After spending most of the day clearing out the musty basement, he had not found much that he thought worth taking. The box was about the size of a large phone book, and something about it piqued Steve's interest.
He stood, and walked a few paces over to the box. Lifting it gently from the shelf it was sitting on; he blew a thin layer of dust off and slid off the top. As he did so a small piece of paper fluttered to the floor. Taking note of the paper he finished opening the box and looked inside. Three small, glass pill bottles were held in place in separate form-fitting depressions. Inside the bottles were tiny red pills. Bending over he picked up the paper, and returned to the chair with the box, and sat down. Unfolding the slip of paper, he began to read.
"These pills are the refined version of #88-216, the mind-controlling drug I perfected while working in the research branch at Langley. You will not find the formula in the container, and I believe it would take many, years of research, analysis and investment to duplicate it. Whoever finds these pills, and plans to use them for their intended purpose should be aware of a few facts:
First, one pill ingested into the system will begin to take effect almost immediately. The pills are tasteless and can be crushed into a fine powder for delivery into a subject if this proves to be an easier form of ingestion. The subject will obey all your commands or those from who they are given their first command without question. Thereafter they will only follow the commands of the those they received their first command from. If you are so inclined, you can order the subject to forget their time under the influence of the drug, and they will do so with no ill effect. Steve looked quickly about the basement, even though he knew there was no one else downstairs with him. These pills were years old. How should he test them out? And on who? As if on cue, Steve heard Lisa call his name from upstairs. Steve smiled to himself.
