I woke the next day after a restless night and joined Mom in the kitchen. Mom was wearing a white button down blouse and a short pleated black skirt. Mom gave me a twirl and asked, "How do I look?"

Smithy, the man running the gun shop and the range, said, "That's a good attitude to have Miss. You're less likely to shoot yourself in the foot or blow off some other more vitally needed body part."
Once he made sure I understood how to make guns safe, or as safe as they can be, he started me out on a .38 revolver. He said I did pretty good for my first time. I didn't hit the bull's eye or make a smiley face or anything but he said I did have a good grouping.
We stopped for lunch on the way back. It was a popular place with the kids from school and a few of them were there for lunch. We received lots of looks and comments from them as we ordered our lunch. While we waited I went to the restroom to wash up. When I came out one of the senior girls cornered me saying, "Listen up, bitch! We know what you're doing and you'll stay out of our territory if you know what's good for you."
I trembled in fear as she flicked out a knife, but before anything else could happen, there was an "Eh hem" from behind her. The girl whirled and saw Johnny. I ducked under her arm and ran to him.
"I'm not and never have been your territory, and I'll thank you to leave my fiancée alone."
The girl's face went from surprised, hurt, and shocked, to angry in the few seconds it took for his appearance and words to register.
"I'm way better looking that her. What's she got that I don't?"
"Well ... she's got a pretty sweet personality for one. I think Lisa's better looking too. Also, she's never seen me as a way to get my parent's money."
Her face went red with rage. "Is that so? Well, I can give you a ride you'll never forget."
Johnny's face twisted with disgust. "That's one ride I don't ever want to take"
"Why, you fucking prick! We've all been waiting for you to pick one of us and I'm not going to let little Miss Priss here steal you just because she spread her legs for you first."

Her mouth dropped open. Mine too. "Really, Johnny? You wanted me?"
Johnny gave me a smile that would have melted my heart if he hadn't already had it. "I have for years, Love."
"Oh, Johnny" I whispered and then yelled, "Look out!"
The senior girl gave a shriek of rage and lunged at him with the knife. Johnny spun blocked her thrust and did something that made her scream and fall to the floor with him on her back holding her arm twisted in a painful position behind her.
Some senior guy said, "You fuck! That's my girl friend!" and charged Johnny.
I still want to know, if she had a boyfriend, why was she so hung up on me being with Johnny? Anyway Johnny let her go and danced out of the way. The senior tripped over his girlfriend and went sprawling. Johnny grabbed my hand and pulled me outside. He gave me his phone and said, "Call the police" and then whipped off his belt and looped it around the door handles.
I hit 911 and when the dispatcher came on said, "We're at Burger Queen and this girl and her boyfriend just attacked us with a knife."
"Understood, Miss. We already have units enroute. Stay..."
I didn't hear what she said, because I screamed when this loud crash came from behind me. Johnny jumped back next to me with a "Whoa!"
I turned to see that the boyfriend had crashed into the door. He tried to force it a couple more times and then he grabbed a chair and started to smash the glass. I guess he was so fixated on us, he forgot there were other exits. Others didn't, and they were running out of them.
"Hurry! He's trying to get us!"
"I understand, Miss, just stay inside until the officers arrive."
"No! You don't understand! He's inside trying to get out!"
"Shit!" She cursed. "All units be advised to a possible hostage situation.
A second later, there was like a dozen squad cars roaring into the parking lot, sirens wailing, lights flashing, tires screeching, as the drivers hit the brakes. Johnny pulled me towards them, just as there was a loud crash from behind us. I whirled and screamed again. And suddenly the officers were rushing past us guns drawn and yelling for him to get down.
