January 30, 1983, McKinley, Ohio

“Well isn’t THIS a fine mess,” I sighed.

“I didn’t mean to depress you,” Clarissa said. “I was trying to make a point.”

“Besides the fact that we’re in love, soulmates, and you’re a lesbian, which kind of makes it all moot?”

“Oh, it most definitely does NOT! For someone who has been with at least half-a-dozen girls by my count, you sure have this really stupid mindset about sex! If it was so damned meaningful, you wouldn’t be so free with it! Get your head out of your butt or out of the clouds, or wherever it is, and take a reality check!”

“I thought that’s what I was doing!”

“Not if you don’t understand that our love and intimacy isn’t moot just because we don’t have sex! And just because you have sex with someone doesn’t mean you’re intimate!”

“They are two different things,” I said slowly, stroking my thickening beard. “And I keep equating them.”

“That’s what I don’t understand, Petrovich! You have casual sex, but still believe sex is always intimate!”

I laughed, “Who have you been talking to?”

“I might have asked Doctor Blahnik if she knew something about how Russian friends speak to each other. I heard Tasha use the ‘cutesy’ name for you when she was here the first time, and that didn’t feel right.

“Mishka?”

“Yes.”

“That means something like ‘Mikey’. Mischa, without the ‘k’, is the equivalent of ‘Mike’. Tasha uses the first one. My grandfather and his friends use the patronymics with each other!”

“So, Petrovich,” Clarissa said with a smile, “back to the three things. There are other people you love and are intimate with. And I do NOT mean this in a gross way, but your mom is a perfect example of someone you love deeply and with whom you have a very intimate relationship.”

I nodded slowly, “OK, I can see that, yes.”

“And other girls you’ve been with, have you been intimate with them? Or loved them? Or did you just have sex?”

“I suppose there’s a mix. There are a couple of girls with whom it was ‘just sex’.”

“And you don’t feel bad about them, do you?”

Emmy and Mindy were the obvious ones, and I didn’t feel bad about them at all. Emmy and I had stopped seeing each other because of her dad, not because either of us really wanted to stop dating. And Mindy, well, if I was honest, she was a lot of fun and I certainly wouldn’t mind being with her again. But those two situations were VERY different from what had happened with Kristin.

“No, I don’t think I do. But I knew them and talked to them. With Kristin, we went from ‘hello’ to ‘Oh, God!’ in just over twelve hours, and it could have been an hour if it weren’t for curfew.”

Clarissa laughed, “That good, huh?”

“I’ll be happy to demonstrate!”

“You just keep that thing safely tucked into your pants, Mister!”

“And our conversation yesterday?” I asked. “Suddenly, it’s way more relevant than I realized.”

“Because you’re exceedingly, disastrously clueless at times! I had to explain it all to you! I swear for someone who’s brilliant, you can be a real dope at times!”

“I know,” I agreed. “So what do I do about Kristin?”

“What do you WANT to do about Kristin? If I may be indelicate, do you want to fuck her again?”

“At the risk of sounding even more stupid than usual, I did, right up until I discovered she was a virgin.”

“Yep, that’s more stupid than usual,” Clarissa said, shaking her head. “I could see the logic of saying ‘no’ and stopping because she was a virgin, but once the deed is done that no longer makes sense. Didn’t you tell me you had no problem with that?”

“Yeah, and I conveniently channeled my dad when I told you I felt I’d taken something that didn’t belong to me.”

“I sense some larger issue there.”

“As my most intimate friend, I’ll share, because I think I need to in order to explain myself. My mom wasn’t a virgin when she met my dad, and he reacted as if her first lover had taken something which my dad felt rightfully belonged to him. You know, as if it was his property. It really bugs me that I had that same feeling, only in reverse.”

“Did you feel that way about Sandy?”

“No.”

“You are a strange man, Petrovich!” Clarissa said, shaking her head. “I know Jocelyn was a virgin from what you said. Did you feel that way about her?”

“No, of course not. I think my problem is HOW this happened. I seduced her because I could, and for no other reason.”

“She has as much responsibility for her actions as you do for yours. And I KNOW you don’t think having sex creates a permanent relationship!”

“No, I don’t. But she might! I know girls who have that attitude.”

“Tasha, obviously.”

“Obviously. But I know that, and I act appropriately in accordance with that knowledge.”

“Did Kristin extract any promises from you? Insist on a profession of love?”

“No, but I’m not sure she was thinking straight.”

Clarissa laughed softly, “Because horny teenagers always think rationally about having sex?”

“Well, no,” I chuckled. “Can I ask you a question?”

Clarissa smirked, “Yes, I’m a horny teenager! But my fingers work as well as your hand did before your first time.”

“So why not?”

“Because I’m not ready. Some day in the not TOO distant future, I’ll meet her, and, as you said the other day, stick my tongue deep inside her and she’ll do the same for me and I won’t be a virgin any more.”

“You know, I hadn’t thought about what not being a virgin meant in that context!”

“And Robby and Lee?”

“You’d have to ask them and I’m not sure I want to know THOSE details!”

Clarissa shook her head, “You’re going to be a doctor, for Pete’s sake! You may not WANT to think about it, but you’re going to have to think about it if you want to care for your patients the way you say you do. And who would be better to talk to then a couple of your best guy friends who won’t get all freaked out by you asking general questions. Heck, knowing those two, they won’t care if you ask specific questions!”

“Probably. But how do I talk to Kristin about this?”

“One word at a time, with appropriate pauses and inflections to indicate punctuation.”

“Ha, ha! Very funny!”

“I’m actually serious. Just talk with her.”

“And say what? ‘Hey, sorry about taking your virginity without understanding what it might mean.’?”

“Don’t be daft! If you DO want to hurt her, that would be a great way to do it! Do NOT start with an apology!”

“What about something along the lines of saying we should have talked first?”

“Try just asking her how she feels, you idiot! Find her later today, or tomorrow, and say ‘Hi, how are you doing?’ Just be your normal, friendly self. Then take it from there. I can’t write a script for you because I have no more idea what she’s thinking than you do! And quit obsessing!”

“I am a complete idiot at times,” I sighed. “And yes, I am obsessing. I’ll do it your way.”

“It’s about time!”

“I also need to talk to Fran about Angie, and I should do that before the day is out. Maybe tonight when we write up our lab reports.”

“If you want my opinion, and I’m assuming you do, but if you don’t, you’re going to get it anyway — that’s your bigger concern.”

“I know. But there’s a bigger one.”

“What?”

I smiled, “And you call ME clueless!”

“Us?”

“Us.”

“Deal with Angie and Kristin first,” Clarissa said. “Our conversation is going to be weird enough without you being preoccupied.”

“And it wasn’t weird before?” I asked.

“It’s going to get weirder, I think.”

“Yeah.”

We got up off the bed, hugged, and went out of my room. I knew I needed to spend some time with Sandy, and decided I needed to do that before I went to talk to Kristin, as I had no idea how long that conversation would take. I went out to the common area of the floor and didn’t see our friends, so I walked down the hall to Sandy’s room and knocked. When she opened the door, I took her hand, led her back to my room and sat down on the couch.

“Have fun?” she asked.

“You’re not jealous?” I asked.

Sandy laughed, “Of what? You and Sophia get together, and I know you have girls back home! We agreed this is just about enjoying each other’s physical attention and having someone warm in our beds, right?”

“Yes.”

“So, no, I’m not jealous. Contemplating the ways I could torture and kill Dean Parker because I can’t sleep over, but not jealous!”

“Four weeks from tomorrow,” I sighed. “I’m really sorry. I miss having you in my bed.”

“And I miss being in your bed! And speaking of that, are we going to talk or fuck?”

“I’d prefer to talk,” I replied.

“Uh-oh,” Sandy said.

“Trust me, it isn’t about you, and I’m not trying to send any subtle message to you.”

“That thing with Angie is bugging you, isn’t it?” Sandy asked.

“That’s part of it,” I replied. “I’m going to talk to Fran tonight to see if I can get some insights. I’m not sure I should go directly to Angie without doing that.”

“Don’t let it drag too long,” Sandy said. “She may be waiting for you to come talk to her.”

“I’m not sure about that,” I said. “She didn’t go to church this morning.”

“Did you go knock on her door?”

“No. I didn’t want a confrontation or to upset her.”

“You don’t know much about girls, do you?”

“Obviously not. What did I miss now?”

“She may have wanted you to come after her.”

“After giving me grief about Kristin?”

“I don’t know for sure, but I’d say she’s jealous and feeling like you cheated on her.”

“Uhm, what about you and me?”

“She knew about it and approved, in advance, right?”

“«Дерьмо»,” I sighed. “I hadn’t thought about it that way. I felt it was more like she was saying I could do what I wanted and if we ever got together, what happened before wouldn’t matter. I guess I thought that was a general statement, not specifically about you.”

“I’m safe, Mike! Angie knows all I want is a good fucking and a warm bed! Kristin is a threat! So is Tasha, but the entire world knows you two aren’t sleeping together.”

“Except her dad,” I groused.

“I think you’re right in that his real concern is that Tasha’s little sister is having sex, not that he really thinks Tasha is.”

“Probably. I suppose I’ll find out more when I go home next weekend and can speak with Tasha privately.”

“He’ll let you take her out?”

“I’ll just take her out to dinner after Vespers at a diner close to the church, then take her home. Tasha won’t be happy, but it’ll show her dad I respect him. And her.”

“I just can’t imagine living under someone’s thumb that way,” Sandy said. “It would be stifling.”

“A lot of it is cultural,” I said. “Normally, you would expect someone who was as conservative as Tasha is to be meek and mild, but she’s Russian! And Russian women are NOT meek and mild!”

“The evangelical fundamentalist girls I knew back home who were under that kind of control would never think to talk back to their dad the way you said Tasha did. They’d be totally mortified.”

“Fortunately, I haven’t had much interaction with evangelical fundamentalists. Jocelyn was Lutheran, and Dale wasn’t religious. Even April wasn’t a fundamentalist, even though she objected to anything that was ‘too Catholic’.”

“Back to Angie, you agree with me?”

“I do. But I still think I need to talk to Fran before I talk to Angie.”

“Are you and Kristin going to be a thing? Do I have to share?”

“I honestly don’t know. It’s actually the thing with Kristin that has us sitting on the couch instead of being in bed.”

“Second thoughts?”

“Third and fourth, I think.”

“What’s the big deal? She came to you, right? No different from what I did.”

“It’s more complicated than that,” I said. “It’s difficult to discuss without violating confidences. But I’m not sure I did the right thing.”

“Using your guitar to get laid like every lead singer of every band ever in the history of the world?” Sandy laughed. “The guys in my High School who were in a band could have banged half the student body! All of it if they were bi!”

“Including you?”

“I went to a concert once and the guy had a voice not all that different from yours. If he’d shown the slightest bit of interest, he’d probably have had me years before you did. But he had his pick of the hottest girls in the class!”

“I think he missed out on something special,” I said.

“That’s sweet of you to say,” she said softly, then leaned over and kissed my cheek.

“Even if it’s a stereotype, should I have done it? I feel as if I manipulated her.”

“Maybe because you did.”

“Yes.”

“But she’s an adult and could have said ‘no’ if she’d wanted.”

“Could you have? I mean back in High School?”

“Uh, maybe you have a point. Kind of like the guy who tells a girl he loves her to get her into bed when he really doesn’t.”

“I need to talk to her.”

“And Angie. I get the feeling you need to resolve those two things before you’re going to want to fool around again.”

“Sorry.”

“Mike, I totally understand. The last thing I want is to mess things up between us before we’re both ready to stop. A few days without it won’t kill me.”

“I appreciate it.”

“Go talk to whoever you need to talk to.”

I kissed her softly, and we got up and walked down the hall, with Sandy heading to her room and me going to Kristin’s. I knocked on the door and Kristin opened it.

“Hi,” I said.

“Hi!” Kristin gushed. “Want to come in? I have more cookies and there’s hot water for cocoa.”

“Sure.”

I stepped inside and saw her roommate was gone, so we’d have some privacy. She poured two packets of hot cocoa mix into mugs, added hot water, and put coffee stirrers in them. She handed me a mug and then opened the tin of cookies. I stirred my cocoa, then took a cookie.

“How are you?” I asked.

She smiled ruefully, “You were right. I feel like someone took a cheese grater to my insides. You’re kind of big and I obviously still had my cherry.”

“Sorry,” I said.

“You made me feel really, really good! Don’t apologize. It’s just a bit uncomfortable now, but I guess that’s normal.”

“As long as you’re OK.”

“It was nice of you to come check on me.”

“I was a bit worried about you.”

“You mean because it was my first time?”

“Yes. And because of how it happened.”

“Isn’t that what you wanted? I mean, you spent the entire time singing to me and making eyes at me. It was like you were asking me to have sex with you!”

“I was, but I’m concerned that I manipulated you.”

“Was I your first?” she asked, taking a sip of her cocoa.

I almost put my foot right into my mouth by speaking before thinking and was glad I realized she meant my first seduction, not that I was a virgin.

“Yes, and I guess that’s why I feel weird about it.”

“So you have your first groupie and it bothers you?” she laughed.

“Is that what you are?”

“I think that’s what you’re worried about.”

“I was seriously afraid I might have hurt you in some way. That I hadn’t properly thought through what I was doing and what it might mean.”

“You want to know why I did it?”

“I guess so, yes.”

“About halfway through your first set, I realized I was excited by your attention, and as you kept singing, I got this weird feeling in my stomach. I was thinking you could have any girl there, but you wanted me, and that was exciting. By the time you got to your encores, I just had to have you. I’ve done lots of making out and stuff, but never went all the way, obviously; but at that point, right then, it was like I would die if I didn’t do it.”

“And then I walked away because of curfew.”

“I was bummed, but I understood. I went to bed and thought about what it would be like, and got even more determined to do it. In the morning I went to your room, but you were gone. Your roommate told me you were at church, and that’s when I remembered you told me about that. The feeling kind of wore off by the time I came back in the afternoon. That’s why I had you sing to me. To see if I still felt the same way. I did.”

“And now?” I asked warily.

“I told you I’d do it again with you. You said you don’t have a girlfriend so if you ask me out I’ll say ‘yes’.”

The fact I was going to be away meant I could put things off a bit to figure out how I felt, and if I was honest with myself, to assuage some of the guilt I felt by not casting her aside just a few hours after she’d had sex with me.

“I’m going home this weekend and leaving late Friday afternoon. I won’t be back until Sunday evening. My study group meets every evening from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Can we talk about it next week?”

“Sure.”

I finished my hot chocolate, and Kristin and I hugged and she gave me a quick peck on the lips. I left her room and went back to mine, feeling somewhat better. The gang was out doing something, and I wasn’t sure where they were, so I took the opportunity to call home and talk with my mom and Liz, and then to call Janey and let her know I’d be home on Friday night. We made a date, and then I called Tasha.

Clarissa Part 3

Clarissa, Part 3 by Alamo Preacher [Warning. This is an adult story with some strong sexual content. It is not intended for and should not be read by minors. It is also not intended for anyone who believes that men are men, women are women and that's the way things should always be. Clarissa

Clarissa By Alamo Preacher Session One. Clarissa was both the most interesting and the most unusual of my patients in a very long time. She would have insisted that she wasn't unusual, but, at least when she first began visiting me, I believed that she was probably unique. She was first referred to me by her own doctor, who believed that Clarissa's back-pain problems were psychosomatic, and had a mental, rather than physical cause. In fact, as it turned out, Clarissa had a...

Within Clarissa

knowitall. Most people I know can't even remember so far back. But they still say shit like that. They always do. That way they sound wise and like they actually have a perspective on life and time and their position in it. Bollocks to them. But it was a bad year. I'll remember it as a year of disasters. First, Lynn left. She walked out on me, lowercase style. There was no big Hollywood drama, no passionate scenes to mark the end of a relationship. Shit, it hurt me. I like to imagine...

To Please Clarissa

(For the Love of Clarissa) I was about to retire from my job and was none too happy about it. At sixty-four years old, healthy, vigorous, and suddenly alone due to the passing of my wife a year earlier, I was in no way ready to continue my lonely existence without the distractions of work. My business was sales, and I traveled quite a bit. As the month of my forced retirement approached, I eagerly took any opportunity to go on these road trips. My route was fairly confined and I usually...

Clarissa Part 2

As he came, I felt his legs trembling and shuddering, draped over my shoulders as my own had so many times before. His eyes, locked with mine as the orgasm rippled through him were hooded but wonderfully alive. I smiled at him as I felt his ass muscles clench around the dildo and I felt a purr of cat-like pleasure rumble in my belly at the exquisite feeling of having fucked my husband till he came. I lowered my mouth to his and let him hungrily kiss my lips and pant his thanks to me. I...

The SmithChapter 31 Clarissa

April 23, 2022. “Ugh, my ‘Tirade at the old Biddy’ was recorded and reported. Some of the reactions are funny. Most think it was edited or staged. Did I really sound disjointed to you?” “Well, you do have a tendency of bouncing from subject to subject.” “Shut it. Who asked you? UGH. Someone, I won’t mention Colleen’s name who I will kill later, stickied my ‘Shut it’. I think the new one is spreading.” I chuckled at her discomfort. “Oh, Darrin has a girlfriend. FINALLY ... she’s a Franco...

Clarissa masters wife workers whore

I stood idly on the weed strewn platform with the blustery wind ruffling my thin summer suit, as it rattled the locked waiting room door  and rustled the lush cow parsley on the now neglected  station garden and I watched the little train which brought me chuff busily away up the steep sided valley as I fretted and wondered why Brabbinger my chauffeur was not there to pick me up in the Rolls Royce. Desert JailChapter 5 Debbie Makes her Mark on Clarissa Megan is Freed

Megan had fallen asleep during the afternoon. Perhaps sleep was the wrong word. Drifting in and out of unconsciousness was a more accurate description. This last day had been the hottest of the summer and every time her skin touched the bars of her cage it was blistered. Although it was hell in her continued confinement she wondered how Clarissa was coping as she worked for ten hours a day in the same heat. Every day she eagerly looked out for her friend as the returning truck disgorged its...

Desert JailChapter 6 Hard Times for Clarissa Back to Work A Setback

After one day's recuperation, all alone in the cell while Stella and Miranda were at work, Megan was told to join them. Like Miranda and Clarissa, Megan, after all those weeks naked in the cage, was accustomed to the sun on her body, but her feet were not used to the rough ground and she soon began to feel sore. "Try to get those feet used to it, Megan" said Miranda. "Those soles have a lot of miles to cover when we finally make a run for it!" "And who says we are making a run for it?...

Desert JailChapter 7 More Hard Times for Clarissa

One of the girls had tried to get away from the prison by climbing over the wall, after a searchlight had been disabled, presumably by an accomplice. The girl had soon been caught and hauled back to the prison where she had been roughly interrogated and then brought before the assembled prisoners, all forced to stand stripped naked for hours in the full heat of the sun. As the rest of them watched she was whipped by two prisoners before being put into the cage to stay for some months before...

"I think it's beginning to work, Miranda!" "Maybe, but I still don't fancy running hour after hour in this heat! But you're right about getting the feet hardened up. It hurt the first few days, but as you say, it's beginning to work." It was three weeks since Megan and Clarissa had been falsely imprisoned by the local police in this desert gaol. Desert JailChapter 4 Megan STILL Hangs Around Clarissa Takes it Off

It was now twelve weeks since the two friends had been falsely imprisoned. Megan was still in the cage, a largely forgotten figure as far as the other women were concerned. Every now and again the odd prisoner might look up at the trapped girl, for ever bent double except for the occasional night when Wanda, the one humane guard, let her out for a few precious minutes, but mostly she was just part of the background. Clarisse moaned. Her head is in a state of excruciating pain. As her mind began processing things, she realized that her mouth was taped with a cloth is inside her mouth. She scanned her surroundings. She was in a windowless room, with a single bulb on the ceiling. She tried to get up, but her body won’t move. The first thing she realized was that she was lying on a king-sized bed. Her arms and legs had been stretched out – tied to the bedposts. She was lying spread eagle! She looked down...

Clarissa Morgen Part 1

In recent weeks, several houses were broken in within the city. According to her sources, inside every house that was broken in a painting of a galleon was torn. Intrigued by these patterns, she did some investigating in the hopes of finding something out. She could almost figure out the pattern, but there is always something missing. 5 houses have were broken in. 5 paintings were ripped. All paintings seem to have the canvas ripped and those ripped portions were now missing. Specifically, the...

Becoming one with Clarissa

As I looked around the site to figure out how I would remove myself, I noticed I had a new email in my inbox. Judging by her picture alone, she looked promising, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up. Truthfully, most of the women online seemed to be there because they liked attention and never actually intended to meet you, or because they couldn't get a date anywhere else. I had been on three dates with women who seemed normal while emailing but turned out to be nothing like their...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 26 Martyrdom

November 7, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “What’s up with you and Nancy?” Angie asked as we drove home from church on Sunday morning. “Nothing, really,” I said. “I’m taking her to dinner, but I’ll be back for study group. I missed last Sunday because I was at her house until fairly late. I can’t do that too often.” “You’re still interested in her?” “As a friend. If you recall, she had serious trust issues, and I don’t know that she’s past them.” “And if she is?” “I have no plans to have a steady...

March 15, 1983, McKinley, Ohio “I’m Clarissa Saunders and this is Mike Loucks! We’re Sophomores and we’ll be your guides for your campus tour, and we’ll do our best to answer any questions you have.” I surveyed the prospective Freshmen and wondered if I’d looked like a deer caught in the headlights of a truck when I’d been on my first campus visit. I probably had, and several of the High School Seniors in our group certainly looked that way, especially one guy who was about an inch taller...

Rebel 1777Chapter 39 Clare Clarissa

We rode right into it and paid the price; two of my company dead plus the driver and footman shot off the carriage. I rolled from my wounded horse and scrambled into the weeds and thorn bushes while George galloped off in the other direction, going for help I certainly hoped. It was a whole company of howling Germans, blue jackets with red facings, and they laughed and gabbled while they searched the dead and pulled two women and a well-dressed man from the rig. I had not been told who we...

February 5, 1983, West Monroe, Ohio “I owe you an apology for earlier. Not for what I said, but how I said it.” “And I owe you one for interfering in something I shouldn’t have.” “I’m going to need to talk to Dad, too,” I said. “But again, only for walking away, not for objecting to his classification of April as not being a ‘nice’ girl.” “I thought for a moment you were going to say, ‘make Mom’ instead of ‘make me’.” “For a moment, I was. But at that split second good sense overcame my...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 69 Busted

May 9, 1983, McKinley, Ohio “Is something wrong?” Kristin asked on Monday morning. “What do you mean?” “It just felt as if you were somewhere else last night when we were fooling around.” I had been, because once my sleep deprivation was past, I had basically obsessed on the bishop’s comment about ‘choosing’ and the myriad of possibilities I had to choose from, AND the potential problems each of them might create. What he had said about serving at the cathedral and in other parishes only...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 12 All for One and One for All

August 20, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “Mike Loucks,” I said to the young woman at the desk in the brand-new Rickenbacker dorm. She flipped through the manila envelopes and pulled out the one with my name on it. “Your room key, a sticker for your ID to update it for this year, a new student handbook, and your parking sticker,” she said. “Parking sticker?” “The lots are all numbered now, and you can only park in the lot you’re assigned to. Yours should be next to this dorm.” “What about...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 3 Jocelyns Solution

June 12, 1982, West Monroe, Ohio “What’s going on between you and Jocelyn?” Mom asked when I returned upstairs after talking to Dad. “I thought that was obvious,” I smirked. “Or did you want details?” “Pass,” Mom laughed. “But seriously, Mike, what’s going on?” “We love each other. We had a long, long talk about everything and this is what we want to do. We’re not going to marry; we both understand that. And I’m not going steady with Melody.” “Do you love Melody?” I shrugged, “I have no...

January 29, 1983, McKinley, Ohio “These cookies are excellent!” I took another bite and washed it down with a bit of hot cocoa. “Believe it not, it’s just the ‘Toll House’ recipe!” Kristin said. “I’m glad you like them.” “You liked my songs?” “Oh man, those love songs made me shiver! You must have really loved her.” “I did, and I still do, but it doesn’t really matter now.” “I guess not,” she said quietly. “Why pick me to sing to?” “I saw a pretty girl who didn’t have a guy with her,”...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 19 Good Advice

September 19, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “Mishka!” Tasha gushed when I called her on Sunday afternoon. “How are you?” “Good. How are things in West Monroe?” “You know nothing changes here. Church is the same. School is the same. Home is the same. And you?” “School is about the same as last year, but I’ve made some new friends.” “I want to meet them! Do you think Sasha and I could visit in two weeks?” “If your mom and dad approve, yes.” “They will, so long as I bring Sasha. She promised not...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 40 Meltdown

January 13, 1983, McKinley, Ohio “Mike?” I heard from behind me. I was sitting on a bench under a tree while snow fell around me. I wasn’t wearing a hat or coat or gloves because I hadn’t put them on when I’d walked from my room. I’d wandered around for a bit, then sat down on a bench near the edge of campus. “Mike?” the voice repeated, but I didn’t respond. I was still reeling from the pictures Jocelyn had sent me. It wasn’t that she was having sex, apparently, with a bunch of different...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 2 Mik and Jos

June 6, 1982, West Monroe, Ohio “Jos,” I sighed. “It’s not that simple.” “Isn’t it?” “Come on! You know that would end things between Melody and me!” “I believe Melody has been good for you, but is she THE ONE? Wait! Don’t answer. If she was, you wouldn’t be dating Tasha and Katy, and you wouldn’t still be carrying a torch for Angie.” “Angie is just a friend,” I protested. Jocelyn smiled, “I’ll take that wager anytime you want to make it. You can answer my first question now.” I...

September 14, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “How did your parents fight?” Doctor Hart asked. “They didn’t,” I replied. “Whenever my dad disagreed with my mom, he went to his workshop in the basement.” Doctor Hart smiled, “OK, perhaps I should have phrased that better. How did they resolve conflicts?” “Just as I described.” “And after he hid in his workshop?” “He basically stayed there until he accepted that my mom was right, then went to make up. Do NOT ask me how!” Doctor Hart laughed, “The...

Desert JailChapter 9 Where is Clarissa

"Feeling better, Stella?" asked Megan as they worked at the rock-breaking, three days after their release. They had been taken in the new truck which had just arrived to replace the one Clarissa had stolen. By now they had lost hope that the escapee had survived. "A bit, Megan. I'm not as strong as you three. I wonder how Miranda and the others are. The poor girl in the cage looked close to dying when I left this morning. It must be terrible to be cooped up like that all the time, but...

Extra Curricular StudiesChapter 8 Clarissa punished again

Clarissa The letter came the following morning; I was suspended from Uni for one month for drug taking. The letter pointed out that it could have been an expulsion and would be if I were found to take drugs in the future. After the last episode and the trauma of the stomach pump, I had no intention of trying E again. Being suspended, of course, didn't suspend me from lessons at home and yes, my work did improve largely thanks to Su Lee. I liked her, I liked her a lot and what we did...

March 25, 1983, West Monroe, Ohio “I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to talk to you earlier,” I said to Mom when I arrived home. “I understand. You’re home a bit early.” “There really wasn’t anything playing at the movies we wanted to see. We’re going to have breakfast tomorrow and spend the day together. We’ll be at Vespers, though to prevent any explosions I’ll drop her at home so she can come to church with her family.” “I talked to your grandfather on her behalf,” Mom said. “I think...

October 16, 1982, West Monroe, Ohio “I had the weirdest experience today.” “Oh?” Mom asked with an arched eyebrow. “I stopped in to see April. She was nursing Chastity. Later, April let me hold her. I was just blown away by the whole experience.” “Babies change your life in many, many ways.” I nodded, “It was like scales fell from my eyes. You know, things I knew intellectually but didn’t really understand.” “Care to share?” “Let’s just say my views on female anatomy changed a...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 37 Surprising Realizations

January 1, 1983, West Monroe, Ohio “Good afternoon, Father Deacon,” I said. “Good afternoon, Mikhail Petrovich. Sit down, please.” Tasha and I exchanged a look and we sat down on the settee, but with about a foot of empty cushion between us. “I would like the truth, Mikhail Petrovich. Have you and Tasha been behaving inappropriately?” That was a good question to which ONE answer was ‘yes’, but another answer was ‘no’. I was reasonably certain he was asking the second question, not the...

April 3, 1983, McKinley, Ohio “Hi, Mike!” “Hi, Mrs. Landers.” “Come on in. Nancy is putting the finishing touches on dinner.” I hadn’t said anything to Nancy about my fasting rule because I didn’t want to create any issues with their Easter dinner. “Thanks!” “Your Easter isn’t for another month, right?” she asked. “May 8th, though our service starts about 10:30pm the night before.” “We went to midnight mass when I was little, but Nancy and I prefer the first morning mass at 5:30am....

July 23, 1982, Circleville, Ohio “I’m sorry I missed our date late Friday,” Katy said after greeting me with a kiss and letting me into the house. “That’s the fourth time you’ve apologized! I accepted your apology when you called to tell me, and for that, you don’t have to apologize! How is your grandmother?” “No change since we spoke on Wednesday. January 25, 1983, McKinley, Ohio “You won’t believe what happened on Sunday,” Dale laughed. “What?” “You know Pam’s roommate? The hot cheerleader chick?” “The one you’ve been drooling over since day one?” “Yeah, but I think I have to reconsider. Liking her appears to be VERY dangerous!” “What happened?” “Remember how I said she was dating a guy, even though she was hung up on a guy from Chicago?” “Sure.” “I found out Pam dated him at one point, too! June 25, 1982, West Monroe, Ohio “I’m not sure if that’s a good idea or not,” I replied. “Why?” Becky asked. “We’ve done it before. I don’t have a steady boyfriend. And you said you don’t have a steady girlfriend.” “That’s true. May I ask a very blunt question?” “Sure.” “Are YOU looking to be my girlfriend?” Becky shook her head slowly, “Remember what I said back in October? August 28, 1982, West Monroe, Ohio “Duh!” she laughed softly. “I’m in your bed! September 12, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “Hi, Jos,” I said when her roommate called her to the phone. “Hi. How are things?” ‘Shitty!’ I wanted to say, and not in Russian. I also wanted to tell her I missed her and wanted to see her, but saying that might only make things worse. At this point, though, I wondered what ‘worse’ might be. “OK. October 8, 1982, Circleville, Ohio “I want to, yes, of course; but we reset things for good reasons. Why the change?” Katy got up from the couch and sat back down in my lap, draping her arms over my shoulders. “I wanted to from the minute I saw you naked. I’ve dreamed about what it would be like.” “I felt the same way when I saw you naked,” I said. “Well, even before, when you first let me touch you. But I can’t promise you anything right now, Katy.” She sighed deeply, then moved her...

October 16, 1982, West Monroe, Ohio After my talk with Mom, I went to find Liz, and invited her to sit on the floor of my room to talk. We sat side-by-side, leaning against the bed. “Why in here and not in the basement?” I felt it was my duty to warn Liz, as my sister, of the way voices carried through the heating ducts. Mom had told me, in confidence, but I couldn’t in good conscience keep that vital piece of information from Liz. “Because voices carry through the heating ducts,” I...

November 13, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “So, what do you want to do tonight?” Nancy laughed, “As if you have to ask!” “I mean BESIDES that!” “How about we grab some dinner and then see The Man from Snowy River. It’s an Australian film and it’s had excellent reviews. Then we can come back here.” “Dinner and a movie, sure. The other thing? Let’s not move so fast, OK?” “We’ve done it before...” “Yes, we have. November 29, 1982, McKinley, Ohio “Now that you’ve had a night to sleep on it, what do you think?” Sandy asked, snuggling close. “Isn’t that what I’m supposed to ask you?” “Probably, but I thought you might have changed your mind or had more of an idea what you meant.” “I asked my mom if there was anything wrong with marrying a friend.” “Me?! Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 38 Dont We Have A Date

January 2, 1983, West Monroe, Ohio When I arrived at church on Sunday morning, I was pleased to see Deacon Vasily with Father Herman, saying their entry prayers. I stood quietly in the nave while one of the acolytes, a Junior in High School, lit the oil lamps and ensured everything was properly arranged in the altar. As I stood there, I wondered what would happen when Tasha arrived. Where she stood would speak volumes about what had happened the previous evening when they had missed...

Because of her dad?” I shook my head, “No, it’s way more complicated. We can talk after dinner if that’s OK.” “Sure. I’m half-expecting her to return the gift unopened.” “Not if I have anything to say about it!” she replied firmly. “Please don’t force the issue,” I pleaded. “Whatever is wrong with Jocelyn isn’t going to change because you pressure her. October 26, 1982, McKinley, Ohio When we returned from biology lab on Tuesday morning, a large group was milling around the entrance to the dorms. I saw Melody and walked over to ask her what the issue was. “The police busted Jeremy for pot,” she said. “Nobody can go into the dorm right now.” “What? For one or two joints? Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 42 Dinner with Doctor Blahnik

January 21, 1983, McKinley, Ohio I still hadn’t decided on the answer to Clarissa’s final question when Angie and I went to run on Friday morning. One thing I was reasonably sure of was that saying ‘no’ would likely be equivalent to saying, ‘not yet’. Milena and her friends didn’t seem likely to withdraw the offer anytime soon, though they would all complete their Master’s or undergrad degrees in May. But that wasn’t the thing which was in the front of my mind. What was foremost was what...

Why would she assume otherwise? She knows we run together, pray together, and go to church together. Why do you think everyone calls me ‘Mrs. Loucks’?” “But still...” “She’s just very open and a lot of fun. I wish more professors were like her, even if she made me turn purple!” “I...

Good Medicine Sophomore YearChapter 18 Stress Relief

September 16, 1982, McKinley, Ohio Sandy hadn’t moved, but the feeling of her leaning against me changed with her question. My first thought was Angie, and I lifted my eyes to hers, and found a bemused look on her face. I realized, at that moment, that the dorm opinion of her being ‘Mrs. Loucks’ wasn’t all that far-fetched. In some ways, I was treating her that way, and she certainly was, in some ways, acting like a wife. I’d known that before, but my instant, gut reaction of looking to her...
