babysitter was unavailable, and this meant that the task of watching

Sam grabbed a drink, threw his feet up on the coffee table, and found the
movie channel. A crime movie was playing, one he hadn't seen yet, and he

Amanda looked around her room. It was a little girls paradise. Her walls
were painted pink. In the corner sat a small white vanity. A matching set
of shelves contained plush stuffed animals, and books, all about
princesses and horses. Her bed was a twin sized bed, a Disney Princess
bedsheet spread across it. She wandered over to the pink chest that was
positioned along the wall, emblazoned with "AMANDA'S TOYS" in purple

Amanda opened the chest and began digging through it, pulling aside
various items. There was a jump rope, an Ariel themed frisbee, a giant
barbie head with horribly tangled hair, a few plastic My Little Pony
figures, a stuffed giraffe, and more.
"Where is it?" she mumbled. Amanda tossed aside a small pink tennis
racquet, and then a tambourine. "Ahh... here it is..."
Amanda pulled a wand from the bottom of the toy box. It was a weighty
thing. It was thick, made of a solid wood, not some cheap composite.
Jewels glittered at the end of it, pink and purple and blue and green.
They were real, and contributed to the weight of the wand. The bottom was
gold capped, and ribbons hung from the tip. The ribbons were made of fine

Amanda rarely brought the wand out. She had, from time to time, taken it
out when her friends were over. Every time one of them asked where she
got it from, she would change the story. A unicorn gave it to her in a
dream. A fairy handed it over while she explored the woods. She found it
under her bed. The story changed each time.
But the wand's power did not.
Amanda and her friends had done many things. They had created a flock of
butterflies, grown flowers, made it snow. It was clear that this was a
real magic wand. Sam had upset her, and he would quickly know its power.

Sam had cracked open a bottle of Coors that he had raided from the
fridge. The movie was just starting to get good. That's when Amanda came
and stood in front of the television, blocking his view. She had her

said to her.
"Final warning for what?" Sam's eyes narrowed. He wasn't trying to be

Amanda whipped her hands in front of her, and the diamonds on the tip of
the wand glowed. "Wand! Change!"
A blinding flash forced Sam to cover his eyes with his hands. He stood.

His body began shrinking rapidly, both in height and in mass. He
originally stood five feet eleven inches, but in mere seconds, he stood
five feet flat. His muscles burned away, leaving thin, slender limbs in
their place. His shoulders lost their bulk, becoming slim. His scalp
began to tingle, then itch, as his hair exploded. His brown hair shot
down his shoulders, over his back, settling at his waist. It was thick
and heavy. Sam began to feel his face change. He looked down at his
hands, which had become dainty and small, and brought them to his face.
It felt as if it had never grown hair there ever before.
But there was still more to come. His legs were growing svelte, like a
ballerina, his feet delicate. On his chest, his pectorals swelled out,
soft and fleshy, nipples hardening. Just as that happened, his penis

The scissors cut away at his clothes next. He was stunned to see a roll
of silk spin itself into a pair of soft panties that were pulled up his
legs. Next was a pair of white tights that clung to his legs. A slip
settled itself over his head, laying on his shoulders and hanging to his
knees. Finally, a light lavender dress was created before his very eyes,
complete with a peter pan collar and puffed cap sleeves. It too was

Strips of leather appeared in the air, and were bound together to create

to fit themselves on his feet. His finishing touch was a lavender bow
that matched his dress, clipping into place on the back of his head.
The energy vanished from the room.
"AMANDA! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Sam shouted shrilly. He paused for a second.

"I made you a girl! Now you can play with me!"
"What, no! Change me back! I'm... Why did you do this?"

Suddenly, Sam lost the ability to speak.
Sam began to shrink even more. Five feet, four feet... two feet, 11
inches. Sam's heart began to race as he felt his sense of touch change.
Before his very eyes, his skin was changing... The materials of his dress
began to change. Rather than the ornate quality silk, it changed into
cheap cotton. Sam's insides erupted in pain. Every organ had been
replaced by stuffing. His heartbeat ceased, but he could still think,
still feel. He existed, without the existence of a heartbeat. His skin
had turned to cloth. His hair began to transform. No longer was it full
and luscious- it had turned to strands of brown yarn. Sam wanted to
scream out, but he had no voice. His hands turned into mitt like things

His blue eyes vanished; black buttons sewn into their place. Though he
had no eyes, he could still "see" things, and sense where they were. He

A white tag sprouted along the seam that used to be his spine. It read

Amanda squealed. "Yay!" She ran forward and seized Sam around the waist,
pulling him up. It felt like he was on a rollercoaster, as if he were
going to puke. She ran to the bedroom, holding him in one hand.
Everything was a whirl.
She stopped in front of the vanity. "Look Sam! Now we can play, and you
can't say no!"
She held Sam up. "Look at how pretty you are!"
Again, Sam saw. He was unable to explain how. He was a small little doll
now, a stupid smile forever sewn on its face, black button eyes glinting
in the light. Little black eyelashes had been stitched around the
buttons. The checks of the doll had red circles stitched there, meant to
represent blushing. The hair of the doll was long- there was plenty for a

The legs of the doll were white cloth, meant to simulate tights. The
dress was a bit rougher and scratchier compared to the gorgeous silk
dress Sam once wore. Now it was a cheap rayon cotton blend. The hands of
the doll were decidedly unhuman like. The doll's feet were capped in
little black vinyl shoes that were fashioned after mary-janes.
The doll was Sam.
"Don't you look so pretty now?"
Sam wanted to scream, but he could not.
"Oh, and look at this!" Amanda bopped her wand on the vanity table, and
in a flash of light, a little purple purse appeared, a pink and yellow
flower stitched on the center of it. Amanda picked it up and pulled it
over Sam's tiny shoulder. "Don't you love it?"
Sam smiled. That was all he could do now.
"Let's go play!"
There was a small set of tables and chairs in one of the corners. Amanda
left Sam laying down on the bed as she arranged them properly, and then
dressed herself up in an old Halloween costume, and old pink princess
dress. As he stared up at the ceiling, his mind was racing. I need to
change back; I must change back. How do I change back? Maybe Amanda will
change me back...
Sam found himself seated at the table, across from a My Little Pony.
Amanda sat on his right, and Elsa sat to his left.
"Thank you for coming to Amanda's tea party, ladies." Amanda curtseyed,
and then mock poured tea into each guest's plastic cup. "Oh, your first
tea party, miss?" Amanda said to Sam. "Let me show you how to drink." She
held the plastic cup up to Sam's thin black mouth. Sam smiled.
"Tastes good, doesn't it?"
Sam's thoughts began to slow. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. He could
just sit here. He was nice and soft and squishy and cuddly and huggable.
Plus, he was pretty. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe it would be okay.
Maybe he could be happy.
"Oh, let me help you with that." Amanda brushed Sam's yarn hair back
behind his shoulders. Sam smiled.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. There was nothing wrong with being small,
cute, and pretty. There was nothing wrong with being a doll. Sam was a
doll now. He could be happy, be a happy doll. Yes, he would be a happy
doll.
Eventually, the tea party ended. Night had fallen. Amanda put on her PJs
and carried her doll to bed, and slept with her arm around it. Sam
smiled.
During the night, reality was rewritten. Sam never existed, and all
memories of him had been wiped from the universe. He was gone, replaced
by a doll. In the morning, Amanda's mother cracked the door to check on
her daughter. Amanda was stirring.
"Good morning, sweetie."
"Good morning, mommy."
"Hey, where did you get that doll? You didn't take her from a friend's,
did you?" Amanda's mom asked curiously.
"Oh-" Amanda paused. "I found her. She's my dolly."
"What's her name?"
"Samantha."
"Well," Amanda's mom laughed. "I'm sure you can tell me about it at
lunch. Is she a fairy, or a princess? Anyways, she's very pretty."
Samantha smiled.
