He wasn’t where he normally was. That he knew. All around him things were different.
A bed was in the room; a bed with pale pink sheets and a pink woolen blanket. On the floor there was a carpet. Blue and red threads had been woven together to make an intricate purplish design. Next to the bed was a nightstand. On it sat a squat pottery lamp and an alarm clock. A large dog, probably a German shepherd, sat, chained, in one corner of the room. It didn’t seem to be awake.
He crept over to the door. It was solid oak and had flowers and vines carved into it. He put his hand softly on the door handle and turned. The door clicked but remained tightly closed.
The dog’s ears perked up at the sound. It sniffed the air without opening its eyes. Seeming to catch an unusual scent, it opened its eyes. Seeing the boy, it began to bark loudly. The boy threw himself at the door, trying to open it.
The door opened and a girl stepped in. She was tall, but not overly so and her long legs were covered by a beautifully tight miniskirt. Her hair was brown and fell past her shoulders. She wore a shirt that was tight enough to accentuate her young breasts, but still covered her entire midriff. She wore no jewelry except for her earrings in the shape of hearts.
The boy had been knocked to the ground by the opening door. When she saw him lying there she gave a little start.
“Who are you?”
“Me?” asked the boy, pulling himself to his feet.
“Yes, and what are you doing in my room?”
“My name’s Tim and I don’t know how I got here.”
“Oh. Tim. I don’t like that name.” the girl said calmly as she walked over to stroke the German shepherd behind his ears.
“I’m sorry.” Tim said, “But you don’t have to like it.”
“Where are you Tim?” asked the girl, smiling.
“I don’t know. Your room, I guess.”
“Exactly. And I say what I can or cannot do in my room.”
“What?”
“I also mandate what others do or do not do in my room.”
“I could just leave.”
“No, you can’t.” said the girl, who was now lounging on the bed. “The only people who come in or go out are the ones I want in or out.”
“You didn’t know I was here.” argued Tim.
“You’re correct. But now that you are here, I don not want you to leave.” The girl got off her bed and stalked cat-like towards Tim. She placed her hands on her hips and looked him up and down for a moment. “Sit down!” she commanded, her voice suddenly sharp.
“What?” asked Tim, confused by the unpredicted change.
The hand came out of nowhere, smacking him across the face.
“When I say ‘sit down’, you had better sit down!”
Tim sat down. The girl went over to the dog and scratched it behind the ears. It whimpered a little and tilted its head towards her hand.
“What’s your name?” Tim asked.
“Never you mind.” The girl answered savagely as she began to undo the dog’s collar.
“You really shouldn’t do that,” cautioned Tim, “That dog nearly attacked me when I tried to open the door.”
“Exactly, and, if you do not do precisely as I say, this dog is going to attack you for real.” When she had finished undoing the dog’s collar the girl stood and turned to face Tim once again.
