By the time Allison had gotten everybody to put on clothes, she realized that their apparent depression was not just from hangovers, but had to do with leaving their home. She changed her tactics immediately.
"You know, children, we aren't leaving here forever. It's like you are now coming to visit my home after I've visited yours. You always have the option to come back. Don't let your spirits go down before you've even seen what's out there. And, don't worry, we aren't going to leave right away. We've got a lot to learn from Aunt Amy, and do some planning."
They all heard Emmeline shouting as she ran toward them. "Gran' Mommy, Mommy, Daddy, they're coming! I saw the boat on its way toward us."
Later, down on the shore, they were all lined up as Captain Sanchez ordered the coxswain to run the launch up onto the white sand beach. Amy was up in the bow along with the Captain. "We had no problems, Allison. We're all set to go back whenever you say. I figured you would need a few days to get ready, so I had the cook bake bread and brought you some more supplies just in case. How are you, and did you manage alright while we were gone?"
After Allison had given him assurances that all went well, he turned to shake the hand of each of her children and grandchildren. The coxswain merely bowed his head to acknowledge them all. Amy announced that she had new clothes that would fit this time. "Most," she said, "are on the ship, but there was no sense in bringing them ashore. They're for travelling."
The supplies were unloaded and everybody began carrying the boxes up to the hut. As they walked up the beach, Allison spoke more with the captain about when they would be ready for departure. She thought it could be in a couple of days, but was not sure. He could return each day at high tide as before. She would be more specific by tomorrow. The captain understood, and told Allison there was no hurry unless the weather should change.
Everybody took it easy at the hut while Amy and the Captain related some stories of their return journey. It had been relatively uneventful. They also talked about the war in Vietnam getting bigger with many casualties. So far, they estimated that there should be no problem with flights when they got back to the Philippines. The number of U.S. troops was being augmented higher and higher with no end in sight. Allison was glad that Nathan was of an age not likely to be drafted. Registering might be another thing he might have to do on returning, but she didn't know.
Kathy fixed a late lunch for everybody before the Captain had to return to the ship. He would come back at high tide again tomorrow to check on their progress and a more specific departure time. He knew Allison and Amy would have to get everybody ready so he reiterated that there was no hurry. After about three hours ashore, everybody accompanied the two men back down to the launch where another round of amenities took place with hugs and hand shakes.
Once the launch had disappeared, the standing group of five looked at each other in silence with all gazes finally falling on Amy. She unbuttoned her blouse, threw it off, and shouted, "Let's get comfortable!"

Allison, who had been in Honolulu, thought she had booked into a resort hotel since she had referred to luxurious accommodations. However, Amy was able to explain it well enough to calm Allison's anxiety. She said that this island was not only the largest, but the most distant from the tourist trade. When Amy was finished with the basic details of what she had done, Allison went over to give her another hug, saying, "You done good, Amy."
Emmeline, Hannah, and Kathy watched this. It must have been amusing for them to see their tall grandmother/mother embrace Aunt Amy. "What about Captain Sanchez and the crew? They know about the situation--at least he does."

Allison got in a word to say, "Actually, Nathan IS their uncle as well as their father, right?"
The discussion that followed was probably more educational detail about familial relationships than the girls had ever been exposed to up to this point. At the same time, since they had never lived among other people, it did not have the shock value it might have if they had been brought up in regular society. As far as they were concerned, life was as they had lived it without problems. Since their grandmother and aunt seemed to be a willing part of it, they really were not bothered. Amy had been spending so much time in answering questions and trying to explain what all was going to happen that she had forgotten what nights like this had been like during her previous stay.
Kathy and Nathan were sitting together with a little separation from the girls.
