I must have fallen asleep in the bath tub... I used to do that a lot, even
though I knew how dangerous it was. This time, however, things were a
little different. I won't waste any time building this up, so I'll tell you
straight -- when I got into the bath I was a hairy, male, twenty-something
and I emerged as a slim, female twenty-something. Literally, I had
become what I would always have been had I been born female.
I trembled, unwilling to accept the truth of my situation -- after all,
having spent a lifetime desperate this to happen, fantasizing, wishing,
needing it... I guess when it finally did I hadn't got a clue what to do. I
certainly didn't believe it.
I mean, would you? Could you? After all, it's not everyday you wake up
with the body you've dreamed of your entire life!
My fervent hands quickly put paid to any delusion of hallucination. I
could feel what I could see -- my breasts, my hips, my arms... all perfect.
I knew that my dream, if it was a dream, was one I didn't wish to awaken
from.
So, I swallowed hard, gulping, and spoke softly, "I am a woman." I'd
said that before many times, but now I had the biology to prove it. I
stood nervously, the water from the bath dripping from me, unwilling to
move -- unwilling to take any action that would end this beautiful
illusion, this dramatically instant end to my life's suffering.
So, before I was transsexual, a woman's brain in a man's body. No longer
I was complete, finally.
It was many minutes before I dared to move, picking up some clothes as
I did. Nothing fancy, you understand, just the jeans and T-shirt that I'd
worn before... before I changed. The satisfaction I felt when they did not
fit me...I remember it well.
Dry and dressed, I moved downstairs carefully, still assuming my current
physicality was as transitory and fragile as my own sanity. It was in my
kitchen that I first met Harry Slazenger.
"Well, Hello there, Miss!" he said, his smile as bright as the jacket of his
suit. He told me his name and passed me a business card. I didn't read it
I never do.
"Hi?" I replied, naturally concerned about his presence in my kitchen...
this had to be a dream. What else could it be?
"I guess you must be mighty confused, right now, huh?" He had the look
of a preacher, but haven't met very few I could not be sure.
I raised an eyebrow at him before responding. "Surprized is better, I
think. Worried it's going to end any minute."
He laughed warmly. "No, no... it ain't going to end. You're a woman, and
that's that."
"I'm dreaming, right?"
"Now, come on... does this feel like a dream to you? Why, I could kinda
get upset thct you think of me as your dream friend."
"Sorry," I said, genuinely. "I didn't mean to upset you."
"Oh, don't you worry about that right now, Miss." He flashed his smile at
me one more time before sucking air in through his teeth and scratching
his chin. "Say, how about you and I go take a walk? How does that
sound?"
"A walk?"
"Sure! Stretch those new legs of yours! What do you say?"
"Okay," I said. I was unsure, of course. I mean, I knew I looked like a
woman, and I knew I thought like a woman, but actually pass as one?
Live as one? That had always been my future, never my present. "A
quick walk. I don't want to go too far."
"Then it's settled, aint it?"
It felt strange to wear my old, male leather jacket. It didn't fit any more,
but I knew it wouldn't change the way people identified me -- after all,
I'd seen myself in the mirror -- I was a woman, of that there was no
doubt. In the end, I simply couldn't express my utter pleasure at this
unexpected and fantastic turn of events... gone was the prospect of
painful and invasive surgeries, gone was the worry of passing
convincingly and safely... I had it all, and I had it now. What could I say?
Who could I thank for this gift? I was speechless, the sheer scale of the
event not quite reaching my full attention.
The walk was surprizingly uneventful. As I suspected, with my flawless
female body, I didn't even get a second look. That was strange in itself, I
suppose... surely, the men that pass by examine even the plainest of
women? But no, Harry and I walked side by side chatting about the
world and of people and no-one looked twice. I was invisible, and at that
moment I don't believe I'd ever been happier in my life.
"This is unbelievable, you know," I said to Harry.
"Well, you'd better just start believing it, honey."
"But... how is this possible? How has this happened?"
Harry looked at me, frowned, and said, "You don't know?"
"Know what?"
"See that light over there?"
I did... it was bright, and it consumed the horizon with the burning
brilliance of the sun itself. "Yeah?"
"That's where we're headed. I'm your guide, you see."
"My guide?" Still, I had no idea what he was talking about.
"Yeah, I'm your spirit guide if you want to call me that. I take you from
the land of the living to the eternal afterlife, yadda yadda."
"Afterlife?"
"Sure, honey. You died in the bathtub... you fell asleep and drowned."
My head... my head filled with the buzzing of a swarm of locusts, my
whole body went numb -- my lips tingled as my shock drained my of my
energy. "I'm...I'm..." Trembling, I gently sat myself on the floor, for fear
of collapsing and cracking my head on the concrete sidewalk.
"I'm sorry, honey."
"But... my body?"
"You got the body you always wanted. Everyone does... everyone who
goes up, if you see what I mean."
"Oh..."
And, with that, I took his hand and I let him take me wherever it was he
intended to take me... I guess I got the peace I always wanted... maybe
that's what Heaven is -- peace.
