Chapter 5
Vengeance is born!
MCO observation room Lab E
Dr. Hilber was looking the humiliated mutant that was crying, tears ran
down the mutants cheeks and he enjoyed the pain he was causing to that
freak.
The readings suddenly went wild and one of the assistant asked "What is
that?"
Dr. Hilber looked at the readings, the essence Subject 142 gathered
started to rise again, this time the scale they used to measure the amount
of essence gathering was just going nuts, the needle fluctuated wildly
then rocketed up and stayed there. He looked at the mutant that was
starting to glow, this time not only the eyes but the complete mutant.
Feathers started to form on the bones protruding the back of the mutant,
quickly growing in size and density. They weren't white like before, they
were gray and turned black at the like they we're covered in ash.
The mutant started to move ripping the metal straps that had its right
hand bound to the side of the cage. "Activate the electrical chains." He
said, and looked how sparks of energy were covering the mutant in the
cage, the wings shortly started to catch fire, but they didn't burn they
just turned even darker in color, the subject ripped it's second hand free
and then moved it's hands to the neck where she ripped of the restraint
that had held it's head in place. Ripping off the probes that were still
in it's mouth and nose, then it looked in his eyes. It's eyes weren't
glowing in the blue bright color he had seen before they were completely
black. It started saying something, while standing up and ripping of the
probe out of it's back and the restraints on it's legs. "Ashes to ashes,
dust to dust. You human's have to learn the lord might be forgiving, but I
am not."
down in the lab
Breaking out off my prison and spawning my sword in the hand, that glowed
in a dark purple mist forming around the blades edge. Cutting through the
cage in ease before I slowly got out of it, I started to walk towards the
door that lead to the observation room of the lab. The metal door looked
sturdy but I kicked against it crushing the door out of its holdings and
the security guard behind the door, I hadn't been aware of prior, ended as
a red fountain of blood that spilled in every direction.
I slowly went up the staircase entering the room several people were
sitting in. "If anyone has any prayers left do them now, may the lord
forgive you your sins. Amen!" I cut down the first guy that tried to run
past me. Dr. Hilber started to wet his pants.
I moved closer to him, "Demons do not cry. Are these the tears of a long
dead child?" I questioned him. He looked at me unable to move and I
grabbed him by his neck and started to slowly press it till it splattered
like a ripe melon. I dropped the the heretic on the floor and looked at
the other guys in the lab.
MCO briefing room
Prescott Arizona
Olsen was in the briefing room when the alarm went off, the electronic
alarm system started to call. "Section break, area 3 holding cells Lab E.
A dangerous mutant has escaped, all personnel evacuate."
Olsen looked at Baxter, "Evacuation? What mutant is still alive that would
force us to evacuate?"
Baxter looked back, "The only one that is still alive and whose powers are
unknown is Jacob."
"Jacob? He wouldn't hurt a fly I thought he was still waiting for his
clarification and MID."
Baxter moved towards the weapon locker and opened it with his master key.
"You haven't heard? He killed that asshole Jenkins."
Olsen hadn't heard, but that explained why they handed him as a threat.
"Jenkins? Can't say that was a loss for us."
"You might be right but for the higher ups a mutant who has killed has
forfeited his chance to live."
The computer voice called out again. "The threat has just broke through
the shutter doors and is now moving into the cell area this isn't a
training all staff has to evacuate."
MCO Cell area 3 Lab E
Trying to break through the the fire door, I realized it was to thick and
even though my punches made dents into it at the end I was forced to cut
my way through it. I turned to the left where I knew the cell blocks were
holding the other mutants. A few guards gathered and tried to take me on,
that was their doom. I thought for a moment about letting the other
mutants stay in prison but I knew it was wrong for them to be held captive
by those mad man of the MCO.
I punched through the first cell door I was passing and opened it. The
mutant inside looked like a regular human. "I'm getting out of here, if
you can't defend yourself wait till I cleared the area before your take
your chance and run."
Then I moved to the next door and did the same. The mutant inside was held
in a similar cage that I had been stuck in. I moved closer and tore the
cage apart. "Time for your vengeance?" He nodded "Count me in." Then he
rushed off easily at 100 mph, I followed him out of the room and went to
the next cell the mutant in it had been killed, and the rest of the cells
turned out uninhabited.
I knew what that meant, the prisons should have hold 13 prisoners at the
time which meant the lab coat wearers had taken care of them. I spread my
wings and charged through the hallway, a few seconds later I passed the
running speedster and rushed of towards mission command. I used my wings
to stop catching the air with them to slow down and landed on my feet
tearing up the floor tiles from the impact of my landing.
A group of soldier had gathered in front of the locked down fire shutter.
They were holding all kind of weapons at me, I covered my body behind my
wings and started to move towards them. The shots of them just bounced off
my black colored wings, when I was between the soldiers I ended them
quickly, they had just been lead into the wrong direction by those mad men
that were passing on their wrong teachings.
MCO Mission Command
A few minutes later
A rumbling sound echoed through Mission Command as a huge dent formed in
the fire shutter. Olsen gulped, a few seconds later a second rumbling
sound and a second dent formed in the thick steel frame. The weapon fire
had ceased a few seconds ago and now whoever was standing in front of the
fire shutter was punching through it and from the looks of it, the fire
shutter wasn't meant to withstand such powerful blows.
Another rumbling sound, and parts of the fire shutter flew through the
room. Then the metal started to creak as it was slowly pulled open, then
with a loud rumbling sound the metal broke and the fire shutter ripped out
of the wall fell on the floor covering the room in a huge wave of dust.
Olsen shielded his eyes from the dust and debris, when he opened them
again and looked at the entrance, in the smoke he could see a form shaping
itself out of the shadows a human body probably female that hat wings that
were spread out and nearly touched the sides of the room at least 30 feet
in wingspan. He gulped again trying to get some fluid into his throat that
suddenly felt dry.
When the smoke finally dissipating to the ground he could see his former
partner Jacob Goodwill. Jacobs new form was impressive he must have been
5'8" to 5'9" in height grown about two inches, but he looked like a 15
year old girl. His or now her face was heart shaped and black hair was
covering her face falling down straight to her shoulders, her eyes were
almond-shaped and her eyebrows looked like they had just been plucked.
With her high cheekbones and her small nose just a little bit upturned her
lips full and colored dark red her face would make every top model getting
mad from envy,
He never thought he would get a boner from looking at a woman's face but
he did. Her wings easily 30 feet in wingspan were colored in black looking
like the feathers of a raven, her chest was probably an C-Cup and her
waist was small and really showed her sexy hips. The legs still looked a
little bit of place but she was still changing. Then he noticed the sword
in her hand it was probably 45 inches long or so it had a regular cross
hilt with a purple amethyst in its mid, on the blade's edge runes were
glancing in purple light that emitted a mist colored purple by the runes
light.
"What are you?" Baxter gasped.
MCO Mission Command
at the same moment
What I am? "At least I'm not a traitor. I'll bring justice to this place,
freeing it from the sins. I'll bring in a good word for you when the
judgement day comes, now rest in peace." I answered Baxter's question I
didn't know where this words came from they just felt right.
I threw my sword cutting Baxter in half the burning pieces of him falling
on the floor, then I slowly turned towards Olsen.
"You!" I said jumping to him and putting my finger on his chest using my
wings to stop him from running from me, "How could you!"
He looked pale "Jacob? What are you talking about why are you killing
everyone?"
I grabbed him with my right hand and lifted him from the ground, "You
betrayed me, you told them you arrested me? I called you to help me."
Tears started to form in my eyes.
"I didn't" he said right before I broke his neck. Then if dropped on my
knees and started to cry.
I was still kneeling on the floor and cried when the speedster and the
other mutant entered the room, the speedster was next to me in a second.
"Hey are you alright?" he asked me while he hugged me.
I nodded, I wasn't alright, I had let my emotions take control over me,
let it dim my mind and killed a dozen people or more. I had done a sin and
the only way to free myself was atonement afford or the purification by a
priest.
Standing up, "No I'm not alright but I will have to live with it for the
rest of my life, let's get out of this hell hole." I walked over to the
cam controls and deleted the video footage of our escape. Then we headed
to the elevator and I cut through the ceiling. Jumping up I punched the
elevators door out of their holdings, then I let myself fall down and
helped the other two mutants to escape this madness.
From the underground parking lot we entered the sewer tunnels that had and
followed them till we reached the city's outskirts. I wished them both the
best for their future and told them to stay out of trouble. Then I jumped
into the air and flew back to the town. I realized my sight was splendid I
could read the wristwatch of a person a few hundred feet below me that was
just crossing a road, and realized that my father was holding the evening
service. I thought about waiting until he finished but something told me
that was a bad idea so I circled around the church and landed in front of
it.
Prescott First Lutheran Church
The reverend father had just started the incantation of another prayer,
and everyone in the church was kneeling on the foot stools, when the door
of the church opened with a loud bang. An unusual heavy wind blew through
the church and the candle lights started to flicker in it. She looked over
her shoulder, and saw her or him. The Flickering light cast gigantic
shadows of her on the back of the church.
The girl that entered the church, had black hair that fell in locks around
her heart shaped face. She did the Lord's prayer after tipping her hand in
the blessed water at the church's entry. She was tall for a girl easily
5'8" or 5'9" in height, what however threw the complete picture off was
that the girl was naked. If it weren't for the giant wings on her back
that looked like they were covered in ash. She would never have realized
who it was.
She started to spread her wings while she was walking through the church
as is she was embracing something in it. While she was walking along the
church's middle hallway her wings probably 30 feet in their span started
to loose feathers and her black hair slowly started to change their color
from the completely black hair into a brown color. The Angel that's what
she looked like knelt in front of the altar, praying silently and more of
the ash colored feathers started to fall from her wings leaving small
white feathers back as the big ashen colored once fell.
Her straight hair started to get locks that turned brighter until they
were blond, as she stood up and approached the statue of Jesus Christ, "It
can't be him?" she said "Jacob?" The Angel no it wasn't the Angel she knew
it was him, Jacob moved kissed the statue of Jesus Christ on the feet
before he collapsed on the ground.
Around the same time
Dropping down on my knees, the warm feeling the church was surrounding me
with was too much after all that had happened, it was just too much for me
after today. It was working like a muscle relaxant, I kissed the lord's
sons feet and fell down, father looked at me his eyes wide open, "Help me
father." I whispered.
Seconds later
The church's crowd got loud and Ann stood up to rush over to her brother,
the reverend her father was already standing next to the fallen Angel and
looked down on her. "Father is he?"
He shook his head, "He is alright, just asleep."
Thank God. She thought, while moving closer. She knelt down next to the
angel and now she was sure it was her brother, the face looked a lot more
like a girl than she had remembered, but the resemblance with her brothers
face a week ago was clearly visible. The wings were fully covered in small
white feathers, and as she touched them while she was moving her brother
head on her lap she was surprised how smooth and fluffy they felt. Her
father the reverend went back to the altar and started to talk to the
crowd that had gathered to get a glimpse at the angel.
"You all have seen what just happened!" he began, "A cherub a seraph is
walking among us." he gestured at Jacob, "I know what many of you are
thinking, it must be a mutant." he stopped giving the people time to
agree. "But you have seen what has happened to her when she walked through
the church, as god's presence at this holy place helped this lost child of
his."
One guy was holding up his phone, "It is in the news, several mutants has
escaped from the local MCO building."
The reverend nodded, he already had realized what must have happened when
Jacob suddenly went into the church. "Yes one of this mutants is now here,
but look at her. She might be touched by the lord, can we risk it that she
gets killed by the MCO just because we are afraid of mutants?"
Several people stated that they couldn't risk that.
The reverend nodded. "I thought so too, we need to make sure that she is
touched by the lord, if she is we can't turn her request for help down."
"The reverend is right!" Someone in the crowd said. "We can't risk it, we
might draw the wrath of the lord if we denied her our help."
"Yes" the crowd started to get back to the seeds. Several people went
towards the parking lot and when someone asked where they were heading,
they replied. "We are going to get our guns, who knows what the MCO is
going to do if they show up."
A while later
Prescott First Lutheran Church
I didn't know how long I had been asleep but when I was waking up the
church was still full or from the look of it, it was full again. I noticed
several man holding weapons that checked the outside as if they were
expecting trouble. Someone must have placed me on the altar, which for my
comfort had been covered with several clothes. I was wearing one of the
acolyte's robes to cover my body.
My father was walking around in the church and answered many questions the
people were asking him. I moved my head and noticed my sister Ann standing
next to me. I smiled at her, and she smiled back. I slowly set myself up
noticing how hungry I felt I moved down from the altar and she helped me
not to fall on the ground, my legs were shaking. I slowly walked behind
the altar, I was hungry and really needed to eat. Placing my hand of the
cold stone. The church went completely silent when they noticed that I was
up.
"Our Father in heaven," "Our Father in heaven," the crowd started to
follow my incantation
"hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom the power, and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen."
"Amen!" the community followed my lead.
I picked up the loaf of bread that was on the altar and started to share
it with the people in the church. They looked in awe at me while I was
given them the bread, I realized it was probably because the loaf in my
hand didn't seem to end. Every time I broke something off the loaf was
still complete. I couldn't explain to myself how that was possible or how
I even knew what I just did.
When everyone had a share and I started to eat, the people did too. Their
expression showed clearly that they were surprised by the taste. Someone
in the crowd had started to call it a miracle, and the crowd got really
excited now. My father moved closer to me and asked me if I was alright, I
shook my head, I wasn't alright at all. I excused myself for disturbing
his evenings service, and he laughed at that. He told me he was glad I was
okay and asked me if I needed anything. I explained to him that I would
like to talk with him about something once the crowd had left and he
agreed that this was probably for the best.
I sat myself in the front row of the church's pews. Then someone sat
himself next to me and hugged me, I looked at the young women, my sister
Ann.
"How are you Jacob?" She asked me.
"Better now, the church is really soothing, and escaping those vile
monsters at the MCO" I shuddered and she hugged me even stronger. "I have
sinned today." I admitted and tears started to form in my eyes.
My sister used her index finger to clean up the tears that were running
down my cheeks, "What have they done to you?" She asked without expecting
an answer. "When you escaped how did it turn out?"
"I killed a lot of people there, I even killed Olsen." I couldn't hold
back any longer and my whole body was shaking while I sobbed.
Father somehow managed to calm the crowd and they started to leave on by
one only a few requested to stay there and make sure nobody would try to
attack me at the church. Father knew better than to argue with them, He
told them that they would find some rugs in the vestry that they could use
to sleep, and keep them warm. Then he came back to me and my sister and
sat down on the other side of me.
Before he could say anything I asked him to take my confession. He looked
surprised at me than he nodded and told me to move in the confessional, I
did and a few minutes later he moved in his seat. He proceeded with the
ritual of confession and then told me that I should start.
I explained him everything how, how I was exposed to the chemical, the
guilt I somehow felt for losing people's life during the mission, how I
started to notice the changes but didn't thought about anything while I
should have known that the strange feeling I had in the church could only
mean one thing.
How I then went to the MCO after father and sister had been talking with
me. How the MCO was friendly until I felt like starving, how they started
to treat me worse and I killed the guy called Jenkins.
Then how they drugged me and cut off my wings while I was conscious, and
then how they tried to put the DFA on me while holding me in cage, how
they tried to change the facts to frame me. And how someone had managed to
stop them from achieving their goal. Then how they started to experiment
on me with the guns, and how they started to explore my body using the
mechanical probing machine.
How I gathered the strength and started to slaughter them, freeing the two
mutant that were being held captive their, before slaughtering the rest,
then when I mentioned Olsen and how scared and confused he had looked I
admitted that I might have killed someone innocent.
Father asked me several questions, and then he told me that I would have
to pray a lot to atone for my sin of killing a innocent person, then he
finished the confession with saying god forgives me, and the relief I felt
was more then only my mind being at ease it was my very being that felt a
surge of energy dwelling inside of me and washing away anything that
bothered me.
When I walked out of the confessional I felt a lot better. I hadn't
realized how much influence the sins had have over my feelings. Before I
had went to the confessing my mind had been filled with fighting and
revenge, now I was thinking a lot more rational. I needed to find out what
I had turned into and to learn that I would have to ask my father for his
help.
If anyone had a idea what kind of spirit I had picked up due to the relic,
it must be the Vatican. Then I would need a new name, it was something I
hadn't spend a second thought about until now, but Jacob wouldn't work any
longer. My sister was still sitting on the benches and I walked over to
her.
"Hey how are you feeling ... Jacob?" she asked me.
So she had realized too that the name wasn't fitting. "I fell a lot better
now, but I need to figure out a few things I don't know yet."
"If you're looking for a place to stay, you're welcome to come over to my
house." she offered me.
I had to laugh out loud. "And meeting your husband the head of the H1
looking like this? I don't think that is a good idea."
"Oh yeah you don't know, I kicked that asshole out." she said.
"You did what?" I asked surprised, I couldn't believe what I had just
heard.
"Yes I kicked him out, he went all nuts on me when I told him what had
happened to you, calling me and the family a spawn of evil. You know
spreading all this anti mutant talk he does. Now he can look if anyone
wants a worker that spends all his time on demonstration and never getting
anything done he is told."
"You kicked him out because of me?" I wasn't sure if I should be glad she
defended me, or if I should hate myself for destroying my sister marriage.
"Hey stop that, it's not your fault, it's his for being such a jerk."
"Sorry sis it's just, I kinda feel guilty for bringing this upon you, but
yeah I would like to stay at your place for a while, at least until I can
get a flight to Rome."
"What do you want in Rome?" she asked me.
"Figuring out what happened to me. I knew a little bit that I have learned
from the MCO testing, I am a mutant that has picked up a spirit, they call
that Avatar. But from my knowledge an Avatar is able to communicate with
the spirit he is in touch with, yet I can't do anything like that, and I
really want to know why is that. Of course there could be another reason
for the changes I'm going through but, I can't imagine that this is the
case, it all started after I picked up the relic."
She stood up and pulled on my arm to follow her, "Which relic did this to
you?" she asked me while she lead me towards the altar. I looked at the
various relics that had been locked in the small relic treasury's embedded
in the altar.
"I think it was this one."
Sister bowed down to take a better look at the relic, "Okay wait a
second." she rushed off into the vestry and came back with a key for the
treasury. She opened the treasury and carefully took the relic out of it,
holding it in her hand starting to examine it closely. "What a pity I
can't read what's written on it, it's in Cyrillic."
I looked at it but couldn't read it either, the small piece of bone that
was visible through the relics window however looked familiar, I had seen
it or a bone exactly like that before. "We could ask father maybe he has a
idea."
My sister nodded, "Good idea."
It turned out he didn't knew either, but when I told him that I would like
to get in contact with the Vatican to figure out what I was becoming, he
had a big smile and told us he knew exactly who he had to call for that.
Father went into the vestry and started to call someone while me and Ann
waited for him.
"So do you have any idea what we should call you now?" My sister wanted to
know from me.
"No I haven't thought about that, Jacob isn't going to work anymore is
it?"
"No I don't think that would work in public, and we also need to make sure
you have a legal guardian, nobody is going to believe you're adult the way
you look."
"What are you talking about a guardian the way I look, I turned into a
girl not a minor!" I gawked.
"Uhh Jacob how long is it since you have looked into a mirror?"
"I don't know I think before I left the MCO so about a few hours ago."
"Well you have mentioned, that you had a bad time. Maybe you didn't pay
attention to some minor details."
"Well yeah I noticed that I'm turning into a girl I even feel the ongoing
changes a tingling in my hips that starts to work its way into my legs at
the moment."
"Hmm it is probably for the best if I give you my mirror to check your
face. But please don't start screaming okay?"
Screaming why would I start screaming, from what she said earlier and the
changes I notices I knew I was a girl, and from what she told me I didn't
look like an adult, but how young could I possible look I was 23 years
old, even a girl in this age should at least look around 19. "I promise."
She handed me her hand mirror and I opened it. I looked at the small
mirror, a girl probably 14 maybe 15 years old stared back at me, her Jaw
was open and her eyes opened in shock. It wasn't me imagining things when
I had been humiliated by the MCO. I really looked like a little girl.
That was me, a teenager, a little girl the former 23 year old me didn't
exist anymore. I gulped. Tears started to form in my eyes, I closed the
mirror and started to clasp on myself, the small mirror fell out of my
hand and my wings moved around me forming a cocoon like shell that
protected me from the world outside.
I had promised my sister I wouldn't scream and I didn't, I hadn't however
promised not to cry. Tears were rolling down my cheeks and I sobbed so
hard I had trouble to breath. My sister tried to calm me but the wings
covering me, and my new found physical strength stopped all her tries to
reach me. After a while however her constant tries to comfort reached me
and I opened my wings.
My sister immediately rushed to me and hugged me, and I embraced her
comforting hug. The moment she could finally reach me she called out "Shhh
my little girl everything is okay." and I was really thinking about
pushing her out again, but something in me didn't mind her calling me her
little girl she was my big sister after all.
