As the convoy finally reached Omega Seven, I was getting anxious. Shayla
just smiled at me. "We have to get our records straight before we can go
any further," she said. "I need to set up the Diner accounts with the
bank, and get our new ID's and Permanent Passports. But we should be
back on the road in four days."
Lotus then spoke silently to me, "There is a place of relaxation and
rejoicing her called the Kitten's Parade."
I looked at Momma and Priscilla who both grinned and I knew they'd been
told as well. she looked up to see Shayla coming our way.
"Beverly, we're not going to be doing a lot while we're her. if you and
the Kittens want to go shopping or to that Cougar Night Club at the Mall
go right ahead, we'll let you know if anything happens." She told Momma.
"Thank you," Momma hugged her then looked at us waiting.
I giggled as I hugged her then Priscilla hugged her.
"Would you like us to bring you anything back?" asked Momma.
"Oh if you would just drop this off at the Mill Stone as you go in the
front entrance to the mall." She handed a list to Momma. "They will
deliver it to us."
"Girls, I think you should wear your uniforms, let everyone know where
you're from," she giggled.
We got a lot of attention as we followed Momma on our leashes, her fanny
had a bit more of an excited wiggle than usual. I knew we were going to
be in for a long night of playing when we got back and that had my
clitty tingling already.
After dropping of Shayla's shopping list we didn't have far to go to
find the Kittens Parade. We just followed the sound of the music and
happy girls.
"Welcome to the Kitten's Parade," said an obvious Cougar at the door.
she was pretty as most Draconians were.
"Thank you," said Momma as she signed the guest book. "Kittens?" we
giggled and signed. Then curtseyed saying "Thank you Mistress."
"Oh, you're from Earth. How wonderful to have you here. I'm sure you
understand the Basic Rules from the 'Kitten's Den' Miss Beverly. If you
do not wish your kittens to take advantage of the lower age restrictions
here, just let the waitress know when she brings you your first round."
"Oh what is the Age restriction here?" asked Momma
"Thirteen, or until you say otherwise."
"Thank you, my kittens don't want another spanking I'm sure," giggled
Momma.
"Oh, oh my, I should have recognized you. Lady Correll is here with her
own Kitten," she waved to a passing waitress, who appeared to be an
older Kitten near college age.
"Yes Misssstress?" she dragged it out.
"Show Mistress Beverly to Lady Correll's table please."
"Right this way Misssstress, Kittens," she led off, her tail twitching
excitedly.
"Beverly, Kittens, what a wonderful surprise," began Saffrella. "Nina is
about to sing for us." She was hugging us and turned to the waitress,
"Bring us two Wild Cougars and two Sassy Kittens."
The waitress set the drinks down as a pretty Draconian Kitten pranced
out onto the stage.

"Fire, you called?" began Mother Fox as she slowly approached the patio
taking in the new Centaurs and their condition.
"Yes I need to get a message to Omega, to Mistress Sidestep," she said
and the five new arrivals gasped in shock.
"I need to let her know that they arrived here, and that Jarmon's Herd
is breaking the laws of our kind, forcing young Centaurs to take
Fembanna and then using them against their will even before the set
breeding age."
Fox took out her cell phone and made the call to the joint dispatch
office.
"Otter, we need to have someone on Omega get a message to the Spirit
Woman, Mistress Sidestep. Fire needs to speak to her urgently, you have
Fires number still?" "Yes thank you. How many where there?" "Yes by all
means. Have him relay the message." She turned back to Fire then.
"My brother inlaw met with her earlier today and sent a message that he
was supposed to meet with Sidestep and some others at dawn. He will call
here when they meet."
I looked at the time as the first rays of morning sun began to peek
above the trees. The breeze shifting direction as it always did in the
morning carrying the scents of the cooking fires from the nearby Centaur
Herd.
My kittens had fallen asleep and I roused them to go do their morning
chores. Tuti blushed and giggled as she trotted after Samantha, and I
knew by the way her tail was swishing that she wanted to stand for Demon
again.
Suddenly Tuti shot past her and reached out pulling her onto her back.
"Samantha," I called to her and Tuti turned around waiting as I caught
up to them. Reaching out I caressed her cheek, there was something about
the way she was acting that told me she was about to try something.
"Let Tuti help you," I said. "But not in front of your sisters." Seeing
her blush was all the confirmation I needed.
"I won't let her get hurt. He'll be gentle," promised Tuti. "He's been
waiting patiently for her."
I could see a much deeper bond forming between them and while I still
wanted to keep Samantha to myself, I knew that forbidding her to join
Demon and Tuti would only drive her away.
In the barns I busied myself taking extra time with helping Kiara do her
chores. We'd actually finished and were in the other barn getting things
ready for the new horses when she sat down on a bale of straw. Sensing a
much deeper conversation than we'd ever had before I waited until Hope
and Colene had left for the house.
Stepping into the stall I pulled the door closed behind me and sat down
next to her, waiting to let her begin.
"Why, why would you let her do what I know they're doing?"
"You think I should forbid her?" I asked.
"Yes, it hurts. It, it almost killed me," she said near tears.
Now pulling her into my arms I lay my head on top of hers as I spoke
gently. "It scares the hell out of me to Kitten. But it's her choice to
make. She isn't being forced into it the way you were. And I know that
you're young and don't really understand a lot yet, but there is a
difference between doing something by free choice and being forced
against your will."
Kiara had come a long way in adjusting to things, and beginning to
understand that she was not going to be forced to do anything. She'd
even begun to accept seeing inter-species relationships as real loving
bonds. And knowing her background it was understandable why she was
having trouble with this one.
"But she's your Kitten, she has to do what you tell her and if you told
her no then," I didn't let her finish.
"Kiara, Kitten, you are my Kitten too so I will ask you this, if I
wanted you to play with another Cougar that you didn't like, what would
you do?"
She looked at me confused.
"You would probably do it, and then run away the first chance you got,
am I wrong?" I asked. I could see it in her eyes, that was exactly what
she would do.
"In becoming my Kitten you promise to trust me in everything, trust that
I will never hurt or mistreat you. Never force you to do something truly
against your will." I lifted her eyes to mine. "If I forbade them, how
long do you think it would be before they disobeyed me? How long do you
think your sister would remain here with me?"
I could almost see her thoughts as they ran through her mind knowing the
bond between Cougar and Kitten.
"One of the most important things a Cougar has to know is that if they
force a Kitten to do something she is not ready for, or unwilling to do
on her own, it will cause them to lose that love, respect and Trust they
share."
"But you made me go to school," she said.
"And you hate me for it?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"N, no I, I resented it at first because I couldn't go with Samantha,"
she said. "But next year, next year I get to go to the Kitten Academy
right?"
"Yes if you choose to. And now you understand much better the value of a
good education, right?"
"Y, yes Momma," finally her tears began to flow.
I kissed her tears away, then took hold of her hand. "Come on we still
have a lot of cooking to do today." I could hear the sounds as we
hurried past the main barn. Then looked up to see Marissa and the
Kittenettes as they came to join the feast we were preparing for.
Looking around my sister asked, "Where's Samantha?"
Just then she came running from the barn with Tuti, the pair laughing
happily as they tossed their wet hair in the breeze. I had to smile
realizing they'd showered in the wash stall before coming to join
everyone.
"Kittens, you need to dry your hair, you don't want to get a cold." They
giggled, "Thank you Momma." and rushed into the house.
"So," asked Marissa. "Where are we setting up for the dinner?"
"Around back," I told her. "But I should warn you we have some new
unexpected guests. They arrived last night."
"Who are they?"
"Centaurs, like Marta," I answered.
Soon Vet and his group were there asking where to set up the tables as
more Centaurs and some of the Indians showed up to help.
"Everyone," I got their attention. "These are Delrina, Rosina, Codi,
Tianna and Keeli," I introduced them to everyone present so far. They
looked around at how friendly everyone was Mother's Fox, Rain and Night
Bird showed up brining gifts of coats and warmer clothing for them.
It was close to noon when Leaf arrived, Trout riding an Indian pony
beside her, but still holding her hand. Fire reached up and plucked a
few leaves from her hair. "I trust the herds are safe?"
"Yes Ma'am, not even the Wolves found anything to complain about," said
Trout who was one of the herd guards for the Cattle.
The pair wandered along the buffet tables adding tidbits to both their
personal pouches as well as plates. Some of the other centaurs and
tribes women were making a pack to take out to the other herd guards who
needed to stay with the herds.
Noni, Leaf's mother suddenly trotted up to the couple, a large pack
slung over her shoulder, tears filling her eyes.
Suddenly she kissed her daughters cheek, two other younger Centaurs,
Leafs younger sister and brother stood giggling.
"You will care for her? Make sure that she finishes her education?" she
asked.
Trout looked a bit frightened. "Yes of course I will," he answered in
confusion.
"Will you spank her when she is a naughty wife?" asked Noni. "Let her
follow her own customs and teach your children to honor both their
parents customs?"
"Y, yes of course I will," he was still confused as to what was
happening and I had to admit I was a bit confused as well.
Noni hung the pack from his pony's saddle horn as the other Centaur
women hung the packs of food.
"Then I trust she will not throw you off," said Noni as Leaf began to
blush.
"Fire, what is happening?" I asked curiously.
But it was Keeli who answered in awe. "It is the Centaur Human Marriage
ritual. He is to ride her among those of the herd who are gathered.
Where it reversed and he the Centaur, he would carry her on his back."
"Oh," then I suddenly remembered earlier this summer when I'd witnessed
another Centaur carrying a Brave on her back. Lightfoot, hadn't asked
first she just pulled Stone onto her back and took off happily. Then as
if called that happy couple joined the feast.
At some point neighbors and other friends joined in, and then someone
began playing music and then the dancing started.
We must have danced for hours before people started leaving for home, of
course others had already left as more had showed up.
Fire had taken the new arrivals to the Barn they had first used when we
arrived. There were still a few who lived there helping with the horses
and the cattle, until Vets crew and the other neighbors could help build
their houses.
Jade and Arina helped them get set up, and others brought more warm
clothing and blankets.
I think the celebration actually continued into Friday afternoon but
still the chores and homework got done. We introduced the new arrivals
to the wolves, so they would know not to hunt or harm them. Only Delrina
had seen a Shifter before, but all five were amazed as they slowly got
more comfortable around people.
Then we got a flash alert from the weather station. The first winter
storm of the season was on its way.
"Weather Alert!!!, All stations. Naturally Occurring Winter Storm
Advisory!!!" flashed across the monitors continuously for almost twenty
full minutes before more information was given.
"Expect day time temperatures to begin dropping by ten degrees per day.
Expected Day time temperature by Tellday, 26 degrees, winds from the
north west, gusting to 30 knots, Snow accumulation starting on Wednesday
expected to reach 37 centimeters by Friday, and continuing through the
weekend."
"That doesn't sound so bad," I said. "26 degrees isn't that far below
32."
"Momma, that's Galactic, not Fahrenheit," pointed out Kiara. "Galactic
is 32 degrees colder than Fahrenheit, we learned about it in Science
class."
"We have to start getting the livestock in, and the Centaurs, they don't
all have houses yet," pointed out Samantha.
I picked up my phone. "Fire, have you seen the weather forecast?"
"Yes we are going to bring in our livestock. They'll help provide heat
for the homes and for those who haven't gotten them built yet," she told
me, there were still quite a few who had only half finished houses. They
were still living in the tents they'd set up once they chose the
location for their community.
"Fire, I know that your women have their pride, but I would feel better
if, if those who don't have finished houses yet would come to the
barns," I told her.
"But Erika, those barns are for your horses." She said.
"Please promise me that if it gets bad you will bring them all in to the
barns. Your livestock too." I pleaded.
"We've weathered worse than this with less shelter. We'll be fine, but I
will send you the yearlings up to the preteens. They can help you care
for your stock," she told me.
I had another call coming in and looked to see it was from Red Wolf.
"Miss Erika, the tribes are sending you some of our extra hay to share
since you have a lot of our livestock still on that side of the freeway
with your own and the Centaurs herds. Could you let Fire know we're
sending them some as well, that way we don't have to worry about trying
to separate out everyone's stock."
"Red Wolf, I heard, and thank you, we'll shelter any of your herd guards
who want to stay and help out," Fire said as I cut her into the
conversation.
"Fire, we have more than enough room to shelter those of your Herd who
don't have adequate housing yet."
"Wolf, why do you make this offer?" she asked now near tears.
"We're Neighbors, Friends and Family here. If you suffer then we suffer,
it's the way of our people. We take care of each other."

At the Kitten Academy they were quickly jumping into action, Sending
messages out to the Cougars who had taken their kittens off planet for
the long weekend.

"Shayla," Rock got her attention. "We're getting a weather warning from
Iridani Five."
Shayla looked over the warning, her heart falling. Thirty Six
Centimeters was a lot of snow.
"Road Runner, raise Brightfeather's on Iridani. We need more information
on this storm," she directed the truck.
"Shayla, are you still on Omega?" asked Paula.
"Yes we had a delay in getting our Safety Certifications. But I was
calling about the storm. We aren't scheduled to shoot the portal until
Tuesday, that'll put us smack in the middle of it," Shayla told her
cousin.
"Excuse me Paula," interrupted Mother Fox as she stepped in front of the
view screen. The other two tribal Spirit women were with her.
"Mother Fox, you have advice for us?" asked Shayla.
"Stay where you are for now. We three have a bad feeling about this
storm. Rain has been getting visions of snow deeper than she is tall,"
came the warning.
"Even the herds are seeking deeper canyons," added Night Bird. "Stay
safe until we know what this storm is going to do."
"Yes Mother Night Bird, thank you," she felt her heart sinking. She'd
wanted to hurry and reach Iridani, then go on to Lyconia.
Seeing the dire look on Shayla's face Beverly asked, "What's wrong?"
"Big storm brewing on Iridani, it'll hit before we get there. and the
Spirit women think it is going to be bigger than the weather people say.
They want us to wait it out here."
Their eyes fell on Shyhorse and Jake sitting at their usual table.
"Afternoon Ladies, I gather you got the weather report," said Jake.
"Yes, but I thought they had Blowers on Iridani," Shayla started saying.
"They do, or at least the blowers are there but most of the trucks that
push them are off world at the moment," explained Jake.
"How are we going to get from the portal into town?"
"Rose and May are there, and they're getting ready to head this way to
meet up with us. But also Tomahawk Towing and Recovery has six trucks
there that have their own blowers. But they need time to teach three of
the drivers. I don't think the Terrellians have ever pushed a blower
before. Of course I bet theirs are actually bigger considering the size
of their trucks."
"What does your Mother say Sophie?" they asked her as she entered with
her Adoptive parents.
"She says they've toyed with and controlled the weather too long, that
the weather is going to get worse before it gets better. And they have
no idea how to predict what is going to happen with this storm.

Already the plows of both Wyoming and Ute trucking were making their way
along the roads and side roads setting up the Candy stripe poles to mark
the edges of the roads.
I looked up curious now as three trucks pulled slowly into my little
homestead. To loaded down with big round bales of hay, the third I
recognized as a grain trailer as it backed up to the grain silo. Soon
two young Braves hopped onto my big tractors and began unloading the hay
into neat rows between the buildings. When the trucks had left two more
arrived and they asked if they could take one of the tractors to the
Centaur village. I told them to take them both so they could get the
trucks unloaded quicker.
Then two of the drivers began running different colored ropes from the
houses to the barns using the central shed over the well as a center
point.
"What's all this for?" I asked in confusion.
"If the snow gets to deep, or you have to go outside when its blowing
too heavy to see, you just follow the ropes so you don't get lost. It
might get deep enough that you need to dig tunnels though," explained
Red Wolf. "We're setting up the same system for the centaurs and your
sisters Shelter. That red one there in the middle stretches all the way
between your three groups in case you have to go to one place or the
other."
"Thanks, I never would have thought about that," I told him honestly.
The first flakes were beginning to fall heavily, and I realized it was
four days earlier than the weather station had predicted. Then
temperature started dropping quickly.

We got chores done and settled in for the night, sitting around large
central fireplace. Watching the snow as it began to build up outside.
They weren't kidding when they said it was going to get deep.
Our new guests had come to the house, and I decided it was time to begin
a tradition. I knew that chocolate was a real treat for centaurs, and I
always had plenty on hand for the little ones who liked to come and help
out.
Carrying a bag of marsh mallows a box of Graham crackers and several
chocolate bars I began passing out the little roasting sticks.
My girls giggled as they started showing the Centaurs how to roast marsh
mallows to make Smore's. Then we heard the sounds of a vehicle outside
bogging down in the heavy snow.
"Who in their right mind would be out driving around in this?" asked
Hope as everyone followed me toward the front door.
It was huge and had bright lights on inside, looking like an oversized
greenhouse. They'd slid to a stop almost running into the guide ropes
before stopping.
"Momma it Midge's parents," said Kiara. She was pulling on her coat and
boots.
"Oh, I think they are looking for us," said Delrina. "They gave us a
ride to get here. And promised to give us a ride before they left if we
weren't welcomed."
I pulled on my coat and trudged out to the front door of the huge
transport. The door opened as I got there and I stepped inside.
"Hi, I'm Erika Tyler," I held out my hand.
"Elsa, Bounder's Mother. I've heard a lot about your horses. And our
girls tell us you know where we can find the Centaurs," she said.
Just then Delrina and Tuti trotted out to the door, and it was opened by
one of the men just as they got to it.
"Del, you're here," they hugged. "Who is this with you?" Elsa hugged
Tuti.
"I'm Tuti, My Mother is Fire, the spirit woman," she explained.
Jet, and Hob the two men were busy helping Teasya, Faye and Roe, the
other three adult women pull heavy covers up the sides and lock them in
place over the interior of the huge windows.
"We have to insulate the windows, the plants can't tolerate much cold,"
explained Elsa.
"Elsa, we're stuck. The snows too deep, Orchid can't get any traction,"
said Hob the first husband. he had a grim look on his face.
We can call one of the wreckers they can help you get back into town," I
offered. "Or you can stay here, we can get one of the tractors and help
you get it inside one of the barns to help preserve the heat."
"They can come into the barn we're using," offered Delrina. "I doubt a
Wrecker could make it out here before the plants get too cold."
By now Vet and a few others had come to join us.
"Vet, I hate to ask this but," I began.
"I'll get a tractor and we'll get them in the second barn with Delrina
and the others. The wreckers are kind of tied up trying to clear some of
the roads between the portals."
In the end it took not just the tractor, but several Centaurs bundled
against the cold pulling and pushing to get the big Transport/Habitat
into the barn.
People were braving the weather to bring them food and warmer clothing.
And then my phone rang just before I left to return to the house.
"Hello," I answered.
"Miss Tyler, this is Malissa Pierce. I was wondering if the Orchid made
it out to your place."
"Oh yes they're here now, but I'm afraid they're stuck until the roads
can be cleared. We got her into one of the barns so they'll be safe," I
answered.
"That's good. I can reassure three young ladies that they're not going
to lose the plants and have to start all over again," she said. "It
isn't fit for man nor beast to be out in this storm."
"I hope it's alright if I keep Kiara home until the roads are cleared,"
I said.
"Actually that was the other reason I called, to tell you that we are
going to be having our first round of Snow Days. The other two academies
are cancelling classes as well and starting to notify Parents and
Cougars of the fact. We are broadcasting it over the planetary network,"
she told me.
"I wish there was a way for Shorty, Midge and Bounder to come out and
spend the time with their family," I commented.
"Yes I do too, we'll see if this lets up soon. We might be able to get
them out there. how deep is it there?" she asked.
"We've got a good foot and a half already," I answered.
"Oh, well you're doing better than the schools are. it's already
hitting the three foot markers here in places. But I think most of it is
snow drifts. But at least the snow is clean here," she giggled. "I'm
going to have the kitchens make snow ice cream for the girls."
