It's not every day my girlfriend gives me one of her friends as a sex slave. I wish it did happen every day, but alas, the world has to have some sense to it. Fortunately for me, today was more or less one of those days. What started off as a fairly boring day took a dramatic turn when my girlfriend called me and said she needed my help, both as her boyfriend and as a lawyer (I am not an actual lawyer, but I do try to keep up on the regulations.)
Apparently one of her work friends had gotten taken by debt collectors and was going to become a slave. She was in a fairly high position at work, and knowing how much my girlfriend made I found it hard to believe that she would have so easily fallen far enough into debt for that. As far as I know you needed to owe at least $100k for that law to apply to you. My girlfriend voiced her own confusion, stating that as long as she had known her friend she had been pretty frugal, so they all thought something weird was going on. That is where I came in. They wanted me to go in and take a look at the contract on her and see if everything checked out. And if worse came to worse, donate a few dollars towards the fund to purchase her before she was shipped off to who knows where. I told her I was on my way and twenty minutes later I pulled up to the debtors prison and rushed through the doors to find my girlfriend and several of her coworkers with puffy eyes frantically dialing numbers on their phones.
"Hey babe, what can I do?"
"Oh my god, Adam, you are here. They took Hailey and they won't tell us anything, just that she is being processed as a Class D Debt Forfeit. That is one of the really bad ones, but there is no way Hailey owed anyone $500k" My girlfriend Jessica ran up to me and hugged me, choking out her words through her tears.
"Okay Jessica, I will go talk to them and figure something out. Does Hailey have any family that could help out?"
"She has a boyfriend, we are trying to get a hold of him."
With that I walked up to the receptionist, a stern but attractive woman in her mid 40's, and asked her about Hailey's case. She directed me to a room labeled "Intake" and told me someone would be there to discuss the situation with me. I went in and waited and within moments a young woman, maybe about 27 years old came in and sat across the table from me, shooting me a cold look.
"Good afternoon sir. I understand you are here to see about purchasing the chit for one of our recent acquisitions."
"Actually no, my girlfriend is good friends with a young woman who was brought here, and multiple people have stated that there is no way she could owe anywhere near the amount your firm is claiming. I was asked to come in and see if there was anything I could do to secure her freedom." With that the woman's icy demeanor evaporated and she smiled at me.
"Oh, that is so nice of you. My name is Sarah, nice to meet you. I thought you were just one of those guys who trawls our website looking for cute young girls they can buy and use as pretty little toys." This got my attention, I hadn't thought of the situation like that. "But I am sorry, I personally handled the case in question, and everything checks out. Hailey opened a large number of credit cards in the last year and maxed them all out. Her bank accounts have also been drained, and the firm has no other way of getting our money back. I truly wish their was something I could do to assist you, but your friend has already been processed and chipped. Even if we did somehow prevent her sale, by this point she has lost her citizenship and will no longer be able to live a normal life. Besides, there is still the matter of the nearly half a million dollars she owes."
"Is there any way I could look at her records?" I asked, hoping I could find a loophole.
"Of course sir. And I will also do you the courtesy of taking her off the list so no perspective buyers can get their hands on her in the meantime." She pressed a few buttons on her tablet before handing it to me. Looking through her credit card history I noticed that Sarah was right. Hailey had recently opened up several lines of credit with huge limits, and maxed them all out. What really stood out to me, however, was the fact that nearly all the purchases were made to one of three different companies, local ones that I recognized by name. I pulled up the websites for all three and noticed that they were all owned by one man. I had a sneaking suspicion that this man had something to do with Hailey's predicament. I called Jessica into the room and had her look at his picture.
"That is Hailey's boyfriend? What does he have to do with this?" She asked me.
"I have no proof, but I would pay good money that he opened those credit cards in her name and then used them to funnel money into his own businesses. I don't know if he did this solely to boost his profits, or if he wanted to turn around and buy Hailey back using the family discount. If that is the case, I am guessing he got a little overzealous and charged too much, speeding up the process and getting her taken in before he had a chance to marry her. Did you girls manage to get a hold of him?" Jessica looked shocked but shook her head no. "Good, if we get this sorted out before he has a chance to find out we might be able to put this whole thing behind us and pretend it never happened." I glanced at Sarah who looked horrified.
"I am so sorry sir, but it is like I said. Hailey has already been processed. If you came up with the $500k right now the best we could do is transfer her chit to your name, but she is already a slave, and it is too late to change that. I will go explain the situation to my superiors, but this comes from way above even them. I am sorry." With that she got up and left the room, leaving her tablet on the table.
