As he reached the light at the bottom of the ramp, he noticed that she immediately noticed him as well, a look on her face betrayed that this lovely creature had no doubt been harassed or otherwise abused by passers buy making her leery of anyone’s approach but at the same time her situation demanded that she stay where she is in the hopes that someone might roll down their window and offer her cash to sustain herself for yet another day, the fight or flight reaction battling it out inside her mind with every passing second.
As the light changed, he stepped off the curb and began crossing the road, each step bringing him closer to her. Maybe it was his simple, normal, outfit, or perhaps her situation was just that desperate, but she held her ground as he stepped up onto the curb placing him mere feet from her.
He watched her shift her position a bit, keeping her eye on the stopped cars but also on him, obviously weary of someone being so close to her.
"Hey there." he said, keeping his tone level and moderated as not to scare her immediately, letting a bit of a smile play across his face.
"Look, I don't want any trouble..." was the immediate response from the girl, her words flying fast from her lips as she turned more towards him, her eyes visibly darting from side to side evaluating any escape routes open to her.
"No, no, no, no, no....I'm not here for trouble." he said, "I have just seen you here for the past few days and I can tell you're genuinely in need of some help so I wanted to bring you some water and offer to buy you a meal or something."
He could see her mind racing, first at the mere hint of water and even more at the thought of food, he could have sworn he heard her stomach rumble at the mere thought. She licked her lips slightly and he could see as she adorably bit her bottom lip slightly in thought, frozen still much like a deer in headlights.
"Come on, it's hotter than the blazes of hell and eternal damnnation out here...let’s get some food and water in you and we can talk in the air conditioning." he offered, adding more mental pictures of sitting and eating in the coolness like civilized people to her mind, "My name is Chris, what's yours?"
"Sarah." she almost blurted out, for the first time he actually could see a little blush on her cheeks as she realized how it must have sounded, "Why are you doing this, what do you want in exchange? I'm not that kind of girl...." she said, again, pressed into almost a single sentence with the speed in which it flew from her lips.
"Hey, I'm just a nice guy and I know everyone gets down on their luck at some point or another, the only thing I want is to talk with you and see if there is something I can do to help improve your situation maybe. If not, I'll bring you right back here, or anywhere local you want to go and you'll never have to see me again." he followed with holding out the water bottle
Her eyes traced his face a moment, looking for any signs he might be lieing before falling to the water bottle, again, licking her lips she gave in to her more primal needs and reached out for it, steeling herself to the possibility he might pull it back or grab her when she got close. As her fingers wrapped around the cool bottle she instinctively stepped forward, feeling the cool sweat along the surface of the bottle in her palm, the first cool she'd felt in quite some time.
Immediately she grabbed the cap and twisted it, she could feel the seal break on the bottle telling her it hadn't been opened or tampered with and she brought it to her lips, fighting the urge to gulp it down she took several small sips from the bottle before closing it up.
"Thank you... Alright... I'll go with you.... just for the food....nothing more..." she hurily told him.
He smiled, turning and motioning, "Great, come on...my car is just over in the parking lot..."
One final look of fear gave way to an overwhelming desire to satisfy her hunger as she slumped her shoulders a little, her mind still racing with what might happen to her once she was alone with this guy. He wasn't the first to pretend to be nice to her only to take advantage of the situation, in fact it was how she'd ended up here, dumped by some guy after taking what he wanted from her after promising her food, but perhaps this time this guy was different...
