THE FAIRY
Part ll

All at once, a bright glow enveloped the bed around him as the Fairies
disappeared from sight in their mysterious way. Caught up in the middle
of all this energy, Harold's body glowed brightly, to the point that he
couldn't see anything further and blacked out. When he came to, it was
morning, and the sunlight was pouring into the room though the window.
Rising from the bed, Harold was stunned to see that he now had a pair of
healthy feet again. Feeling full of energy, Harold happily ran over to a
mirror and looked into the glass - only to see a tall, slim blonde girl
staring right back at him from that very glass.
"The Three Fairies were right!" she thought. "It's time I started making
right the wrongs I've done!"
After calling the Holdiay gift shop to cancel the haunting, she went into
the kitchen and began the process of making good, sweet porridge, whose
smell brought Portia and the Clydesdales downstairs.
"That smells delicious, whoever you are!" Portia cried as she walked
toward the new fairy. And Dr. Clydesdale stopped her cold and said,
"Don't you know the legend pf the Three Fairies? They've the power to
change a person that's been bad into a good fairy for they'll allow no
evil to happen in Three Fairies."
"I met them them last night, Portia," the fairy said, "and I am Harold
Lloyd Grassgreen no longer. I'm now Lischis Qan Tae Syn, a Fairy of the
Realm!"
After Lischis served the porridge from the oven, she poured it into
everyone's bowls. Ms. Clydesdale said, "How d'you feel?"
"Like - like a ball of fire!" cried Lischio. "As if I'm young, strong
and healthy again!"
She then threw back her head and laughed heartily, then cried, "I feel
MERRY!"
After breakfast, she helped the others set up the Clydesdale's old
plastic Christmas tree right up in the living room. The whole gang then
decorated the tree with beautiful ornaments and tinsel. Lischis then
used her powers to place the angel at the top of the Christmas tree.
"beautiful!" Portia cried and Lischis replied, "I did you a frightful
wrong by not telling you who your father was till it was too late, so
you'll get the best Chistmas I can possible give you!"
"That'd be wonderful, Lischis!" Portia said as the two of them happily
hugged each other tightly.

Later, Portia and Lischis joined the others in the attic where the picked
out the items that they were going to give to the poor and needy - the
Clydesdales, that is. Lischis and Portia then joined the Clydesdales in
a brisk walk to the nearest branch of the Salvation Army, singing,
"Always try and do your best,
And don't feel ashamed to cry,
For Mama Dear will then sing you
Her Christmas lullaby."
"That's right, Portia!" Lischis said happily, and she smiled at Portia as
everyone sang,
"You will win al hearts
If you work your hardest -
There's nothing you can't tey.
Then mama will sing to you
Her Christmas lullaby."
"And never doubt yourself!" Lischis added.
"thanks, Lischis!" Portia cried.
\Portia led Lischis into the dining room as soon as they'd returned home
and helped her prepare the Christmas dinner. Afterward, Portia said to
Lishis, "thanks, Lischis - you're a real pal!"
A tear fell from Lischis's cheek when she heard Portia say this, and she
replied, "No one's told me that in a very long time!"
"Well, now you know it's true!" Portia replied, and Lischis told her, "As
a fairy, I'm going to have to right all the wrongs I've done!"
"You'll find a way, I know I!" Portia replied.
"Oh, I'm sure I will!" Lischis said, and Portia asked her, "How are you
feeling, generally?"
"Better than you could possibly imagine!" Lischis replied, and a woman's
voice said, "We've never left your side, Lischis, and you've made a good
start so far. Stay on your course, though, or you could become our worst
nightmare - an unseelie fairy. Stay on the side of goodness!"
"I WILL!" Lischis assured them happily.
As the two girls went down to lunch, Lischis suddenly became aware they
were being watched. She abruptly turned around and used her powers to
open the back door, using a breeze that knocked the man over backward.
They hurried outside and found him lying on the ground. Helping him the
house, where o his feet, they brought him into the house, where Portia
asked him, "Who the hell are you?"
"A process sever sent here to deliver this court order!" he replied, and
handed Lischis a court order that she opened and read,
"To Mr. Harold Grassgreen, You are hereby ordered to bring the will of
your late partner, Mr. Arthur Burton, to the local courthouse this
afternoon!
Sir Restram Lyons,
Justice, Three Fairies Courthouse."
"I'd better do as he says!" Lischis said.

Clothed in a glamour that gave her the appearance of her old self,
Lischis walked into the courthouse and went up to the clerk, who told
her, "The Judge's office is on the right!"
Lischis headed over to the judge's office, then knocked on the door. She
entered his office at his request and handed him the copy of the will.
"I'd no idea he hated me so much! He appears to have entered into the
partnership with me just to ger revenge on me for - so he thought -
casting my wife out of her home and leaving her to be killed in an
accident at the circus where she worked as a trapeze artist."
She then explained how Arthur burton had located her, how he'd tricked
her into partnership with her and how he'd set up the bizarre will after
his death, forcing Harold to test anyone who sought to marry Portia. The
Judge then himself read the will and was properly shocked.
"Your partner has broken public policy!" he said. "As a former performer
himself, he'd have known absolutely there was no way to set the middle
glass up in three moves in that position."
"What can I do about it?" Lischis asked him, and the Judge replied,
'Don't perform the test! Mr, Leeds has found the record of Portia's
birth, which confirms that the Kalla Pasha was her real father, and I
intend to rule that clause invalid this very morning!"
"Thank you, your Honour!" Lischis cried, and the judge replied, "Anytime,
Mr. Grassgreen!"
Lischis then left the courthouse and as she walked home, she dispelled
her glamour and stood revealed as her true female self, feeling better
already.
"Merry Christmas, everybody!" she cried as she passed a home near
Blacksheep House, and the people there waved as she went inside the
house. Seating herself at the table for lunch, Lischis smiled at Portia
and said, "Our English lawyer knows the truth now!"
"Thank goodness for that!" Portia said. "Now, after we eat lunch, I'll
tidy up your Uncle Claude's room so you can sleep better tonight."
"That'd be wonderful!" Licchis replied, even though she knew what Portia
would find there.
'It'd be better," she thought, "for the truth about Harold Greengrass to
finally be revealed!"

A she was cleaning the bedroom, Portia noticed an end table with a locked
drawer. Forcing the lock with a letter opener, she swept the dust out of
the drawer after opening it, and her eyes fell on a cardboard folder
tucked in the back. Removing it from the drawer, she opened it up and
found herself looking at an old family photo of the Grassgreens and the
Blacksheeps. Together, including Claude's wife Edna, who'd died years
ago. To her amazement, she saw a boy and a girl on Mr. And Ms,
Grassgren's laps. The photo was taken just before the Grassgreens left
England, and she took it downstairs and showed it to Dr. Clydesdale, who
looked at it and said calmly, "Judging by this old photograph, the
person who brought you to England wasn't Harold at all, but his twin
sister Marsha. Claude told me something about them before he did after a
surgery last month."
"That's right, Portia!" said Lischis as she entered the room. "I was
never actually Harold at all - I was actually Marshe Grassgreen in
disguise. Harold, my brother, was actually killed in the accident in
which he was supposed to have been only injured. I took his identity to
protect his legacy, for I knew that that good-for-nothing son of his
would never claim his inheritance, he hated Uncle Claude so much! I lost
my foot, and injured my arm, in a sledding accident many years ago as a
little girl!"
"And now?" Ms. Clydesdale asked her, and Lischis replied, "I'll give
everyone the very best Christmas theu've ever had!"
Then she laughed happily, touched by the fact that the Cltdesdales had
accepted her.

That evening, Portia and Lischis laid out the gifts under the plastic
Christmas tree. One of the gifts was Claude's old model car, which
Lischis tied up with a bow and placed under the tree on its new wheels.
The remote control she placed on the floor beside it. Delighted with her
gift, she said, "Uncle Claude would be very proud of me!"
"Yes, I'm sure he would!" Portia replied. "After all, the Clydesdate
girls will love it always!"
:I'm sure they will!" Lischis said as the Three Fairies smiled happily at
her as they watched from afar.

The following morning, Portia cooked breakfast for everyone. When the
girls saw the gifts, especially the old car, they squealed with joy and
grabbed the remote control and used it to send the old car careening all
around the room and bumping into the old couch and armchair. Delighted,
Lischis said, "They really love my uncle's old car!"
"Yeah, she does!" Portia replied, and then Ms. Clydesdate brought in a
tray laden with the best Christmas muffins you ever saw. Lischis asked
Dr. Clydesdale, "Have you ever sung in your life before?"
"No that I can remember, no!" he replied. "Not even yesterday on the
way to the Salvation army!"
"Well, it looks like you'll be singing now!" Portia said as Lischis
laughed heartily, then cried, "Yes, Dr. Clydesdale, you'll be singing
now!"
Then, as the girls grabbed the remote control and recalled the old car,
the Yuletide singing began, "Hark! The herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn king,
Peace on earth and mercy mile,
God and sinners reconciled.
Hail our saviour from the gloom,
Offspring of a virgin's womb!
The joy flows from glen to glen,
Like the groups of merry men.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn king!"
Dr. Clydesdale laughed heartily and said, "Yes, Christmas is a time to
spend with our friends and family and celebrate our Saviour's birth.
Therefore, it's only right that all of us sing the Chriot Child's
praises!"
"Yes, indeed!" said Lischis, and everyone then resumed singing, "Hark!
The herald angels sing,
As joy rings out and the bells ring,
Hail him now in fullest piety,
Hail the incarnate diety!
Hands to hold and voices swell,
Joy to our Emmanuel!
Glory to all behold him come,
Offspring of a virgin's womb!"
Then everyone sang, "Hark the herald angels sing,
Glory to the newborn king!"
"And no thanks to my late partner!" Lischis said joyfully.
"He sounds like a real blackguard!" Dr. Clydesdale replied.
"He certainly was!" Lischis replied. "I emailed Mr. Leeds the truth
about your parentage earlier, Portia, and he agrees that you should be
able to choose who you will marry! Dr. Clydesdale, it was my suster-in-
law's partner in the circus, the Kalla Pasha, who was Portia's father!"
"Is he still around?" Ms. Clydesdale asked her, and Lischis replied, "He
was killed in the same accident tht killed my sister-in-law!"
Now the girls turned the old car upside down and read the inscription on
the main transmission out loud, "ACME drive train for a model truck,
complete with miniature engine and treansmission."
Portia looked a Lischis angrily, who said, "But, Portia, I didn't know
that kit was for a truck!"
All at once, the flames in the candles flared up as the Three fairies
appeared.
"You have done splendidly!" they cried, and Lischis replied, "Thank you
so much, Ladies!"
It seems you have learned your lesson, Lischis of the Fiaries of the
Glen!" the lead fairy said with a happy, radiant smile as sne and her
sisters disappeared again.
