The drive from the mall to the salon was something of a change of
momentum. After talking with Diane, mom sort of grilled me about my
relationship with David, and about whether I knew that he was purposely
encouraging me, maybe even using hypnotic suggestions, to come out as a
girl. The encounter brought out a lot of emotion in me, and I nearly
cried as I tried to explain that, yes, I knew David was encouraging me,
but that I didn't think he was doing it to take advantage of me.
"David's my best friend, mom," I said almost tearfully, "if you and dad
can see that I need to transition, why shouldn't he?"
I guess mom got the logic of this, cuz she didn't say anything more
about it, and when we got to the salon, she returned to full planning
mode, and getting me ready for the party, or for my "date," as she put
it.
"I have you scheduled for a full makeover, Dani," mom said as we got out
of the car. "Karen will be doing your hair and makeup, and she has
arranged for a nail tech to get your fingers and toes."
I smiled, starting to feel excited again.
Mom stopped before we went in the door to the shop. "Dani," she said,
"you are my child, and I love you. Your dad and I both love you, and we
are with you 100% on whatever you need to be happy, and healthy. You've
got to allow that I want to make sure you're safe, and not hurt. Okay?"
"Sure mom," I said, "I understand. And I love you too, mom."
We hugged, then went inside.
Karen was exuberant. She was playing party music, kind of loud, in the
salon, and she greeted me and mom eagerly. "We're going to have fun
today," Karen said, "I've been studying Claudia Schiffer pictures, and
I've got some great ideas for you, Dani."
Karen leafed through a couple of fashion magazines, showing me and mom
Claudia pictures she had bookmarked.
Mom looked at the pictures but said, "It's up to you girls which look
you pick. Just remember, Karen, that Dani is my teenage daughter."
Karen went through the various pictures, highlighting the distinct
cosmetic characteristics of each. There was Claudia gloss base, and
with a pale flat base. Claudia with smokey eyes, bright blue shadow,
and with dark liner. Karen wanted me to pick, so I went with a light,
creamy foundation, with streaks of rouge cheek accent, and black
eyeliner.
"Great choices," Karen said, studying my face. "I'll need to shape your
lips, too."
With that, we were off to the chair, and Karen went to work on me. I
was amazed at the effort and care she put into making me look just
right. It was exciting beyond words seeing my face develope in the
mirror. The end result was stunning; I couldn't stop staring at my
reflection. Karen topped it off with a few stylish brushstrokes and
whiffs of spray to my hair.
"Walla!" Karen said, stepping back to admire her work. Mom came over
and was obviously impressed.
After that, a girl names Suzi made all my nails, fingers and toes,
bright glowing red.
I stood up, slipped on my heels, and stood to pose in front of the
mirrors. I was absolutely in love with the way I looked.
Mom and Karen were impressed, too, and the three of us spent several
minutes admiring and praising this fabulous new girl that I was.
Before we left, Karen had a few words of encouragement and advice for
me.
"Dani, you are so attractive and naturally feminine. It was easy and
fun for me to party up your look. Dani, two things I have to tell you:
men, most men you meet, are going to go wow, wow over you. GIrls, some
girls, will be jealous and consider you a threat. Your challenge,
tonight and for the rest of your life, is to maintain control with men
and to develop friendships with girls. Listen to your mom, she has been
through a lot of what's coming your way. And don't be afraid to ask me
for help with anything that comes along."
I listened closely to what Karen was saying, focusing on her lips and
eyes as she spoke her wisdom. When she was finished, I hugged her and
thanked her. I had a great friend in Karen, and I was grateful.
The ride home from the salon was nothing like the ride to there. Mom
seemed to be totally over her fear of David's intentions with me. We
were both happy about my situation, and I was getting more and more
excited about the coming evening.
Mom stopped at a deli on the way home. "We need to eat," she said, and
she parked the car and let me into the restaurant. I'd been in there a
few times before, but never as Dani. The family of a grade school
classmate owned the place, actually, and I figured somebody there would
recognize me, especially since I was with my mom. Still, it was
incredibly nice and fun to eat there, and I felt I pulled it off pretty
good ordering a turkey swiss club using the sort of a low, sensual voice
I'd been practicing. I got a smile and a "yes Miss" from the waitress,
then looking around, all I saw was friendly glances. I loved looking at
my nails while I ate, and I couldn't help making a lot of showy hand
gestures while mom and I chatted. I felt incredibly pretty, fresh from
my makeover, and I really hoped people would notice. Mom was wrapped up
in the fun of it, too, and she seemed to want to show me off. When we
got up to leave, mom purposely drew attention to us by calling the
waitress over and handing her a tip, saying, "My daughter and I really
enjoyed our lunch and your good service." Most everyone looked up, and
instinctively flashed smiles all around. Both mom and I had an extra
click in our heels walking out. It was the most fun lunch I'd ever had
in my life.
When we got home, it was still a few hours until David would be picking
me up. Mom suggested I go upstairs and take a nap. "Make sure you lie
on your back, dear," mom warned me, "and be careful not to mess up your
hair or makeup." Karen gave me a bag with my liner, blush, and
lipstick, but I knew I didn't have anywhere near the skill she had at
doing touch-ups, so I did what mom said, and laid carefully on my back,
So much was happening, and I was so happy. I slowly drifted off, and it
seemed like angel voices were singing a lullaby to put me to sleep.
"Wake up now, Dani," I heard one of the angel voices say. My eyes
opened, and I sat up on the edge of the bed. "Today you will become,"
the thought came into my head, and I repeated it with my voice.
Then a knock at my door, and my mom's voice, "Dani, it's time to get
ready."
"Yes, mom. I'm up, thanks!"
I got up and went to my bathroom, pulled down my panties and sat to pee.
Everything I was doing, everything that had happened today, seemed
completely natural. I was going to a costume party, but I was going as
me, as the true me, and I felt at peace with myself for the first time
ever.
I leaned over the sink to brush my teeth, being extra careful to not
mess up my lipstick. I looked at myself in the mirror, my mouth agape,
lips puckered, spitting out the white toothpaste, and I giggled, but I
wasn't quite sure why I thought it was funny,
My dress, hung neatly on hanger and hook, happened to be in the last ray
of sunlight coming in through the window so that it seemed to be
glowing. I looked at it with awe as I sat on the edge of my bed putting
on my heels. I changed panties and put on my bra, then with my fingers
tingling I took the dress from the hanger, lifted it carefully over my
head, and used my arms to keep it from my face, like Diane, Karen, and
mom had all shown me. The tingling was going all through me, and I
stood for a long moment enrapt by how I felt.
Then, suddenly a wave of anxiety came over me. Nervous and dizzy, I sat
back down on my bed. Maybe it's stage freight, I thought. Even though
I'd been living at home as a girl for the past month, had been to the
mall, the salon, and even to lunch with mom at the deli, this party was
like the real deal, my big performance, and several people I knew from
school would be there. What were they going to think of me, I was
wondering. Would I end up being a laughing stock? So much could go
wrong, and I was feeling like I really needed the therapy mom was
talking about. Sitting there, I felt weak, and a little nauseous. I
wasn't sure if I could go through it. I sat there almost shaking,
thinking of every negative thing that could happen. Then I heard a tap
on my door.
"Dani?" It was mom. "Are you up?" "Yes, mom," I answered, not sure
what my voice was conveying. Mom asked if she could come in, and of
course, I said yeah. I wanted to stand and pose and look lovely, but
instead, I just say there feeling weak. "Dani, what's wrong?" mom came
over to me. "Nothing, mom. I'm just nervous." Mom sat down next to
me. She brushed my hair back from my face. "You're so pretty, dear,"
she said, "and it is a Halloween party, so that's sort of a judgment-
free zone."
I looked at mom, she was being so cool. "Yeah, you're right, mom," I
said. Mom rubbed my back, and I was starting to feel much better.
"Besides," mom added, "David will be there with you, and you know he
won't let anything bad happen." "Yeah," I said, knowing mom was
absolutely right, and I was so happy she was so positive about David.
"Come on," she said, "I want to to give you something." Surprised, I
got to my feet and followed mom to her room.
Mom opened a drawer on her dressing table and took out a small jewelry
box I had never seen. "Come here, Dani," she said excitedly. As I went
over, she set the box on her dressing table, opened it, and took out a
green and silver beaded bracelet. "Here, Dani, I'd like you to wear
this." mom said, offering the bracelet to me. She opened the hasp, and I
held out my right arm. "It's an Irish good luck charm bracelet," mom
explained, "your grandma gave me the first night I went out with your
father." I looked at the bracelet, turning my arm to see all around it.
"It's beautiful!" I said. "Yes, isn't it?" mom said smiling. "And the
gemstones are said to be calming, and to bring on that good old Irish
luck." "I love it, mom," I said, seeing how cool it looked on my wrist.
"I'm so happy you like it, Dani," mom said, "it is an heirloom, and I
remember that my mom, your grandma, said it carried with it a blessing."
Mom leaned in close. "I think I had always secretly wanted a daughter
to pass it on to, Dani." I turned and looked at her; there was the most
loving look in her eye that I'd ever seen. I put my arms around her,
and we hugged.
"You should wait in your room, Dani," mom instructed. When David gets
here, your dad will answer the door, and let David in. I'll come up to
get you then, so you can make your grand entrance for David, coming down
the stairs. I can't wait to see his reaction when he sees you, so
stunningly pretty like this."
I was feeling so much better. There's nothing like the love of a
mother, and a precious bracelet, to make you feel better. I went to my
room as mom told me, and paced around, practicing my walk and poses,
stopping in front of the mirrors at my desk and in my bathroom. It
wasn't long before I heard David's car pulling up. I was so excited,
waiting and listening. The doorbell, my father's and David's voices,
them my mom coming up the stairs. I waited till she knocked, then
opened the door, and we both stood smiling at each other. "David is
here to pick you up," mom said loudly enough to be heard downstairs.
She stood aside and let me step out.
I don't think I had ever counted the steps in our flight of stairs, but
I knew now it was thirteen, as I descended gracefully, carefully,
sliding my hand with my bracelet, smiling down at mom, dad, and David,
waiting and watching me below. David was in his black suit, which
looked neatly cleaned and pressed. He held his magician's top hat and
wand. With my dad behind him on one side and my mom on the other, David
stood motionless watching me come down. It seemed like I was in slow-mo,
with every step and breath in exaggerated time. David with my proud
parents behind him, waiting and watching me. When I glanced at my mom,
she motioned with her eyes for me to look back at David. David looked
like just the exact boy any girl would want to pick her up, and I knew I
was lucky he was picking me up. As I finally reached the landing, David
took a step toward me, and I toward him. "Dani," he said, "you are
absolutely lovely." I lifted my hand, and David gently held my fingers.
"Thank you, David," I said, "and you are so handsome."
With that, we all chatted a bit. Dad actually laid out a few ground
rules about driving safely and having me home at a decent hour. "I know
it's a party," dad said, "and it wouldn't surprise me if there was some
drinking, but take it easy on that, and remember that you are driving."
"Yes, take care of our precious girl," my mom actually said. David
agreed to everything they said and promised it would be a safe evening.
Then he turned to me, still holding my hand. "Dani, are we ready to
go?" "Yes, David," I said softly. "Oh, wait a minute," mom said, "I
want to take a couple of pictures." And she quickly went to the kitchen
to get her camera. She came back, her camera mounted on a tripod. "Do
you mind, David and Dani if I get all of us?" "It sounds great!" David
said. And so it ended up with David and I standing together, him
holding his hat, wand, and my hand, and my proud and loving mom and dad
on either side of us. Then mom had an idea, she wanted David to put on
his magician's hat, waving his wand at me in a presto momment, turning
me into a model or what ever. That picture came out great, with David
waving the wand dramatically, and me falling back like I'd just been hit
by a spell, and my parents caught in amazement at my presto changeo.
The flash went off, and our memory was sealed.
Mom and dad watched us walk to the car, where David opened the door for
me, and I waved to them as I got in. David went around, got in, started
the great sounding motor, and we were off.
David drove slow, looking over at me a few times without saying
anything. I adjusted in my seat and noticed that my legs, exposed
almost to my crotch in my short dress, were almost glowing under the
dash lights. David had noticed my legs, for sure, and I was afraid they
were distracting him, so I tried tugging my dress down, and shifting my
legs into different positions, but it was no use, my dress was just that
short to cover any of my legs, and moving them around just got them more
attention than less.
"So, is this at all what you expected?" I asked, hoping to break the
silence and get David talking. "Oh, ah, Dani," David fished for a
response, "you look way better than I expected." He looked over at me.
I felt his eyes scanning my body and surprised myself by getting into a
more alluring pose, with breasts up, tummy in, and knees bent and
raised. "Way better?" I said, consciously drawing David's attention to
my face and lips. My ploy worked, and David focused on my lips, then my
eyes. "I just hope you like it," I said. "Oh yeah, yeah, Dani, I do
like it. I'm just surprised, nicely surprised, at how great you look."
David returned his attention to driving. "Well, I had a makeover today,
and your sister helped me a lot with clothes, and my mom was great
coaching me through it all. I just hope we didn't overdo it. Is it too
much?" I explained and asked. "No, not too much," David replied. "Are
ya sure?" I asked. "Cuz I don't want to make you nervous, or embarrass
you." I paused. "I mean, I kinda can't undo this," I emphasized my
body with my hands, "but we don't have to go to the party if ya don't
want." "Well that's nuts," David said, "besides, we're already here."
I looked out the window and saw a big house with a lot of lights and
cars and people. David somehow found a close spot at the curb, expertly
back in and shut off the motor. David turned toward me, putting his
right arm up on the back of the seat. "There is one thing, though, that
would help me get over the jitters," he said, smiling at me, his hand
close to my face. "Sure," I said, "what's that?" David ran his finger
on my chin. "Let me have one kiss," he said. "Sure," I said, realizing
that I didn't even want to resist David's charm.
He leaned toward me, and I to him. He slid his right hand behind my
shoulder. I reached up under his left arm and held on to him. I kept
my eyes open till we got too close, then closed them. Our lips touched,
and at the same time, I felt his other hand on my hip. I caught David's
breath through my puckered lips, and I reacted with a slight moan. I
could feel the shape of David's lips change to a smile, which I knew was
in response to my moan. He gently rubbed my hip, upper leg and lower
back; I felt dizzy, faint, and like I was helplessly responsive to his
touch. My head dropped back, and David leaned back. "Wow," I said.
"Yeah, big wow," David said back. We both turned back in our seats.
"Today, you have become," David said. I looked at him, remembering the
angel voice that said almost the same thing to me earlier. "Amazing
thing to say," I commented. David looked at me and kind of laughed.
"Well, are you ready for the party?" he asked me. "Sure, let's do it."
David jumped out and around to open my door and help me out. Then he
grabbed his hat and wand from the back, and we walked together up the
sidewalk to the front porch door.
