01) "May This Blade Find Its Mark?"

"Midnight of the Eve of a Full Moon," pronounced a green-eyed
girl in a white robe and cowl. "Ere 24 hours hast passed, this spell shalt
attain its fulfillment. May all who mock the White Goddess by cursed."
"May the White Goddess bless all who believe in love," intoned
the circle of teenage girls around her. They, too, were dressed in plane
white robes but without cowls.
The coven mistress prayed to the four corners with her knife before
dipping it into the small cauldron she had on a tripod over a small
campfire.
"Art thou prepared, Dianne?" she asked the girl with the golden-
brown hair and blue eyes sitting on a blanket in front of the fire.
"Yeah, yeah," said Dianne wishing she wasn't there, out in the
middle of the cold woods, naked. She had her knees up and pressed
together and her arms were wrapped around her breasts. "Let's get this
over with."
"Then it shall be done," the head witch said, withdrawing the
dagger from her cauldron. "May this blade find its mark deep within a
heart?."
She approached the nude girl with the blade as those around them
chanted.

Explosions echoed through the blood-red sunset. One lone dark
blond barbarian, his bare right side covered with dirt and scars and the
rawhide laces that kept his pelts on him, had his sword raised as he ran
among those explosions; he used his broadsword to knock away the
shrapnel that got near him.
"You shall not escape my wrath, this time, berserker!!"
pronounced the brunet witch with violet-eyes behind him. Her long silk
skirt was slit up both sides, but tied together on the left nearly as exposed
as the warrior's. Her left arm was sheathed in a long, tight sleeve; but the
arm holding the scepter-wand was bare. A bodice covered her torso, while
a peaked turban covered her hair.
"My purpose is not to escape, witch!" declared the young man,
raising his left arm, and the wolf skin mantel over it.
He came too close to an explosion, this time; luckily his mantel
shielded him from the brunt of its concussion.
"What then?No! You can't go near them!" the witch cried.
There, not yards from the savage was the airfield, and an A-6
fighter!
"Krnak!! Don't!!" the witch yelled.
But Krnak had made it to the tarmac, and was headed straight for
the USAF plane.
The girl in the witch costume ran after him, but found her costume
wasn't practical.
The boy in his teens was able to scramble up on top of a wing, and
raise his sword in the fading light. "With this weapon of war, I shall save
my people!"
"First, you're going to have to save yourself," a hard adult voice
said.
The boy looked down on a lone marine major. The taut man with
the steel gray hair had an armband that read 'MP'.
"Oh! Hi?," the young man turned boy as he laughed nervously.
"What have you been told about playing around with US
government equipment?" the ruggedly handsome, middle-aged man was
not amused.
"Jim said he was just going to use the air field as a background,
Maj. Krnak!" the witch-girl said, holding onto the loose end of her long
skirt.
"Is that an excuse, Miss Daiseby?" It was obvious from his tone
what he expected the answer to be.
"But the movie needed it!" the boy explained, getting down off of
the plane.
"Of course, you brought your whole crew," the major said, looking
out in the field. The cameraman rose from the tall grass he'd been
kneeling in; he looked down at the guy who'd remained hidden. This one
was still holding the loose wires that triggered the detonator board that'd
set off the explosions.
He turned back to the boy dressed in the ridiculous costume that
the girl had made. "And how'd you expect to get away with having
explosions near an air field?"
"Er, well, we, sorta, uh. Posted a notice? A? "training exercise"?"
"You did *what *!!?"
"Well, if you can't do things like that, what's the use of having a
dad who's head of base MP's?"

"Oh, it's you again," said the sergeant in the brig, as a youngster
only half dressed in skins was pushed inside. "I like this costume better."
The kid looked down at the outfit he was in, then frowned,
embarrassed. "It was Caitlyn's idea."
"So, who's she? Your girlfriend, kid?"
"No, she's a manipulative brat, who thinks she can get what she
wants because her dad owns the town," he said, going to the other bunk,
and pulling the blanket from it.
"Is it just you she likes to see show his muscles?" the NCO said,
lying back on his bunk.
Jim wrapped the blanket around himself. "She's the 'creative-
type'. You shoulda seen what she was wearing."
"I'd like to," the older man smiled.
Jim didn't like the sound of that. "She's also into "self-defense as a
spiritual fitness"."
"Is she pretty?"
"She's also nuts!"
"As long as she's pretty," the man laughed lustily.
"Jerk," Jim muttered, turning away.
"Jim!" came his name from near the cell door.
"Oh, hi, er, uh, Mrs. G." Jim said, not wanting to look at the
woman.
"Hello, Mrs. Krnak!" the sergeant rolled onto his side.
""Hello, Sgt. Murphy," the auburn haired woman smiled back
sweetly. "More bad luck?"
Jim went to block the guy's view of her. "What are you doing
here?"
"I heard what Stan did. I came to take you home."
* * *
"Isn't it a bit far to walk?" Jim groused; he was still wrapped in the
bunk's blanket.
"Oh, no!" Mrs. G. smiled. "It's exercise!"
"*I *don't need any more exercise. Dad's going to have me doing
push-ups and laps for a month."
"Why does he object to you becoming an actor? After all, he was
once an actor, himself."
"He never told you about what's it like to be a has-been kid actor?"
"He doesn't like talking about things that upset him."
"He doesn't have that problem with me," Jim grumbled.
"But you're not going to be a child actor, like he was."
"Oh, he's made sure of that. My mom's an agent, right? She could
get me a deal. If he'd let her."
"It'll only be a couple more years," Mrs. G. said, "Just a little
patience. You don't expect to be a star overnight?"
"Why not? I act, direct, produce, and write my own scripts. I put
on plays. I can do most every stunt. I even go to the dance society's
events!
"*That *on top of all the crap Dad makes me do!"
"My; no wonder your grades are poor."
"An actor doesn't need to know anything but how to fake it."
"Is that why you?"
Suddenly sirens began to wail!
"?What's happening?" the startled woman asked.
"Aw?Right!! An alert! Something's finally happening in _Camp
Swampy _!" Jim looked around, for any sign of where the action was.
"An invasion?" Mrs. G. gasped.
"Naw! ' Probably just some stupid AWOL who broke the
parameter. But the base *does *have some secret stuff. That lab nobody's
supposed to know about, for instance. It could be spies."
"Spies?" she didn't like the sound of that either. "Why did I have
to fall in love with a military man?"
"And a policeman!" Jim cried, realizing he was wasting his time
there. " 'Bye! I'm going back to the brig!"
"Wait Jim!! You'll just be in the way!!"
But he was already running, forgetting to hold onto the blanket.
"?And I haven't told you my news?"

"Jamaal! What's happening?" Jim called after the second
lieutenant getting in a humvee with two sergeants and a private.
"No time, Jim! Go home!"
"There's been a UFO alert!" the private told him.
"Smythe!! We don't need to give *him *any more ideas! Driver?
Move it!
"Jim: Get some clothes on!"
As the ATV left, Jim stood there, ideas welling up in him, "?A
UFO?!"
* * *
"You sure about the coordinates?" asked the guy catching up with
the lead man behind a bush. This teen had on a backpack, red shirt "Star
Trek" uniform, and a latex alien mask attached to his face that looked like
something out of a '50's si-fi with its big bulbous head and insectoid
features.
"I saw the deployment map; I know this hole inside and out," Jim
told him, just before he made a dash for a tree. Jim was still in his
barbarian get-up.
"Man! They should put the guardhouse off-limits to you, Jim," said
the sleepy, shaggy-haired cameraman who just followed the other two
from the sidewalk. He had a camcorder with an unlit light attachment
dangling from his hand. "Shouldn't we let the MP's handle this?"
"They're too busy doing it by the book, securing the parameters,
and searching the escape routes," Jim told the guy with the shaggy brown
hair. "If we're wrong, nobody but us hasta know it."
"And you have me so if you're right, *everybody's *going to
know it."
"Right!" Jim grinned, before he made for the shadow side of a
mailbox near a street light.
"It's past curfew! You want to get us caught?" the other guy told
the cameraman in a loud whisper, just before he made his crouching dash
for the mailbox.
"Sounds like a good idea to me. Whoever heard of hi-jacking a
UFO?" He was walking straight, while they were stopping-and-going,
crouched, and serpentine
"Weren't you listening!"
"No. I'm barely awake."
"It was the truck taking the UFO to the lab that was hi-jacked!"
"On the base? Sounds stupid to me."
"They were *on *the base, so they relaxed their guard," Jim said,
looking both ways down the street. "It was just a squad." He hurried
across the street.
"After all, you don't want to attract attention to something that
doesn't exist!" Barm said, going as soon as Jim had hidden behind a
covered bus bench.
Tania simply walked across the deserted street. "What'd they use
to get the truck away from them? Knockout gas? Nerve gas? Gun fight?"
"Orders," Jim said, making for the corner of a building that came
right up to the sidewalk.
"Huh?"
"The squad leader only had orders to deliver the truck to the base.
"Yeah: They didn't even know what they were escorting. Top
Secret!" Bram snorted, and went to join him.
""Typical," Tanix said. "So, the bad guys just posed as the squad's
replacement."
"You got it," Bram said, going for the telephone pole.
"They're still near the base," Jim said, crouching behind some
newspaper boxes.
"They've got to be somewhere they can disguise the truck," Bram
said.
"And Bram thought he knew where that somewhere might be," Jim
said, hopping over a low picket fence in front of "El Fresco".
"You know what I think, guys? I think you've been watching too
many shows. While you're suppose to be sneaking around, you've been
talking. And it's, like you were giving a plot exposition."
"Aw, crap!" Jim said. "What kind of action show does that!"
"Maybe this isn't an action show," Bram suggested.
"Then, I'll make it one!" Jim said, jumping the low fence, and
racing for the other end of the block.
"Start the camera: The barbarian is on the loose!" Bram started
after him.
"Geez! He'll never be a star; he can't wait for the stunt double!"
Tanix said, jogging, and turning on the camera and its light.

There in the alley behind "Mom & Pop's Grocery", was a semi-
truck, "MacDonald's Farms".
"What the Chitlins! What in the world is that?!" cried the driver,
out taking a smoke.
There, back lit by some lights, was somebody dressed up like he
was Conan or something. And he had a sword! "Have at thee, villain!
Give me back my property!"
"Oh, cripes!! He knows!" the man said, dropping the cigarette and
reaching for something in his pocket.

"Mayday! Mayday! All MP's! We've discovered the stolen truck
behind the grocery on Elm and 5th Ave.! Repeat: We have the truck!!"
Bram yelled into his walkie talkie radio.
"Shouldn't you be doing more to help?!" Tanix asked.
"Just keep the camera going: It's evidence!!
"Mayday!! We're at?"

The man was on the ground, hugging his belly, and gasping for air.
Jim went after the gun that'd fallen under the rig. It wasted time,
but he couldn't give the guy the chance to get it, once he'd recovered
enough.
"What kind of gun is??" Jim's mouth dropped open. "Is this a,
a?light sword!?"
With trembling fingers, he reached out with his left hand, and
picked it up. It felt alive, and?
"?What in the--??!!" It was moving: Conforming itself to his grip.
"ALL RIGHT!!" Jim whooped.
"Mathers? What's happening out there?" somebody called out
from inside the truck.
"Heh, heh! Who's got the alien weapon, now?" Jim grinned, getting up in
his crouch to hurry under the truck towards the side away from the
building.
He got out from around the right big rear wheels as the first of
those inside jumped out onto the back step, ("What's going on?" the guy
in the cowl cried, turning around, reaching for something under his coat.),
and slam the door shut!
"NOW!" Jim yelled as he took his broadsword and jammed it into
the latch.
"This is the police! Give yourself up!" Bram turned on his mini-
tape recorder.
The first man out fired at the door, anyway.
But the furry thing had dropped to the ground, and was already
ducking around the truck's corner.
Suddenly, strange, eerie music started coming from where the
'police' were.
Something was leaning against the brick wall: Something that
didn't quite have the right kind of outline. "We have come for our
property, human," said an oddly hallow voice.
"No! Stay back! This will prove you exist!" he screamed. "For the
sake of humanity, the truth has to be revealed!"
"No?! It, it's ?(COUGH!)," the driver said, having recovered
enough to call out: "It's a trick, Nov?AAAACK!" Mathers was suddenly
silenced (by the alien stomping on his already injured stomach).
"I won't let you get this evidence, too!" Novak warned, panic in
his voice as he tried to aim his pistol into the beating light.
The furry one struck him square on the button with his good right
hand.
The pistol discharged! Just before the unconscious man went
down.
CRASH! The people inside the truck finally rammed the loading
door open, breaking the prop sword. The first couple fell out.
Jim turned to face them.
Stop or I'll use this ray gun on your!" he threatened, raising the
light sword.
"What the hell's going on out here?" the third, a woman, also in a
hair-covering cowl, cried, waving for those remaining inside to close just
the door facing the guy as a shield.
"Good!" Jim smiled. "I wanted to try this!"
But, "How do you turn it on?"
The woman, and the two large men getting up, raised their guns.
The hilt of the alien device emitted its light ?Right at Jim!
* * *
A 3-D grid enveloped the biped before them, going from red to
orange to yellow as it rearranged itself through it.
"What did you do to him?" cried the alien that looked like an alien,
coming out from the other side of the truck.
He had a ray gun that _looked _ like a ray gun; the other one must
be? "Run for your life, they're going to zap us!" the largest man
screamed, turning tail.
"The other one's turning back into a monster, too!" the second
cried, following.
"Don't be fools!" the woman yelled. But she saw that her troops
were jumping truck, and making off along the other side and down the
alley behind her.
"I said, what's happening to Jim?" Bram demanded with his Buck
Roger-easque ray gun.
"You're the special effects freak, you tell me!" the woman said.
"What!" Bram was so startled he lowered his ray gun.
The woman knew when to retreat. "You would have gotten to see a
real UFO, if you'd left well enough alone!" she cried as she disappeared
around the truck.
"Damn?! She's right," Bram said, running over to the open door
of the truck.
"Bram! Look what's happening to Jim!" Tanix yelled, racing
toward his friend, empty handed.
"All Mighty Bucks!" Bram cried, forced to attend to his friend.
The grid was going back towards red and fading. But the body that
filled its contours wasn't Jim's?
It was a head shorter, with big orange eyes, small nose, and a long
neck. It also had lots of bright orange hair.
"Tran, transportation?" Tanix asked the expert.
"Transposition is more like it," Bram told him, rushing over. "See?
That's Jim's barbarian costume!"
Bram was right, the newcomer was in Jim's faux-furs; but they
were baggy on the puny physique.
"I wonder what, Jim's wearing?!" Tanix said as the truth about
this alien was dawning on him.
The figure started to move. And groan. "Ohw?. I hurt all over."
"Aw, crime shows, can't it even * sound* like an alien's suppose
to? This one's just to, to?"
"Sexy," Tanix said.
"Huh?" the girl said, focusing on her surroundings. "What
happened?" In the distance, a siren could be heard.
"You tell us," Tanix said, still staring.
"What did you do with Jim?" Bram demanded, totally disappointed
with this alien. "Take us to him!" The siren was getting closer.
"What are you idi?," the pouty-lipped beauty looked from the
missing squad of villains, to those who were there. "When did you guys
grow?"
"I said: We want you to take us to your mother ship!" Bram said.
"*What *mother-whatever?" the girl with the elfin eyebrows was
starting to get ticked off.
"But would she, then, like, have to get out of her disguise?" Tanix
asked.
"Tanix!" Bram screamed, before raising his toy blaster on the
creature. "OK, Space Alien: Capture us!" The siren was closing in.
The girl thrust her fisted hands down her sides. "Bram, you've
finally gone over the?" Her left arm touched some of the skin the now
baggy costume exposed even more of.
"What in the??" she said, running the arm up and down. The siren
turned a corner.
"Bram. She knows your name," Tanix said.
"So? The alien knows how to read minds?"
"She does!" Tanix squeaked, growing red in the face.
The buxom girl brought her hands up to the right-edge of the
costume. Tanix quickly turned around.
Her scream nearly drowned out the sirens.
'Run! Quickly, before they take you away!'
Something landed on the girl's shoulder, and she ran!
"Come back here!" Bram cried. "You haven't abducted us!"

Jim's headlong flight felt like a tail-dragging waddle!
He jumped, and his once powerful arms struggled to rise the
misshapen body up enough to get a knee and leg up on top of the metal
bin. "Why am I doing this?" he said through (smaller) gritted teeth.
'They were taking the thing they found to be studied, correct?"
"Correct," he said, at last up on the lid.
'Over the fence!'
"I can't," he said, wiping his brow. "All of my strength is gone."
'Do you want to be experimented on?'
That motivated him: Jim jumped for the top of the wooden fence.
Hanging on, he was able to swing up to where he could get a soft thigh
over it. He lost a now too large sandal.
An alarm went off and the yard lights went on. Neighborhood dogs
barked.
He fell over, onto the back of his narrower shoulders. "Ow, man! If
I wasn't already hurting, I'd feel that!"
'No time: Hurry!'
Managing to get up, Jim stumbled forward. "Where are we going?"
'To your house!'
"What? Why would I want to go there?" he protested, coming to a
stone wall.
'Where else can you go, looking like that?'
Jim said, "Good point," just before he started scaling the semi-
smooth stones in the old mortar, and loosing the other sandal.
He was pulling himself up, when he realized that one of those
barking dogs was in the next yard. "Oh, great! What am I going to do
about him?"
'I'll take care of it, just get to the street and run!'
Jim saw a black cat with white boots land beside him on the wall
before leaping down into the yard ahead of him.
"Now I know this is a nightmare."

Trying to force in more air than the lungs were made for, Jim stood
bent over, propping himself up with his slenderer arms on shapely thighs.
Only they weren't his thighs, his arms. And when he was bent over?.
"?I really?really hate, this!?" he said.
Breathing more evenly now, he straightened up, "OK, cat, what's
going on here? If you know?" But the cat wasn't around.
"Crap! It ran off on me."
"If it doesn't want me to get caught, why leave me this way?" he
said, totally frustrated.
He peeked around the tall hedge that lined the neighbor's property.
The house next door had its firs floor lights on. "Oh, no; wouldn't you
know it! Mrs. G. is still up. ' Probably worried about us."
At the foot of the porch that ran around the corner and the length of
the house was a flowerbed, with the walkway passing under a tall apple
tree to a low slat fence around the front yard. "Not enough fence," he
groaned, and trotted around it towards the driveway.
Keeping low (and bumping his knees into things he didn't want to
have to think about), he went past the windows on the side of the house. "I
can't go in like this; I'll have to take the long way," he said to himself.
Coming to the fence between the house and the garage, he quietly
opened the gate, and clambered up on the top rail. Raising, he had to
balance himself with his arms outstretched, almost falling a couple of
times. "Damn, chitlins, this is so awkward."
When he felt secure enough to put his arms up, he found the corbel
was now just out of his usual reach. He had to jump for it, and if he missed
?He didn't. (He tried to ignore those parts of the body he was in that'd
wanted to remain behind.)
But he didn't know how long he could hold on. He stretched out
his short (so why did they feel long?) legs until he could get his toes onto
the corbel of the small roof over the back door.
Before he lost his small foothold, he used it to bring the knee of his
other leg up to the eaves.
Pressing the knees to that, he quickly brought the other leg up, and
up on top of the porch roof.
He lost his handgrip.
But he had enough of a leghold to give him a chance to get his
hands and arms up on the rooftop. "Gee, ess; This thing doesn't have
much upper body strength?."
He stifled a cry as he pulled himself up onto the asphalt-shingled
roof. "Damn, no good chests!?."
He dragged the body up the rough surface to where he could lay
back and relax a bit while his weak muscles spasmed. "Oh, Please don't
let me stay this way. With my body, I could do this easy. How can I be an
action star with a clunky body like this?"
He closed his eyes. "Oh, Yey-Uck! It's just too gross! I * can't*
stay this way!"
Feeling like he was going to gag, he rolled over onto a knee and a
foot, and headed for the first dormer. "I'll go in through the guest room."
He dropped onto the small balcony, and reached for the door to?
ZAP!
"EEEEAAAA!!!" Jim screamed, falling out of the balcony!
The light in the guestroom was immediately snapped on.
And the door was quickly opened from the inside, and a girl in
pajamas came out onto the balcony. " ' Thought this house was an easy
mark because all of its alarms are shut off, did you? Hah! Try anything
else, and you'll get worse!" the now sky-blue haired Dianne yelled down
into the yard.
From below, a sound started growing in strength. "Are you hurt?"
she asked.
Suddenly the sound burst out in full force, and echoed into the
night: I t was laughter!
"HA-heh-HA-HA! YES! I'm back! The man is back: I'm me
again! I'm not stuck! I don't have to live my life in any weak little body!
I'm what I was born to be: A GUY!"
"You, you *are *guy! But? I thought I heard a?" the pretty girl's
mood changed: "What do you think you're doing breaking into my
house?"
The guy in the yard below was untangling himself from the now
bent and twisted portable hammock that'd bounced off of the deck and
rolled down the grassy slope towards the alley. The cedar tree in the
middle of the yard had stopped it.
"Your house?" Jim said looking around. "This is *my *house."
"They why'd you have to come in through *my *room?"
"Who Are you, anyway?" the male Jim said, almost free from the
piece of junk that'd saved his life.
"Who are *you *?"
"What? I need a password?"
"Jerk!" the girl cried, throwing a plastic flowerpot with its plastic
flower down at the creeper. Jim saw it coming, and tried to get out of its
way?But his left foot was still caught in the hammock.
"Don't give me smart answers: Just give me what I want!"
Dubt!
Jim landed belly down.
And down on a body with curves he'd only felt once before
"NOOO" a soprano cry broke through the night.
"There is a girl down there with you!" Dianne cried. "You're with
them, aren't you!" she accused, and fled back into the guestroom,
slamming the door shut. There was a brief sparking of electricity; she must
have set up her booby trap again.
"What's Going ON Around Here?" the brunette with the violet
eyes screamed.

(Addenda)
In the next story, more would be revealed in: _"A Witch's Brew of
Trouble" _. Jim meets his second worthy opponent. That is, if you don't
count Dianne; or his dad and the military; or Bram. You could even count
Tanix, though _he _wouldn't. Then there are all of those who know Jim,
but not Gem.

This series has a lot in common with _"Jeanni Lamphear" _,
though, because of the nature of the storylines, the characters come out
differently.
