As all three of them hopped into the car and headed on their way Mrs. Alice spoke up, "I have some last minute preparations to make before the show, but I'll drop the two of you off at the mall. This way the two of you can get some shopping in and maybe a bite to eat, and Jimmy, I made an appointment for you at the salon, which you need to go to first. But please make sure you get in some practice before they close down the rink to prepare for the show. I will meet you and the rest of the girls in the changing room and prepare for the show. After a short ride to the mall, Mrs. Alice dropped Jimmy and Anne at one of the main entrances to the mall. After going in and out of two stores, they purchased Jimmy three pairs of shoes, one of which were clogs which he was now wearing. In fact they were identical to the clogs Anne was wearing. Anne purchased a tan open toe dress shoe and since that particular style shoe had a sale of buy one get the second at half price, she convince Jimmy to get his own pair. The third pair were a set of Mudd brand shoes, with a platform sole and heel. With the clogs Jimmy's attire was now complete. They now went on their way to the salon when Aunt Alice called Anne's cell phone and asked Anne to meet her at the other side of the mall. As Anne and Jimmy entered the salon, the only lady in the store quickly recognized Anne and gave a warm welcome. "Hi, Mrs Donna, this is Kate-Lynn, who my mom made and appointment for." Here he was, standing in a salon and about to get something done which he didn't know anything about. But before he could dwell upon his predicament, Donna stared up some small talk, while ushering him to a chair near the back of the store and then handed him a clip board with a piece of paper on it and asked him to fill it out. As Donna walked away, Jimmy read the small slip of paper which asked to check which type of brow treatment he wanted as well as some other general questions about himself. He was careful to answer the questions as though he was a girl, but was not sure which brow treatment to check. Not wanting to reveal he didn't understand the question for it could bring on suspicion, he checked the very first box, which was most likely the most basic treatment and handed it back to Donna. Donna looked at him for a moment and said, "Well, I guess you're serious. One electrolysis treatment coming up." In a few minutes Jimmy found himself staring up at the ceiling with Donna hovering over him with some sort of device which seemed to be pricking a warm needle into him. Some time went by when suddenly Donna brought up the back of the chair and she stepped back looking with serious intensity at his face. Once satisfied, she stated, "Just one little adjustment, and I think we're finished." And with that she pulled out a comb and a pair of shears from her pocket and gave a quick swipe of the comb through Jimmy's bangs and gave three or four clips with the sheers. Then Donna rolled up his bangs with a curling iron. With a big smile Donna propped up the mirror for Jimmy's inspection. He was not prepared for what he saw. His brows were much thinner and now had a sweeping arch. They certainly gave a new look to his face, a girlish look at that. Which was further accented with his bangs being cut straight across and shaped with a inward curl. It was at that moment he noticed Anne standing to the side and she stood there with a surprised look and wide eyed. "Holy cow Kate-Lynn, what a difference, it really changes your face... Something Jimmy picked up on, but was unable to react with Donna's presence. Donna, taking Anne's statement as a compliment to her abilities beamed and stated, "Well, it's not often someone so young gets electrolysis, but when they do, the results are stunning." "Electrolysis, you got electrolysis done?" Anne inquired with a loud concerning voice. Jimmy knew something was up but wasn't sure what. Jimmy quickly paid for the treatment and headed out of the salon so he could find out why Anne's voice was raised with concern. Upon exiting the salon, both Anne and Jimmy walked silently past a few stores and as they approached one of the stores Jimmy knew they were going to enter, Jimmy stopped and put his hand on Anne's arm to stop her. Anne reluctantly stopped and turned towards Jimmy. It was at that point Jimmy could see that Anne was showing signs of concern and before Jimmy could ask anything, Anne spoke with a sorrowful tone, "Ohh, Jimm, I mean Kate-Lynn, it is all my fault, I shouldn't have left you, I am sooo sorry." This caused some anxiety for Jimmy, for it confirmed there is something wrong, but he sill did not know what it was. "What is the matter, I don't understand?" replied Jimmy. "You got an electrolysis brow treatment, Kate-Lynn... when you get electrolysis it's permanent!" exclaimed Anne. Even with that being said, Anne could see Jimmy just wasn't comprehending what she was saying. So Anne was more to the point on her second attempt. A few moments passed, with the two of them gazing at one another. Jimmy then lifted up his right hand and probed his eyebrows with his fingers and absentmindedly said, "Forever?" Which was silently acknowledged with the nod of Anne's head. With a slight smirk Jimmy calmly said, "Well, at least I like the way it makes me look." And with that they both laughed like two girls which cleared the air of any concerns and headed into the store. At this point Jimmy realized that he was at peace with himself and was enjoying the moment. He was surprised on how natural all of this seemed. He thought for sure when he went shopping for girl clothing he would be nervous. Instead he couldn't wait to browse and try things on with his best friend Anne. After some time passing, both Anne and Jimmy tried on many articles of clothing. In the end, with Anne's help, Jimmy decided on three outfits, two of which went well with the new clogs and the third would go well with the Mudd brand shoes. The first was his personal choice, which was a short, pre-washed, off white skirt that was free flowing and zippered on the side. With the skirt he got a light blue pull over shirt which could be worn normally or off the shoulder. The second outfit was influenced by Anne. It was a forest green corduroy jumper that fell just above the knee. With the jumper they got a deep burnt orange long sleeve turtle neck which went under the jumper. Jimmy was not overly fond of the color burnt orange, but as Anne pointed out, the jumper and turtle neck combo was perfect for autumn. The third was a bit more formal and was a short black pleated skirt which flared out giving a graceful appearance. The top looked like two separate pieces, but were actually one. It consisted of a snug dressy white collared shirt which buttoned down to the v-neck of the deep red sweater. The sweater was long sleeve and at the ends, there were white cuffs which folded back onto the sweater. A sharp looking outfit. Along with these outfits Jimmy picked out three sets of bras, one was strapless, and matching panties, some stockings and for some reason Anne insisted he get a short slip. Anne also piled on two night outfits. At the last minute Jimmy spotted a rack of fun type tights. One pair in particular caught his eye and as soon as he saw them he knew they would go well with the jumper. They had on them leaves and ivy with different muted autumn shades with several shades of dark green and burnt orange. Anne agreed they were the perfect touch for the jumper. While checking out Anne caught Jimmy off guard by pointing to the white skirt and blue blouse and asking the cashier, "Can she put on this outfit now and wear it out of the store?" "You sure can, go right in there," said the cashier gleefully and pointing to the changing room behind her. While in the changing room, Jimmy heard someone entering the area and then heard Anne say, "Here Kate Lynn, put these on." And he saw Anne's hand tossing over the door the matching sleeveless bra and panty set. Once figuring out the adjustments to the bra and pulling off the tags, Jimmy was in his new outfit. As he gazed in the mirror he couldn't believe how natural this all felt to him and for the first time in his life the reflection in the mirror reflected his true self. However, as he stared at the reflection it occurred to him we was about to step out into the mall and the skirt he was wearing may be a little too short. This prompted Jimmy to step out of the changing room and ask, "I think it may be a little too revealing. What do you think?" Anne crunched up her nose and said, "Nah, it looks good, our mom's may think it's too short, but it's not." Then ended the sentence with a wide eyed enthusiastic quip of, "I can't wait to see the reaction of the twins when they see you!" This comment stirred up the butterflies in Jimmy's stomach which Anne picked up on and quickly tried to change the topic with, "Well, after all this shopping I'm hungry, let's go to the food court." As they headed their way to the food court, the butterflies continued to flutter about in Jimmy's stomach and was becoming worried. Anne could tell he was concerned and Anne broke the silence. "Kate-Lynn, don't worry about Dan, he knows how much this means to me and thinks it's cool your helping out this way. So he's not going to bother you. In fact I think things will go along better between Kate- Lynn and Dan than they do for Jimmy and Dan." Anne stopped for a moment and turned to Kate-Lynn and asked, "Does that make sense to you?" Jimmy continued to walk slowly and then turned back to Anne and he was obviously holding back some deep emotions, but was working up the courage to say what he was feeling. And today it seems everything I do I'm thinking of Scott. When you finished my makeup, I said to myself, Scott will like this. When I got this outfit, I got it knowing Scott would like it. All of this is so confusing. At times I wonder if I'm queer. At one moment I hate the thought of being queer and then the next I don't care if I am queer, and then the next moment I'm yelling inside what the hell is going on with me!" However he did not dwell on it for it was their turn to place an order for lunch. With lunch trays in hand they were deciding on a place to sit. Scott sat across from Jimmy and as they settled into a discussion. After about five minutes into eating Dan broke into the discussion and looking directly at Jimmy he said, "You know Kate, I knew you were ..." "DAN, don't you dare!" As lunch was ending Dan and Anne got up to get some ice-cream.
