All three where like minded in their curiosity as well as there boredom. The Karitons seemed like the most responsible, they came from the distant future. Very few species ever became as advanced as the Karitons, Ascikeans and Verxik. Usually when they did they tended to upload their minds into a computer singularity or drift off into alternate realities and timelines. Actually most of what the Ascension Collective did only effected one timeline at a time. Nearly all timelines are identical, and time manipulation has it's rules. You can only do so many changes to a timeline before it loses it's elasticity. Some humans would learn all about that soon enough, although I wont be focusing on that. Earth has been visited by this strange Ascension Collective. They decided that they didn't want to beat around the bush. They simply brought there ships out and stated they existed. They said they'd do there best not to destroy planet Earth, but they couldn't make any promises as they were going to offer to make some changes that could be pretty intense. They were going to give a few people abilities and immortality, only to those who qualified. The wealthy were excluded. Those with families were exlcuded and those who wanted to have children were told the process would make them sterile, and they could not have super powers and the ability to procreate, it simply wasn't an option. But they gave humanity nearly a decade to settle down, because there was quite an uproar at first. But society didn't completely crumble. There was some changes however. Some countries did fall a part or re-unite. There was great social upheaval at first. Some nations wanted to fight the aliens but there was no way to breach there defenses. The Ascension Collection ignored threats made toward them. They never reacted to any attempts to shoot them down. They had dealt with many primitive species before and understood that they'd be frightened at first. Also they knew that the powers, whether it was the aristocracy, the world governing bodies or spiritual leaders would be resistant to allowing them to cause any sort of upheaval. Soon they'd grant a few thousand humans with abilities, some would be bizarre, others generic. Some would be trivial and others could be devastatingly powerful. They hoped they wouldn't destroy this species. It had been known to happen, even though they tried to place fail safes, regulating by making it soe those with the most obscenely powerful abilities would have difficulty using such powers in a way that could destroy the little blue planet they lived on. Derek received his acceptance letter for his ability. The ability to transform anyone to the same sex as he. It seemed like The Ascension Collection would give any power to anyone, as long as they didn't have children or were excessively wealthy. Derek went on his quest to seek revenge on his ex-girlfriend. He knew it was immature and tat he would be better off to forget about it but how else would he spend his existence, and in a hundred years or so he'd be female and totally be able to change her back. By then he was sure that he'd have been able to bury the hatchet. For now though he wanted to cause trouble. It didn't take long before he noticed a few people with powers. He hung out with a lot of geeks and weirdos who typically had difficulty or indifference when it came to dating. So it wasn't unusual that a lot of his friends had chosen to apply for powers. Some could speak with animals, fly or teleport. Some seemed to have disappeared from social media now that they had something more interesting to apply themselves to. There were also other people with powers that were using them for ill gain, or just because they were bored and enjoyed the power. He saw a person trying to shoot lasers from his palms and destroy buildings. But sometimes the blasts wouldn't work. Soon the authorities realized that ceramics suppressed the persons abilities. They discovered the element that neutralized his abilities. Derek remembered reading about neutralizing elements, or neutralizers when he was researching for his powers. It seemed a lot of people glossed over that part. Neutralizers where kind of like kryptonite, different abilities would have different neutralizers. The more destructive or dangerous ability the more common the neutralizer. Derek was certain his power would have been under valued by the Ascension Collective, therefor his neutralizer would be quite rare. The laserman was apprehended. Derek wondered how the authorities were going to handle this situation. Some advocated that anyone with special abilities should be sent to special facilities so they couldn't harm anyone. Others stated that only criminals or the one's who were especially dangerous should be treated this way. Derek wasn't too worried about that. Since his ability was reincarnation he would always have every death was a chance at freedom if they decided to imprison him. He continued on his way, until he was at her house. Dina, he discovered that there were many cars parked outside the house. I guess there would be many people with powers, a lot of them his old friends. He also saw that Dina's even more dangerous ex was there and he was shouting about how he would have completely wrecked the place if she hadn't had the powers she had. Derek quickly deduced that Dina chose the ability to negate any other immortals power. So all of her friends would be protected and nothing could harm her. Derek decided to leave, it was a stupid plan anyway, revenge wasn't what wanted. But the even more abusive ex followed him as he left. He had been trying to get back with Dina the entire time that Derek and her had been dating, so he was even more resentful of him. As soon as he was out of the effects of Dina's abilities he used his powers, shooting flames and fire. Derek avoided it at first. His abilities would have no effect. Why hadn't he chosen telekinetic abilities, flight or time travel. He had to chose something useless, especially since in his current form he couldn't even change this man's sex. Maybe that would have confused him and given Derek more time to escape. "It's kind of ironic that you have fire power," Derek's last words were, but the man wasn't going to respond vocally. It was only after he got the good news that he and his newly wed wife were going to be having there first child that having children disqualified people from gaining abilities. His disappointment was short lived though, he loved his wife and he's love his daughter. It was a small price to pay to have a happy family. Also it seemed like the people who got the powers were quite reckless and violent. He saw a man throw a car only a few hours after it was announced that the powers that people had asked for had been granted. These shenanigans were uncalled for, and he hoped that the police and government agencies would get a hold over things. He would see super powered people fighting in the streets, he didn't know who were the good guys and who were the villains. It really didn't seem to matter though, either way they were causing lots of trouble and destruction. It was worse than they riots when he was a child when the aliens first arrived. All they ever brought was trouble, and he was glad that they had left. Or at least it seemed like they had. "It's a beautiful baby girl, and she's healthy and breathing normally," The doctor announced when the birth was finally concluded. The did a bit of a check up on the child but soon Zea was back in her mother's arms. Mathew helped with the paper work, and before long they were home, which Mathew was thankful was still standing and raising their family. Derek was now Zea but she didn't quite understand this yet. She responded to the name Zea, it's what every called her. For the first few years she was just a normal little girl, one who would occasionally say strange things about being a boy in a past life. But children say the strangest things and often times she would forget why she had said such a thing. As she grew though the memories became clearer and the identity she had had in a past life began to resurface. This would be a typical trend with each rebirth. It was very strange but it made things easier in a way.By the time she was ten she had no doubt of who she once was. It was awkward, a lot weirder than she expected it would be. She started with the master bedroom and sure enough Jason and Megan were there, and one look at Megan's face and Zea was sure she was either too drunk to be making a wise decision or perhaps even drugged out on some kind of sedative. He couldn't figure it out. Zea grabbed Megan and any articles of clothing that had been seperated from her and rushed her into the bathroom. Megan groaned and looked around. Zea helped her get dressed and they heard a somewhat feminine voice shout. "My dick's gone, it's a vagina!" From the bedroom. "That's our cue to ditch this party," Zea hastily said. "I thought I was getting laid," Megan groggily inquired. "Trust me, you would have regretted it in the morning," Zea said as the rushed down the stairs. Zea was glad that she didn't see Jason anywhere, but it was only a matter of time before that newly made young woman would stumble out of the bedroom looking for his(or her?) lost manhood. Zea couldn't change a girl into a guy if she wanted to. She'd have to die eight times before that'd be an option. She just hoped that Jason wouldn't realize the reason why she'd need to get used to that female pronoun and why she'd need to start thinking up a new female name.
