My next stop was Phil Sutton's house. I parked down the street and a little across from his place and I had a perfect view of the driveway and the side entrance. It was just a few minutes past noon so I waited and sure enough, he pulled into the drive a few minutes later. I watched as he exited the car and I saw a nice looking woman open the side door and wave to him. That must be Mrs. Sutton. Very interesting. I wondered if she knew what her husband was doing with my wife. For that matter, was my wife the only one of his playthings. Well, that wasn't my concern.

Now that I knew where he lived and that he had a wife, I wondered what I could do to make his life as miserable as he made mine. I had one idea that came from my days as a Sergeant supplying those nasty spies in Intelligence. It seems they were always doing some really neat things with tape recordings and videos and the like. One of the things that I knew how to do was to record a tape onto a CD and then use the CD to make an audio file that could be sent by email and played on any computer. That was fairly easy to do and I decided that I could make a copy of my tape and send it to Mrs. Sutton. All I had to do was find out if she had an email address. Again, there were ways to do that and I knew how to do it. I also decided to send the CD as backup so that she would have both files.

As I drove back to the bar and my home away from home, I planned to do the CDs right away. I wanted to begin my payback as soon as possible.

Once in my little room, I took out my laptop from home and began. When I was in front of a computer, I actually felt quite smart. I could make computers do things that a lot of people couldn't. I began to feel better now that I was ready to strike back. First the audio file and then the CD in the mail. By tomorrow, Mr. Phil Sutton was going to be very unhappy. As I worked, I began to think that maybe I should also plan to call Sally tonight. Maybe. I logged onto the internet and began my search for Mrs. Phil Sutton or Mr. Phil Sutton and their email accounts.

I had a few passwords that I had taken with me when I left the service and I used one of them to hack the accounts. Both had an account with Hotmail and I found the email addresses for both without a lot of trouble. Next, I made a wave file of the recording from last Friday night and uploaded it to my computer. I attached it to a short email to Harriett Sutton with my name and a suggestion that she listened very carefully to the attachment, and saved it. I also attached it to Phil Sutton's email address and saved that as well with a note that his wife would be asking him about it. Both were to be sent from an anonymous account. I wanted to wait, however, until that evening before sending them.

It was just a little past three in the afternoon when I decided to call Sally. I placed the call to her work number and waited. She answered on the third ring with a listless hello. I was surprised since she was usually very bouncy on the phone. She liked getting phone calls, especially from me. But, she didn't know this was from me so maybe that's why she was so solemn.

"Hello Sally. It's the clod."

There was silence on the other end and then a soft sob. No words, nothing. Just the one sob and then nothing. She hadn't hung up. She just didn't say anything. That sort of shook me up and I was a little flustered. Well, I just hung up. No words, nothing. I just hung up. I was stumped. Damn if it didn't break my concentration when she didn't say anything. Why hadn't I remembered that she froze when she was upset? I had to think, not something I was very good at. But I tried. After a furious hour in which I started and stopped ten times to call, I finally gave up. I decided to wait until Sally went home to call her. I needed that much time just to come up with a plan.

I went down to the bar and had a couple of beers and a sandwich to keep the edge off and drove over to check my PO box. Finally, the checks were there: my regular paycheck and my severance check. This would be enough to keep me going for the next three months or so. I drove down to the bank and opened a separate account that Sally didn't know about and deposited my checks. I took enough cash to pay for food and gas and left the rest in the bank. That's all I needed for now. I didn't own any credit cards so I had no bills to worry about. My life was always simple, to match my IQ.

I waited until almost 7:00 that evening and then I sent both emails out. I made sure that they were delivered and then shut my computer down. I went down to the bar and used the bar phone to call Sally at home. This time I was ready.

"Hello? This is the Overton residence." "Hello Sally. It's me, Jimmy."

"Hello Jimmy. I'm glad you called finally. Are you OK? Are you safe and do you have enough to eat?"

"Yes, Sally, I'm fine. I have my truck and my clothes and I have my last check and the vacation and sick leave check so I'm OK."

"Mom said you stopped and told her about me and Mr. Sutton. I wish you hadn't done that. She's very mad at me and it's not good for her to be so mad."

"I know but I didn't want her to think I walked out for no good reason. I like Meg and I didn't want her to think bad about me. I'm sorry she's mad at you but so am I."

Silence. This time I was ready for it.

"I think we have to talk Sally. There are some things we need to settle on before we get divorced. I want to talk about Meg and the house and some other things. When can we get together and talk?"

Still, silence. This time I just waited. Sally would speak when she was ready. I had known her long enough to know that this happened when she was upset or confused. She just went silent. So, I waited.

After about 90 seconds of silence, Sally finally spoke.

"You can come by anytime you want to. Mom is usually asleep by 7:00 or 7:30 so anytime after that is good. Or maybe you want me to take some time off and meet you somewhere during the day? I can do whatever you want. It's up to you, Jimmy."

I heard the little sob again but this time she tried to cover the mouthpiece so I wouldn't hear it. But I did.

"I'll be by tomorrow night then. We should talk sooner rather than later."

With that I snickered since that was what we always said copying Bill Clinton. This was the first time it seemed appropriate though. I decided to hang up then so that nothing more could be said. I knew that I wanted to yell and scream but I knew that I shouldn't.

I wondered if my emails had been received yet. I couldn't be sure without actually logging back on and checking the server for their accounts. That would be harder to do and would leave me open to backtracking. While I didn't think Phil or his wife could even know what that was, my spy buddies had said things like that often enough that I had picked up a little paranoia on my own. Well, I would certainly find out later. Since I had a couple of hours to kill, I went back to the bar and sat down. A few beers couldn't hurt.

At about 10:00 that evening, I decided to make a phone call to Mrs. Sutton. I wondered what I would hear when I called. I slipped into the phone booth and made the call. She answered on the first ring.

"Hello? Who's this?"

"Hello Mrs. Sutton. I'm the one that sent you an email earlier today? Have you had a chance to listen to the attachment?"

"Of course I listened. How do I know that it's really Phil and some woman named Sally? It could be a fake."

"Sally is my wife and I assure you it's not a fake. I haven't been back home since I heard that tape. I recorded them in my house in my bed on Sunday night. Sally works for your husband. He's her boss."

"That son of a bitch. I knew he was screwing someone but I didn't know who. Now I do. What do you want?"

"I don't want anything from you. I may do something to Phil, but I don't know what yet. Are you going to divorce his ass?"

"I don't know. We've been married thirteen years and we have two little girls. I don't know if I can do that to them."

"Well, he didn't seem to think about them while he was screwing my wife. What you do is up to you but I'll do what I have to. Goodbye."

"Wait, I'm... "

I hung up. What she did now was her business. I would do what I wanted to do without any hang-ups now since she knew the truth about her dip shit husband.

The next day came early for me since I found it hard to sleep that night. All I could do was think about that tape and the words that Sally said and the hurt that it caused. I guess I loved her. If I didn't, I wouldn't care as much as I did. The pain in my chest was so intense I thought I was having a heart attack. But aspirin couldn't cure this pain.

I put in a call to the plant and spoke with Terry. She yelled at me and told me that I was a pain in her butt. It seems Mr. Johnson, the plant manager wanted to talk to me and she couldn't give him a phone number or an address. Just a stupid PO Box. I let her yell for a few minutes before finally giving her this number. The one at the bar. I said I would wait here for the next ten minutes for him to call and then he could take his chances. She hung up right away after telling me to wait. I waited. Seems I was doing a lot of that lately. Just as I was about to crawl out of the booth, the phone rang. It was Paul Johnson.

"Damn it Jimmy. Why didn't you come talk to me before you quit? I want to talk to you as soon as possible. Where are you?"

"I'm living at a bar here in town for the time being Paul. I'm a bouncer in the evenings for the rent. What did you want to talk about?"

"Where can I meet you? We need to talk in private. Give me a time and place."

I thought about it and decided that I had nothing to lose talking to him so I gave him the name of the bar and said to meet me here after work. I said I would be here from five until 8:00 that evening. He agreed and said he would see me then.

At 5:30 Paul Johnson walked into the bar, stopped to look around and then, spotting me, walked over to the booth I was in and slid in across from me. He looked agitated and a little angry but I didn't think it was me he was mad at.

"Hello Paul. You look a little on the bent-out-of-shape side. What's eating you?"

"Damn it Jimmy. Why in the hell did you just up and quit. You know I've had my eye on you for some time and I promised you that there was a promotion coming up. Why did you quit without talking to me? Was it the money? Hell, I'll promote you right now and put you somewhere until the real job opens up. Come on. Talk to me."

Paul Johnson was a standup guy and he had indeed promised me something in the near future. I wasn't all that interested until he told what he had in mind but he was always more than fair with me and I felt bad about not letting him know what was up. Well, now was the time to cut bait or run.

"Paul, I need to tell you something and I need you to listen to me before you say anything. Can you do that? Can you hold it till I'm done talking?"

"Hell yes. Just start talking damn it!"

"OK. Here goes. I have proof that Sally and Phil Sutton have been shacking up. The last time I caught them in my own house and in my own bed. That's when I knew I couldn't go back to work without killing that son of a bitch. So I quit. I told Sally that I knew about them and I told her I was moving out and we were going to get a divorce. I haven't even talked to her since except to make a time to meet with her tonight. That's when she gets her say. But there is no way I can get past what they did and what Sally said to him about me. It's over Paul. It's fucking over!"

Paul just took it all in and kept his mouth shut just like he promised. He just sat there after I finished talking and I could almost see the wheels turning inside his head. I gave him the same courtesy and kept my mouth shut till he was ready. It didn't take too long.

"First, you have to know that I'm so damn sorry. I really like Sally and you know how I feel about you. But, OK. Here's the deal. Jimmy, the man fucked up. He most surely did. He is Sally's boss and what he did is enough to get him fired. If you have any proof, I'll need it when I fire him. That's the first thing. Sally will have to be fired too, since she was involved. I can maybe do something about that but right now, she is fired."

"I have proof and for your information, I let both him and his wife hear the proof. I talked to his wife earlier and she is not sure what she is going to do to his ass. I hope she divorces him and takes all he's got but that's up to her. And as far as firing Sally, I hope you don't cause she needs the money to take care of her mother. I'm giving her the fucking house since she shit in it with that asshole."

"Don't be too hasty Jimmy. Maybe we can work something out. I would be willing to support a small lawsuit by you against the company. They're the ones that put this dip shit here in my plant. I can make management think that if they let me handle it privately, I can get us off lightly and settle out of court for you to the tune of a lot of money. It would be something like alienation of affections or such. Anything. Maybe about a quarter mil or something like that? The company would jump at a quarter of a mil. You could use the money for the divorce and for Sally's mom. I know you really like her."

Well hell. I would never have thought of something like that. Sometimes it's good to have smart friends. Paul was that all right. I would do whatever he recommended there. I told him so and he said that it was settled.

"Now, why in the world would Sally take up with Phil Sutton? He's a prick and a jerk and he isn't half the man you are. What was her reason?"

"I don't know. I haven't asked her yet. I told you I hadn't talked to her yet. I intend to ask her tonight. Maybe she can tell me, even if it won't make any difference."

"Well, you talk to her and let me take care of the rest. I'll put together an offer from the company and I'll fire Phil's ass tomorrow if you give me the proof you have. Do you have it here?"

"Yeah. Have a beer while I go get it."

With that, I went back to my wonderful little room and got the tape that I had made. I still had the CD and the original file on my computer so I could let this one go. I took it back down, gave it to Paul and watched him go. Maybe what he was going to do would give me back some self respect. At least, that smug son of a bitch would be long gone from there. Let Sally give him comfort when he was fired and his wife kicked his ass out.

Well, I had about another hour or so to kill before I was due at Sally's place. Funny how it no longer was 'my house.' It was just Sally's place. Maybe I was already moving on as they say. I never understood that. How can you move on? On to what? Well, I had another beer to help me think about that. But I didn't intend to get drunk. I wanted a clear head when I spoke to Sally tonight. So at about 8:30 or so, I switched to coffee, went up and washed my face and neck and put on a clean shirt. It was wrinkled like hell but it was clean. I never wore any crap so I would just smell like soap.

At 9:31 exactly, I pulled into my driveway and stopped. I just stared at the home that I once loved. It was my first house and it was paid for. That gave me a feeling of accomplishment. Daddy had helped me pay for it and I thanked him every day of my life. He was a good man but he was destroyed by mom's sickness. She had never been anything but a good woman. Not like Sally.

I was reluctant to get out of the car but I had no choice. I had to do this. I walked up to the front door and rang the bell. Sally answered, looking surprised.

"Jimmy? Why are you ringing the bell? You live here for God's sakes. Come in!"

Howie Returns to PennsylvaniaChapter 7

"It seems that I end up in the hospital with something major a lot. I get forced to think about things," he said. "There are better ways to do that. Hopefully, you won't keep this up or your mother is going to be old before her time," she said. "Nobody loves you like your mother. I never thought that I worried you. I feel much safer in Oklahoma than Baltimore," he said. "I feel much safer when you are home with me in Pennsylvania," she said. "Mom, I think I am going to law...

Howie Returns to PennsylvaniaChapter 5

Howie decided to go the southern route. He liked the drive through the Virginia mountains. And he wanted to show Brooke where the Cherokee lived before they were marched to Oklahoma. Howie put a cover over the truck bed. With a cover over the bed, he didn't worry about a place to sleep. The cover was level with the top of the truck cab. Brooke had never been to the University of Virginia or been through the Roanoke Valley. And she wanted to see Charlottesville, where Dorothy was going to...

Howie RandolphChapter 6

His mother said, "Howie, I am worried about you. You are getting mixed up with too many older women. I am sorry that Wanda moved and you had problems with Becky. You are juggling to many things for a boy your age." "My luck with women for the long term is not good," he said. When Howie started back to school and the new semester, he noticed that Becky wasn't in any of his classes. There usually was only one section of Advanced Placement in a subject area, so Howie was surprised that...

Howie RandolphChapter 7

It was called the Pledge Leadout. At the first of the dance, the room was darkened. Each pledge came to the spotlight. The girl and her escort were introduced. "Howie, this is the A group. I wouldn't have been asked to join any group before I worked out with you and lost weight. It helps that mom has a high level job at this college too." Howie responded, "You dieted and you exercised. You did it and you deserve the credit. And we are going to have a good time tonight." "Thank you...

Howie was given two years of science credits for his paramedic license. He entered as a freshman. When he signed up for the fourth course, his status changed from special to full time student. Wednesday, he went to the Phi Gamma Delta house for his pledging ceremony. His father was invited and pinned Howie's pledge star on him. Howie listened to the words of the pledge ceremony. Dad was right. It is very much like the Kiowa. Of course, the Kiowa never spoke of Robert E. Lee or the southern...

Howie Returns to PennsylvaniaChapter 4

Howie was up at daybreak and out running on the road. By seven he was in the Fitness Center. Brooke joined him everyday there. She used the Nordic track. Brooke studied after she exercised. Howie only had one final, and that was in Investments. He had an A average as did Dorothy. They both didn't need to study. Howie was so interested, because of the Kiowa trust, that he went way beyond what was required. Dorothy hung on for the ride. Dorothy was one of the few women in the business major...

Howie got home about four a.m. on New Year's Day. He slept until nine then ate breakfast with his parents and children. After they ate, Howie washed dishes with his mother. She asked, "How was the dance?" "Very fancy, but I wasn't able to dance much. It is a high society club. Did you have a good time on the cruise and at the country club?" he asked. "The cruise was wonderful and very romantic. I recommend it for any old married couple. Actually the country club was very nice. They...

“Her name was Kelly Simpson. She was a producer for a TV series that was shown on three different cable networks,” the tiny redhead informed Sally Howe. “Maze, how did you make the ID?” I asked. “Her ID card,” Sally said pointing to it hanging from her jacket. “I’m surprised you missed your chance to say ‘elementary, my dear Watson’,” I said. You do that at least once every shift. “The Shift has just started Marion,” Sally said. “She is such a smart ass,” I said to Maze the forensic lab...

Howie Returns to the KiowaChapter 2

The construction equipment dealership that Tall Grass had purchased in Amarillo found a used drill rig for him. He purchased the drill rig and arranged for the dealership to deliver the drill rig and a backhoe with a front-end loader to his home site. Tall Grass decided to wait at Dolph's for items to be delivered. Tall Grass planned to spend two weeks in the Western Land. He wanted to drill water wells and do the excavation for the house. He hired the Kiowa, who made the adobe bricks for...

Howe Watson 4qs

After we booked the snot nosed kids, I was thoroughly disgusted with humanity. I just wanted to go home. I had one thing I had to do first. I had to stop off at Mary Ann’s apartment. I needed my Baby Sparrow fix. I used my key to gain entry to Mary Anne’s apartment. Her car was missing from her assigned space in the lot. I went inside her place to snoop and to make sure Sparrow wasn’t there alone. I admit it was terrible thing to think, but it was a thing we had investigated before. Hell she...

Roundabout

RoundaboutInhaling deeply and sharply, I could feel you behind me before you even touched me, like you were giving off some sort of electrical charge. I held that breath in anticipation of your touch, my whole body tingling, blood rushing straight to my nipples and pussy. As I turn to look at you, you gently but firmly put one hand to the back of my head to hold it straight, and one to the small of my back. Slowly you run your fingers down my long, wavy hair till you reach my waist. A shiver of...

Summer Walkabout

As i lay on my bed looking out of the window i counted down the minutes until you arrived. I had the day planned and after being apart in such a long time i had decided to make the most of the short time together. I wanted to take the pure chance that i was about to be given. Loud noises of passing cars flew past the window and i was surprised t notice how unbeliveable hot i had become. i Jumped in to the shower glancing at the time to make sure i didnt miss your arrival. As the water bounced...

Swingers Roundabouts

Hiya I have never really considered myself as one of those people that is happy enough to lay back and ‘think of england’ during coital relations. On the contrary, I also try not to put the blame of an ‘average sexual encounter’ on just one side. It is an experience to be shared on both sides, each person should do what they can to both enhance the others pleasure and also to make it obvious that they themselves are actually ‘enjoying’ something. It shouldn’t be a guessing game, with all the...

An Unusual Walkabout

An Unusual Walkabout By - Anna Feie I work out of the home most weeks that suit me just fine. I can wear what I like, act like I want to and in simply English - live my life as I want without public scrutiny. All we, guys and gals who are transgendered (hate that word) is acceptance. Enough of the soapbox. Some years ago, I had the opportunity to go ?walkabout? so I went. I have a great deal of experience being one of the ancient crones to still walk this realm, aka Earth. I...

Layabout

Terry and Jo, a female friend he met three weeks before, sat in the Hogs Breath Saloon watching the tourists. He was more or less looking for his next pussy and she was making fun of the sluts and dumb cocks as she called the young and not so young drinking and trying to hook up. It was still late mid afternoon so no one was totally smashed as they would be later in the evening but several of them had a good load on. Jo snickered and said, “Wonder how many of these sluts get the shit fucked...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 2

The paddleboat ride along the Darling was interesting, but noisy. I wondered whether folks brought unruly children in the hope that they’d fall in, but this was too far upstream to think they’d be eaten by a giant cod, like Ken in “Love Serenade.” But that took place far downstream, along the Murray. And it was just an idle fantasy. (The Murray Cod, which can grow to about two metres, is not really a cod in a Northern Hemisphere sense, but a giant freshwater perch.) But it was interesting to...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 4 Cameron Corner to Epsilon Station

I topped off my diesel before leaving the hotel. I didn’t want to be stranded short of Cameron Corner. [Before I go further, I ought to remark that there are five places where there are surveyed right-angle state border intersections. Cameron Corner, surveyed by John Cameron (NSW) and George Watson (Queensland) in 1879, where the east-west border hits South Australia; Haddon Corner, where South Australia ends in the Channel Country; Poeppel Corner, where South Australia, Queensland and the...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 5 Epsilon Station to Nockatunga Waterhole

The next day I had breakfast at 6 with several hands and then read in the morning sun for a few hours. Then, in mid-morning, I asked the “girl” about laundry. “You gibbit me, I do good job.” “That’s not necessary. I can do it.” “Not job for nungungi.” “I’m not nungungi.” “Nungungi dad’s nungungi.” I had clearly lost the argument. I appealed to my hostess. “Not a chance,” she said. “Better give in graciously.” So I did. Underwear, shirts, pants, socks. It was a decent-sized...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 6 Nockatunga Waterhole

We had some tea and a few quandong. The dried nut tasted like a rather tart apricot. We were too far west for bunya or macadamia. Joshua told me that they had had little rain, but that the waterhole seemed happy. I told him of my trip, especially the part from Cameron Corner to Epsilon Station, to Innamincka and my disappointment, and to here. A woman offered a bark dish of witchetty grubs and I took one. I expressed surprise at finding them, but Joshua said the women were good at finding...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 8 Nockatunga Waterhole Cunnamulla

Before noon the next day, Cook told me there would be visitors today. About an hour later, there was a good deal of noise and two ATVs popped over the bank of the waterhole and “parked” near the humpies. There was a crowd around them in a moment, so I hung back. Then one of the riders called out “Mornin’, Gordy!” and I realized these were two of the hands from Epsilon Station. “G’day. I thought you told me it was a three-day-walk!” “It is ... if you walk. Graham let us borrow ATVs from time...

I called Patrick after dinner. After telling him about my trip, I told him that I’d visited CACH and met Wilgar. “I’ve heard of him. He’s an elder.” “So he said.” “You’re aware of the CACH’s role?” “No, but you’re going to tell me.” “OK. Back in 1999 the Queensland Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy and Development reported that Cunnamulla’s indigenous community suffered from a high level of domestic violence stemming from an over reliance by the police and the...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 10 Narrabri and Armidale

I made good time in the morning, but Narrabri was nothing like what I recalled. Thirty years had totally altered the town. There were many new buildings and there was an atmosphere that I didn’t recall sensing. When I registered at the Crossroads Hotel, I realized that the park, the CSIRO and the agricultural wealth had totally altered the ambience of what had been a small town. A pamphlet proclaimed Narrabi “the second richest agricultural shire in Australia.” A glance at the women drinking...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 11 Port Macquarie

I took my time in the morning, as I intended to stop at Apsley Falls, and that meant waiting till the sun was over the mountains. It took just about an hour to get to the turnoff, a bit east of Walcha. Apsley Falls are the first falls in a succession of dramatic drops in an area that has some of the most remarkable scenery in Eastern Australia. The first drop of the falls is about 65 metres in depth, and the second, which is about 800 metres further on, plummets 58 metres metres to the...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 12 Hastings River

The Hastings River starts high on the Great Dividing Range running east down through the picturesque Hastings Valley, through unique river towns such as Mount Seaview, Ellenborough and Wauchope before entering the Pacific Ocean at Port Macquarie. Fishing is popular particularly from October through to June each year with peaks during Christmas and Easter. The river has a wide range of fishing opportunities from freshwater bass and catfish in the upper reaches to estuarine species such as...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 13 Leaving Port Macquarie

I felt much better as I walked back to Settlers Inn. Much better. I though of just where I was. Northern coast of New South Wales. I had old friends nearby. Well, only a few hours away. I got my phone book and sat down. There they were: Evans. South Grafton. And a phone number. I tried to call. Busy! What nerve! I’d shower, dress and try again before going out for a drink. But first I looked at the directory beside the phone in my room. There was a LandRover dealer here in Port Macquarie! My...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 15 Grafton II

“By the way, what was the flooding like three years ago?” I asked Evans. “A lot of rain. The upstream tributaries in the Range really got hit. And that meant there was really a lot of water in the Clarence. They talked about the Great Flood – well, we nearly beat the record. But our house is over eight metres above high water, so we weren’t in danger.” At nearby Lilydale, the Clarence River peaked at 20.94 metres at midnight on Monday, 28 January 2013. That was close to the 1954 flood...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 17 Grafton IV

The next morning we were up and breakfasting well before eight. “It’ll take us two hours to get near the islands and the sugar cane farms,” Evans explained. “There are a few areas I like to fish, about five kilometres up from the mouth. You can look at a chart when we’re on board Rainbow. It looks like a decent day for bream or flathead. We’ll keep some for dinner and release the others.” I’d phoned Patrick when we got back to South Grafton. He’d be happy to help Olwen in any way he could....

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 18 Grafton to Moree

After dinner I called Patrick and spoke to Rachel about invading her parents. With her encouragement, I called Chaz in Canberra. He was quite enthusiastic about a visit and wanted to know when I’d arrive. “It’s Monday. I won’t leave before Wednesday. I thought I’d cross the Dividing Range, look at the MacIntyre in Inverell and stop in Moree. Then through Narrabin to Dubbo and from there to Canberra. But I want to stop in Cowra. I was there when I was a grad student, but the woman I was with...

I was already feeling hungry when I passed through Narrabri, but I kept on till I got to Pilliga National Park. I stopped at the posting of the Park Service to see where the archaeological remains were. I lost both my appetite for food and for archaeology when I read: Deep in the vast Pilliga Forest lies exquisite Dandry Gorge and the magnificent Sculptures in the Scrub. I walked to the front door and knocked. Michiko opened the door – petit, wearing a blouse and dark slacks, smiling. “You’re here!” “Obviously.” “Welcome to our home.” I gave her a hug. “You seem well.” “I’m OK. It’s been difficult. But the past week or so have seen improvement.” “Charles will be home in about an hour. Perhaps less, as it’s Friday and as he knew you would be arriving. Let me show you to your room.” “Should I get my stuff?” “No. Charles will want to help. It will make...

Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 21 Canberra II

I looked at my notes. They were neither orderly nor compact. But they were terse and they represented, in some way, my thoughts. return to work find a place to live (do P&R want the house?) make friend[s?]? retire in eighteen months do something else (entomology; school; write;?) other? It didn’t look like much. Six points. The first and fourth were straightforward. The second was tough. Or was it? Did I want to relocate for two years or five or... ? Gordy on WalkaboutChapter 22 Kiama

I registered, thanked Cook and went for a walk across the bridge to the more fashionable side of Batemans Bay. I was relatively unimpressed. The cafes and windows looked like those near the Opera House, but Cook had been right: there were certainly more seniors than I’d have expected. I was too young to be retired. Or at least I thought so. I thought of having a drink prior to walking back, but picked the wrong venue. I wearing neither jacket nor tie. I shrugged to myself and walked back to...

I registered, thanked Cook and went for a walk across the bridge to the more fashionable side of Batemans Bay. I walked back to the hotel, went to my room and took a long shower. I got dressed and went down for lunch on the terrace. I had a salad and a beer and went back to my room. I must have slept as it was 15:00 only a minute or two later. I washed my face and went back to the terrace. I took volume II of Sturt’s Narrative with me. I was well into 1846 when a voice asked “How was the...

I pulled my list from my pocket. “While I was with your parents [nodding to Rachel], I tried to put together a list. But it wasn’t very long. Dinner with Winnie was a pleasure. We chatted about my wanderings and about the whole notion of loss and search; it was serious, but constructive. “I understand,” Winnie said. “I may not have been devastated when I became a widow. But it was sudden and unexpected. And it changed my life.” “Ten years ago.” “Over a dozen. Time flies.” “‘Tempus edax rerum‘ is what Ovid wrote in Metamorphoses [xv: 234]. ‘Time destroys all.’ Did you ever see Golding’s translation?” “What?” “Arthur Golding. A...

Everything went smoother than I had expected. The closing was painless as the total came to less than Allianz had paid out. It turned out that Rachel had an acquaintance who worked at a “vintage clothing” shop in a mall on Castlereagh. Rachel escorted a “buyer” to Pennant Hills, where she combed through the closets and drawers and emerged with an SUV-full of clothing, coats, bags and footwear and gave Rachel a sizeable cheque. She expressed interest in the jewelry, but that (Rachel reported)...

Matchmaking Trap Part 2 Turnabouts Fair Play

Roberta knew of but one way left to get Chad to display any latent dominant tendencies- she had to get him angry enough to act on them. If she broke her promise not to tell Deanna, Chad would get mad at her, and probably retaliate. That's what she wanted, and so, sure enough, she went over to Deanna's, with some other info on her mind. She knew, although Chad didn't, that Deanna was cheating on him with her ex-boyfriend Donny- a hyper-sensitive, love-struck, pansy, lame excuse for a man, if...

The part of the story before this one is under Bisexual stories by mistake! You really should read that one first. Case 1: The Sexy Turnabout A flash of lightning illuminates the dark room and gives life to the shadows of statues lining the extended hallway of what appears to be in a large mansion. The sound of heavy breathing fills the air along with the pitter patter of heavy foot steps. "M-must keep g-going..." A male voice pants. "Ergh...my heart..." "Heh heh heh..." Another voice cackles. "W-who are you?" The man cries out wearily. Another flash of lightning followed by the clap of thunder. "W-why...
