It’s rare that you are going to find me reviewing a game that is simultaneously a porn game and for all-ages. Clutch those pearls a little tighter bitch; I’m not saying everyone should play this porn game. Rather, depending on where you buy or even watch the game will decide what kind of game you are getting.
If you are familiar with the Nekopara series, you may not even know that this was originally a porn game. You may have watched the anime or played the censored version on Steam. If hentai visual novels are your thing, this game lit up the Steam sales near the end of 2017, so you may have even played the game already. But if you haven’t and the idea of living among catgirls (called nekos) puts a chub in your pants, you owe it to yourself to check out the original, fully uncensored version.
Nekopara Volume 1 is a pretty goddamn old visual novel at this point. Initially released in 2017, it’s one of those IPs that never initially gained traction. It grew a following as a smutty hentai visual novel, but the story and characters are what bring it all together. No wonder it has transitioned from an XXX hentai game to the more mainstream.
Human cat hybrids that mail themselves to you
Nekopara Volume 1 begins by introducing the player to your character, Kashou Minaduki. Kashou has just moved away from his parent’s restaurant, aiming to forge his own path by opening his own bakery. You get the sense that Kashou is nervous as fuck to be striking it on his own, but he’s excited all the same. Then you get a package in the mail, and it sounds like there are bitches inside pretending to be cats.
Kashou sees the package and starts to get suspicious. Eventually, you figure out that the family’s nekos (catgirls) from home may have mailed themselves to you. Your character feels like that’s fucking stupid, and there is no way that his family would mail them to him. Add to the fact that he feels like there isn’t any chance in hell that they could mail themselves, and he’s probably thinking it’s more likely that there is a bomb in these boxes and he’s about to die instead of believing these are actual catgirls.
Chocola and Vanilla appear out of the boxes, and it becomes clear. They’re fucking here, Kashou is going to have to deal with it, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. You then learn that nekos are actually genetically modified humanoid cats! Wait, what the fuck?!
That begs the question. Who the hell decided this was a good idea? The visual novel makes it clear that at least one person had to say aloud, “you know, we should splice feline and human DNA and grow a cat/human hybrid.” Somewhere down the line, they also had to tell at least one other person, “let’s make them fertile,” and, “fuck it, let’s populate the world with these hybrids.” Finally, someone also said aloud, “since we have all of these abominations of science, let’s allow human beings to own them,” and nobody in the world saw a problem with this.
I don’t know what kind of alternative universe Nekopara Volume 1 takes place in, but it sure as fuck isn’t planet Earth. When you see what these catgirls look like, you can’t tell me that these bitches are not getting fucked every which way every night by their host families. I guarantee the Dad is walking in one minute to fuck a neko anally while their horny son that’s tired of jerking off into a sock fucks the other the next. The game has a dark underlying tone to it, but the nekos seem happy with the arrangement, so who the fuck am I to judge?
Stay for the story
The first thing you learn is that the catgirls call you, ‘master.’ They also want to snuggle up and sleep with you in your bed. Like a fucking idiot, Kashou says that his, ‘bed is too small,’ and it would be uncomfortable. Come the fuck on, pal. Even if these bitches have cat pussies, they look goddamn human to me, minus the cat ears! Go for it, you dumb fuck!
But he doesn’t do it. He at least agrees that they can stay with him until they figure out a better arrangement. Like going back to where they came from. But a huge order shows up at his bakery’s doorstep one day, and he realizes that he needs some extra hands to help him. That’s where Chocola and Vanilla’s worth increases exponentially. Like an asshole, he’s suddenly interested in keeping them around, so his bakery doesn’t go into bankruptcy from the start.
It sounds like a real shit move to me. The douche bag wants to throw them out on the street until he figures out that he can use them. Despite that, you start to see the gears in motion in Nekopara Volume 1. If you’re into these types of visual novels, you are likely going to be intrigued at this point. It’s not ThePornDude’s cup of goddamn tea, but Nekopara Volume 1 is well done and I can at least appreciate that.
Crisp and vibrant hentai visuals
The one thing that you will notice as soon as you start playing Nekopara Volume 1 is that this game is not created by amateurs. NEKO WORKs did an excellent job making the visuals look so fucking clean and crisp that you know you’re looking at a hentai visual novel that has the same production qualities as an all-ages anime. It’s no wonder Nekopara Volume 1 has branched beyond being merely a pornographic visual novel.
That’s not to mention that as far as sex appeal in hentai content goes, the catgirls in Nekopara Volume 1 are fairly fucking hot. Again, I don’t jerk off to hentai porn in my spare time (I prefer the real shit), but I can see the allure here. The ladies – or catgirls, if we’re getting specific – have that classic sexy anime look of so many anime and manga properties.
In other words, if you get off to this kind of art style, you’ll get off to the catgirls in Nekopara Volume 1. NEKO WORKs put a lot of time into ensuring the models have that classic anime look while still differentiated depending on their personalities and character as a whole. Every character’s look matches their attitude. Vanilla is meek; Chocola is more in-your-face, for example. This is apparent based on how they look, even in images.
Decent hentai nudity
Normally, you will find me pissing and moaning about how a game lacks a lot of nudity or XXX content. If a game advertises itself as having that kind of content, most of the time, that content needs to be front and center. Of course, some games go overboard by adding so much smut you don’t know if your cock is going to cum or you’re going to wait.
Nekopara Volume 1 does not have a ton of sexual moments or even that many instances of nudity. The smut is subtle and more innuendo than anything else. That’s okay, though. The characters, environment, and story is so engrossing that you really don’t give a shit that you haven’t seen a pair of tits in a while.
While I was playing, I only came across the catgirls naked on one occasion. They were bathing, and it was one of their favorite things for some reason. I didn’t get to fuck any of them during my playthrough, even though I’m not sure if Kashou would know what to do with catgirl pussy if we ever got any.
Still, if you follow the game and pay attention, you will get horny from the sexy moments that arise now and again. I spotted panty shots now and then (as you can fucking see) along with plenty of teasing. That’s the thing about the game. As I said, it’s subtle, but you never feel like you are far off from having a threesome with these cat bitches.
If you let the story grab you and it holds your attention, you’re going to get a double dose of a decent story along with hints of sexual innuendo all along the way. It works, and the game asks that you be patient with it. Take your time with it. Nekopara Volume 1 takes no more than six hours to beat, and I think you can spare a few hours to see what the game is all about.
If you are still interested, there are four other volumes. This includes a prequel featuring only catgirls and Kashou’s younger sister. The latest release – Nekopara Volume 4 – was released just a few months ago from this review.
The visual novels are still being released. If you want to play them uncensored, be sure you know exactly the edition you are purchasing! Otherwise, you won’t get to see any naked catgirls! How fucking depressing would that be for you?!
Suggestions:
Nekopara Volume 1 is a visual novel about catgirls living together with humans. It sounds goddamn ridiculous, but the story, characters, and the overall vibe from the game is relaxing and sexy at times. It’s not for everyone, but for those that love anime, manga, or reading visual novels, you may find yourself staying up late at night finishing the other volumes in the series.
