Anna was in the kitchen setting the table. The stir fry had just
finished cooking and as she turned the knob on the stove top, she heard
a woman's voice talking. At first it was far away but it soon sounded
much closer. She heard the front door open and close and continued to
hear the female voice.
"..and that's all I was going to do tonight." Was the end of the
conversation that Anna had heard as she grabbed her beer bottle and
walked toward the front door.
As she entered the living room, she saw a woman talking to her still
feminine dressed husband.
The two saw Anna enter the room and immediately turned their attention
to her.
Angela approached the shocked Anna with her hand extended.
"So nice to meet you, hi I'm Angela Coleman. I work with your sister,
and as it turns out we're also neighbors." Angela explained everything
in one breath as Anna shook her hand.
"Hi, nice to meet you, I've heard a little about you as Jordan was just
filling me in on her day," Anna nervously replied as she had to remember
the correct pronouns as she talked about Jordan.
Jordan couldn't believe this day. He wanted nothing more than to remove
all this female attire and put his male clothes back on and have a few
beers to relax. Now he had to extend his cross-dressing day into the
evening.
"Can I get you a beer or something?" Anna asked. Jordan's eyes grew wide
as he heard Anna say this and made a face behind Angela.
"A beer would be fantastic, thanks!" Angela replied.
Anna set her beer on a side table and left the room to get a cold beer
out of the refrigerator. She could still hear Angela as she started to
speak. "Yaw know, I thought I saw a husband and wife move into this
house."
Anna's heart raced.
Jordan nervously replied in his softest feminine voice, "No, no, just my
sister and I."
"Well I had the binoculars out and everything when you guys were moving
in." Angela confessed not embarrassed about it at all. Anna returned
from the kitchen with a cold beer for Angela and the beer Jordan was
drinking earlier as Angela continued"..I saw you Anna, and there was a
guy.
Anna just finishing taking a sip from her beer said, "oh, uh, you know
who that was? It was Jason. He was making sure I got in ok cause Jordan
didn't come until the next day."
Jordan smiled. "Yup, that's who it was. I was a day late," he nervously
added.
"Oh, that makes sense, I wasn't here the next day so I couldn't spy."
She said as she laughed. Anna followed suit right after and laughed.
Jordan just took a long swig of his beer.
"Had I known two single women moved in across the street, I would have
been over with a 12 pack sooner than this." Angela continued as everyone
started laughing.
"Well, Jordan and I were just going to sit down and eat." Anna started.
Jordan breathed a sigh of relief as he heard his wife trying to get
Angela out of here but quickly felt a cold chill as Anna continued her
sentence.
"...we'd love it, if you would join us."
"There it was" Jordan thought. "now not only am I going to have to find
a new job, but now we're going to have to move, probably even sneak out
in the middle of the night with 'MURDER SHE WROTE' living across the
way." He continued to think as Angela looked at him and then Anna again.
"You guys sure? I was only surprised to see Jordan living across the
street, and just wanted to say hi, I don't want to intrude." She
confirmed.
"It's no problem, common', let me just set you out a plate." Anna walked
to the kitchen as Angela followed.
Jordan stayed behind in the living room and downed the beer that he had
been nursing.
About a minute later, he walked into the kitchen where a seated Angela
was being served a plate of food by Anna.
Angela had taken his place at the table, and the extra plate which was
now his place was on the other end of the table.
Jordan grabbed a plate and scooped some of the chicken stir fry into his
plate and put it on the table. He opened the refrigerator and pulled out
another beer.
He looked up and held up the beer. "Anybody else ready for another?"
Angela smiled, "I'm not yet, but girl, I love where your head is at."
Jordan finally sat down at the table as he kept sort of silent as Anna
and Angela talked. He interjected when he was asked a question or if
someone said something funny, he laughed along with them.
He was too preoccupied with thoughts about what he and Angela were going
to do about this. How could they keep this charade up now that Angela
was their neighbor?
Jordan thought about ripping off the skirt and blouse in front of her
and just telling her right then and there that he was a man and that
this was a bad joke gone wrong. A couple times he tried to pump himself
up to do this, but every time he chickened out. He thought more beer
would make him more brave, but it really was only making him more
buzzed.
Dinner moved along nicely. Trick or treaters interrupted their
conversation only a handful of times and each time Jordan would be the
one to get up to deliver the candy. Mostly so he didn't have to do any
talking or sit there dressed as a woman any longer. He hated speaking in
his soft woman voice, and the less times he had to do it, the happier he
was.
Anna seemed very comfortable with Angela. She knew Jordan was boiling
but she couldn't do anything about it with her visiting, so she only
tried to be pleasant with their guest.
"I see you have some furniture on your front porch, how about we have a
few more beers and move this party outside." Angela suggested.
Jordan started to yawn and stretch as he faked being worn out, but it
was all for nothing as Anna quickly jumped in with a reply.
"I think that's a wonderful idea."
Jordan shot his wife a death stare behind Angela's back but quickly
changed it to a smile as Angela turned towards him.
"Jordan, you should go change and get more comfortable, you've been in
that skirt and blouse all day. I have some good rum I've been looking to
open up and this just might be the occasion. I'm going to run home real
quick, and I'll meet you outside." Angela said as she bolted for the
door.
Anna had left the room and was making some noise in the kitchen. Jordan
slowly walked to the kitchen entrance and watch his wife. First, she
grabbed a six pack of beer. She opened up a cabinet in the kitchen's
pantry and pulled out a small cooler. She opened it and put the beers
inside. Then she opened up the freezer door and took out a bag of ice
and put it over the beers in the cooler.
Anna saw Jordan standing in the doorway watching her. Finally after she
was ready to carry the cooler to the porch Jordan spoke up.
"What are you doing? What the hell is this?" He asked confused and
pissed off.
"Jordan, I'm sorry but what are we going to do? She works with you and
lives across the street from us. I couldn't just be rude and tell her to
get lost. What if you change your mind and decide to take the
position.." Anna continued until she said the last line and was
immediately cut off by Jordan.
"..whoa whoa, hold on a second. Take the position? How can I continue
working there when they think I'm a woman? I would have to be woman full
time. Jordan replied amazed that his wife would even bring something
like that up.
Anna opened up the cooler that she had just worked on and opened a beer.
She took a sip and didn't make eye contact with Jordan ,as she said,
"Well, I was thinking...Maybe if you should just continue with this
position, just until you found something else." She said cautiously.
Jordan couldn't believe what he was hearing. He looked at his wife with
a shocked look.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Jordan was livid. "This is unbelievable.
I didn't want to even do this in the first place, but you pushed, you
said it was going to be funny. Even after I finally agreed to this, I
told you that this was a one time thing and I wasn't going to be
dressing like this after today, ever again!"
"Jordan, we need the money." Anna interrupted his rant.
"I admit, I messed up. You had this perfect position lined up and I had
to go and throw a wrench into the mix. I will continue to apologize for
that, but we aren't doing that well off where you can just not show up
for the job again." Anna explained.
Jordan listened but was still furiously pacing the kitchen.
"I say, continue to look for something else and send out a ton of
resumes over the weekend and weeknights, but in the meantime continue
with this job, continue doing this." She ranted as she finally took a
long swig from her beer bottle.
The couple heard the front door open. Jordan put his finger to his lips
to silence his wife as they waited for Angela to appear in the kitchen
doorway. To their surprise, it was Jason who appeared.
His eyes immediately grew wide as he saw Jordan still dressed as a
woman.
"You're still dressed up?" Jason asked.
Jordan was embarrassed and faced the sink as he leaned on the countertop
with both hands.
Anna jumped in, "Angela from work, is our neighbor, she saw Jordan
taking out the trash."
Jason covered his face with his hands. "Well this just keeps getting
worse as the day goes on, doesn't it?" He angrily replied.
Anna gave him a confused look as Jason started pulling something out of
his pocket.
Jordan turned around as Jason handed him the clothing allowance check.
"Mr. Johansson saw that you left this on your desk and thought you would
need it for the weekend, so that you can get more work clothes." Jason
explained.
Jordan sighed, "What am I going to do?"
"I haven't figured that out yet, but I need a beer." He said.
Anna reached into the small cooler that was set up for outside and
handed Jason a beer.
"I think he should continue to work there as he is, until we think of a
plan and a way out of this." Anna quickly threw out there.
Jason popped the top of his bottle, took a long sip.
Jordan scoffed.
Jason put the bottle on the table. "I think you may be right."
Jordan's eyes bulged from his head. "You've got to be kidding me? Jason,
what about all that talk earlier in the office that I should disappear,
that I don't come back, and now you're changing your tune and think this
charade should continue?"
"Ughhhh" Jason grunted back. "This is my reputation. I vouched for you,
I built you up and Mr. Johanson let me have full reign over bringing you
into the company. Today after you had left, he made a personal visit to
your office, saw that you had forgotten the clothing allowance check,
and proceeded to chase down my car as I was leaving to make sure I gave
it to you so that you could come in Monday with a new wardrobe." He
sighed.
"I can't just change my tune now and say that you didn't work out or
worse yet, come out as a joke or a farce to Ed Johanson. With the check,
and now knowing that Angela lives across the street from you, I think we
need to keep this secret going a little while longer, like Anna said,
just until we figure a way out." Jason explained.
Jordan sighed. "I love how you guys are just deciding my life for me. So
I'll go to work dressed as a woman, I'll come home, probably with Angela
because I'm sure she'll want to walk home together and then probably
later plan to have dinner with her because my wife just became best
friends with her. I'll go to bed and then wake up and do it all over the
following day?" Jordan paced the kitchen as he ranted.
"This was supposed to be a Halloween joke, not Halloween for life!"
Jordan started reaching down the back of his blouse. He started
squirming, "I got to get out of this damn bra."
The tension was definitely felt in the room, but that last comment did
make Jason smirk but didn't laugh until Anna snickered.
The pair laughed which soon made Jordan laugh about it.
The air seemed a little lighter after they finally laughed about it.
Jordan continued to pace, but it wasn't as frantic as before, "I can't
believe I'm going to continue doing this."
"Look, I'll help you find another job as good as this one. Then we make
an exit. I'll try and switch Angela to a night shift position, that way
you wouldn't see her and then we try and find a new address. I'm hoping
we can turn this around by Thanksgiving." Jordan explained.
"Three more weeks like this?" Jordan sighed. He cracked open another
beer and took a sip. "If I'm going to do this, I need you guys to help
me, and guide me. I have no clue how to act like a woman and I don't
want to look like a moron." Jordan explained. "But also nothing too
extreme done to me, these eyebrows were enough." He said pointing to
them.
"We're here for you babe." Anna tried to calm him. "Jason and I will
always be here for you. You know that."
Angela surprised the group as she appeared in the doorway with her
bottle of rum in her hand. "Oh my God! This all makes sense now." Angela
announced.
Jordan's jaw dropped.
Jason felt his heart in his throat. "Angela knows." He thought.
"That's why Jason was here with Anna before Jordan moved in. You guys
are a couple and you got her sister Jordan the position,." She
exclaimed.
The group was silent as Angela explained the theory.
Jordan quickly tried to think of something to say, but the alcohol was
taking effect and he was feeling a little buzzed.
Anna quickly interjected. "Yes, it's true. Jason and I are going out."
Both Jason and Jordan turned toward Anna.
Jordan was shocked with what his wife had just said until Jason chimed
in and backed her up.
"I'm sorry Angela. I didn't say anything because I didn't want you to
think that I was getting my girlfriend's sister a job. I really did know
Jordan first and we've been friends for a long time, I mentioned Jordan
to Mr. Johansson, not expecting that he would want to bring Jordan in
right away." Jason began to explain as Angela interrupted him.
"Jason, It doesn't matter. You're a good HR manager and I trust you. I
think Jordan is a perfect fit to the company and if anyone other than me
were going to get that position, I'm glad it went to Jordan." Angela
expressed.
Everyone sighed a sigh of relief except Jordan who still stood there in
shock.
"But you two guys together? I love that!" She trailed off as she pointed
to Anna and Jason as a couple.
"Well Jordan, I guess it's just the two of us as the single women."
Jordan downed his beer.
"I think some shots are in order!" Angela stated as she opened up the
rum bottle.
Anna reached in a cabinet above the refrigerator and returned to the
kitchen table with 4 shot glasses.
With a quick hand Angela poured the rum into each shot glass, capped the
rum bottle and passed out the shots to the room.
Everyone grabbed their shot glass and toasted.
"Cheers!" Angela said as everyone downed their shot.
"It's still early, want to still sit outside for a little while?" Angela
asked.
This time it was Jordan who immediately accepted the offer. "Yes, lets,
but I want to change first." He said.
"Finally!" Angela said as Angela and Jason started to walk to the door.
"Anna, can you help me find something?" He asked
The two listened for Angela and Jason to walk out the door and finally
the door closed.
"Why? Why do you keep making deeper lies?" Jordan asked feeling
betrayed.
"Honey, I'm sorry if that was out of the blue, but there was no other
way around it." She explained.
"Uhhh yeah, not tell our neighbor that my best friend is dating my
wife," he said with his arms folded.
Jordan looked at her pissed.
"I had to agree with her, and I didn't hear you saying anything. Think
about it, she came into the kitchen only hearing half of our story, and
thank God it wasn't the first half about you being a woman full time.
She assumed Jason and I were a couple when I told you that we were here
for you. My lie covered the comment and the mystery of the guy who was
here on moving day." Anna quickly and quietly argued.
"But you heard her, referring to me as a 'single woman', I swear she's
going to try and hook me up." Jordan feared.
"So that's when you tell her no. Or come up with some other excuse."
Anna replied.
"You should have just corrected her and said that Jason and I were going
out, that way I would be safe from any set ups or blind dates," Jordan
explained.
"That would have been so much worse," Anna replied.
"How do you figure?" Jordan asked confused.
"You tell her that you're dating Jason, now you've set yourself up for
lunch dates with him everyday, maybe hold hands, possibly kiss? Because
you have to keep the lie going," Anna explained.
Jordan hadn't thought about that. "UGhhh! This is getting so
frustrating," Jordan replied.
"I know babe, but right now we've got to get out there and mingle with
our guests," Anna said as Jordan grabbed the small cooler off the table,
but was surprised when Anna held his shoulder. "But first we have to get
you into something a little more comfortable"
"I was afraid of that" Jordan replied.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Ten minutes later Jordan and Anna finally met their guests on the front
porch. They opened the door and brought out the cooler.
"Well well well, nice of you ladies to join us." Angela announced.
"Yeah really guys, I almost finished off all this Halloween candy."
Jason replied while holding up the candy dish that was meant for the
Trick or Treaters.
Angela got a good look at Jordan as he passed by her to sit. "I love
Kenny Chesney," she said.
Jordan sat down on a porch chair next to Anna and looked at Angela
confused.
"Your shirt, Kenny Chesney. I love him," she explained.
"Oh yeah, me too," was Jordan's reply but it was a lie. He actually
didn't know what Anna had dressed him in. But as he finally sat, he got
a good look.
It was true that he and Anna were about the same size in clothing. They
already knew that he fit into her blouses and skirts, and now as he wore
a pair of her shorts, they could check that off the list too. No one saw
the shorts though as the Kenny Chesney shirt was big and came down to
just above Jordan's knees. Anna bought it like that and used it as a
night shirt. Anna had also tied his hair in a high ponytail. Jordan felt
really self conscious because he realized that he looked really girly.
"Oh and Jason tells me that he just hand delivered your clothing
allowance check to you," Angela said as she lit a cigarette. She handed
the lighter and the pack to Jordan as he took one out of the pack and
lit it then handed the pack back.
"I think the three of us need a girls day out tomorrow," Angela
announced.
Jason looked at Jordan and Anna.
Angela took a drink straight out of the rum bottle and passed it to
Anna, then continued. "You've got to get some work clothes anyway, and I
think with Anna and I along with you, we can get you some nice stuff."
she continued.
After Anna took a sip from the bottle she handed it to Jordan. Jordan
followed suit and took a sip.
"Well, I'm not sure..." Anna began.
Jordan jumped right in. "Ok, let's shop!"
Anna and Jason couldn't believe their ears.
Jordan looked at the group, "I mean, I need new clothes anyway, right?"
he replied.
Anna smiled at him.
"Excellent, we're going to have so much fun! Oh and I have a little
surprise. While I was at home, I made a call, and pulled some strings
and got the three of us appointments at the salon on main tomorrow
morning. My girlfriend works there and she's going to take care of us."
Angela said shockingly.
Jordan choked on the smoke that he just inhaled and quickly sipped his
beer.
"What?" he asked.
"We're going to get Anna all beautiful for her new job, and Jordan when
they're through with you, you'll be runway material."
Jordan swallowed hard.
