Part 4: The Return
When I opened my eyes - god what time was it? - I nearly laughed
with surprise when I saw her face. I would have known who this

I was just staying here until you returned,"
I sighed and looked at Darcy and Lena, "I know that you guys
offered the small room to me, but I think four girls under one
roof is a bit much. If you guys give me a couple of days to sort
things out, I'll be on my way." I could at least go out with a
greater amount of class than I had been showing everyone lately.
Lena put up a very halfhearted protest, but everyone knew what
was being left unsaid. I was no longer welcome.

I called Linda as soon as I had finished showering. We had been
in fairly constant contact since she had emerged from behind the
scenes two weeks ago. She had told the network executives that I
could not be found, but promised to keep her sources open. They
therefore, left her on the payroll. In the meantime she had
buckled down to doing the job they were actually paying her on
paper to do, become a programming suit. Much of our daily
conversations involved me advising her as to the ins and out of
programming and the network in general, as well as who her allies
and enemies in the company would be.
When she picked up the phone, I explained at length the situation
of Jazz's return, and how I was quite certain I wasn't going to
be here for a great deal longer. She paused long and
contemplatively before asking if I wanted to stay with her. I
didn't have anywhere to go, and it was a solution. I sat and
mulled it over equally long, before answering that we should set
this up for a short-term trial period, then see how it goes.

My bags were packed in the hallway and I sat having what I was

table. Darcy and Lena sat at the table while Jazz stood in the
doorway, nearly out of the room. Her face, as it always was the
