He was doing the main bath when Deanna told him he had to do the floor. She told him there was a mop in the kitchen closet but that he would do it with a rag on his hands and knees. She told him everything he needed was under the kitchen sink. She reminded him that he had to rinse it with clear water after he was done with the scrubbing. He was scrubbing the floor and thankful to be off the heels. He did a great job on the floor and when he rinsed it it shone like new. Deanna checked it and told him there was hope for him yet. He did the half bath and it went fast. He thought he was done but Deanna told him he had to do the kitchen floor. He was getting exasperated but started the floor. About halfway through his knees were starting to get sore. He managed to finish the floor. Deanna told him supper was ready and he was never so glad to be able to sit down. She told him he really had a knack for scrubbing floors. She said she never got them sparkling like he did. He felt a sense of pride hearing that. She told him she was having six friends over tonight and that after he did the dishes he was to go change into the pink uniform with the pink heels. He finished the dishes and went to her to unlock his heels. She told him to hurry, that the guests would be arriving shortly. He got the pink uniform on and was walking back into the living room when the doorbell rang. He answered the door and saw Betsy Johnson, their neighbor, standing there. He blushed and she let out a laugh. She told him he looked really cute in his uniform. He thanked her. Next to arrive was Shirley Brooks who lived on the other side of them. Deanna told him to clean up the living room and the kitchen before he went to bed. She unlocked his heels and told him to leave them on until he got ready for bed. She told him she was going to bed, that she was tired. He started the clean up and wondered why she didn't ask if he was tired. He was tired and looked forward to the comfort of the bed. When he finished the clean-up he looked around to see if he had missed anything. He saw he had gotten everything and headed for bed. He loved how the bed felt, and fell asleep almost immediately. At eight he went and changed then sat in the recliner to wait for her to get home. At nine-thirty he heard the garage door open and knew she was home. It took a bit of time before the garage door closed. Deanna came in and called for Penny. He got up and went into the kitchen. Deanna was there kissing someone. He couldn't see who it was. When they broke their embrace he saw it was Tyler Benton, one of his closest friends. Deanna said "You know Penny, my sissy husband." Tyler said, "Hello, Penny," and grabbed Deanna and kissed her again. Deanna took his hand and started to lead him toward the bedroom. She asked Penny if he wanted to watch. He told her to go to hell. He told her he just read about a new disease that had affected at least twenty-four people across the country. He said it was called Amazon River Fever. He told her that she had all the symptoms of it. He told her the blood test would show if that was what it was. The blood test came back and he told her that was what she had. He gave her a prescription for an antibiotic and bed rest. He told her that if she wasn't better in three days she should come back. She left and in the car she told Penny everything the doctor said. He became concerned about her health. She had never been sick before. She was getting dizzy and told him to stop. He stopped and when he looked at her she was shaking her head. He didn't know what to make of it. They got home and he had to help her into the house. He helped her get to the bedroom and undressed her. He got her nightgown on her and got her into bed. He covered her and was very worried. He didn't know what to do. He figured she would sleep for awhile. He left and picked up her prescription and stopped at the car lot and told them he wouldn't be in for awhile because Deanna was very sick. They wanted to know if they could do anything. He told them to pray for her. Back at home he managed to get her to take a pill. It took him ten minutes to get her to take it. She was out of touch with reality. He hovered near her in case she needed anything. She said "Water!" and he got her a glass of ice water. He held it to her lips and she drank a little. He felt better that she at least said something clearly instead of the mumbling she'd been doing. She woke for a minute and asked for a fried egg. He went to make it. He brought it back in the bedroom and she was sleeping. He tried to wake her but to no avail. He got some egg on the fork and got it into her mouth. He saw her chew and swallow. He was very happy. She ate the whole egg without opening her eyes. He had never seen her like this and it worried him. That night he dozed in a chair right next to her side of the bed. He woke often checking on her. Once she was taking short quick breaths and he wondered why she was doing that. As he watched she resumed normal breathing. He dozed some more. The next morning he got her to take her pill and to eat a piece of toast. She even managed a thank you that made him hopeful she was going to get better. All day she rested and he watched, just eating a light lunch. In the evening she woke up and asked what day it was. He told her and she asked for some water. He got it and she said she was so thirsty. She said the doctor had told her that she would be thirsty a lot. She was awake for about twenty minutes, then fell asleep again. He felt a lot better now that she seemed a little better. The next morning she was awake and said she was hungry. He fixed her an egg, bacon and jelly toast. She fed herself and commented on how great it tasted. He was all smiles now. She said she felt quite a bit better now. He told her to stay in bed and completely recover. She told him he was a dear and he told her he loved her. She started to doze again and he felt like celebrating. He decided to get something, he didn't know what. He drove and parked in front of Carter's clothing store. He went in and looked at dresses. He saw one that really caught his eye. It was a multi-colored full skirted dress with lace trimmed ruffles. He loved it. He went to try it on. It fit like it was made for him. He loved how the silk dress felt on him. The main color was a deep blue so he looked to see if they had any blue shoes. They didn't, but the clerk told him to try the shoe store across the street. He checked out and headed across the street. There they had three pair that were the same deep blue his dress was. He picked the three inch heels with the ruffle edge. He was feeling great and decided he was going to get some new lipstick at the drug store. He picked a brown lipstick that he thought was pretty. He got home and just had to change into his new clothes. He looked at himself in the mirror and silently said to himself that he looked great in the dress. He went and sat by Deanna. Deanna woke up and saw him sitting there. She asked if he had sat there the whole time, and he said most of it. He told her he was really worried about her. She said she had the most realistic dreams. She said in one she was being chased by a man who turned into a woman and fought with her. She said she don't remember how it ended. Then she got a real serious look on her face. She told him he could go back to his men's clothes. He said he was going to stay in dresses for at least a couple more days. Then she noticed his dress and asked where that came from. He said it was on sale and that he just had to buy it. She laughed and told him he was just like a woman. He had to laugh with her.
