In an age of time when the destruction of modern civilization slowly descends upon us we must look to a future when someone, anyone will rise up and take the reigns so long ago dropped and lift us back to our rightful path. This at least was the thoughts and the most constant staple of Professor Damien’s lectures. He knew that the inner cities were going to hell and also that his student ratio had jumped by 60% over the last few years. At the ripe age of 45 he was still younger than the larger portion of his peers but also older by leaps and bounds from his students.

He often wondered how he would cope in his older years as it got more dangerous around the city, his thoughts drifted as he sat behind his mahogany desk and he tried to focus on the weight of the future before him. It was a threat to his mortality to step out of the car and walk into this school each day as well as a threat just to walk down the hall. Kids bringing weapons to school albeit guns, knives, or shanks fashioned out of metal or any material handy. It was a virtual battle zone when one of the gangs that walked through the school butted heads against another. He wondered how much longer he would be safe slipping from one corridor to the other and not catching a bullet or knife in the back.

Even as the thoughts slipped through his head the bell rang and his most promising student slipped up to his desk and waited for him to notice her. “Ahem, sir,” she coughed.

“Oh, Ms. Dana, how can I help you today?” he inquired.

“Well, Mr. Damien,” she started with a reluctant look on her face, “my brother David has gone and gotten himself into a dangerous situation with that thug Scorpion.”

Damien waited until she paused and then his mind started to run rampant, this could be just his chance to step in and help save someone just as he always lectured about. Perhaps this would be the time he stepped forward and guided one of those lost souls back to the light and he may find a way to redeem himself for all his own self insecurities. His mind focused as Dana started to speak again and she laid out the most horrific tale that he had heard in many years.

Dana went on to explain that her brother had apparently ran into the Cadillac that Scorpion drove, upon this happening the boy, Scorpion as he was known, jumped out of the car and pressed a gun to David’s temple. This in itself was bad enough but she went on to relay that David had reacted swiftly and lethally by spinning and kicking Scorpion in the head and dropping him to the ground after which disarming him and pointing the gun right at its owner. He had then pulled back the hammer, cocking the gun, dropped the safety and told Scorpion to kiss his ass goodbye.

“Then some revelation must have hit Professor Damien,” Dana said through her tears, “ David flipped the button on the side of the gun dropped out the clip, tossed the gun and walked away with the clip in his hand.”

“So the problem is now Scorpion who got faced in front of his boys needs retribution. He is out for David’s life and won’t rest until he gets it, sir.” Dana whimpered.

Damien thought for a moment and it quickly occurred to him that indeed today was going to be that chance to strive forward and grasp a bit of his destiny. For he thought destiny lies deep within each of us not some fabric mapped out prior to our stumbling into it. He knew that there was a higher being out there but his best beliefs were that he controlled everything himself, that each and every time he chose to do something it was of his own will and not something else.

“Alright Dana here’s what we are going to do,” the professor finally told her after a few minutes had passed. He lay out his plan and then told her to do exactly as he had instructed, if this was going to work it had to be fast quick and done with pinpoint accuracy.

Two hours later outside the school a SWAT team was waiting in concealed locations, and snipers had assumed their places on the rooftops of the surrounding buildings adjacent to the parking lot. Professor Damien’s plan was a go thus far. He had alerted to principal of the school and also got in touch with David and set up a way out for the boy, without him losing his “props” to his peers. He was going to be giving Damien a ride home supposedly and then when the other boy confronted them, which he undoubtedly would, the swat team would wait until Scorpion brandished his weapon and then strike. This would be the last of a three strikes your out program for Scorpion and he wouldn’t be returning to school or even to the domesticated civilized society anytime in the next thirty to forty years.

“Thanks Professor Damien,” David shyly whispered as they walked out of his classroom with Dana.

“Not a problem young buck,” Damien replied with a hearty laugh. He knew what it was like to be young and face your fears head on, although David would have taken a bullet for honor and pride today he decided to stick with the plan and let Professor Damien lead the way and perhaps keep his own life and have more to look forward to further down the road.

As they turned the corner and headed out of the building there stood Scorpion, his little thug posse right along side of him. The boy that was trying so desperately to be a man stood there with a awe of misguided authority of those around him. He had a gun in his hand and he stared down the trio as the neared him.

“Look player,” Scorpion said to Damien, “you are involved here so I don’t wanna be forced to bust a cap in your tired old ass too.”

Damien stared the boy down and opened his mouth to speak, “Alright James, or Scorpion whatever it is you go by now, I don’t want a beef with you either. So let David and his sister here slide right on out to their car and I promise you that nothing will come of this.”

“Nope Mr. Damien, this punk crossed the line today and he’s got to come correct for his fucking errors,” Scorpion replied.

“Last chance S, drop the gun and walk away and it gets squashed right here, move another inch and you can say goodbye to your future son.”

Scorpion thought about it and figured the professor was trying to call his bluff but he wasn’t about to back down now, he raised the gun and aimed it at the three of them standing there. His hands were clearly shaking and he was having trouble picking a steady target. As he decided on David a shot rang out and Scorpion immediately recoiled and was sent to the ground in a heap of wailing pain.

The other boys around him scattered at once and ran for their lives, most likely trying to stay alive and keep out of jail. As Scorpion lay there twitching on the ground Damien walked up to him and knelt over him pulling the gun away from the boy’s hand. “I told you to drop it you’re just lucky that it was only your leg that got shot young man.”

Several days later David walked into the professor’s room and handed him a small box with a note attached and then turned and walked out. David opened the box and inside was a small four leaf clover pendant, he opened the note and read it slowly.

Teach, I’m sorry for getting you involved in the whole ordeal with Scorpion, but as a token of my appreciation and esteem I want you to take this pendant that my mamma passed down to me from her father’s father. You see professor, I have worn that pendant every day of my life somewhere on my body and I don’t need it anymore. You taught me that I make things happen and with a little faith and a lot of thought any goal may be accomplished. Once again thanks professor. David.

Damien just sat there dumbfounded and as he thumbed the pendant he realized that maybe he was someone’s hero.

Hometown Hero

Not a lot of sex. As always, I want to thank my editors, LadyCibelle and Techsan, for making my story a much better read as well as their suggestions. Chapter 1 I was getting dressed to go to the Fourth of July party. I recently returned home from the service. I was asked to wear my uniform with my latest medals. You see, I was considered a hero in our town. I don’t see myself as a hero, I just did what any soldier would have done in my situation. I’ll try to explain exactly what happened. ...

GSP Chapter 713 What Makes a Hero

G.S.P. Chapter 7 What Makes a Hero? Fang moved through the streets in wolf form carefully following the smell that she tracked. The smells of the many humans closeness to her assaulted her from all directions, but she had no problem moving forward. People parted from her presence, startled by her larger than expected size. Possibly there might be trouble if anyone called the police about a large wolf moving freely in the city, but hopefully she had made enough appearances with the super...

Like a Hero

My head was spinning. Absolutely spinning, and it wasn't just the glass of champagne. The last month, the last year even, had been a complete blur. From high school swim meets, to a generous college scholarship, to the Olympic trials, to the eight days I spent in the Athletes' Village, to the medal stand (three times), to the media circus back home, to this bathroom in the swankiest hotel in the capitol city of the state I was born in. How could so much happen to one person in so little time?...

Death of the Hero

A Hero's death need not always be literally. As the old saying goes, you either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villian. But in doing so a Hero is dead anyways. Gone are the morals and the justice. No longer are they a role model for the youngsters. Often they don't even maintain the same appearance or name. So in essence they are dead regardless. And this is one such story. Our Hero doesn't meet her life's end, but her no beginning as something not quite what she used...

An Unlikely Hero

Ok it was like this I needed furniture for my dorm room such as a comfort chair or maybe a futon or something like that. Hell even a better mattress for the bed would be nice. However I am your typical first year college student. I'm broke all the time. So when I was heading home to my parents' house (Just so they could feed me on the weekend) I noticed a sign that said "estate auction today." Well that sign had an arrow pointing down a cross road of the state highway I was on. I thought to...

Hero

Hero By Cassandra Morgan I knew better, dammit. I was smarter than this. From the time I first dragged a pair of panties up my legs, I have been scared to death of being caught, and the fear has made me sharp. I was never one of those transvestites who secretly wants to get caught by his mom or his wife or his co-workers. I always knew it would start a river of trouble flowing. So I knew better. Hell, I dressed before I went home, but not after. It was just for self-protection....

Dont be a hero

Don't be a hero Why is my wonderful friend Josie dating a meathead like Brian Bates? Josie wants me to stay out of it, but I can't resist being a hero. ***** Josie was the girl down the road, and had been my best friend for as long as I could remember. Apart from being boy and girl, we were extremely similar. I was a bit of an outcast, but I was pretty good at school, especially maths and science type subjects, and I liked to read. I also liked exploring outdoors and riding my...

Daniel started. “All my life I have been a nerd. While in college, I was a charter member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. I fenced in high school, and when the SCA was founded, I expanded into all sorts of medieval weaponry. I became super nerd.” “When I was a little older than you are now, I was recruited,” he paused for effect, “by a smooth talking guy who said that my knowledge could be put to rewarding uses. My Hero

I had a small house in a quiet neighborhood. Much different than the crowded city where I grew up. My neighbors mostly kept to themselves. An older couple on one side and a single mother with two teens on the other side. The kids were no problem, mostly everyone just waved in passing. As I said, a quiet neighborhood, no problems, until Saturday night. I'd gone out on the back deck about 8 pm. No particlar reason, mostly to enjoy the cooler evening air after a warm day. I had a t shirt and...

Jasons TaleChapter 14 A New Hero

I was sorta expecting it, but it was still a surprise the first time an Earth Hero came through our bank. We had quite a few men who wanted to be crew on our warships and earn some easy money but could not swim, and I had to have something for them to do. I set four of them up as pairs of bank guards so that if anything happened one could continue to watch while the other went for help. One pair had the mornings and the other pair had the afternoons. I still remembered the bank at Long Cut...

The Sissification of a Hero

Izuku Midoriya loved being a hero. He loved saving people with a smile and giving strength to the weak. He loved the feeling of doing something great and the happiness that followed from the people around him. Something he did not love however was paperwork. Sadly however, with great responsibility comes a great amount of paper-work. Especially if you're the number one hero with your own hero agency. Izuku groaned loudly and put the pen down as he finished his fourth damage report of the day....

Her Hero

I couldn’t sleep. I had been trying for what seemed like hours. So, I went for a walk to the park, hoping that would allow me to checkmate the sandman. That’s when I came upon the situation. A guy and a girl in what seemingly looked like an argument. Finding myself not ready to return home yet, I decided to eavesdrop on the squabble. From what I gathered he was her boyfriend and wanted a piece of her ‘teasing’ ass, as he so quaintly put it. I thought to myself, ‘I don’t blame him.’ The girl...

To be a hero

This story will center itself around the main character: the hero. Well…at least that is what he will be at the start. You have to understand dear reader that most villains in real life aren’t inherently evil. They themselves do believe that what they are doing is the right thing. To clarify, this story does start out as a heroic tale. It is in fact a little generic. For example, it is set in the glorious country of the United States. The hero does at the start believe in the workings of a...

Hero

I was orphaned at an early age and lived on the street. I got my education through the public comp systems. At sixteen I got a job just off the port warehouse district as a night watcher. It was not much but I made enough to rent a one room apartment once called a studio. The area was very old and close to the port so the buildings were between six to ten stories tall. Since the area was old it was also neglected by a lot of the city maintenance workers. Few constables patrolled the area and...

No hero

It wasn’t that Jack had ever wanted to be a soldier. It was not something he chose from a range of professions. It was simply that Jack was born into an area where poverty and hardship were the norm, where the only choice for the boys who left school was either to slave in the local coal mines, or to join one of the armed services. So when Jack left school at the tender age of fourteen, as children were allowed to do in those far off days, he worked in the dirt and blackness for two long years,...

Add to that I was 5'5, scrawny and kind of weaselly looking. Well, as you could imagine, I was beating the babes off with a stick. Actually you could describe my love life by removing the words "the babes" and "with a stick" from the last sentence. The only thing that kept my Dad from thinking I was a...

Earths CoreChapter 4 Shelter Of Heroes

After wishing good luck to the participants, Archbishop Silternja sat in his middle seat, at the left end seat sat Cardinal Northstar, His Young Eminence sat in the other middle seat and Sister Iaura at the right end seat. Priest announcer Armin exited the arena, leaving only the one thousand and three participants inside. “Thank you, Archbishop Silternja”, he said with no hint of intention to address the two youngsters sitting together with the holy Archbishop and Cardinal, as if he was...

The Hero

Midfield Wisconsin, a medium-sized city by Midwestern standards, lies perched high above the shores of Lake Michigan. A long Coast Guard pier juts one mile out into the lake, slants sharply to the south then out for another quarter mile. This structure helps form a channel creating one of the best harbors on the lake, from which a fleet of commercial fishing boats goes forth each morning, accompanied by hundreds of swirling, squawking gulls. Huge merchant ships come and go, supplying coal and...

Christmas Hero

I wrote this story shortly after Christmas of 2102. It is a work of fiction. Names, places and events are a product of my imagination. I hope you enjoy it for what it is. * When the IED exploded eight Marines of Lieutenant Karl Richart Schmidt’s platoon lay wounded and exposed to sniper fire from a group of insurgents hiding in the village. Schmidt’s instincts told him to remain hidden behind the low stone wall which the remainder of his men had taken cover. Then his training kicked in....

Comic Hero

Growing up as a kid, I was mesmerized by Popeye, The Sailor Man. It was a collection of my grandfather’s comic books that I had inherited. It was a ridiculous cartoon strip started in the nineteen-twenties. In it, Popeye a spinach glugging nerd constantly saves Olive Oyl, an even more absurd looking creature from the advances of a gorgeous looking, butch hunk named Bluto. Even as a child, I was unable to understand why Olive would be distressed by the machinations of the uber-masculine Bluto,...

Hero

You glanced around - it was an eerie night, with the full moon glowing brightly in the sky and shadows being lengthened to pull off a more frightening look than they usually would have. You gritted your teeth, and kept moving, though your body was tensed - this wasn't a good part of town, and you knew that because you were a guy, you would probably be beat up at the first opportunity. If you let them, of course - you were strong, standing at a good 6 feet, and though you weren't exactly...

My Hero

My Hero By Anon Allsop I slowly strolled by the dress shops, momentarily gazing into the windows and looking at the new styles from New York. I caught sight of my reflection in the window, auburn hair askew and lightly floating in the gentle breeze. I straightened my light jacket and continued to walk down the sidewalk. "How'd you like to wrap those long legs around me honey?" I glanced up, a man in a white tank had settled in beside me. He was grinning like a hungry wolf....

Hero

Hero (Sorry for the spelling and grammar mistakes. I am not perfect. Most readers have patience; others think the story sucks if there are mistakes. I do try though Hello everyone. I am so happy that my story will be on this site. It's not a story about me finding out there was a girl living in my boy's body, and it's not a story about some girl or woman making me their slave. It's not a story about me finding a boyfriend and being his girlfriend. This is my story where I tell the...
