One side benefit of the drugged kids is that they were easier for the doctors and nurses. Say you have an abusive parent that decides they are going to drag you out of there. They have to get past many levels of people that make the nastiest bastards in this world run in fear. Now, if you choose to leave, you walk right out the front gate. It is a safe place for kids placed in foster care and orphans.”
“Yeah. I heard that before,” a guy piped up to say.
“As I already said, if what I am providing doesn’t work for you, we will get you loaded up to head out on your own or with a group of you that want to leave,” I explained. “Any more questions or comments? No? Ok, so as I was saying. Each complex has one of the top hospitals in the world, staffed by the best doctors in the world, which we pay better than anywhere else they could work. Our mental health department is staffed in the same way. You all have baggage. The doctors are there day and night to talk to anytime you want, without judging you. Oh, you will all go to school. There isn’t any exception to that requirement. What you take will have to meet the state requirements, but you can do all the high school subjects as quickly as possible. We always have at least one teacher available around the clock, all year long. If you want to go in the middle of the night, then that is up to you.”
“Great. School prison,” the same guy said.
I went over to him, sat down in front of him, and told him, “You aren’t going to believe a damn thing I say. I get it, and I don’t blame you in the least. Can you at least chill out a bit so I can tell everyone else, and we can get back on the road?”
“Yeah, sure,” he replied.
“That was the crappy part. I get it. Now, for the part that you will like much better,” I said. “You will each be living in a suite with an adult chaperone, mentor, or whatever you want to call them. They have their own private space off of the shared eating and lounging part of the suite. They won’t come into the children’s common area that connects to the share eating area unless there is a problem. Each kid gets a private room and bathroom. The doors lock, and if you want to have a sleepover with a girl or guy, you can, as long as it is consensual, and they aren’t more than two years difference in age. Any force, blackmailing, or other bullshit, and you are likely to find your ass kicked. So that you know, we will be keeping your DNA on file. No law enforcement will ever be able to crack our computer security to get at it, and any warrants have to go through the right channels and get denied anyway. Why? We use it to find out if you have any cousins or siblings that may happen to be at one of the other complexes to move them to where you can live in the same place. Another thing we have done is to track down your extended family, so you can talk with them to decide if you want to live with them or stay at the complex. Oh, I almost forgot. The kids at my first complex got tired of saying no when people hit on them, or they just weren’t in the mood. I don’t know all the changes, but it will be apparent if they are up for something or not. No means no, without question. There is all the food you want, but with limitations. If it isn’t on the menu or serving line, you aren’t getting it. There is an exception for when they have the grill open in that cafeteria. Another limitation is that you can only have as much as fit on your tray, but you can go back as many times as you want. There is no reason to waste food when your eyes are bigger than your stomach. At least one cafeteria is open all the time. Now I will say that anyone with dietary restrictions must inform the people working on the grill or serving line. The same goes for if your doctor and you decide you need to change things up to lose some weight or you want to build up muscle.”

A small, petite girl, who looked like a pixie, asked, “Why? Why would you do this? What do you get out of it?”
“I get to try to spend as much of the money I am making from all the crap given to me that I can’t sell, only trade for something of the same value, quality, etc. Yes, the state insists that they pay me crazy amounts of money for each child in my care. None of the complexes have spent a dime of it and never will. What they pay for your care goes into a high-yield savings account in your name to give you a head-start on life when you turn eighteen and choose to go out into the world. You don’t have to leave. All that happens when you turn eighteen is that you move from your kid suite into a one-bedroom apartment in the adult building. I want this to be your home and everyone there to become your big family. Yes, kids in families get into fights. We don’t expect everything to go smoothly, but we will step in when needed. Your lives have been shit for only you know how long. If this works for you, then great. Maybe it isn’t a good fit for everyone. We will do our best to help you see if we can make it somewhere that you can be happy, safe, healthy, and at least enjoy some of what remains of your childhood,” I told her. “Oh, birth control is freely available in your suites, no questions asked. You, little girl, need braces. As soon as you can sit still in a dentist’s chair without being sedated, they will put them on. That goes for all of you. No more bullshit about it not being covered by insurance because you don’t have any. I cover everything. We have some procedures, such as sex changes, that require sign-off by the head shrinkers, and you must be at least sixteen and have finished puberty first. When we arrive, the first place you will go to is medical. Unlike most kids, how you came to wake up in a bed on my bus meant got checked from head to toe, and they took some blood to test. “Pretty much, yes,” I told him.
“I think it is some sort of trap, but so far, you already treated me better since before I woke up than anyone else in my life, so it is better than where I was living, even if I have to suck your dick and take it up the ass each day,” he told me.
“Good. Does anyone want to grab a bag and go? If not, guys, piss in the bushes if you need to before we leave. There are only so many toilets on the bus and more girls than guys,” I told them.
I didn’t mean for the girls to piss in the bushes or over in the trees. They don’t seem to care any more than the boys.
We got back on the road, and the guy that had been giving me some shit came into the cab to bring me lunch.
“David,” they told me. “Thank you for having whoever put my clothes in my pod to make them boy clothes. I have acted like a boy all my life because that is what my dad wanted. He got a girl instead. The staff does have to let the chaperone for your suite know. It is for your protection and safety. Plus, they can help hide it from the others when you have bad cramps,” I told her.
She wanted to ride with me for a while. I got her life story. Her dad was a dumbass, but he had taken care of her as best as he was able, even if he treated her like a boy her whole life. She was sound asleep with her head on my leg when I had to stop for fuel, clean out the waste tanks, and fill the water. I didn’t want to wake her. I carefully got her out of the cab and back into the bunk where she slept last night. It was a bit of a pain to get her changed back into pajamas, but her clothes got soaked in sweat while she slept in the cab.
A food service met the bus and had dinner for everyone. None of the kids on the bus seemed to notice that I hadn’t slept or that I driver the whole time. The doctors had, but they decided that I was as alert as any other time when one came to check on me. We arrived at one of the complexes that had just opened last week. These were the first group to come here.
Once the kids were all off the bus, I told them, “I thought we had a long drive to the nearest of my foster care complexes, but this one was ready for kids last week. You are the only kids here so far. After medical, you will get shown to the suites where you will live. If any of you want to live in the same suite, let the administrators know, and they will make it happen. I’m going to test out the cafeteria and then get some sleep. If you want to cuddle up in bed with me, feel free to do so, but be warned, I sleep naked. You girls somehow managed to stay virgins, and my dick isn’t going to change that for you. Once I get rested up and deal with anything they have for me here, I have to get home to my daughter before she gets mad that I didn’t take her on another of my trips.”
With the kids still stuck in medical and, no others moved in yet, I got to hang out in the kitchen while they made lunch. They hadn’t gotten them memo how much I eat when I’m hungry.
“David,” the woman who took care of the complex said. “We have some spots we still need to fill, but we are about fully staffed. The kids you brought in today won’t cause us any issues where we are still short-staffed. I have to say that I still can’t believe they took me from my crap government job and hired me here to run this whole show. You are paying me more in a month than I’ve earned in my life.”
“You spent your entire youth bouncing all around foster homes and orphanages. Once you were an adult, you were doing what you could to help kids keep from having that happen anymore. If you didn’t meet the qualifications, you wouldn’t have this role. We don’t have anyone working here that isn’t the best we could find,” I told her.
There wasn’t anything to do, so I got some food for the road, hopped in my new Lotus, and hit the road.
Bambi’s drop-offs, food breaks, and sleep only had her a hundred miles ahead of me. Knowing where the police were, let me catch up to her when she stopped at a rest stop.
“All that money to teach you how to drive a high-performance car, and you aren’t even halfway home yet,” I teased.
She told me she would have been if she wasn’t playing a taxi service.
“You know what, I will take one, and you can take the other. See who can get home first. We have about the same distance to go,” I offered.
