"Sir, we are approaching the coordinates specified," said the Lt.
Commander.
"Good, takes us out of hyperspace. And, let us head to the VR - History
information center," said the Commodore.
At the VR- History information center, the man and the woman were
acquainted with Earth history starting from 1988 to 1993.... The
important events of the this time were Tienenman Square, the Belin Wall,
Gorbachev';s resignation, the precursors to the Gulf War, the Gulf War,
and the aftermath of how those who served were treated when they came
home....
The two crew members attach a device to their garments to conceal their
identities. But, if the device should fail, they are dressed in the
native styles of the day... Suit for the man, and Blazer and skirt for
the woman --- they are attending a computer convention....
[1989 - Research Laboratory]
The two see a man settings up a large medicla research machine.
According to the name plate, it is a "Cell Sorter and Flow Cytometer"
with a 2000 milliwatt laser... Another man enters the lab with some test
tubes... They run a few a test, talk a bit, work out the analysis, and
the lab man checks the machine for the next session...
"What is that beam of light used for," asked the Lt. Commander?
"Is is used as a way to illuminate a blood cell. Certain antibodies are
attached to the cell to mimick how the cell would react in different
states of health. Then, the laser light hits the antibody which has a
color emitter attached. And, based on the intensity of the emitter, you
can determaine the quantitative, effective result of the reaction," said
the Commodore...
"It seems pretty routine from what I have seen."
"Yes, it is...."
Suddenly, from the CD/Radio in the laboratory --- NEWS FLASH, IRAQI
TANKS HAVE JUST CROSSED THE BORDER WITH KUWAIT, AND HAVE SEIZED THE
CAPTITAL CITY. THE PRESIDENT AND HIS STAFF ARE EVALUATING THE SITUATION.
THE PRESIDENT WILL BRIEF THE COUNTRY SOON.
In the lab, the lab man and the researcher using the machine were
perplexed by this announcement. They did not think of the long term...
The short term answer was that some type of military action would be
done to counter it....
- TWO MONTH'S LATER ---
The two observers notice a military action called DESERT SHIELD has been
implemented... But, a special meeting has been called... The lab man and
others go to listen...
"I would like to thank you for attending this meeting. The reason we are
hear today is that we is that we have been asked to be a major blood
supplier for the upcoming action in Kuwait... Our share is 1,000,000
points of blood... Also, the new operation is to be called DESERT
SHIELD... Please do not discuss this until after the a formal new
broadcast has been made tommorow... With us changing from a research to
military supplier, each of you will be asked to give extra time and
effor...," said the speaker...
The lab man went home and worked on his computer...
--- NEXT DAY ---
"When my brother gets in Kuwait, we will run them all the way back to
Badhdad," said one service person who came for a routine call. The
service person was a good friend of the lab man, and he was a dyed in
the wool Du Page county Republican...
"Well, I hope they do not make this thing like a Vietnam... I remember
reading about some of the things in "MY FATHER, MY SON". It would be
better is this would not have got to this state.. .Maybe, by better
people working at that end over there," answering and thinking aloud.
"Don't worry, it will be over in a month. My brother was drafted and
happy to be so. And, he will back at his old job in a month."
They worked on the routine maintaince...
--- MARCH 1990 ---
The DESERT SHIELD operation was successful according to the revised
plan....
The troops returned home....
"Well, my brother fought at Basra, and is returning home. He and his
wife are living with me now... His job was given to someone else, he is
looking for new Work... Time for a third party," said the service
person... His faith in his former party diminished...
"I think you are right," said the lab man. He tried to confort him and
give him hope...
-- A FEW DAYS LATER ----
There were some strange test being done... In the past, when he asked
questions, they would be answered. And, he was encourage to ask
questions when not sure...
"What has changed the nature of this work place," asked the LT.
Commander...
"They are doing post war research. Also, little do they now --- that
some of it may be transforming," said the Commodore. "Our goal is to
help others recover from this, but we need to start the action at the
moment is occurs to avoid a time rift..."
--- ANOTHER AREA ---
One person was cleaning an area where some of the sample spilled because
the researcher would not. That night, a strange transformation occurred

--- THE ORIGINAL LABORATORY ---

two observers noticed the effect in other places... It was not the fault
of the machine used.... It was due to the secrecy and nature of the new
experiments....

The persons were cured, but they still had their female side assert
itself more of the time... In short, their brain was half male dominant
and half female dominat...
Also, the veterans who fought, and were healthy when drafted -- returned
home sick, and left to fend for themseleves... The lab man thought, they
fought and served with honor --- it is important that a President and
Adminstration take care of them with honor --- Even if they could not
exactly define the cause in 1990...
