“Steve, this is Veronica Burke,” Kara said, introducing the woman we were interviewing for the nanny position.

“Hi Veronica,” I said. “Can I get you something to drink?”

“Water would be good,” she said.

I got her a glass of ice water and we sat down at the dining room table with Jessica, Kara, and Elyse. Jennifer and Josie had already talked to Veronica, as they were doing the first screening. She was here, so that meant that they approved, and that her references had checked out. She was in her mid-20s, and had worked as a nanny for a doctor the past four years.

“Why are you looking for a new position?” I asked.

“The kids are ten and thirteen now, and don’t need a full-time nanny. I can’t really accept reduced hours where I’m basically an afterschool babysitter.”

“Tell me about the kids and what you did with them,” Jessica said.

Over the next thirty minutes, Elyse, Kara, Jessica, and I asked her all manner of questions. She seemed like she might be a good fit, but I had one more thing for her to do.

“Kara, could you get the last interviewer, please,” I smirked.

She laughed and got up and went to get Jesse, who was hanging out with my sister. She brought him back to the dining room.

“Jesse, this is Veronica. She might take Beverly’s place as your nanny.”

He looked at her, “Do you like the park?”

“Yes,” she said.

“And music?”

“Yes.”

“And dancing?” he said with a grin.

“Why, yes, I like to dance.”

“Will you read to me?”

I’d been prepared for that because Jesse and I had talked about it. I handed Veronica Fox in Sox and she started laughing.

“Oh God! This one?” she laughed. “OK, Jesse, come sit in my lap.”

It was all I could do to keep from laughing when she missed a word or got tongue-tied. Jesse was ruthless in correcting her, and she took it all in stride. When they finished, Jesse stayed in her lap, which I thought was a sign of approval.

“He has it memorized that well?” she asked.

“Try skipping a page,” I chuckled. “If you think he was rough when you missed a word or got tongue-tied, that was nothing! I think that’s all the questions we have. Do you have your salary and time off requirements?”

“Yes, for both daily and live-in,” she said, handing me a neatly typed sheet. “Jennifer told me this was at least 45 hours if it’s not live-in.”

“That’s right,” I said. “We’ll work out the exact hours in that case. We haven’t decided which way we prefer just yet.”

“Could I see the room and also have an idea when you would decide and when I would start?”

“Sure,” I said. “Follow me and we’ll give you a full tour.”

We showed her the ‘nanny’ bedroom and then gave her a quick tour of the house.

“We’d want you as soon as possible,” I said. “But we can handle you starting as late as September 1st. We’ll decide by the end of next week.”

Jennifer had two more candidates for us to see, one each on Monday and Wednesday. We thanked Veronica and she left.

“Well?” I asked.

“She’s nice!” Jesse said. “I like her!”

“That’s one vote,” I chuckled. “Jessica?”

“She worked for a doctor before, and it sounds like she was very involved in the kids’ lives, making sure they did their homework, but also making sure they got to their piano lessons and soccer practice. I’m actually OK if we hire her and skip the next two interviews. Kara?”

“I didn’t see anything that raised any red flags, and Birgit didn’t fuss when she picked her up. So yes, I’m fine with her. Elyse?”

“She’s good. I only have one concern,” she said with a smirk. “She’s a cute, athletic redhead with small tits. And you know what THAT means!”

I laughed, “Stop it! She’d be an employee just like the women at NIKA!”

“Uh-huh!” Elyse grinned. “But in all seriousness, I think she’s fine.”

“Ignoring Elyse’s impertinence, I like her,” I said. “If we were to agree to hire her, do we want live-in or not?”

“I think we should have her as a live-in, Tiger. I can’t predict my schedule, and Kara will have class and teaching assignments as well, and we definitely don’t want to burden Elyse with all the kids. Add in the fact that Josie and Jennifer both have fairly long commutes and I think it’s easier if she lives here.”

“That makes sense,” I said. “Let’s go talk to Jennifer and Josie. We can certainly afford her, and her references say that she’s a good cook, which will certainly help around here.”

“You’d let someone else cook?” Elyse gasped.

“Occasionally, sure. I guarantee you there will be nights when she’d need to feed the kids.”

We walked back to the coach house and knocked on the door and let ourselves in.

“What did you think?” Jennifer asked.

“We’re ready to hire her,” I said. “We all agreed. We talked and our preference, if you agree, is that she should be live-in. So unless you think one of the ones you scheduled for next week is better, we should just pull the trigger.”

“Told you!” Josie said. “He saw the redhead and it’s all over!”

I laughed, “You too? Elyse said the same thing! She’s off limits! Got that?”

“We scheduled the best one first,” Jennifer said. “So yes, let’s make her an offer. You saw her requirements?”

“I did. We can easily afford it, between the six of us.”

“Then I’ll call her and let her know. And I’ll tell Beverly we don’t need her back.”

“Your son approved, too,” I chuckled.

“She passed the Fox in Sox test?”

“With flying colors!” I chuckled. “He asked if she liked the park; if she liked music; and if she liked to dance. He’s got his priorities straight!”

“And his dad’s taste in women, too!” Jennifer smirked.

“Yeah, yeah!” I grinned. “Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to take my wives to dinner and then we’re going to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

Jessica, Kara, and I left Birgit with Elyse, and then headed out for our dinner and a movie.

July 23, 1988, Chicago, Illinois

“I thought we’d do something different today,” Melody said. “Instead of ‘Truth or Dare’ we’ll go around the room and answer questions. I have a few to start, but then we’ll go around the circle, and people can ask a question everyone has to answer.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” Peggy asked.

“Ah, each round when the question is asked, before you answer, you write down one person’s name, and their answer. The closest correct answer gets the prize for that round. The furthest, has to drink a shot of vodka!”

“Uh, we need some limits,” I said. “The last thing we need is alcohol poisoning. And if people get drunk, that causes a problem with consent.”

“I hadn’t thought about that,” Melody said. “OK. Then we’ll have a prize and a punishment. I can quickly come up with punishments for the four questions I have ready!”

“But we know the answers to some questions!” Lisa objected.

“True, if there’s a tie, then both get the prize. But I have some complex questions that I think will make it more difficult.”

“OK, let’s play!” Peggy said.

“First question has four parts: How old were you when you lost your virginity; was it to a guy or a girl; how old were they; and where was it? Paper and pencils are on the table. Remember, write down one person’s name, and their answers.”

I grabbed a pencil and paper and thought about it. I knew for sure the answer for Jenna, and I couldn’t imagine that she’d lie. She hadn’t objected or even flinched when the question was asked, so I wrote down her name, her age, my age, my sex, and the bedroom.

“What do we do with the papers?” I asked.

“Write your name at the bottom and fold them and put them in the middle. Someone will read them.”

“I think this is going to be boring,” Lisa said. “I say we answer this, then do something different!”

“What did you have in mind?” Melody asked.

“Finish this, since we already started. Then we can discuss it.”

“OK. I’ll go first,” Melody said. “I was sixteen, it was with a guy, on the beach, and he was thirty!”

“Thirty?” Cheryl exclaimed. “Holy cow!”

“Keep your comments to yourself!” Melody said playfully. “Steve?”

“Fourteen, with a woman who was twenty-three, in her bed.”

Lisa was next, “I was sixteen, he was eighteen, and it was in the backseat of his car, as I said.”

“I was twelve and he was thirteen, like I told you,” Peggy said. “It was on the couch in my parents’ basement.”

Then came Cheryl, “I was nineteen, he was twenty, and it was in his bed.”

Jenna was last, and I wondered what the reaction would be.

“Twenty, he was twenty-five, and it was in that bedroom right there.”

There was stunned silence for a moment, then bedlam.

“No way!” Lisa said, laughing. “You lost your cherry in a ‘Truth or Dare’ game?”

“Damn, girl!” Peggy said. “That’s pretty gutsy! And it sounded like it was great!”

“She might have had the best first time of all of us!” Melody said. “Mine was over in five minutes!”

“That’s four minutes and fifty-five seconds longer than mine was,” Peggy laughed.

“I’m guessing Steve picked Jenna on his paper and got it exactly right!” Melody said.

“I did. But there was enough information that everyone should have had three out of four for a couple of people.”

Melody checked the papers and I was right. I had all four, and so did Peggy about Lisa. The others had three either about Lisa or Peggy.

“Some interesting revelations there!” Lisa said. “How did you hook up with an older guy like that for your first time?”

“We went to Florida with my dad on a business trip,” Melody said. “One of the guys in his office was a hunk and flirted with me. I snuck out to take a walk on the beach with him and one thing led to another!”

“I’m curious, what were some of the other questions?” Peggy asked.

“The oldest and youngest person you had sex with, your total count of guys and girls, what you’ve done, that kind of thing. I think you’re right. It’s not as exciting as I thought it was going to be. What should we do instead?”

“I say we just cut to the chase, get naked, and have some fun!” Peggy said.

“I second that motion!” Lisa said emphatically.

“There’s only one guy!” Cheryl protested.

“You like girls too!” Peggy said.

“Fuck you, OK? Just fuck you!”

“If you two want to have a lovers’ quarrel take it somewhere else!” Lisa said. “We have a very, very talented guy here who’s more than willing to do pretty much whatever we want!”

“True, but not everyone is into public sex,” Melody said, looking at Jenna.

“Uhm, I’m not sure,” Jenna said. “Maybe.”

“We know Cheryl won’t,” Peggy said, now sounding nasty.

“Patricia!” Lisa said sharply. “Enough! I know you two broke up, but stop with the catty comments. You’re spoiling it for everyone. Now, I’m going to take Steve into the bedroom and blow his mind, among other things. Join us if you want. Do whatever. But if you come into the bedroom, in the words of Doc Brown, you’re going to see some serious shit. Participate if you want, I’m sure Steve can get it up multiple times!”

“Damn!” Melody gasped.

Lisa got up and grabbed my hand. She pulled me into the bedroom and shut the door. Then she just stood there.

“Now I’m confused,” I said.

“Shh. I was trying to put an end to the stupid cat fight. Let’s see what happens.”

I nodded, but I held my arms out. She melted into them and we kissed fiercely. I wasn’t surprised when the door opened, and Peggy came in. She shut the door behind her.

“I hope there’s more of that!” she said.

I broke the kiss with Lisa and Peggy instantly threw herself at me, kissing me and trying to probe my tonsils with her tongue. I heard the door open and shut, so I broke the kiss with Peggy. To my surprise, it was Jenna.

“You sure?” I asked.

She nodded so I pulled her into my arms and we kissed, though like the other day, it was soft and gentle, and very sexy. I broke the kiss when the door opened.

“Cheryl decided to leave,” Melody said.

“All talk, no action,” Peggy sighed. “She made all these grandiose claims and in the end, Jenna, a virgin, was more daring than she was.”

“Peggy,” I said carefully, “not everyone is the same. I think maybe you pushed her too hard last time. She didn’t want everyone to know that she likes girls. If you think about it, her bragging about all the guys was probably a cover. And the one time with one guy may have just been trying to prove to herself that she wasn’t a lesbian.”

“How the fuck do you know all that?” Peggy said.

“Because a girl I was madly in love with, and still love to pieces, is a lesbian. We dated a lot in High School, and our relationship was hellish at times because she was so conflicted. In the end, she came out and now she’s very happy.”

“That’s Jennifer, isn’t it?” Jenna said. “Jesse’s mother?”

“Yes. So I know, at least from one perspective, what’s going on. Cheryl is conflicted. Right now, she doesn’t want to be a lesbian, but she might be. Or, she could be like Peggy and be bisexual. But who knows?”

“Bisexual?” Jenna asked. “Really?”

“Twenty-five partners, and an even mix between guys and girls is pretty much a dead giveaway, don’t you think?”

“He’s right,” Peggy said. “At first I thought it was just experimentation, but then I decided I liked it. It doubles my chances of having a date on Friday nights!”

The girls laughed.

“And Lisa, you’re OK with kissing girls?” Jenna asked. “But nothing else?”

“Yes. Like we said the other day, everyone has their limits and their comfort zone. Kissing is no big deal, but the chances I’m going to munch a rug are zero! Peggy, on the other hand, likes doing that!”

“So do I!” I chuckled.

“Lisa, did you want to just get your wild fuck out of the way so we can play?” Peggy laughed.

“She’s not the only one who wants one!” Melody giggled.

“Well, then, that makes three of us!” Peggy said.

“Four,” Jenna said softly.

“Jenna? Are you sure?” Lisa asked.

“Do you remember when I begged him to, you know, fuck me? I really went crazy and that’s when I screamed!”

“So how is this going to work?” Peggy asked.

A WellLived Life 2 Book 10 BridgetChapter 20 Winter or Summer

October 12, 1996, Rutherford, Ohio Rutherford, Ohio was a relatively small town; but then again compared to Chicago, Cincinnati was a relatively small town. Rutherford was bigger than Milford, but not by a lot. It had the regional trauma center, the BMV, and the Harding County courthouse and other government buildings, as well as the Sheriff’s Department. I could imagine Milford being like Rutherford if all those facilities had been in Milford, instead of Batavia, which was the Clermont...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 5 MichelleChapter 78 Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Part II

May 15, 1992, Glencoe, Illinois “Join me in my study, if you would,” Noel Spurgeon said when we finished our dessert. It had been an interesting evening. Samantha and I had talked for a bit before we’d been summoned to dinner. The meal had been prepared by a chef and was served by a white-coated young man. Again, this was a far cry from Lois at the van Hoeks’ house. What wasn’t a far cry was the fact that I was having dinner with a man who knew I was going to be sleeping with his daughter...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 7 SakurakoChapter 57 Land of the Rising Sun Part III

June 23, 1994, Oguni, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan My first week in Japan flew by, and a routine developed. Sakurako would wake me; I’d exercise and run, then shower and have breakfast, and share tea with Sakurako. After breakfast, I’d meditate, and then have my training session. After lunch, I’d work in the garden, or, as I had this day, wash the floors in the house. Hiroshi would accompany me back to the cottage and we’d talk while I washed up and dressed for dinner. After dinner, I’d spend...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 65 Summer of 93 Part I

June 12, 1993, Chicago, Illinois “How was the movie?” I asked Samantha on Saturday morning. “Totally cool!” she replied. “It was like the dinosaurs were real. I mean, obviously they aren’t, but the graphics work was amazing!” “And the plot?” “Hokey, but entertaining. I think you’ll like it.” “Too scary for the boys?” “I think Jesse would be fine, and probably Matthew. I wouldn’t take Nicholas, Michael, or Albert.” “Scary how?” “Being chased and eaten by dinosaurs! The two oldest ones...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 33 Summer Vacation Part VI

May-June 1983, Milford, Ohio When we arrived back at the Spencers’ there was a phone message asking me to call Ruth. I was sure what that was about, so I picked up the phone and dialed the number. “Sandy had her baby!” she said. “A girl and she named her Hope.” “Are they both doing OK?” I asked. “Yes. They’re at Clermont County and Sandy wants to see you.” “You realize that if her dad is there, it’ll start World War III? That just doesn’t seem like a good idea.” “He works tomorrow, and...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 6 SamanthaChapter 67 Summer of 93 Part III

July 13, 1993, Chicago, Illinois Abbie was in tears when I came back from my run with Gina on Tuesday morning. I knew why even before she spoke. “Jason called. Davey died at 7:00am this morning at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.” “Shit,” I sighed. “This has been a totally fucked up year. And that family has really suffered. Bobby’s serious injuries, Clifford’s death, and now Davey’s.” “Jason said he’s going to quit today. He can’t take it anymore. And he needs to...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 56 End of the Summer Part IV

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois At O’Hare, I parked in the short-term lot as I usually did and walked into the terminal. I checked the arrival board and saw that the flight from Atlanta was listed as on-time. I walked to security, passed through the metal detectors, and then walked to the gate. I sat down to await Stephie and, hopefully, some answers. The jet pulled onto the ramp and parked, and the engines shut down. The Jetway was extended and shortly after, the first passengers began to...

Davids Life Book II Just Like Starting OverChapter 9 Hot Town Summer in the City

In the past, David and Meri had spent the summer at the camp, and had loved it. This year was going to be different. They were both going down to NYC, and stay there for the summer. The Wilson's had friends who had a place down in Manhattan that was available, this year. The three parents had talked about it, and agreed that it would be good for them to see something different. Plus, there were the museums, parks, and so much more for them to explore and experience. It didn't hurt that the...

A WellLived Life Book 2 JenniferChapter 23 End of the Summer Vacation

August 1978 Things did go back to normal on Monday. Jennifer and I talked, and she seemed to be more like her old self. I wondered just how often she’d need something like this. I suspected she’d want something different before I left for Sweden. I wondered if I would survive. We would need to talk about this, but it seemed we both needed some time to think about what had happened. August moved right along. Jennifer and I went on dates and made love gently every time. I saw Joyce as well —...

Roger noticed the stressed look on Dave's face as he entered the room. He asked, "What's wrong?" Dave replied, "Sheri just kissed me; she really kissed me. It was a total surprise. As soon as I could I told her I had a girlfriend and that I wouldn't betray that trust; but Sheri seemed to get really pissed. I swear I didn't do anything to lead her on. Davids Life Book II Just Like Starting OverChapter 3 Summer Time

One of the great things about the 1980s was, to many, the music. Blondie's "Call Me", Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me", Lipps Inc.'s "Funky Town", and many others. You couldn't go to out without hearing something great on the radio. Then again, people who were young in early 1980s had so much going for them. The world was relatively peaceful, though there were those hostages in Iran until they were released after Reagan was sworn in as POTUS. The economy seemed to be...

May, 1983, Milford, Ohio On Sunday after swimming and breakfast, Stephie and I spent some time with my dad before leaving for Don Joseph’s house. We stopped at the Tri-County Mall on the way so I could get Larry a card and a small gift, and arrived about 1:00pm. Joyce was already there and a small nod from her told me that she’d explained things to her grandfather. I put Larry’s card and gift onto the table that was already overflowing, and went into this office to greet him. “Steve!...

August 1979 — Hovås, Sweden It was the final week before I’d start school. Monday morning, after my jogging and golf, I went with Patrick to the store to buy notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, and other supplies I’d need for school. I’d brought my TI-30 calculator with me, so I didn’t need to buy one. I also bought a small zippered gym bag to carry my homework back and forth to school. I managed to make all my purchases without speaking a word of English, but it had been fairly simple...

July, 1983, Chicago, Illinois I woke up early on the First of July, because my body clock was still set to Swedish time. The flight back had been long but uneventful, and I was happy that the businessman in the seat next to me hadn’t wanted to talk. June 1977 When I got home, I grabbed a Coke and some chips and went right to my room. I didn’t think I could deal with my parents or Jeff or Stephanie. I just needed to be by myself. That wouldn’t seem odd to anyone, because I often went to my room to read. In addition, I now had the TV I’d received for my birthday. I flipped it on to WXIX Channel 19 and reruns of Gilligan’s Island and Green Acres played in the background while I read. I had to get my mind clear for the final exams that...

July, 1984, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday morning, Jackie and I ate breakfast together, and then she left to head home. As I turned the corner onto Woodlawn, I saw a black sedan parked in front of the house and two men in suits standing on my front porch. I sighed. It had to be the FBI. A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 59 New Friends

August, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The rest of the week proceeded as expected - class on Wednesday, as well as the usual visit from Penny, work on Thursday, and class on Friday. Kara and I had lunch together at IIT, Sofia practiced her driving and parking, and I hung out with Mark Agnini after class for beers. Staci and I got into a couple of interesting debates about the Old Testament that Mark had to break up to allow others in the class to participate. She was very much of the ‘directly...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 48 Summer of 84 Part III

July, 1984, Chicago, Illinois On Wednesday morning when I woke, I went for a run, reminding myself that I needed to do it regularly. When I got back, I hopped in the shower and almost immediately the phone started ringing. I walked, dripping water, to the phone in my bedroom and answered. “Hey big brother! I’m leaving now! I’ll see you about 2:00pm!” “Drive safely, Squirt!” I said. We hung up and I went back, finished my shower, then dressed and went downstairs to eat breakfast. After...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 53 End of the Summer Part I

August, 1983, Chicago, Illinois Becky was quiet on the drive back to Chicago. My answer to Alyson’s question had been weak. Saying “I can’t” just didn’t really cut it. Alyson had pressed me, but I’d declined to answer further, just saying that it wasn’t going to happen. We’d finished our lunch and then Becky and I dropped Alyson at her house. She’d hugged me and then given me a quick kiss on the lips. The last thing she’d said to me was, “Give it a chance, Steve.” Becky had wisely not said...

A WellLived Life Book 9 AnalaChapter 46 Summer of 84 Part I

July, 1984, Stockholm, Sweden Sitting at the gate at Arlanda airport, I thought back over the final six days of my trip to Sweden. They had been filled with sightseeing, talking, and dinners, both in the apartment and out, with Karin’s parents. And of course, making love. I did, finally, on the last evening, take a trip, alone, to see Birgit. I put flowers on her grave and knelt there, imploring her for answers to the difficult questions that were swirling around my head. She, like the...

A WellLived Life 3 Book 1 SuzanneChapter 7 Reaching the Peak

March 25, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “What time do I need to have you home?” “8:00pm will be fine,” Misty replied. “My parents are in Normal visiting my brother at Illinois State. They aren’t supposed to be home before 10:00pm.” Misty and I were in my car on the way to the NIKA apartment which, fortunately, was not being used. With our expansion, it was in more or less regular use, and that meant I didn’t have access to it as often as I would have liked. I was glad there had been a delay in...

Summering in Femininity Part 1 A Bummer Summer

A Bummer Summer? It was the dream of every seventeen year old, during the summer before his senior year of high school to spend it miles away from all his friends and all his stuff. In case you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm, because for Taylor Hughes, that was the last thing that he wanted. Unfortunately, he had no control over the matter. His parents were going out of the country on business for the entire summer, and trying as he might, Taylor was unable to convince them to let him...

January 17, 1989, Chicago, Illinois “What time do you have to leave this morning?” Kara asked as we showered together on Tuesday morning. “About 8:30am,” I said. “I’m driving over to get Jeri, then heading to O’Hare. We have an 11:00am flight. Assuming all goes well, we’ll be in the office by 3:00pm Pacific time. We’ll spend a couple hours going over the software then go to dinner. The demo is tomorrow. Our flight back on Thursday leaves LA at 11:00am, so we’ll be home by 8:00pm, I...

A WellLived Life Book 8 StephieChapter 29 Summer Vacation Part II

May, 1983, Chicago, Illinois On Friday morning, after a good night’s sleep, we ate breakfast and packed the last of our things. We loaded as much as we could into the cars and drove it over to the house. After unloading everything, Stephie and Elyse went back for a second load while I met with Gerald Brown. “The electrical inspector is here and the plumbing inspector will be here later this morning. I don’t foresee any issues, but I have both a Master plumber and a Master electrician...

A WellLived Life Book 1 BirgitChapter 7 Setting the Course of My Life

June 1977 Friday ended up being a non-event. The more I thought about it, the more I was sure that there was no way on this earth I could say what happened between Birgit and me was a sin. Calling it a sin would debase it into a meaningless act. I could never do that. And the more I thought about Jennie McGrath, the more sure I was that I couldn’t call what she did for me a sin, either. If the church was right, I was going to hell. And frankly, there was no way that could be true. So I...

July 22, 2000, Chicago, Illinois “Albert, do you have everything packed?” Mom asked. “Yes, Mom!” I replied, rolling my eyes because she’d asked before I went to bed. “He’ll be fine, Babe,” Dad said. “Let’s walk to the hospital.” I usually didn’t get up early, but Dad had suggested it would help Mom if I walked to the hospital with her because I was leaving to see Jane for three weeks. Mom, Dad, Aunt Kara and I left the house and headed down the sidewalk towards the hospital where Mom and...

May 14, 1997, Chicago, Illinois “Start talking!” Melanie demanded when I sat down in her office about an hour later. “There isn’t much to say. Katya found the information for me when I asked her to look into several things about Brandon Littleton, Kevin Lomax, and John Milton.” “Do you know more about him?” “A LOT more. I don’t think you want to know.” “Probably not, but I’m your criminal defense attorney, and even though San Antonio doesn’t have you involved in this, you know the CPD...

“So, how should we do these Stone’s songs?” Phil asked at our rehearsal session. “I think we all know the music, we just need to come up with a pretty awesome arrangement; we don’t want to sound like yet another cheap cover band.” “I had some ideas, if it’s okay for me to make some suggestions,” Allison said. “Of course it is,” Phil said. “Everyone can have a say, there’s no rule that says you can’t participate in the discussion.” “Thanks, Phil, I guess being the newest here, I’m a bit...

October 5, 1992, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Tiger! I missed you!” “Hi, Babe!” We hugged and kissed more than we normally did when we met at the ER after her shift, then she hugged and kissed Kara, and the three of us started our walk home. “How was San Francisco?” Jessica asked. “Good. May 11, 1992, Chicago, Illinois Monday was turning out to be a LONG day. After my run and talk with Gina, and my talk with Elyse, I had a full day at the office scheduled. First was our leadership meeting in the morning, and then I had status meetings with each team. At lunch I’d gone to see Siobhán and explained that I was going to break off the sexual relationship, but that I wanted to remain friends. She was disappointed, but admitted that Thursday would have been the last time, since she...

January 19, 1989, En-Route from LAX to ORD When the engines of the plane started, Jeri reached over and took my hand. She held it while we pushed away from the gate, and taxied for takeoff. Her grip tightened a bit as we hurtled down the runway, but nothing like the death grip she’d had on my arm for the flight out. The plane roared its way into the air and once we leveled out, Jeri’s grip loosened but she didn’t let go of my hand. “How are you doing?” I asked with a touch of...

September 1982, Chicago, Illinois The weekend was quiet and besides homework, I worked on the program changes for Frank, called Karin, Tatyana, and Kara, and hung out with my usual study group. Monday was refreshingly normal. On Tuesday morning, I handed Katy my completed intake form. She put it in an envelope and stuck it in her bag. She said she’d let me know soon about the interview. July, 1984, Chicago, Illinois The week flew by. On Monday, I met with Doctor Alborg and we discussed the relationships that I had with adults, ranging from Jennie McGrath to Ivan Voronin. We talked about my run-ins with Kent van der Meer and Kara’s dad, and contrasted those with my relationships with Ben van Hoek, Frank and Trudy Spencer, Robert and Allison Block, and Ivan Voronin. We came to the end of the session before we could talk about my sister. I let Doctor Alborg know that I’d be...

October 1982, Chicago, Illinois The drive back to Chicago was as uneventful as usual, and I arrived at the apartment just before 6:00pm. When I arrived, Elyse and Stephie were sitting on the couch and Jackie was sitting on the loveseat. Stephie hopped up as I opened the door and greeted me with a hug and a kiss. “Hi, Peaches!” I said. “Glad you’re home, Yankee!” “Hi, Steve,” Elyse and Jackie both said. “Hey,” I replied. “How was the weekend?” “Well, it was just Kurt with me, Stephie,...

June 11, 1989, Chicago, Illinois It was just after 3:00am when I kissed Trish goodbye. She’d been an enthusiastic, energetic, and adventurous lover. We’d done just about anything either of us could think of, though her breasts weren’t large enough for a tit-fuck. The last time had been in the shower where we’d ostensibly gone to clean up afterwards, but instead I ended up taking her from behind as she leaned against the wall of the shower. “I think I’ll have you again, Steve Adams,” she...

Dave reached the top of the stairs and walked down the hallway towards the room occupied by Katherine and Jennifer. He knocked on the barely closed door before he walked inside. Jennifer and Katherine were still cuddled together but Katherine appeared to be more relaxed. They both looked at Dave questioningly. He smiled and answered their implied question, "He was gone when I got down there." Both girls looked relieved. Dave continued, "The party has pretty well broken up. There are only...

May 1978 The first couple of weeks in May were busy with school, work, and friends. Except for Becky, I didn’t even have any dates. But I was OK with that. Well, almost OK. I wanted to see Anna, but it likely wasn’t going to happen until school was out. I had tutoring sessions with Melanie, but she still wouldn’t talk to me about anything other than Spanish. Barely a hello. I was grateful for the tutoring, but it was maddening seeing my friend this way. I hoped someday she could understand...

A WellLived Life Book 6 Kara IChapter 44 Spring Break 1982 Part I

March, 1982, Milford, Ohio As I drove along I-65, I thought about what Stephanie had asked for and what Bethany had said without even knowing about the request. Of course, because Bethany and I were so in tune, she might have actually had an idea that I was struggling with getting involved with my sister again. I kept turning it over and over in my mind and I kept coming to the same conclusion — that I shouldn’t do it. I was torn between doing what Stephanie wanted and doing what Kara and...

You were messing with me, weren’t you?” She grabbed both my hands and smiled, “I was telling the truth, in my own way. Thank you!” She leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “So, what’s left?” I asked. “To visit UofC tomorrow and formally withdraw from classes. To spend some time with you and your...

The flight home from Calgary was a long tiring trip. The team had been loaded onto a bus at six o'clock in the morning and, after changing planes in Toronto, they arrived back in Queen Anne Island at four-thirty. The team exited the plane in QAI tired but happy to be home. Dave had hoped his family would be there to pick him up but he and the whole team were shocked when they entered the airport. It seemed half the city had turned out to congratulate them for their national title. The small...

October 1981, Chicago, Illinois I arrived back at the apartment just before 10:00pm and saw the address for the party. I decided I wasn’t particularly interested in going so I put on some music, poured myself a glass of wine, and started reading more about Russia. I was alternating between the history and culture book and the Communist Party book, decided on the history and culture book for this time. The waiter showed us to a quiet table along the wall of Roditys in Greektown. He took our drink orders and was back quickly. June 29, 1995, Chicago, Illinois On Thursday, I finally had lunch with Melissa again, something I hadn’t been looking forward to. Much like with Cèlia, Melissa and I had passed an inflection point and I was left with sub-optimal paths forward. I’d been struggling with the possible solutions, and all of them had pitfalls. When I walked into Takumi, I had something of a plan. Whether it was good or not would only be known once everything played out. “I spoke to my wives,” I said after we’d...

March 1980, Hovås/Göteborg, Sweden I woke early as usual, but just enjoyed being in bed with Katt.
