"I'll get to that in a minute. But first we went to her room where the

"Well, we all got dressed up and the girls decided to do my makeup.
They assured me that none of the boys would even recognize me once they
had done their makeup magic. So reluctantly, I agreed. The drinks
didn't hurt either. Or the weed."
"You were smoking? Annie, you promised me that you wouldn't do that

"Well, technically, it was Andy who promised you that. Anyway, Chloe
put on some nice music and we each took turns walking down the long
staircase. I almost tripped on the stupid shoes and killed myself

one by one Cliff's friends slipped away with one of the girls until it

bowl. She pulled out a small exacto knife and cut into her finger,

toward me. I didn't know what to say except 'Hello?'
The goddess walked toward me and motioned for me to stand. I did as she
instructed and she laughed. "So you are the one that Eos transformed? "

sisterhood. I have been watching you. What boon would you now seek of
me?"
I paused, unsure of how to proceed. Finally I just blurted it out.
"Just one, your Goddess. Do you think you could undo the spell and let
me have my old life back?"
My mother shook her head. "Oh honey, you didn't! To Aphrodite?"
"Well yes. I thought I deserved a chance to change back to Andy." I
said defensively. "After all, I didn't ask to be changed."
The goddess' eyes flared with fire. "That was an unwise request of me.
I find you unfit, and unprepared to join our sisterhood." Her voice
seemed to come from everywhere at once. "You do not understand your
true nature and fight against all that I am. All that I offer. As you
have insulted Eos, you have insulted me. These maidens have offered you
a place in their midst and you throw it back in their faces. You are
not fit to touch my garment. I shall have to punish you all."
Chloe spoke up. "Goddess, please? We have done all that you ask and
more and give thanks everyday for your blessings. Bringing this one
here was at your request. Please give us another path forward for we
are one with love for you, and want only what you want."
Wow, I thought. Who knew Chloe was such a good speaker. I felt scared
and ashamed of myself for getting them into trouble. Aphrodite was
silent. Finally she spoke, with a voice that was like a thousand
whispers. "Then let it be known that I will come again at some point in
the weeks or months to come. I will come in secret to observe. If this
one is made fit in manner, appearance and spirit, then I will give each
of you happiness and success in all things. If I find however that she
is still unfit to be my maiden, I will bring great sorrow and
unhappiness on all of you. Each of you will be assigned one aspect of
her training to oversee, and to help you in such a herculean task I
will give you the power of discipline and communication. Do not fail me
in this, for there are greater battles that await us." And then she was
gone. Only her perfume stayed behind.
"The other girls decided I should leave while they discussed a way
forward. I could see how angry they were at me, so I left," I said.
My mother picked up the statue of Eos and stared at it silently. I
didn't say anything. "Well," she finally sighed, "that changes
everything."
I looked up into her eyes. "Does that mean that you can't change me
back?" I asked, afraid that I already knew the answer.
"It means, I think that my daughter is going to be given lessons on how
to be a lady. I think you had better accept your situation and do
everything you can to make Aphrodite pleased.' Then she hugged me. "And
I will do everything in my power to help," she said. I couldn't tell,
but I thought she was smiling.
