The "Exiv" lay buried under sand from yet another sand
storm, the Tatooine desert was indeed an unforgiving place.
Kyp Ryder had made Tatooine his home after a smuggling run
had gone haywire, and a bounty hunter had finally shot down
his Corellian Corvette the "Exiv". Kyp had only intended to
stay on Tatooine for a few days or a week at the most, but
time had somehow escaped him due to the many adventures he
was having on Tatooine. Kyp Ryder had now called Tatooine
his home for 10 years.
Although Kyp Ryder was a Rodian by birth, he was not your
typical bounty hunter, Rodian but he still did like to hunt
for sport. Kyp Ryder had chosen to be a smuggler instead of
a Bounty Hunter as he always liked the idea of being able
to joy ride through the galaxy at high speeds to evade
capture.
It was almost a completely different Kyp Ryder who five
days after crashing into the Tatooine desert looked up in
the sky and said, "This is finally the place in the galaxy
that I can call home."
At that stage though he still had a spirit for adventure,
along with a thirst to one day go back to his home planet
Rodia in the Tyrius star system at least one more time in
his life.
The place where the "Exiv" had crashed was quite away from
the Mos Eisley spaceport, but Kyp had got quite a good deal
from the Jawa traders for a SoroSuub XP-38 Landspeeder,
which provided him safe passage to Mos Eisley whenever he
needed to go there. The local Sand People had stayed well
out of Kyp's way as far as he was concerned, although there
was the odd one or two close call when he first crash-
landed on Tatooine. Kyp had found it easy to make the
Jawa's good trading partners, and the closest moisture farm
was 900 miles away from where the Exiv had crashed. However
Kyp's major risk was the high population of Krayt dragons
who where constantly at his door step. Krayt dragons for
those of you out there who have not become acquainted with
the beast, are rather large carnivorous reptiles that live
in the Tatooine Mountains. Kyp though had made it a sport
to go and hunt the Krayt dragon, this also soon became his
day to diet as well as a good trade item to the Jawa's.
You may at this stage be thinking that Kyp Ryder is a
loner, but this far from true. Also living aboard the Exiv
we find FX-7 the medical assistant droid. Along with
Karneke who was a Bith alien. Then last but not least there
was Marek Do'Biz of the Ho'Din. To cut a very long story
short Kyp Ryder and his pal Marek Do'Biz where shipping
their cargo of 36 FX-7 droids across the galaxy, with
Karneke as the co-pilot when of course they where shot down
over the Tatooine desert.
Kyp had traded 33 of the FX-7 droids to the Jawa's who had
arrived the next day in their sandcrawler to try and
scavenge the wreck for parts. The Jawa's had provided not
only Kyp's landspeeder but also enough food and water for
the crew to live on for awhile while they rebuilt the Exiv
with the parts the Jawa's had also supplied. Only the Exiv
required a T3-C478D chip that the Jawa's didn't have in
stock at that time.
So our shipwrecked crew set about to live life as best they
could on Tatooine. To pass the first three years Karneke
had rebuilt one of the two remaining FX-7 droids to his
specifications, where Marek had helped Kyp around the ship
as well as setting up his own hydroponic garden aboard the
Exiv to produce food for them all to live on in-between
food shortages.
There was a second reason though as to why we find the crew
of the Exiv still on Tatooine after 10 years, it seems Kyp
Ryder had a love for the Jedi Culture, but was not very
'force' strong at all. Kyp though had also received in his
trade with the Jawa's a Jedi Holocron. Kyp new what the
holocron was meant for but was unable to unlock the secrets
etched into the artifact. The Jedi Holocron you see could
only have it's teachings accessed by a true Jedi Knight.
Our dear friend Kyp Ryder was far from a true Jedi night,
however he was consumed by a passion to one day be the
greatest Jedi Knight in the galaxy.
We enter the world of Kyp Ryder while he is at the Mos
Eisley cantina with both Marek and Karneke. FX-7 is back
aboard the Exiv making sure that in the absence of it's
crew it is not suddenly taken away from some of Tatooine's
other inhabitants. The Mos Eisley cantina has always had a
no droid policy anyway, as Marek had learned the hardway
one night when he had entered with FX-7. But that's another
story so back to the story at hand, where we find Kyp
drinking yet another mug of Norvanian grog.
"That expensive stuff tastes like mud." Marek was saying to
Kyp, but Kyp was allready slipping half a galaxy away as
the potent effects of the beverage where slowly starting to
consume him.
Karneke was growing wary that Kyp in the state he was
slowly getting himself into could prove troublesome,
especially when half the patrons of the Mos Eisley cantina
were very unsavory to say the least.
There was no reason to expect that tonight's patrons where
less unsavory, even though there was a blue furred creature
with four arms called a Pho Ph'eahian propped up against
the bar. Karneke quickly suggested to Marek that it might
be about time to go, just as Kyp somehow managed to walk
backwards into a Wookie.
The Wookie in turn had simply charged forward with arms
swinging furiously, they had connected with Kyp who had now
found himself knocked out on the floor of the Mos Eisley
Cantina. Taking this as their queue to leave, Marek and
Karneke had somehow managed to pick Kyp up off the floor,
before the Wookie could dish out anymore punishment. Our
trio was soon safely aboard the landspeeder and heading
towards the desert, which at night was not a very wise
move. They had planned to go to Mos Eisley, get drunk at
the cantina and then spend the rest of nightfall doing some
raids on a cargo vessel or two. However the plan had
changed the moment Kyp had become unusable for any
mischief, and it was decided that home was better than
running into that Wookie again. The landspeeder was soon
swarming with nightcrawlers, but as long as these small
nocturnal insects where the only thing Tatooine had to
offer in the way of night time disturbances then the trio
was in luck.
However this luck soon turned bad, as the landspeeder
suddenly came to an abrupt halt halfway in between the last
moisture farm and the Exiv. Karneke knew straight away that
Kyp had somehow neglected yet again to take the landspeeder
to Mos Eisley for it's twice a year service. Kyp was still
knocked out, and there was no way that Karneke and Marek
could both carry him back to the Exiv for several reasons.
The main reason was that to leave the landspeeder stranded
in the desert of Tatooine would mean no transport back to
the Mos Eisley spaceport. Even with the landspeeder broken
down, there would somehow at some stage be away to either
trade for parts with the Jawa's or if all else failed take
it to the nearest moisture farm and borrow one of there
landspeeders to transport them to Mos Eisley to sort out
some kind or repairs.
At this moment though the trio was definitely in hot water
that was about to get a lot hotter very soon. It was still
dark on Tatooine, and the trio were now stranded still very
far away from home. Marek was suddenly rendered unconscious
as well but not by a Wookie, this time an airborne gaderffi
stick was the culprit. Before Karneke had time to react he
realized that they where surrounded by the dreaded Tusken
Raiders themselves. The next thing Karneke knew was
darkness.
Kyp was the first to wake up, he all he could see was sand
and fresh bantha tracks. There were also two other bodies
lying in the sand next to him that he soon realized to be
Marek and Karneke. Kyp had no recall of what had unfolded
in the night, and no idea as to why all three of them where
now somewhere in the middle of the desert. Karneke woke up
next, realizing that Kyp was awake he went to check that
Marek was too. News was not good for the Ho'Din creature
who was not going to be seeing another day on Tatooine.
One down and two left, their landspeeder had also been
stolen by the Tusken Raiders. When Kyp and Karneke got to
their feet they gave Marek a proper burial in the sand,
begining the long walk back to the Exiv. All Kyp could
think about was getting revenge on the Tusken Raiders who
had not only stolen his land speader but killed his almost
lifelong pal Marek, a tear entered Kyp's eye for the
longest time he could recall. It took sometime before the
pair arrived back at the Exiv where they where greeted by
FX-7 who was saddened at the news of the loss of Marek,
however FX-7 also sowed the seed for the most foolish idea
of Kyp Ryder's life.
Onboard the Exiv there was a very run down Y-wing that the
crew had forgotten about, but FX-7 had recently taken a few
moments to run inventory on the stock that was left onboard
the Exiv. It took Kyp the next two weeks to bring the Y-
wing up to a state where it could fly again, he was hell-
bent on getting revenge on the Tusken Raiders that had
crossed there path that night in the desert, he was so
hell-bent on revenge that it didn't matter to him as long
as there was Sand People's blood drawn. In the end the only
thing that didn't work on the Y-wing was one of the rear
mounted ion counters.
FX-7 was to co-pilot on this mission in the rear seat of
the Y-WING, with Kyp Ryder once again back in the pilot
seat for the first time in 10 years. Karneke was sitting
this one out to keep watch of the Exiv, as Kyp as captain
had made the executive decision that there would be no more
bloodshed from his crew unless it was his own.
The halfcocked plan was well underway when the Y-wing
safely launched without a hitch, first stop Mos Eisley
spaceport to get some proton torpedoes, second stop KILL
SAND PEOPLE! It all seemed so simple, there was no way this
would go wrong unless it was over Kyp's dead body.
Arriving safely at Mos Eisley, Kyp soon found himself back
at the Mos Eisley cantina. However this time he was not
there to drink Norvanian grog, instead he soon located a
suitable seller of some proton torpedoes who in this case
was a Tin-Tin Dwarf. Once the deal was done, the Y-wing was
armoured up and back off into the desert of Tatooine this
time with one objective. KILL SAND PEOPLE! AT ALL COSTS
KILL SAND PEOPLE!
The Y-wing must have passed at least 90% of the moisture
farmers before it sighted a very large gathering of Tusken
Raiders also known as Sand People. Kyp fired off the
complete payload of Proton Torpedos, that managed to
scatter the Tusken Raiders Banthas. With at least five of
the Tusken Raiders were lying dead in the sand from the
proton torpdeos, the twin lasers at the front of the Y-wing
soon found themselves in action. The battle raged for at
least 40 minute's until that terrible mishap that piloted
the Y-wing somehow into hyperspace and into one of
Tatooine's twin moons with only Kyp Ryder onboard. FX-7
found itself surrounded by a herd of dead Sand People,
deciding it would not be a good idea to wait around for
more Sand People to show up, he plotted his way back to the
Exiv.
It was 10 days until FX-7 was reunited with the Exiv and
it's creator Karneke who was deeply saddened at the loss of
Kyp Ryder. But Karneke was very pleased that at least Kyp
left the galaxy with a smile on his face knowing that he
had taken out a whole tribe of sand people. The next day a
Jawa Sandcrawler arrived to trade with the Exiv, much to
Karneke's amuzement he had found the Jedi Holocron which he
traded to the Jawa's. Unlike Kyp who loved the Jedi
Religion, Karneke was very much a non-believer. The price
that Karneke got was a new landspeeeder this time though it
was a Mobquet Deluxe, along with a very special bag of
lumni-spice.
For those of who you who do not know lumni-spice is the
rarest form of spice in the galaxy. You may ask what makes
this particular bag of lumni-spice very special, well it
turns out that it had the power to grant one wish. However
Karneke didn't manage to figure it out as fast as he should
have, and it was FX-7 who made the wish. What was this wish
you may ask?
Well it was to thank his master by turning Karneke from a
Bith into KT-8. KT-8 lovingly called "Veronica" for reasons
known only to her boyfriend FX-7, is a pink-colored
housekeepingR8 unit, with a female personality programme.
