It started with a skirt. Part 3
Rita smiled. "Now that we have two women in this household it's time
you did your share of the women's work or "housework" as we women call
it, Bea. Let me show you how to use an iron."
I was going to object that it was women's work as I looked myself in the
mirror, realised how I was dressed again and looked heavenward. It
wasn't exactly that I had forgotten I was dressed as a woman but more
that I was still thinking like a man. But I looked so unlike myself
that I thought if she were to film me on her phone I might be able to
pretend I am not Bea, the woman on the screen, if I don't look or sound
like Beau.
"Yes, Rita," I replied trying to sound feminine and submissive.
"Here, put these on," Rita said, passing me a pair of stilettos with a 5
inch heel.
I realised they went with my outfit and slipped them on.
I stood up, wobbling a bit in the heels I was now wearing, straightened
my skirt and followed Rita to the pile of washing in the living room.
I couldn't pretend not to have mastered the iron for long and I was soon
working my way through the pile of clothes "just like a real woman" Rita
said photographing me.
By the time I had finished my calf muscles felt like they were going to
explode from having had to stand in heels for so long. I wanted to sit
down but Rita had other ideas and I was soon helping her prepare our
dinner in the kitchen wearing a white apron around my waist so I looked
like a French Maid. I tried to object but Rita was also dressed the
same way and I liked looking at her dressed as a French Maid and she
said it was quid pro quo.
At last I finally got to sit down and I realised why housework was so
exhausting. I was relieved when Rita said she would do the washing up
and empty the bins although slightly conscious that that was normally my
role. I seemed to be being groomed to be the woman of the house.
Normally we tended to watch sport or action films on tv but I soon fell
asleep on the sofa watching a coming of age melodrama. Whilst I slept I
dreamt I was alone at Rita's Pilates studio wearing nothing but a black
burqa and a red bikini but suddenly I heard voices approaching the room
and thought:
"Oh no! What if someone sees me dressed like this! Quick hide!"
And then I heard a voice say "Wake up, Bea! Come on sleepy head!"
I realised it was Rita's voice but it took her to stroke my face before
I actually woke up and realised the words I heard in my dream were Rita
waking me up.
I realised it was daylight.
Rita was wearing Yoga pants and a crop top. She was also wearing pink
trainers. "It's time for Pilates and you said you would come."
I sat up, realised I was still dressed as a rock chick, said, "Oh that's
a relief!" as I looked down at myself because I wasn't wearing a burqa
and bikini and at least looked almost conservatively dressed by
comparison.
"What? You're relieved to be dressed as a woman? I was going to offer
you the chance to go to Pilates in your Male clothes but as you sound
like you prefer to be dressed as a woman here's a pair of yoga pants and
a crop top. It's probably just as well, we wouldn't have had time to
remove your makeup, let alone your breastforms!"
A dialogue between the Male and Female parts of my brain began. I will
call the Male voice Beau and the Female voice Bea. Their thoughts are
in speech marks, my own are not:
"Why didn't I say anything? Well I didn't want to tell Rita about my
dream, it might give her ideas," Beau said.
"Wearing a crop top and yoga pants was preferable to a burqa and a
bikini," Bea replied.
I like how I look in my Pilates outfit with my ponytail.
"You really should get your ears pierced Bea," Rita said looking at me
admiring myself in the mirror and interrupting the conversation between
Beau and Bea.
"How would I carry that off? Blokes didn't have pierced ears did they?"
Beau said, sounding panicky.
"But it would go so well with my ponytail!" Bea said, imploring Beau "Be
reasonable."
Beau was about to agree, "Shit what was going on! I was starting to
think like a woman!" starting to really panic. "The ponytail isn't your
real hair, it is a hair extension," Beau said to Bea. "You were a man."
"Yes, that's right, you were a man but I am a woman now and women wear
hair extensions. Men wear toupees. Am I wearing a toupee? No, Missy,
so stop having a hissy fit and accept myself for who I am!"
I noticed how Bea was more aggressive than Beau and had used the third
person and the past participle to put distance between herself and me
and I realised I needed to be strong now. Bea was right. I needed to
accept I was a woman now.
And we were about to go to a "Women only" Pilates lesson. They did
mixed lessons later in the day.
