It was late in the evening when Johnny awoke. He found Sandi and Mary
staring down at him. Both of the women had discovered the mistake made
which resulted in Johnny receiving permanent makeup. Mary had already
explained to Sandi that the procedures were irreversible.
While Johnny was still sleeping, Sandi had cut his hair evenly giving him
a sexy shoulder length do. Sandi had asked Mary about the dangers of

"How are you feeling?" Mary asked when Johnny began to stir.

"Not bad at all. You just received a couple of small scrapes and a bruise

will not be as dramatic as in the past."
Mary hesitated a moment before continuing "After you were admitted..."
One of the nurses ran into the room and turned on the television. "I'm
sorry to disturb you but I was watching the television in the break room
and Woman's World is about to do a story about Ladies Choice! I knew you
wouldn't want to miss it!" The nurse left the room in a hurry to inform
as many other staff members as possible before the story began.
"I had all but given up on them", Mary said as the program returned from
commercial.
Then the screen was filled with Andrea's face and she began to speak.
"This story is about a new woman owned business. It would seem on the
surface Ladies Choice in California is all about offering treatments and
pampering to make any woman look and feel her very best."
The screen was filled with panoramic views of the clinics location.
Andrea's voice filled the speaker extolling the modern equipment and
opulent accommodations as the picture showed the operating room, the
hospital rooms, the guest suites, the salon, and the boutique.
"On the surface, Ladies Choice seems to be another spa offering customers
the latest and best in cosmetic surgery, beauty services, and gracious
accommodations. The fact that it is owned and ran by a staff totally
comprised of women would be noteworthy but not newsworthy."
"What makes this Ladies Choice special is that it is where miracles take
place!"
The screen was filled with the title "A MIRACLE IN CALIFORNIA". The
screen faded into black and then everyone was staring at the screen
showing Johnny's battered former face. All three of them took a sudden
intake of breath at the sight.
"This is Jeanette just after she was savagely beaten by a mugger. She,
nor the authorities, knows who savagely beat her so badly. In years past,
she would have been reminded of the violence perpetrated upon her every
time she would pass in front of a mirror. However, modern medicine and a
gifted surgeon have been able to remove all of the visible signs of the
attack."
The screen was again filled with scenes of Johnny showing Andrea around
the facilities followed by a close-up of his smiling face. Jeanette's
sweet soprano voice began telling the story about how Mary's doctoring
and Sandi's beauty expertise had enabled her to become the woman she was
today. Johnny immediately realized that the tape had been edited to tell
a story the way the producer wanted.
Snippets of Sandi and Mary were shown as Mary described in detail all of
the work that had been performed. Sandi told briefly how she had taught
"Jeanette" how to fix "her" makeup and style "her" hair to bring out
"her" best features. Other than the few minutes Sandi and Mary were on
screen, the entire story was about "Jeanette" and how "she" was now
working at Ladies Choice in gratitude for all of the help "she" had
received there.
Fifteen minutes later, Andrea summarized.
"This has been a story about one special woman and the special place that
changed a face badly damaged from a violent act to that of a beauty queen
because of a loving act. Ladies, imagine what Ladies Choice could do for
you! Will you be the next miracle in California?"
"Will you be the next miracle in California?" Mary exclaimed. "That line
is the equivalent of a twenty million dollars advertising campaign!" Mary
and Sandi were beside themselves with joy.
"Great," Johnny sighed in defeat. "What about me. I'll never be able to
run away from this. From now on I'm the miracle girl. Wherever I go,
people will know me. If I ever try to return to being Johnny, I'll run
the risk of some reporter finding out that I was once the 'miracle girl'.
If the truth were ever discovered, I'd be disgraced and Ladies Choice
would be ruined."
No one spoke. The two women remained silent while Johnny reconciled
himself to being Jeanette long into the future.
After several minutes, Johnny looked at his wife and smiled. "I guess I
had better start paying better attention to your makeup lessons."
"It won't be that hard" Sandi smiled back. You see, when you changed
rooms..."
Will You Be The Next Miracle?
Ladies Choice became a rousing success. Within minutes of broadcast, the
switch board was lit up like a Christmas tree. It now took six months to
get an appointment at the clinic. The facility expanded and expanded but
still couldn't keep up with the demand.
The hair growing formula has never been completely tested. As Mary hired
new doctors, she kept trying to test the product. She used husbands of
some of the staff members since they had a vested interest in the company
and the profits it made. Charlotte continued to assist in the testing and
evaluation but the results were always the same. It seemed that none of
the men could wait a long enough period before their hair was cut. Some
of them chose to cut their hair while others had their hair cut in
unusual circumstances. The clinic was finding "new women" from unexpected
sources to fill the new positions created with the clinic's growth.
Despite the lack of success of the hair formula, everyone is happy. The
clinic continues to grow and help women. With greater success comes
greater responsibility. The clinic has been secretly helping abused women
who do not have the ability to pay for their services. When the women
left they didn't owe a dime. Some decided to stay and take a position
because they had come to love Ladies Choice's facilities and staff.
Jeanette became the spokeswoman for Ladies Choice and spends much of her
time traveling the country appearing on television programs and being
interviewed by magazines and newspapers. Her face is seen in many women's
magazines below the headline "Will You Be the Next Miracle in
California?"
To keep up appearances, she sometimes is photographed in the company of
one handsome man or another. Sandi had urged her to begin going with men
when the event required a male escort. "Think of a man like any other
accessory," her wife urged. One popular national magazine had her on the
cover dressed to kill with her trademark waist length hair blowing
gently. Her escort, a popular, handsome leading man in Hollywood, held
her arm as they strolled into one of Hollywood's best restaurants.
When Jeanette is back at the clinic she and Sandi share the same home.
They are more in love than ever. After spending time apart, they can't
wait to spend nights sharing the same bed. The matching nightgowns rarely
last the night before they are discarded.
After briefly trying the genital shrinking cream provided by Forever
Femme, Sandi decided that she adored one masculine aspect Johnny still
possessed. Someday she hoped they might have a baby. She was a firm
believer that infants should breast feed for health reasons and to form a
special bond with their mothers. She hoped that Jeanette would be able to

Sandi loves the new "vitamins" Mary prescribed for Jeanette. The new

"Welcome to Heaven, number 24," Samson said as he extended his large
right hand to the 'Say Hey Kid'.
"I'm glad I made it," Willie said as he returned the firm handshake.
"Where's Peter? I thought he was in charge of greeting here."
"He's off today?gone fishing, I think. He knew you were arriving today
and asked me to welcome you since you and I have something in common."
"Something in common? You aien't talking about that stupid ass story
written 20 years ago, are you?"
"You got it! Can you believe that load of crap won a Pulitzer Prize? I
guess it was the times. Remember all of the commotion about that first
movie about gay cowboys? It was about that same period."
Willie adjusted his cap and asked, "I always wondered what Roy Rogers
thought of that one."
"Don't ask. Suffice it to say he got real tired of our ride 'em cowboy
jokes."
"Even accounting for the times, what were the voters thinking giving that
ditzy blonde a Pulitzer Prize. She didn't even know my playing number was

Head. In a way, I'm sorry Barry's head exploded before he passed Henry's
homerun total. By the way, where is Barry? I thought he would meet me
here."
Samson looked down and answered, "Don't ask!"
"Oh!"
"I get notified whenever my name is mentioned down there. That's how I
first heard about that 'Great Work of Literature'? How is it that you
knew about that story from the very get-go?"
"Don't ask!"
"Gotcha! We don't mind kinky here but we have a rule against perverted."
"Keeping in mind I lived in San Francisco a very long time, what's the

"Yeah, that's right. Some were real pissed at Sandi and Mary too. It's
too bad the writer didn't finish publishing the chapter about what
happens when Johnny/Jeanette finds out about all that was done to
him/her. In a way, it's too bad Ms. Johnson's private plane went down on
her way to testify before Congress about federal funding for
transgendered fiction. It appears that all of her jewelry and that
Academy Award statue overtaxed the plane's weight capacity."
"I would like to know how she planned for Johnny to get even. Is she here
so I can ask?"
Samson hit the ground laughing. After a few minutes he regained enough
control to ask, "Remember what I said about us not liking perverted?"
