She gestured from the bed.

She patted his crotch as she passed him on her way to the dresser.

When she was dressed, he held the door for her.
“Take me home, Echo One.”
Her sedan came to a halt at the end of the block where she lived with the Senate minority leader.
“What the hell?”
“Wait here, ma’am. I’ll find out.”
She watched him run to the nearest cop. Echo Three stayed at the wheel. The conversation was brief, and Echo One was back in another moment.
“I have very bad news, ma’am.”
She fixed him with the hardest stare he’d seen in years.
“It’s your husband, ma’am. He’s been killed.”
“Was he alone?”
Echo One shifted. Looked away.
“No, ma’am.”
“Was it that bitch?”
“I don’t know who you mean, ma’am.”
“Tina Wong. That’s who I mean.”
“I’ll find out, ma’am.”
Tina Wong. They’d been rivals in school, rivals in everything. People said she and Tina were smarter than others but that was bullshit. They worked harder, that’s all. Wasn’t that the American way?
