanded.

She moved one hand to her left breast and began tweaking her nipple while her other hand diddled her clit.

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 60 Prom and Pomp and Circumstance Part I

April/May 1981 — Milford/Cincinnati, Ohio When I woke up on Sunday morning, I called Karin, then swam and ate breakfast with Stephanie. When Dad got up, I thanked him profusely for allowing the party and for keeping Mom away from us. He told me he was quite pleased with our behavior, and that, as he’d expected, there had been no fights, no booze or drugs, and that we’d left everything spotless. He warned me that Mom might say something to me about it and reminded me to just keep my cool. I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

Batwoman meets Catwoman Part Two

Holly crept up behind Kate with instinctive ease, then like some guard dog she bit on Kate's cunt then chewed playfully on her flesh through her latex while her hands shot forward, and grabbed Kate's tits. She let out a deep, long moan that resonated through the latex into Kate's cunt as latex covered flesh muffled it. She couldn't resist Kate's succulent position one moment, and she wanted some of that sweet pussy so badly! "Ahhhhhhhhhhh...., uuuhhhhh....,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

June 15, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “That’s everything, I think,” I said. “My luggage is in the trunk of the car, I have my passport, tickets, and money, both dollars and yen. I can’t think of anything else.” “I’ll see you in five weeks,” Elyse said, giving me a quick hug. “Did you see they rioted in Vancouver last night because they lost the Stanley Cup?” I chuckled, “Only Canadians would riot when they LOSE the Cup! I did see that on the front page of the Trib. Are we ready?” “Michelle and...

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

August 1981, Chicago, Illinois On Sunday morning, I made my usual call to Karin. I described everything in the apartment and all the things I’d done during the week, including the reception. Both of us would start school in a week and we were both looking forward to it. When we finished talking, I went out for my run, showered, and ate breakfast. I made some tea, started a load of laundry, and then turned on the stereo. I put on an REO Speedwagon album and then relaxed on the couch with the...

August 21, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Unbelievable,” I said when I read the headline from the Chicago Tribune. “It says here that Solidarity activist Tadeusz Mazowiecki was nominated to be Prime Minister of Poland.” I hadn’t had a chance to read the paper on Sunday because it hadn’t been delivered before we left for the race track in Michigan. “So now what?” Kara asked. “We’re in totally uncharted territory. July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

I missed you!” “Hi, Babe!” We hugged and kissed more than we normally did when we met at the ER after her shift, then she hugged and kissed Kara, and the three of us started our walk home. “How was San Francisco?” Jessica asked. “Good. The User Group meeting went very well, I saw my old boss and professor, Scott Bannerman, and Bethany and I had a lot of time to talk.” “If all you did with her is talk, I’m not sure I want to go back to the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 35 An Interview and Some New Friends

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 21 Georg and Maria

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 9 KamiChapter 38 And Sometimes It Stinks To Be Big

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 8 NIKAChapter 68 The Rules

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

December 5, 2000, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota “I had a good time last night,” I said. “I was surprised you invited a friend!” Mary laughed as we walked into the exam room, “Naomi had a good time as well. You know what a Resident’s life is like.” I nodded, “No social life.” “Exactly. You guys seemed to hit it off pretty well.” “Yes, but I’m not here for that!” “You’re everywhere for that, and you know it!” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s just say that you hit the sweet spot -...

November 4, 1995, Milford, Ohio “Good morning,” Doctor Mercer said when I arrived. “Morning, Doc. How are you?” “Good. And you?” “Pretty good. As I said, I just felt the need for a check-up.” “Well, have a seat.” “I always wondered about using the chair versus the couch,” I said. “It depends on the patient. You want to look me in the eyes and want me to be very direct. You don’t go for subtlety or carefully dancing around the issues. That annoys you as much as me being blunt would...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...

April 5, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “You missed cuddles this morning!” Birgit said accusingly when I walked into the house about 9:30am. “I know, Pumpkin, but I had a work emergency and had to go see Aunt Joyce and Grandpa A.” “And now we have to get ready for karate!” “I know. We’ll have some family time this afternoon. I don’t have any plans.” “Good!” I hugged her and the rest of the kids, then went to find Kara. We hugged and kissed, and went straight upstairs to get ready for...

September 3, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “Good morning, Sensei,” I said, bowing to Sensei Jim. “Good morning!” he said waving me to a chair in his office. “How was your trip?” I asked. “Enlightening. I spent most of my time acting as a manservant to Sensei Robert and Sensei Hiro.” “He who will lead, must first serve,” I said. “Someday, I’m going to send you to Sensei Hiro, should he live long enough. You understand.” “Does that mean you are now 6th Dan?” I...

October 29, 2000, Chicago, Illinois Birgit followed me as far as the stairs, then scooted upstairs when I went to the front door and opened it. “Hi!” Sophie said. “Hi!” I replied and held the door open so she could come into the house. I closed the door behind her then led her to my study where I waited until she went in, and then walked in, closing the door behind me. I nodded to one of the wingback chairs, she sat down in one, and I sat down in the other. “Is something wrong?” she...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 61 Anala Part II

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I walked in the near 90°F heat to Carla’s place. I was grateful that the humidity of the morning had dropped significantly; otherwise the heat would have been unbearable. By the time I walked up the steps to the apartment over the photography studio and knocked on her door, I had broken into a light sweat. Carla answered almost immediately and invited me inside her studio apartment. The air was moderately cool, and the window air conditioner was running full...

July 1982, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I kissed Kara goodbye and headed to my parents’ house for my usual morning routine with my little sister. She was happy that I could spend the morning with her and asked to take a walk, so we weren’t in the house with my mom. “Let me guess — this walk will end in the clearing,” I said with a smile. “Yes,” she said, taking my hand as we walked down Overlook towards Klondyke. As usual, we turned around and walked back, taking the path to the...

March 13, 1994, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Steve!” Ailea said when she opened the door. “Hi,” I replied, accepting the offered hug. There was no touching of lips, just of cheeks, and I wondered if I’d misread her intentions at her birthday lunch, or if, perhaps, she detected my reluctance to return the offered affection. “Lunch is ready, so go ahead and sit. I’ll bring it in from the kitchen.” I went to the low table, sat down, and a minute later, Ailea brought miso soup and sushi, our usual...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 72 An Explosive Discovery

April 3, 1997, Dallas, Texas “Remember what I said about drinking too much,” I said, as I poured bourbon into three cups. We’d stopped at a liquor store, bought a bottle of Blanton’s, and then returned to the small suite I’d reserved at the Westin. Deborah’s room was down the hall, and Krissy’s was two floors below. Krissy’s comment had caught me a bit off guard, but I hadn’t reacted visibly. I didn’t know her quite well enough to know if she’d been teasing with Deborah, so I was being...

March 28, 1991, Chicago, Illinois “This day belongs to you, Kara!” I said when the three of us woke on Thursday morning. “Happy birthday!” Jessica said. “Thanks,” Kara replied happily. “I think I’d like an amazing birthday fuck from our husband, and then a nice loving shower with my wife!” Kara said. “Do we have enough time?” I asked. Jessica giggled, “I set the alarm for thirty minutes earlier!” “Then let’s not waste any of it!” I said pulling Kara to me. Kara’s squeals as I plunged...

September 1, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I heard that you have some kind of plan to help Ed,” I said to Connie. “There’s no plan,” she replied. “A witness who saw the shopkeeper alive after Ed left came forward.” That sounded convenient, and I wondered if the witness was real or someone that Anthony had put forward to solve the problem. Certainly, the videotape was real, because I couldn’t imagine how Anthony could have faked that, but the witness? Who knew? “So is he being released? Or is...

August 17, 1997, Chicago, Illinois We finished lunch and Marissa and the younger kids went to play, but Natalie sat with the adults to talk, with coffee, tea, or soft drinks. The Sarcus were very comfortable, but the Heaths were still struggling. But, vitally, they hadn’t left and hadn’t insisted Natalie leave the group. “Can you explain how you developed this attitude and approach?” Chris asked. I nodded, “It started when I was just a bit younger than Natalie. My mom was a total control...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 6 A Tale of Three Cities Part III

July 1979 — Falkenberg, Sweden On Friday, when I got back from my run, Pam was in her bra and panties again. I whistled at her, she giggled, then finished dressing. I showered, and we went to breakfast and finished up our last day. Once class was done, we were pretty much free. On Saturday, we’d have several optional activities and then on Sunday we’d head back to our host families. After dinner on Friday, I took Pam’s hand and we walked towards the river. It was quiet and peaceful, and...

July 1980, Over the North Atlantic We reached cruising altitude, and I settled back to read my book. Pam raised the armrest between us, snuggled close to me and read as well. The cabin crew offered drinks, and I had my first Coke in a year! Meal service began about an hour and a half into the flight. After the cabin crew picked up the trays and offered drinks again, they passed once more, offering headsets for the movie. Trevor and Maria took them, but Pam and I didn’t, instead we turned on...

I told her all about Josh and asked that she be friends with him. She laughed and said that of course she would. November 8, 1993, Chicago, Illinois A dark fog swirled before my eyes as I tried to take stock. My head hurt, badly. I felt something on my face and realized, dimly, it was an oxygen mask. My right hand was uncomfortable and I recognized the feeling of an IV and pulse-oximeter. My left arm ached fiercely. On my chest I felt the pads and wires of an EKG. I didn’t feel anything else wrong as I continued taking inventory. I tried to open my eyes, but the fog didn’t clear. I tried to speak, but...

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois In the morning Anala and I ran as we had the previous time, then showered together, carefully washing each other’s bodies in an intimate but non-sexual way. After our shower we went to the kitchen and I made breakfast and we sat down to eat. “Steve, may I make a suggestion?” she asked. “Sure.” “Broaden your circle of friends. Other than me, all of you are white, nominally Christian, 20-year-old Americans. And you don’t invite me to your Sunday...
