December, 16, 1987, Chicago, Illinois

“Steve, Jamie’s on the phone,” Dave said. “We’ll take it in the conference room.”

Dave, Julia, Elyse, Stephanie, and I went to the conference room to hear what Jamie had to say.

“It didn’t go well,” he said. “They pretended to not know what I was talking about.”

“So what are our options?” Julia asked.

“Prepare an invoice for the software, say, fifty seats, and one year of support, and send it to me. I’ll send it, along with a demand letter, and a promise of a ‘cease and desist’ letter to follow if they don’t pay. How they respond to that will tell us what our next step should be. Worst case, we go into court and get an injunction to force them to stop using the software.”

“Do what you need to do, Jamie,” Julia said. “We discussed this and we can’t let them get away with it.”

“OK. Have Elyse send me the invoice and I’ll send it to them by overnight express.”

“She’ll have it to you by this afternoon. I’ll have it couriered to your office.”

We hung up and Elyse excused herself to prepare the invoice while Dave called Greg and Alonzo into the conference room.

“I can’t tell you for sure how they did it, but I can tell you how it could be done. Alonzo and I figured out some ways to mitigate the problem, which we can explain.”

“How’d you bypass it?” I asked.

“It was trivial, in the end. I used a hex editor and simply replaced the code that checked the dongle. It’s mostly no-ops, but with a couple of bytes of instructions that set the value of the ‘valid license’ flag to ‘true’. Then, I found where the name of the firm is stored in the database, and used the database editor to change it to something else.”

“Well, shit,” I chuckled. “That was too easy.”

“Only because I had access to the source code, so I knew exactly where to look. If I would have had to decompile the code, I could have found it, but it would have taken a lot longer. The problem is that most of the things we can think of to solve this could also be defeated with a hex editor.”

“But not all?” I asked.

“Unless we could encrypt the binaries, I can’t think of a way to always be able to defeat a clever person with a hex editor. But we can make it really difficult for them. What I’m thinking about is using a combination of our current license code, the unique 32-bit identifier that comes from the dongle, and the company name to create the license file. Then, instead of just storing the company name in the database, we generate it from that combined key at startup.”

“What prevents them from just modifying it?” Dave asked.

“We’ll use an RSA algorithm. We can create a license key here that can be verified by our software, but can’t be created with the key that’s there. If you took a course in cryptography, it’s something called ‘message authentication’. We put our public key in the software, but keep the private key here. Nobody can generate an authentic license code without our private key and it never, ever, ever, leaves this office. That way, if anyone messes with the license file, like changing the name of the company, the check will fail.

“Instead of putting the customer name into the database, we’ll read it from the license file. Because the license file is guaranteed to be valid at that point, the name of the customer has to be correct. And because we have a ‘Licensed to’ line at the bottom of the screen, everyone using it will know it’s not validly licensed. We print the name on some reports, so I checked with Alonzo, and instead of allowing the customer to modify the company name on the invoices or time reports, it’ll be locked to what’s read from the file. They won’t be able to send that to a client at that point.”

“Could it be defeated?” my sister asked.

“It could, but it would be way more difficult,” Greg said. “They would have to find a way to code in the name into the variable instead of just changing it in the database. It’s possible, but difficult. One way to mitigate that is using cryptographic hashes to verify that the software hasn’t changed. The problem is the same, though: someone could no-op the checks. We can try to obfuscate it and make it more difficult, but that won’t make it impossible.

“We could intermix the code that does the license checks with important code, like opening the database, initializing the search routines, that kind of thing. That’s what Alonzo was helping me with because he knows that code so much better than I do. These changes aren’t difficult, but I’d strongly suggest we not add them until v3.0 because we’ll have to relicense everything. And as I said, it’s not foolproof. A determined, intelligent hacker with enough time and resources could likely defeat it.”

“OK. We won’t commit anything yet,” Dave said. “But I’d like you to work on the code as a proof of concept. I really want Jamie to get us a look at how they defeated the dongle system so we know if they did it another way before we decide what to do. I want as complete a solution as possible. Thanks, guys.”

They left and Elyse came back with the invoice. My sister agreed to take it to Jamie’s office, and headed out right away.

“The real question is, how widespread this problem is,” Julia said. “Last time, it was just one law firm, and they were in Chicago, and we knew where they got their copy. Now? I’m worried.”

“All we can do is keep our eyes peeled for any other violations,” Elyse said. “And see if Jamie can force the firm in Dallas to give up their supplier. That’s who we want.”

“We aren’t alone in this,” I said. “All of my computer games are starting to use some kind of licensing or copy protection. Too many people were making copies and giving them to their friends. It’s like making tapes from LPs and giving them to your friends.”

“So many people do that,” Dave said.

“True. But that doesn’t make it right,” I said. “If you own the copyright on something, you’re entitled to the profits from selling or distributing it. If you don’t believe that, we may as well fold up shop and all go get jobs at McDonald’s.”

“I guess I just never thought of it as stealing.”

“Me neither, back in High School. I think we all have a very different perspective on that now.”

There wasn’t much else we could do at that moment, so we all went back to work.

December 18, 1987, Chicago, Illinois

“Happy belated anniversary!”I said to squeals of happiness as I hugged my wives and kissed each of them.

“Shall we get started?” Kara giggled.

“Re-enacting our wedding night? I’m game!” Jessica said.

“No fair!” Kara protested. “You got a lot more than I did!”

“Because it was my first time!” Jessica said primly. “Tiger, do you need breakfast first?”

“The last meal of a condemned man?” I chuckled.

“Oh quit whining and get over here and fuck me!” Jessica giggled.

She got her turn, as did Kara, and after a joint shower, we went down to breakfast. We walked to the video store just after they’d opened and rented three movies. The first one was one we’d wanted to see, but had missed in the theaters: The Secret of My Succe$s, starting Michael J. Fox. The other two, at Jessica’s insistence, were Debbie Does Dallas and Insatiable.

“I only got to see the ‘pool table’ scene reenacted!” she smirked. “I think I need to see the rest!”

We spent the rest of the morning in bed, watching the two pornographic movies. Jessica’s assessment was similar to mine and Kara’s - Debbie Does Dallas was kind of boring, but Insatiable was pretty hot.

“Can you believe that guy at the end?” Kara giggled.

“He’s so big that there isn’t enough blood flow for him to get completely erect,” Jessica said. “And I’m not sure I’d want something that big in my butt!”

“What about in front?” I chuckled. “I do have a pretty large dildo in the toy bag in the closet!”

“You fit just fine, Tiger! And the only toy I need is you!”

“Me, too!” Kara agreed.

“Elyse asked to see the videotape,” I chuckled. “Do you still have it?”

“Of course!” Kara giggled, “It’s locked in my dresser. Would you really let her see it?”

“That’s entirely up to you,” I said. “I have nothing to hide!”

“No!” Jessica snapped. “You’ll show it to anyone who asks!”

Her tone was almost spiteful and I wasn’t sure why, or how to respond.

“Jess!” Kara reacted sternly. “That’s not true and you know it!”

“Sure it is!”

“Despite all the opportunities, from the time we married he’s only been with Bethany, Elyse, Shari, Lyudmila, and Tasha. And except for Elyse, only one time with each of them! And with your approval. So unless you mean in the sauna, that’s just not so! What’s wrong, Jess?”

I wasn’t going to get into the debate between the girls, because I didn’t think anything I could say could help. I saw Jessica wince from Kara’s withering defense, and she turned slightly away.

“Sorry,” Jessica said. “I shouldn’t have reacted that way.”

Now it actually was my turn to say something.

“Babe, if you reacted that way, I’m pretty sure that something is bothering you. If we don’t talk about it, it’s only going to get worse.”

She sighed, “These have been the weirdest, most stressful two years of my life.”

I decided to try a bit of levity.

“A trio marriage; Residency; sleep deprivation; your husband having two kids with a third on the way? What’s to be stressed about?”

She laughed, which was a good sign.

“I guess the stress is legitimate, but it makes me think in crazy ways and feel like I’m not in control.”

“The change from medical student to Resident was a pretty big one,” I said.

“Sometimes it feels like I’m on a river, carried along by raging floodwaters, and just barely keeping my head above water.”

“Maybe staying out until after midnight on Tuesday was a bad idea,” I said.

“Tiger, we talked about how much you and Kara adapt to my schedule already. That was an important night for your company, and as one of your wives, I needed to be there with you. And look at today - you took the day off.”

“For you and Kara, both. Because this fit into all of our schedules. Honestly, if anyone has room to complain, it’s Kara. I arrange things around your schedule, I work early, or late, or on weekends, or whatever, so I can be with you.”

“So you can be with US, Snuggle Bear,” Kara said gently. “I don’t feel neglected nor do I feel like an afterthought.”

“This is HARD,” I sighed. “But it’s worth it. It’s worth every bit of effort that I give.”

“You give,” Jessica sighed. “And I get on your case anyway. I don’t really give anything except a bit of freedom, and then I bitch about that, too. I feel like a terrible person.”

“I signed up for this, just as you did,” I said gently. “And just as Kara did. It’s not like I was tricked or trapped. I knew what it was going to be like. I had long talks with Al Barton about it, including about the little things that caused his divorces.”

“But I feel like I’m treating you like a doormat!”

“No, you aren’t,” I said soothingly. “You’re dealing with probably the most stressful thing anyone can do short of being in a war. And you even did THAT when you were in Ethiopia! If you think about your life, it’s a series of ER shifts surrounded by sleep and a couple of hours a week with your husband and wife. That would stress out anyone!”

“I guess,” she sighed.

“According to Al, it gets better,” I said. “Sure, your surgical Residency is going to be stressful, but you’ll have more time off and that means more sleep and more time with us. We can make this work, Babe. Don’t give up on it!”

“I’m not. I’m afraid that you will,” she sighed.

“Is THAT what this is all about?” I asked gently. “I promise that’s not going to happen.”

“Can you really promise that? Really?”

“I did promise that. Two years ago. All three of us made that same promise. Do you remember our song?”

Jessica smiled, “You’re the Inspiration, by Chicago.”

“And the most important words in the song?”

She nodded.

You know our love was meant to be
The kind of love to last forever
And I want you here with me
From tonight until the end of time

“Well, I most certainly meant it!” I said. “We didn’t say ‘for better or for worse’ because we didn’t use traditional vows, but that’s what we all meant.”

“Jess, we love you,” Kara said. “And we’re here for you!”

“But I’m such a bitch at times,” she sighed.

“And I’m an idiot at times,” I chuckled. “And yet, here you are.”

“What about Kara? She’s perfect!” Jessica said softly.

“I am NOT!” Kara protested. “We’ve talked about all of my problems. I’m not seeing either Doctor Mercer or Doctor Alborg any longer, but I still have demons to deal with, just as Steve does, and just as you do.”

“I can vouch for that!” I said playfully. “You should have met Kara just after Christmas of 1982. You’ve got nothing on her!”

“And Steve saw past all that, and look where we are now,” Kara said. “You aren’t a bitch, Jessica. You might act like one from time to time, just as Steve acts like an idiot from time to time. You two don’t really see my issues because they’re mostly in my head and I keep them there. But, the one thing I know for sure is that Steve loves me and will never leave me. And you should know the same thing.”

“But how do you know that?” Jessica asked. “He broke his word to you in High School. And in a far more serious way than he did with me!”

“Because he came to me and confessed. He could have simply hidden it from me, which is what Becky wanted him to do. Or he could have simply dumped me after getting what he originally set out to get. He didn’t do either of those things. Instead, he came to me, contrite, and willing to do what he could to make it right. Even when I walked out on him seconds before he was going to propose, he never gave up. He came back when I had no right to even hope for it, let alone expect it. Then he accepted me into his home, and loved me when I didn’t think anyone could love me. That’s how I know.

“Will he screw up again? I’m sure that he will. But you know what? The one thing I can be absolutely sure of is that no matter what, he’ll come to us and tell us. And that’s the basis for a good relationship. Nobody is perfect. Everyone fails. But being open and honest gets you through it. This is going to sound funny, but the one thing we can absolutely be sure of with Steve is that he won’t cheat on us.”

Jessica laughed, “Why would he? We let him play around!”

The Strawberry Patch Book 3 Life On The SavannahChapter 15 The Holiday Stories Halloween

Halloween is a silly holiday. People dress up in silly outfits and beg for candy. We live in a spread-out neighborhood that is part up-scale homes and part farm homes. Any trick or treating to be done had to be done using transportation. Several of our neighbors had a golf cart that they used to haul garden stuff around their property, they didn’t make golf carts big enough for the Herd, so we used the 16-passenger van we had decided to buy, and we drove the Herd from house to house in...

The Gathering Book 2Chapter 1 A True Holiday Season

Christmas Eve, 1999, Dutch came home to greet Rosa and Kathy with the news that Dr. Van Sciver and the board of Directors at the hospital had promoted him to the coveted position of Hospital Administrator effective after the 1st of the year. It amounted to a hundred thousand dollar raise and almost unlimited power and awesome responsibilities. Rosa and Kathy were speechless for a moment, and then they jumped all over Dutch as all three began to celebrate. Dutch picked up the phone and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

December 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “You should have called me before discussing this with anyone,” Jamie said. “Why? We’re not going to settle, and I understand the legal issues.” “You won’t entertain any kind of settlement?” “If Dante wants to hear my offer, I’ll tell him right now - my offer is ‘nothing’. And I’d appreciate if he paid your fee, personally.” “Spare me the references to The Godfather, please.” “That’s ‘Part II’m but I’m serious, Jamie. If he offers to get out of the...

Sex Holiday 2 The Lifestyle Friendly Hotel in Fl

Another FantasyAfter our holiday experience in Maspalomas I was interested in finding out if wife had really meant it when she had agreed to maybe having sexual experiences during overseas holidays. After dinner one night at home I suggested we look online for a venue for our next holiday. I asked if she was up for some new experiences and she said yes. I told my wife that we could go to Florida as I had been reading about a lifestyle friendly hotel just north of Miami. We could do some...

The Strawberry Patch Book 2 Lost and FoundChapter 43 Bonus Chapter The Holiday Stories 05 Easter Day

Year 4 Easter Day began with the kids getting dressed so we could all go to church. We were not a regular church going family, but we did observe the Christian high holidays. Easter is the highest. So, we dressed, not all fancy. This holiday is not about us getting all dressed up and showing off. It is about the idea that in the eyes of Christians, God sent his son to be the sacrificial lamb for all men. No more sacrificing animals before priests. No more having to go through a priest to...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 31 Home for the Holidays Part II

December, 1981, Milford, Ohio On Sunday, after swimming and having breakfast with Stephanie, I called Karin, and then Stephanie and I hung out until lunch. I had let Kara know that I was going to Don Joseph’s, so I wouldn’t see her. After eating lunch, I called Stephie to see how she was doing. Things were fine at home and she was hanging out with Red and Rose, plus seeing her other friends from High School. Daryl had called her, but she wasn’t going to see him. “I miss you, Yankee. December, 1981, Milford, Ohio As I drove to Kara’s house, I thought more about my conversation with Bethany. And the more I thought about, the more I realized that I had totally missed the signs. I had fallen in love with Kara without feeling the connection — in a sense, our kisses, and even our first lovemaking, didn’t feel different from many other girls I’d been with. But it was different. It was different because I loved her. And, eventually, we HAD felt the spark of the connection. We...

Holiday of a lifetime

I'd finally done it. I'd saved enough money to go to America for a holiday. I'd always wanted to holiday at a working ranch and learn how to ride. After a long-haul flight, an internal flight and transfer by car I finally arrived at the ranch feeling jet lagged and very tired. On arrival it was late and there was a brief introduction to other guests. There were a number of other people holidaying at the ranch, mostly Americans, and they were all couples. I was the only guy on his own and I...

December, 1981, Milford, Ohio On Tuesday morning, I swam and ate breakfast with my little sister and hung out with her until it was time to head out to see Anna. I was still surprised that she’d called out of the blue, and was really curious as to what it was that she wanted. Even though I hadn’t driven to her house before, I’d been there enough times to remember how to get there. I parked in the driveway, then walked up to the front door and rang the bell. Anna opened the door almost...

December, 1981, Milford, Ohio Kathy and I made good time driving back to Milford on Saturday afternoon. We grabbed a quick lunch in Lafayette, but otherwise we drove straight through to Milford, talking quite a bit along the way. We discussed her relationship with Kurt and mine with Kara. Both of us were happy with where things were and how they were going. I let her know that Elyse and Warren were getting serious, and I let her know about Stephie as well. “Hmm. Jack managed to finagle a ride home with a couple of cheerleaders who were juniors. I have no idea if he got anything more from them than a lift home, and I didn’t want to know. One of these days my brother’s love life was going to bite him in the ass. Some girl was going to find him with another girl, and there would be hell to pay. Hopefully she wouldn’t be carrying a weapon when that happened. The Sports Section headline Saturday morning was “UNDERDOG PIONEERS CRUSH WARRIORS!” I had no...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 36 My Lifes Journey

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. I read, wrote some longhand journal entries, ate, and generally relaxed while the plane zipped over the Atlantic. I’d come home, taken a sauna, eaten a light meal, and gone straight to bed, not bothering to check messages, look at the mail that...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 4 Calm Before the Storm

June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

The Holiday of a Lifetime Part 1

The Holiday Of A Lifetime by Susan Kershaw "Bye darling, have a lovely time and I'll see you in two weeks," said Tony's mother as she kissed him goodbye. "Take good care of my baby won't you Sybil, he's very precious you know." The two women hugged before saying goodbye and Tony waved to his mother as she drove away, turning his thoughts to the next fortnight which would be spent with his aunt Sybil. Aunt Sybil was his mothers step sister and Tony always felt strangely drawn to her....

My Wife at the Holiday Party

(This is a re-imagining of JetLag's "Party Game." All the credit for idea and structure goes to him. -- CO) *A few months ago, my wife Karen and I were invited to a holiday party that was thrown by my boss. It was the beginning of the holiday season, and we were eager to go to a nice party, even though it was going to be mostly attended by my coworkers. Karen and I had only been married a few years ago, after we met in college and fell in love, and we discovered very quickly in our relationship...

The Holiday that changed my life forever Part 3

Probably best if we move on to the rest of the holiday of exploration. Mike and I left Colin and Emma’s apartment and continued to meet up with them during the rest of the holiday for some more fun, but this story is about how things developed between Mike and myself as well as a couple of the girls we had gone on holiday with. It was another hot sunny day when we woke in our apartment, Mike and myself both naked in our own beds, I looked over to see Mike looking at me. ‘It’s been quite a...

The Holiday that Changed my life forever Part 1

The story begins when I was on a friends’ holiday a number of years ago, there was a group of us who went to college together, ten of us all together, 6 lads and 4 girls, and we were all good friends and had been through school as well together. Anyway as we approached our final exams, we thought it would be fun to go for two weeks of sun before we all inevitably followed our different career paths. We arranged to go to Playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria and split into two’s for room sharing, I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 20 It Happened One Night

January 17, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “What time do you have to leave this morning?” Kara asked as we showered together on Tuesday morning. “About 8:30am,” I said. “I’m driving over to get Jeri, then heading to O’Hare. We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. Our flight back on Thursday leaves LA at 11:00am, so we’ll be home by 8:00pm, I...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 32 Still Together

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 79 The Last Risk Of Freeze

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

Holiday of a Lifetime Part Two

I was sixteen years old and with my best friend, Simon and his parents Katie and Victor, we were spending the summer holidays on the island of Majorca in their huge luxurious villa. Another couple, who were friends with Katie and Victor were also staying with us and they were called Wendy and John.Earlier in the holiday, I found myself in the unbelievable position of being alone with Simon's mother in the villa's swimming pool where she actually seduced me into making love to her. Actually, it...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 25 A Partnership

October 5, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Tiger! I missed you!” “Hi, Babe!” We hugged and kissed more than we normally did when we met at the ER after her shift, then she hugged and kissed Kara, and the three of us started our walk home. “How was San Francisco?” Jessica asked. “Good. The User Group meeting went very well, I saw my old boss and professor, Scott Bannerman, and Bethany and I had a lot of time to talk.” “If all you did with her is talk, I’m not sure I want to go back to the...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 77 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part I

May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

Dun and Dusted Part 3 Book 7 of Poachers ProgressChapter 22 Things to do in the monsoon season

“Much as I expected Lord Bentinck has decided not to court-martial the four miscreants,” said the Governor of Coimbatore. “Bringing their treacherous conduct into public knowledge would be detrimental to the reputation of not only the Honourable East India Company but also His Majesty’s Government. Disclosure could have led to the end of the East India Company, and any hope of further expansion of British influence in India.” He took a mighty gulp of brandy from his glass. “What will happen...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 23 So Now You Turn Back Into Diana Prince

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

Life changing holiday

Some years ago when I was around my mid 30's, married with a couple of k**s. My family and I were on holiday in Cyprus. We had a ground floor 3 bedroom apartment on a quiet part of the complex. It was just off peak season so the place wasn't too busy. The apartment had a patio overlooking large grassed area dotted with small shrubs and trees where people would sit during the day to sunbathe. This area had a path running round the perimeter and it ran past the patios of the apartments.One...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 34 Old Routines and New Ideas

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. On Tuesday afternoon, after having lunch with Stephie, I made my rounds and then I headed over to Sigma...

The Fourth Season

The Fourth Season by Cindi Johnson March 2007 e-mail: [email protected] The First Season: Autumn -------------------------------- Preoccupied with beauty, Mike failed to hear the soft sound of approaching footsteps. "Hon?" Mike froze. He felt as if a knife had slowly, painfully, pushed into his stomach. Pam's one simple word, a word imbued with longtime affection, was today a question with no answer. Dressed in a pale yellow dress, his wife's dress, Mike sat...

A WellLived Life Book 7 Kara IIChapter 35 An Interview and Some New Friends

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

Living Next Door to Heaven 160 In Season

Our season opener against North Whitley wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be. Both JV and Varsity got beat, but only by a few points. When we analyzed the game we realized that the three-point rule would have made a difference. North Whitley's gym hadn't been refinished this year, so there was no three-point stripe. All shots were worth two points. If we'd had full count for our long shots, we'd have beaten them. Whitney had moved full-time to forward and about half the time it was...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 3 JessicaChapter 52 Lifestyle Choices

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 38 Freshman Year Ends

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

September 7, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “That went reasonably well,” Michelle said when her parents drove off. “There were a few times I thought my expression would give away something I shouldn’t. You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. I didn’t get much reading done because I was thinking about Tatyana, which led me to...

January 23, 1996, Chicago, Illinois “Father, bless!” I said, greeting Father Basil with upturned palms. “Bless you, Stephen,” he said as I kissed his hand. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. We placed our food orders right away and he left to put them in with the kitchen. “I’m not quite sure how to address this, so I’m just going to ask you bluntly. Are you the father of Michelle’s baby?” I shook my...

June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

A WellLived Life Book 3 PiaChapter 25 The Puzzle and the Cat Part II

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt. When she woke, she hopped out of bed and pulled a robe out of her closet and handed it to me. “There’s a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Go have your shower, then we’ll have breakfast after I have my shower.” I quickly showered and brushed my teeth, and went back to Katt’s room. She went to shower and came back a few minutes later. She dressed, and I got a very good look at her sexy body...
