I shook my head. “How can things get that out of control, and not break the rules? I mean, so far it sounds like she was following them.”
“Exactly. OK, ahhh, wow this is hard for me to say. They rolled on their sides, with Kimmy facing away from Linda towards the wall. And she asked Linda to, well, tell her some more stories. And she did. Linda I guess went into some detail about the four of us in the hotel. She told her about the two of us holding hands and kissing them as you and Keith gave us orgasms. She told her about us feeling each other up a bit during the last kissing game. And she realized after about 5 minutes that Kimmy, well, that Kimmy was masturbating! She was faced away from her, but she felt her moving. She lifted up and looked, and Kimmy had her hand in the front of her shorts. So she, well, she kept talking and pretty much did the same thing.” Holly was blushing now.
“They did not look at each other, Linda laid on her back and Kimmy on her side facing away, and they each masturbated as Linda told her about being with you. That seemed to be what Kimmy wanted to hear the most. And they each did it I think 2 times. Then Kimmy got up, they had a last kiss and left.” Holly then took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
“And that is what happened according to Linda. And ya know what, I believe her. So did it violate the actual agreement? Not at all, they had no sexual contact of any kind. But in a way they violated the idea, because they had intimate sexual contact with themselves together. And she told me she was going to tell you everything after you two ate. And I believe her in that as well. Now do you see my dilemma? She is absolutely crushed, just as you are. And I think both of you are wrong, her in not stopping things sooner, and you for just storming out without giving her a chance to explain. Or at a minimum saying you could talk it out when you cooled off. She said you just said ‘Goodbye’ and left. That is a pretty clear way of saying you did not want to talk to her again.”
“Holly, I, I mean, I...” That is all I got out, her fingers were on my lips.
“Now you know a bit more. I am going to go and call Linda. You, go and have some lunch, and then spend the rest of the day and tonight putting your thoughts into order. If you need me give a call and I will come over, or come over to my place. Don’t call Linda, you both need to work out your own feelings first I think. But you need to think through a few things first.
“Don’t answer, but think about these things. Were you upset that she may have done it with Kimmy, or that it was without permission? Do you two want a closed relationship, one where you swap on occasion, or have an outright open relationship? Would you like her to eventually sleep with Kimmy? And if so, with or without you?
“Think about that, and we will talk about it later. And yes, I am going to tell Linda the same things, but in a bit harsher manner. I still think she let her hormones get away from her and she stepped over the line, but you should have at least listened to her before storming off. I don’t know if this can be saved between you two, that depends on you and her. I would like to see you try, but ultimately that is your decision, and Linda’s. You may not want her back after she broke your trust to a degree. She may not want you back if you just fly into a rage and storm off without listening to her. But I do not want to lose either of my friends either. You two have to decide.”
She then gave me a gentle kiss on the lips, and headed out.
I sat in there for an hour and thought. Yes, we were both wrong. But did I want to be hurt like that again? Could I trust her again? Could she trust me again? So after an hour I decided to follow an old routine when I am upset. Go and get a maple bar and a cup of coffee.
Don’t ask me why, that is what my mom always did. And that often helps me think better so I do the same thing. Since it was only a block away I was home 30 minutes later. And as I turned the corner, there was Mandy walking away from my house towards me.
Her eyes almost looked terrified as she walked up to me, and she had been crying also. But there is no reason she should ever be scared of me, so I opened my arms just a bit. Then spent several minutes just hugging her as she told me she was so glad I was not mad at her. I took her hand and led her into the living room. I then had her calm down, and said I was not mad at her at all. In fact, after talking with Holly I was not even mad anymore really, just hurt.
“Dude, she is killing herself over this. Yea, she told me what she did. I told her she was being a real cunt for that. Yes, she went over the line, and did not go over the line. But your agreement was not about rules, it was really about trust. I don’t know what I would do if Peggy did that. Yes, I guess our relationship is not like yours. We have fooled around with guys, with each other. I think if she had a date with a boy I knew about it, that would not bother me. But if I found out she fooled around with another girl without telling me, it would hurt. But then again, if she told me she had met this other girl, and things just kinda clicked with them, I hope I would be strong enough to let her go. I do think about how her and I will eventually break up, because I know it will not last forever. That is one way that you two are lucky. It can go forever, for Peggy and I, it never will.” I hugged her tight as she said this, and she sighed.
“We both want a husband, we both want k**s, and things like that. So I think by the time school starts things will probably cool off for us. At that point we will be kinda like you and Linda. I will be a Sophomore, she will be a Junior. And right after school starts she will be allowed to actually date boys.”
I gave her a big hug at that and kissed her forehead softly.
“So I kinda know that things between us will start changing in a month or so. But you two have got to work something out. Even if you only become friends. Because I like going out with you Pete. Hanging out, skating, going to conventions, you are like a big brother to me. And I don’t want to lose that.”
She cried in my arms, and I guess I cried in hers a bit. She said she had to head home, and I told her I would walk to the corner with her. I wanted to go talk to Holly for a bit. She gave me another hug at the corner, and kissed my cheek. Then she headed one direction to her apartment, and I walked the other towards Holly’s house.
I knocked on the door, and a few minutes later Holly answered the door. She looked shocked to see me. “Pete, what are you doing here?” I told her about Mandy’s visit, and if I had time I would like to talk. And for the first time ever she waffled and talked to me standing outside. She was saying that she would come over in a bit, she had to do something first.
“Holly, is everything OK?” I heard from inside. And my heart leaped through my throat. Then behind her I saw Linda. And my heart almost broke because she looked terrified when she saw me.
I think it was that look of terror that broke me. I felt a tear when I saw that, and just said “I’ll call later.” And turned and walked away.
I made it 3 steps when Holly grabbed my arm roughly and spun me around. “Look you chicken shit little bastard, you better turn right the fuck around and go tell her that you still love her. Either you do that, or you walk right the fuck away right here and now and never talk to her again. Make your choice.”
I looked into her eyes, and saw fury. I then looked up at Linda, and she was crying and scared. And I made my decision.
I turned around and walked.
Right through the door, and right into Linda’s arms. Where we stood there for 10 minutes just holding each other and crying.
Sometime during that crying spell it was all 3 of us holding each other and crying. Then Holly went and got us tissues and we all sat on the couch. I apologized for not listening and walking away. She apologized for not following the intent of our agreement. Holly verbally slapped both of us for being idiots.
Right before her dad got home she wrote a note saying we were all going out for dinner. I picked up burgers and we drove to a little place I had discovered on a map but not been to yet. Way up on the 118, a kind of wilderness park. There were some tables at the entrance so we sat and had our dinner as we talked.
“Look you two, you have got to communicate more. And before one of you acts, talk to the other. Linda, no more bending the rules with Pete. Either follow them because that is what you agreed to, or just end it.”
“Holly, you agree that the rules...”
Holly cut her off fast. “Yes, the rules are a little sexist, but they are the rules you both agreed to!” She then stared at me, hard. “Pete, think about this a second. The rules ARE all limiting her, but not you. That is just a bit wrong, don’t ya think?”
I thought for a minute, and sighed. “Well, I guess how we agreed on them, they are. Although to be honest, it works 100% the other way as well. I promise to never kiss anybody, boy or girl, for more than 15 minutes and exploratory not passionate. I agree to tell Linda as soon as I can afterwards, even though I know I will never kiss anybody else other than you Holly. And she knows about the kisses we share sometimes.. I agree to let her have full input and we decide together if I get with somebody else, boy or girl. Is that better?”
They both nodded. “The only reason I never outright said that, is that I had already said I would NOT do any of those things, period. I do not want to be with another guy. And the only way I would get involved with another girl is if Linda instigates it.”
Holly nodded, and looked to Linda. “See, I told you so. As I said, communication. The wording you both used sure does sound like he was trying to control you. But it also sounds like he was putting even more controls upon himself! Linda, you can kiss another girl, then tell him afterwards. He pretty much said the same thing last week, that he would not kiss another girl unless you agree to it first. So ignore the wording, which of you has the most freedom?”
“I know Holly, but, it just hurt so much.”
I reached out, hesitantly. Then took her hand in my own. She squeezed back, and I finally got a bit of a smile. “Linda, Holly told me about you and Kimmy. And that is the truth, right?
Her nod was not enough to convince me. But looking into her eyes I knew that was the truth.
“OK, how about, we try to try again. I don’t want to lose you if I can stop that in any way.”
Holly took a quick walk while we cried ourselves out yet again.
Finally I was walking hand in hand with my girlfriend and my best friend. Linda admitted that she was thinking of trying to involve Kimmy with her and I. That was why she had asked Kimmy to come to her apartment in the first place.
“Pete, I know it broke the rules, and did not break them. And she likes how you treat her, like a person and not a thing. I think that if I did not end up with you, she might have tried that time. She did think you had a nice butt. But for some reason I told her more than I normally would, and got rather, graphic. Like how you would use your tongue between my folds, and I actually shivered when I remembered.”
I could tell because she shivered a bit just then.
“We were lying on my bed, and I think it took me 4 or 5 minutes until I realized she was playing with herself. I stopped talking and lifted up to look over her shoulder, and her hand was inside her shorts. Kimmy just quietly asked me to keep talking. And so I told her more, and seeing and hearing her got me hot. So, well, I started too. But we never touched each other! We never even looked at each other. We kissed for a few more minutes, then I went to get ready for you. And she left a few minutes before you got there. I had already decided to tell you after we ate. I was going to tell you everything, and hope you would forgive me for bending the rules. But as soon as you walked into my bedroom, I knew that you knew. And yet, you had it all wrong. But you did not let me explain, you just said goodbye and left me!”
“I’m sorry. I hope you understand how it looks from my side and can forgive me. You know how your mom said she could smell if you had been up to something? Well, that was how it was. I could smell that you and her had sex in your room, it smelled of excitement. And your bed was still mussed, like you both had been laying on it. And toothpaste, you never brush your teeth right before I come over. Put it together like that from my side, and what did you think I would imagine happened?”
Her head was low, and she was sniffling again. I released Holly’s hand and stood in front of Linda. “Baby, if you forgive me, I forgive you. And I promise to never just walk away like that again without an explanation. Now I may be so upset I will need to go and be alone for a bit, but I will tell you that so we can talk later after I calmed down. OK?”
She nodded, and we shared a soft kiss.
“OK you two, you already blew my date with Keith tonight, but he understands. They are playing at a bowling alley over in Tarzana. What say we go catch the rest of his concert, then we can decide if we want to do something else after?
“And no Linda, I do not mean THAT!”
So laughing we all headed back to Scout.
The concert was good, and the bass player really did like Little Green Bag. It was not a sax or flute number, but Peggy looked cute banging on the tambourine as they played. Of course Mandy agreed, and she held one of my hands while Linda held the other. She was very happy we had gotten back together again. I spent most of the night enjoying the music, with the hand of one Carol sister or another in each of mine.
At the end of the set Peggy’s parents picked up her and Mandy, and I told Keith and Holly I would take them home. We made a stop at the runway, and walked around as usual. At 10:30 we were all in the backseat, the four of us just cuddling and talking.
Keith of course knew a fair amount of what happened, but no details. But he said he was relieved that our break-up had been so short. We did spend 5 minutes here and there kissing, and when my alarm went off letting us know we had 30 minutes left Holly told me to set it for an additional 30 minutes.
Which we spent making out with our lovers. It was not as intense as it usually is with Linda. No grabs or grinds, but it was still very satisfying. And the kiss she gave me when I walked her to her front door was very nice.
