Part 3:
Picking up the pieces (StarGirl's beginning)
Allison awoke in a large king sized bed. Cuddled next to her was Kelly, love
of her life, sleeping soundly. She softly untangled her body from her love's
embrace. Kelly had been through a difficult 2 and a half months. Allison had
been...well nearly catatonic. Picking up the pieces of her life hadn't come
overnight, or even after a few nights. But now Allison had put that
disturbing experience behind her. Naked, she slid off the canopied silk
luxury that had been their bed. She crossed the room into the bathroom and
relived herself. She pulled on a pair of silk panties and matching bra. She
put on a pair of black jeans and a matching tee shirt. After putting on her
sock and shoes, she looked briefly back at the bed. Kelly had taken expert
care of her, feeding, changing, and keeping her from harming herself. She
opened the large oak door and walked downstairs. The old man was sitting in
one of the leather chairs next to the roaring fireplace.
"Good Evening, Allison. How are you feeling?"
"Better. I think i can go back now."
The old man smiled. "Do you remember what you saw in the diamond?"
"Very little. Enough to know how Kelly met me. The girl that almost was
killed by the truck is part of what happened, but i can't...well i'm sure i
saw what part she played in it, but i can't remember."
"Allison, that demon was orchestrating the end of the world. He set up the
circumstances that will lead a russian scientist to believe that a certain
FBI agent was responsible for his parents death."
"So the scientist plans to trigger a nuclear holocaust all because his
parent's died?"
The old man chuckled. "No, the then to be scientist too small a player in
that part. The missile would have touched down in washington. It triggers a
counter attack that destroys what's left of the former USSR. China, seeing an
opportunity, launches an nuclear attack of its own which the US counters as
well. Very little is left of the human race after that."
"So that's why the gremlin looked like how he did. It also explains Barry
Mcguire. But what does that little girl have to do with it? She's too young
right now to do anything about it."
The old man chuckled again. "All of what you were shown happens 20 years in
the future. By then she is a United Nation's agent in charge of Disarmament.
She discovers one Missile silo is hidden in the mountains and goes to
investigate. Before you killed him, the demon showed a certain boy in russia,
whose parents mysteriously disappear, where and what he can do about it."
"She dies making sure the missile never launches."
The Smile on the old man's face Faded."Yes. And she isn't the only one. 1200
people in a village nearby perish in the aftermath nuke's wake. Its senseless
and tragic. I've seen both in the future's of some of those that come into my
shop."
Allison looked intently to the old man's face. Normally that face seemed
youthful and happy. Now it looked old beyond age, perhaps beyond time. She
quickly turned her face to the oak paneled floor.
"Its not always pleasant seeing into peoples lives. Mostly, yes, but not
always. You will come to understand."
She nodded. For the past few days, she had an idea that after what had
happened she no longer could go back to being a simple schoolgirl. But was
that what she had wanted in the first place?
No.
It was interesting, but would get boring after awhile. No, she wanted more.
She wanted to tinker with her fellow human beings, she wanted to fly among
the stars and learn all the universe could show her. The excitement curbed
her sadness at the young girls fate, but not much.
"I take it then that you have decided?"
She looked up into the old man's amused face. "Yeah. I've decided."
"And what is it you want?" The old man seemed about to burst out laughing.
"I don't need to tell you, you can read my mind just as plainly as day."
"Ahh, so i can." The old man reached into his robe and brought out a claw
holding a silver sphere.
"This little trinket will give you the powers that you seek. Shapeshifting,
DNA modification not just for yourself, but for whoever you choose, mind
control, and others that you will need. After all, A StarGirl has
responsibilities too."
"What responsibilities?" Allison was through intrigued.
"Helping mankind know mankind better. I'm burdened with it. Why, 500 clones
of myself barely keep up."
"You mean i'm talking to a clone right now?" Allison looked intently at the
old man.
"More or less. But never mind me. You have the ability to roam the universe
as you wish. But in return, you have responsibilities here; Namely a goddess
of transformation. Male to female, Female to male,et cetra."
Allison Thought deeply about that one. True, she did like the idea, but there
was something else, something that she couldn't let happen. What ever the
cost.
"I Don't recommend it. Messing with that big a fate can lead to drastic
consequences."
"I Killed myself so she could live. I can't let her die."
Nodding mostly to himself, the old man passed the Claw with the silver sphere
in its grasp over. It shimmered in her grasp before crumbling to dust.
Allison's eyes glowed a bright pink for a few seconds.
Time stopped in Allison's mind. She was brought back over her life in memory,
first over the past few weeks, then months, then years as the re-living of
her life speeded up. Close to the end, She witnessed her birth as a female
passing out of the womb of her mother and into the cold hospital room. Then,
briefly, she was actually IN her mother.
Time then reversed itself, moving forward in Alex's pervious life, showing
him every action taken by him or anybody that had any connection to him. More
than that, he saw into the thoughts and actions motivating her/him. Her mind
seemed cramped, barely able to process the data assaulting her. When she
thought she could bear no more, she sensed her consciousness expanding onto
levels that processed the newly acquired data with ease. With her
intellectual growth came emotional growth. Logic and emotion where the
building blocks of self-awareness, constantly going from agreement with each
other to total disagreement, and she leaped beyond a human's level in both.
That cramped feeling again. And again, that sense of expansion.
When she had experienced enough, she floated back to her flesh. It was like
awakening after never knowing you had been asleep.
"Thank You. I suppose i never will see you again after tonight." Allison
sounded depressed.
"We might meet again. Fate constantly shifts. I understand that Kelly will
need someone else, or do you choose to have an assistant?"
"Kelly will never need my side. Though she loved me in my male body, she is
bisexual, and we do need each other still. Leaving her behind, even if she
never remembers a thing seems wrong, although i am being mostly self-centered
in that regard. I love her now in ways unexplainable in words. But even with
my enhanced mind and the ability to see the future, I cannot let the little
girl i saved die."
"I don't need to tell you to be careful." The old man sighed. She wasn't even
close to his level of understanding of fate, she would have to see for
herself.
"Kelly and i will be leaving in the morning. I plan on finishing school
through college. It's gonna be tough with my duties, but i can manage.
"Don't worry about your duties just yet. Enjoy yourself. Go to College, have
some fun. All work and play makes jacky a dull boy, does it not?"
Allison laughed at the reference to The Shineing. " Still i will have a lot
of Emergency cases to deal with. And if you ever need a hand just mind speak
me. I Owe you one.
"Will do. Goodnight. and Good Luck with your first case. I believe its a boy
in your school with a habit of dressing himself in his mothers clothes"
"Goodnight, Old man. Happy trails to you."
The Stargirl levitated for the first time up into the loft and rejoined
Kelly. Climbing into bed, She hugged Kelly close, resting her lovely face
onto Kelly's soft and warm neck.
She Slept, perchance to dream.
