FINALLY got more stuff written down... hopefully this time I get can things out more readily, the next few chapters have already been written, just need to do some editing before posting. Hope you enjoy! The Life and Times of Bethany Clark by LaMystika ([email protected]) Chapter 5 - Birthday Afternoon "Hey girl!!" That was the greeting I received upon entering the hair salon. I greeted my stylist, Monica, with a hug. "Here for the usual, Beth?" "Yeah, but I would also like to get my hair styled the relaxer is done. I would like to get some big soft curls done. I know that's extra; I can afford it." During the appointment, I engaged in small talk with the other girls. When I first started getting my hair done, I had it done as a male; back then, I feigned disinterest and spoke only when spoken to; even though I wanted to join in the conversation, I was afraid that I would out myself before I was ready to do so. When I became a full-time female, however, it was liberating that I was included in the conversation. It was one of the little things that helped me with my confidence. It helped me feel that I truly belonged. The entire procedure took a little over two hours (mainly due to the length of my hair), but I loved the end result: my new hair growth was relaxed, and not completely bone straight, but with soft curls. I didn't have bangs, but my hair perfectly framed my face. I gave Monica another hug, paid for the service, and after going back to give Monica a tip, I headed back home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- I came home to see Will sitting on the couch watching the afternoon basketball game. He was only wearing a t-shirt and jeans, and didn't seem like he was at all ready to go out for dinner. Then again, I really wasn't either. "So, big brother," I began, "Who's winning?" "The Spurs, as usual," Will replied. He then looked up to take a look at his sister. "Wow, sis," he exclaimed. "Your hair looks nice." I blushed a little bit. I really didn't think he'd notice. "Thanks," I said, trying (and failing) to keep a smile from widening on my lips. Acceptance is truly a wonderful thing, I mused to myself. "Sooo... Where are we going to eat? Someplace nice? Casual?" Will stood up and placed his hands on my shoulders. I never realized how big his hands were until then. I remember the last time I hung out with Alicia as a boy; she kept going on about how her hands were slightly bigger than mine. I guess I always was a bit dainty. "It's a surprise," Will replied coyly. "But dress nice. It'll be fancy." "Ooh, fancy huh?" I asked. "I have just the thing for fancy." I had a mischievous grin on my face. "Great," Will exclaimed. "Now if you don't mind, I need to borrow your car. I have to go confirm the reservation, and I know you need your privacy to get dressed up." I fished my car keys out of my purse and tossed them to my brother. "Take your time, bro. I'll need about an hour or so." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Will took off for the restaurant while I got ready for my birthday dinner. I locked the door and quickly disrobed. I carefully bundled my hair up, trying to maintain the style, and held it there with clips and pins. I went to the bathroom and drew up a bath, throwing in a couple of bath bombs to make it fragrant. I then put on a headwrap and stole a look at my bathroom mirror. A huge grin crept up across my face; I looked like a normal woman about to take a bath. I still can't believe that this is really me. It's everything I've ever wanted. I lowered myself into the bathtub and began to soak, being careful to keep my head above water and not let my hair get wet. It was one of the few things I had truly cherished; I began growing it out even before I started hormone therapy. Unlike most women I knew, I took care of my hair, and took great pride in the fact that I did not wear wigs or hair extensions; my hair was all my own. The only negative is that I really can't afford to get it wet. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad. After staying in the bath a bit too long, I finished washing up, emptied the bathtub, and dried myself off. For reasons that I couldn't completely articulate, I stepped out of the bathroom completely naked and, after making sure that my front door was double locked, I began to prance about my tiny apartment wearing nothing but the big beaming smile on my face and my headwrap covering my hair. I don't know why, but this feels good. I fired up my laptop, turned on iTunes, turned up the volume on the speakers I had plugged in and began playing music on a playlist I made a few weeks prior. I guess I should get dressed now, I thought to myself. Going back to the bathroom, I rubbed moisturizing lotion all over my body, then rubbed in baby oil to give my body a nice shine. My body looked incredible; especially my super long legs, which looked incredibly soft and smooth. This was part of my usual "dress to the nines" routine, and I wasn't about to alter it just because my brother was here. Going back to my underwear drawer, I pulled on a pair of black panties, then found my black bra with the removable shoulder straps. Unhooking them from the bra, I wrapped the bra around my chest, closed the clasp and fixed my breasts so that they fit into the cups of the bra. Next, I fished a little black dress from out of my closet. It was a simple design - just a simple tank dress - but I had gotten it before I started taking hormones, and I slightly underestimated exactly how much my hips would fill out. They were about 2 inches wider than I thought they would become, so the dress was tighter than I intended it to be, and after I zipped up the back of the dress, it clung tightly to my toned body. It was also low cut, so it had the bonus effect of showing off my cleavage. This dress was absolutely incredible, and it fit me just like a second skin. It clung to me like it was giving me a hug, and it showed off my curves perfectly. Not just my aforementioned cleavage, but also the hem that showed off my creamy thighs and accentuated my... bootylicious ass. I stared at myself in my full- length mirror for a good 5 minutes, posing and squeezing my boobs together. But then I started mulling over whether I should even wear a dress like this out to dinner with my brother. I wonder if this dress makes me look too slutty? Hmm... I guess I'll ask Will when he comes back home. I decided that I was going to wear the dress, and that was the end of my personal debate. Going over to my vanity, I sat down to put on my evening makeup. A bit of foundation and blush, then I applied smoky eyeshadow to my eyes, and prettied up my already long lashes with mascara. After a bit of lipstick and lip gloss, I stared at myself in my mirror and tossed my hair about. I looked absolutely scrumptious. I put on a silver necklace that rested above my cleavage, and a few rings and bracelets adorned my hands and wrists. A few sprays of perfume and I was set. Well, except for one thing. Going back into my closet, I pulled out a pair of black peep toe slingback pumps with 4" heels. I set the shoes next to my bed, deciding not to put them on just yet. I went back to the closet, pulled my brother's gift out of the closet, and put it on the floor next to my shoes. With all that finished, I sat down on the couch and turned the playoff game on. Before long, Will came back and skulked off to the bathroom to get dressed. He didn't even notice me or what I was wearing, so I paid him no mind and went back to watching the game. He emerged from the bathroom roughly twenty minutes later and he was, as usual, dressed nice. He had a nice white button down shirt and a black sportscoat and blue jeans. He had black shoes on, but I couldn't tell what kind they were. "You look nice," I said to him. "So do you," Will replied, finally looking at me. "Once again, when you were my brother I don't think you gave two shits about what you wore, but now you actually look presentable." "Girls have to make more effort," I said sticking my tongue out at him, "or else we get called disparaging names. Did it ever occur to you that before my transition I tried to make myself unattractive to women on purpose?" Will let out a loud sigh. "I should've known." I uncrossed my legs and stood up from the couch. Smoothing my dress out, I did a little turn to show him the whole ensemble. "Is it too much?" I asked with a hint of an extra girlish lilt in my voice. "No, not at all." "Is my dress too short?" "Nope, it looks fine sis. Stop worrying about it, 'cause I know you are." Always the mind reader, I thought to myself. "Oh yeah, almost forgot... I got your present ready." I went over to my bed and picked up the white box off the floor and gave it to him. "Go ahead, open it." Will didn't need to be told twice as he pulled the tape off of the box and opened it up. I actually had gotten him a few things: a few trinkets from my job, as well as a silver wristwatch. The face had a backlight and had a few diamonds on it. It was a bit expensive, but I could afford it. I did a far better job of managing money than I ever did in my previous male life, so instead of barely getting by paycheck to paycheck, I know had a tidy sum in savings even after buying my brother's gift. At the bottom of the box was a handmade card I made for him. The message read simply, "To my brother the hero, thank you for standing in my corner. I am forever in your debt." "Wow Bethany," Will said in a slight state of shock. "This is really nice. I can't believe you did this for me. Thanks a lot." He put the watch on straight away, and he secured the clasp. It fit perfectly. "I got you something too," he said, going over to his bag. He put the box I gave him in the bag and pulled another box out of the bag and handed it to me. "Happy birthday sis," was all he said. I opened the box and found a silver necklace adorned with diamonds and a charm bracelet. There was a card with it, and it read "To my sister, thank you for finally showing me the real you. I'm sorry if you felt you couldn't tell me this all sooner, but know that I will always be there for you no matter what." I somehow managed to suppress every urge I had to cry. "This is so beautiful, thank you so much," I said deliriously happy. I went over to my bed, and switched my necklace with the one my brother gave me. I also took off my bracelets and put the charm bracelet on my left wrist and a watch on my right. "That looks great on you sis," Will said. "So shall we get going?" "One more thing," I answered, and I went to my closet and pulled out my camera tripod. Setting it up and placing my digital camera on it, I set the timer on the camera and ran over to my brother. We posed for a picture as the flash went off, and I went to the camera to check the picture. It looked lovely, but I wanted another one. After taking another picture, I promised Will that I would upload the pics once we got home. "Ready to go now sis?" Will asked again. "Just a bit, bro," I replied. "Go on ahead and start the car; I'll be down in a second." Will headed out and I went to make sure I had everything in my purse. After confirming that I did, I took my daily hormone pill, strapped my heels on and headed out the door, locking it behind me. I was going to my birthday dinner.

The Life and Times of Bethany Clark Chapter 2 Twintuition

The Life and Times of Bethany Clark written by LaMystika ([email protected]) Chapter 2 - Twintuition The drive to the airport was an uneventful one, and I pulled my car up next to the curb where the parking meters were. Putting a dollar's worth of quarters into the meter, I messaged my brother that I had arrived and wanted to know which terminal he was in so I could pick him up. The tension was extremely thick as I walked across the airport. I kept waiting for a text from...

The Life and Times of Bethany Clark Chapter 1 Bethany

The Life and Times of Bethany Clark written by LaMystika ([email protected]) Chapter 1 - Bethany Damn it, I'm a nervous wreck. That was pretty much the only thing running through my mind since my lunch break. Where I had feelings of excitement and contentment earlier today, they have since been replaced with nervousness, even as I was driving home from work one Friday afternoon. I was constantly fidgeting in my seat, trying to keep my seatbelt nestled in between my breasts...

The Life and Times of Bethany Clark Chapter 7 In the Club

The Life and Times of Bethany Clark by LaMystika ([email protected]) Chapter 7 - In the Club Even though I had agreed to go out to the club, I was still beyond terrified when we all actually made it to the parking lot. I was afraid of meeting some guy, him somehow finding out I was born male, and then trying to keep him from trying to beat me up, rape me, or even kill me. It may even be slightly irrational fear, but that fear is what has kept me from even trying to date,...

Been a while since I last submitted stuff... real life got in the way... I'm a college student again || Anyway, hope to get things out on a regular schedule again soon. The Life and Times of Bethany Clark by LaMystika ([email protected]) Chapter 4 - Leon After we got back home, Will immediately collapsed on my couch, and comically let out his belt. "Man, I forgot how good IHOP's French toast was," Will said, trying to stick out his belly. "Hmm, I suppose you haven't...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 59 Three Birthdays Two Jobs and a Play Part III

April 1981, Milford, Ohio The rest of the week went along as usual, with Kara accompanying me to the computer lab, and me going on my date with Elyse. Kara didn’t raise the issues that were clearly spinning around in her head, but I knew she would, eventually. I did pull Mary and Tracey aside separately and ask them to be careful about their teasing and joking around Kara. They both agreed to tone it down a bit, which I figured was the best I could do. On Tuesday when I arrived home, I had...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 57 Three Birthdays Two Jobs and a Play Part I

March/April 1981, Milford, Ohio I had half-expected Stephanie to sneak into my room on Sunday night, but to my combined relief and regret, she didn’t. We were up early to swim and she once again looked around for any observers and gave me a quick kiss. “I missed sleeping with you last night, Big Brother,” she whispered. “I wanted to come to your room, but I knew it was too dangerous!” “We’ll find some time, Squirt, I promise!” “Good!” she whispered, “My pussy feels so empty!” “Just your...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 58 Three Birthdays Two Jobs and a Play Part II

April 1981, Milford, Ohio On Saturday morning, after swimming and breakfast, Stephanie and I started setting up for Bethany’s birthday party. We were doing it at lunchtime because I would be in the play that evening. Stephanie and I were invited to her house on Sunday for her family celebration as well. I was happy the day had turned out nice, given we were planning on grilling hamburgers. I loaded the charcoal into the grill, and then Stephanie and I formed the hamburger into patties. I...

Bethany Bentons Birthday Surprise

It was Wednesday. That meant that we'd have Robert over for dinner again. Robert is a black man who's supposed to be a friend of my parents, but I know that isn't true. He's been the only black man we've ever had visit us. Funny, I've Dad argues with Mom over Robert's visits, and it always ends the same way—Robert comes to visit us anyway. I didn't understand Mom's insistence that Robert come to dinner on Wednesdays, or that we had to be home to have boring old dinner with them that day, but...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 61 Prom and Pomp and Circumstance Part II

May 1981 — Milford/Cincinnati, Ohio “Steve Adams, I promised to fuck you to within an inch of your life, and that’s what I’m going to do. If you can walk out of this hotel tomorrow morning, I’ve failed!” “I do need to be able to walk out, as well as drive home!” I protested with a laugh. “True. So maybe only to within two inches. Or is it just over six?” she giggled. “Cute, Bethany, cute!” I chuckled. “And,” she smirked, licking her lips with the tip of her tongue, “I have a very special...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 27 Homecoming

September/October 1980, Milford, Ohio On Sunday after I called Karin, I had my weekly ‘play date’ with Debbie V, and she helped me pick out a gift for Karin, as her birthday was coming up and I wanted to send it so she could get it in time. I spent the rest of the day with Beth, working on computer dating and programming stuff. Bethany had come over for a few hours in the afternoon and hung out with us. I also let Beth know that the following Sunday we’d only have a short day because I had a...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 34 The Problem of Being Me

November 1980, Milford, Ohio On Thursday, I had my usual date with Elyse. We were still just good friends, and I didn’t expect that to change anytime soon. On Friday, Bethany and I went to dinner at Ponderosa and had steaks and baked potatoes. Once we finished, I paid, and we walked quickly to the car, driving straight to the apartment. We had our clothes off in seconds after closing the door. “I need you to fuck me silly,” Bethany growled. I pulled her to me and kissed her hard, our...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 4 ElyseChapter 7 Bethany

March 4, 1990, Chicago, Illinois “Well?” Kara asked with a smirk as she, Jessica, and I sat down to a quiet dinner in the ‘Indian’ room. “About as wild as could be. I was more than a little concerned by Abbie’s plan, but in the end, when she told me why, it made perfect sense.” “What was her reasoning?” Jessica asked. “She felt that it had to be raw sex and nothing more, because otherwise Becka would never have left.” Kara giggled, “Abbie seems to get smarter every day.” “I never had a...

October 4, 1986, Chicago, Illinois Later that evening, I told Bethany that Kara and Jessica had agreed to the date, and that I’d made the reservations. She stayed in with Kara and me, and we watched television and ate popcorn. Tasha had come for her usual homework session, but had left immediately afterwards, saying that she was going home so that she could go to church on Sunday morning. “Anyone interested in a sauna?” Josie asked. “Sure,” I said. “Is Jesse joining us?” “Yes! A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 19 Real Problems

September 1980, Milford, Ohio At school on Monday, Erin came to find me at my locker. “You didn’t ask me out, Steve!” “I’m sorry,” I said, closing my locker. “I’ve been really busy. But we could go out for dinner and ice cream on Tuesday or Thursday?” “Thursday is fine! I do have to be home by 9:00pm.” “I’ll pick you up around 5:00pm.” In Miss Barkhurst’s class, we had our first dissection — earthworms. I got a kick out of who had problems with handling them and who didn’t. The funniest...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 31 Fallout a Party and a Dance Part I

October/November, 1980, Milford, Ohio I didn’t know for sure what to expect when I walked into chemistry class on Wednesday. I had tossed and turned in bed and hadn’t slept well because I couldn’t get the situation with Kara out of my head. It was going to be a mess, no matter what happened. That was the only thing I was sure of. “Hi, Steve,” Kara said quietly. “Hi, Kara,” I answered, not looking her in the eye. “What’s wrong?” “I told you last night what was wrong and what would...

April 19, 1986, Chicago, Illinois After the party ended, Jessica, Kara, and I went up to our room to talk. “Now may I ask the question?” Kara said, looking at me for approval, which I gave with a nod. “Jess,” she continued, “please don’t get upset, but it seems like you’re trying to goad Steve into doing something just so you can beat him up for doing it.” “Why would I do that?” Jessica asked. I found it interesting that she didn’t deny it. That revelation meant that the conversation...

Submissive Cum Laude Chapter 1 Mistress Bethany

It had been an adjustment for Alex, moving across the pond to the states. The longer he was here the more benefits he noticed to being a young British man in “the colonies.” His accent afforded him an odd degree of respect that he never would've commanded at home. He had been complimented by no shortage of women who loved the sound of his voice. Alex had done his best to curtail his use of typical British slang. He liked that people knew he was foreign, but he didn't want to stick out like...

October 1, 1992, San Francisco, California “We need some ground rules,” I said. “Oh no you don’t!” Bethany growled. “You are NOT talking me to death. Fucking me to death, yes! Talking me to death, no!” “I’m serious. Sit, please.” Bethany reluctantly moved to the loveseat in the sitting room of our suite at the Mark Hopkins InterContinental Hotel on Nob Hill in San Francisco. A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 62 Everything Changes

May-June 1981, Milford, Ohio I woke up on Friday morning with the song Efter Plugget going through my head. «Nu är det bara en sommar kvar Ungefärg 59 dar Så ska man göra som alla andra Man ska in i cirkeln och vandra» (Now there’s just a Summer left Just about 59 days Now I’ll do like everyone else and join the rat race) Of course, the song didn’t really apply, since I did have a plan and knew what I was going to do, but it still came to mind. I swam with Stephanie, then we showered...

June 15, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “What did Bethany have to say?” I asked Jessica as we showered together on Sunday morning. “We talked a lot about you, and about her, and how things had come to where they are now. I guess I helped make a mess of her life, so I feel a bit of an obligation to help put it back together.” “No way, Babe! August, 1985, Chicago, Illinois On Monday morning we had a short staff meeting because Dave and Julia weren’t back from their honeymoon. They’d return on Thursday, and things would get back to normal, at least at NIKA. September, 1980, Milford, Ohio Things with Bethany seemed normal on Thursday. After school, I helped Mrs. Seime with the YFU Exchange Program presentation. There were six sophomores who participated, and I spoke for about five minutes about my experiences and answered questions. September 1980, Milford, Ohio I was up early as usual on Saturday morning. I swam with Stephanie and we ate breakfast together. I let Dad know I’d be out with Bethany most of the day and would be home just after midnight, which was well before my 1:00am curfew. If everything goes perfectly, I’ll get a nice goodnight kiss, and that’s it. A single kiss.” “Jeez, Steve, you’re really losing your touch!” she teased. “It’s not like I’m not having sex, Squirt. August 1980, Milford, Ohio Late on Wednesday evening Dad met my flight at Greater Cincinnati airport. He let me drive home so he could be sure I was ready to take my driving test. When we arrived home, he told me he was satisfied with my driving and he would take me to the BMV on Friday. September 1980, Milford, Ohio When I arrived home after my date with Joyce, Stephanie came to sit in my room and talk. “Hey, Squirt!” I said. “Hey, Big Brother,” she said, seeming a bit down. “What’s wrong?” “Oh, a few things. The most important one is that I’m worried about Bethany. I talked to her today, and she’s really fixated on the idea that you two are going to be married and live happily ever after. February 1981, Milford, Ohio Sunday followed the usual pattern of a call to Karin, swimming and breakfast with Stephanie, and then doing homework until Beth arrived. When Beth arrived, I talked with her about an problem that we’d have to solve, and probably soon. If she was at U of I and I was at IIT, we’d have no real way of providing support to our customers in and around Cincinnati. I suggested we find a Freshman or Sophomore to help us over the Summer and after we went to Chicago. “Why...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 35 Debbie V

November 1980, Milford, Ohio I woke up with my alarm on Saturday, extremely tired, but in a far better mental state. I met Stephanie in the pool and she easily lapped me several times. I was sore and exhausted from the previous night’s swim, but I struggled through my usual 50 laps. When we finished, I took a long, hot shower before meeting Stephanie for breakfast. “Are you going to take my advice, Big Brother?” “Well, I’m going to talk to Bethany for sure. I’ll call her at 9:00am and ask...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 49 Revelation

February 1981, Milford, Ohio Sunday was Krista’s first day with Beth and me. I noticed that Stephanie hung out with us far more than usual. I suspected that she was keeping an eye on Krista because everyone knew Krista had been flirting with me the whole year. She had just turned fourteen, which meant that my age restriction rules wouldn’t apply. I found it amusing that the girls were analyzing all the threats. It was almost like the military assessing enemies and preparing contingencies....

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 43 Firsts Part IV

January 1981, Milford, Ohio On Monday, when I sat down beside Kara in chemistry class, she reached over and squeezed my hand. “Kara, let’s have lunch, I need to tell you what happened on Saturday.” “OK. I’ll meet you at the computer lab.” I dropped my hand to her knee and squeezed as the bell rang and Kara smiled. At lunch, I stopped to tell Bethany I’d be talking to Kara and then went to the computer lab. Kara arrived just about the same time I did. I unlocked the door, and we went...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 8 Tentative Steps

April 6, 1986, Chicago, Illinois It had been a wonderful ten days with Jessica in Chicago, and both Kara and I were sad to see her packing her things for her trip back to Indianapolis. We’d had a very good taste of what life would be like once Jessica was in Chicago full-time, but that was still more than a year away. Between now and then, we’d be apart more than we were together. “We’ll miss you, Babe,” I said as I put her bag into the back seat of her car. “I’ll miss you both! I’ll see...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 17 Senior Year Begins

August 1980, Milford, Ohio On Monday morning, Stephanie and I got up early enough to swim and eat breakfast together. Stephanie was starting eighth grade, so she’d be riding Bus #8 with me. Unfortunately, Jeff was also on the same bus, but I didn’t really worry to much about that because of what I planned to do. My first order of business, when I got to school, would be to get a parking pass which Seniors could get automatically just by asking. I also knew that Mom would then insist that I...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 12 Self Discovery With Some Help

May 17, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “Dance with me!” Leila insisted when I came into the sunroom. I took her hand and led her to the dance area, then took her into my arms. “When do you leave for home?” I asked. “Tuesday. I’ll be back in August. Thanks for letting us move in!” “You’re welcome,” I said. “So does everyone who lives here get privileges?” she whispered. I chuckled, “Dave lives here, so I think the answer to that is a resounding ‘no’!” She laughed, “You know what I...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 18 Bethany

August 1980, Milford, Ohio I rang the bell and Bethany opened the door a few seconds later. We got in the car and I pulled out of the driveway. “Where to, Bethany?” “That depends. Do you want to eat or should we just go straight to making love?” she giggled. “Let’s eat and talk, which is what you said we would do.” “You still aren’t sure.” “That’s right. What do you want to eat?” “Let’s go to my dad’s country club! You’re dressed OK in slacks and polo.” “I wondered why you had on a...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 38 Skiing and Skating

December 1980, Milford, Ohio and Boyne Mountain, Michigan The rest of December followed the pattern that had been set at the beginning of the month, but now Debbie was seeing Phillip every Saturday. I didn’t invite Kara out because I wanted her to think things through, but I saw her in chemistry class and at lunch and told her that we would talk after I returned from Columbus. On Saturdays, I had lunch with Bethany and hung out with Larry during the evening. It was good to hang out with...

A WellLived Life Book 10 The WifeChapter 4 Bethany and Jennifer

St. Stephen’s Day, 1984, Indianapolis, Indiana I went to see if Ed had returned and found him and my sister sitting with Kara. Ed looked even happier than he had earlier, so I assumed my sister had properly thanked him. “She’s awake, but groggy,” I said. “She has no idea what happened, though. Ed, why don’t you go see her?” “Thanks!” he replied, giving Stephanie a quick kiss. “I see you properly thanked him!” I teased, after he left. She laughed, “I did. Twice!” “You weren’t gone THAT...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 29 Kara and Tracey

October 1980, Milford, Ohio Thursday and Friday were normal and Dona didn’t bother Bethany. I was glad, but I was a bit concerned that there would be more fallout. I hoped that wouldn’t be the case, but experience told me that there might be. On Friday morning, the Student Council started handing out the computer dating sheets. I got mine and wasn’t surprised to see Bethany at the top of the list. Kathy and Mary were fourth and fifth, respectively, and Erin was ninth. The rest were a mix of...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 32 Katy and Kenneth

November 3, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “Ugh,” Jessica groaned when her alarm clock went off at 4:00am. The three of us had agreed that Kara would stay in bed and that I would get up with Jessica and eat breakfast with her. We left a soundly sleeping Kara in bed, and while Jessica showered and quickly dressed, I went downstairs to make breakfast. “You didn’t have to get up with me, Tiger,” she said as I served her bacon and eggs. “I’m going back to bed once you leave,” I grinned. “Do you plan...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 60 Prom and Pomp and Circumstance Part I

April/May 1981 — Milford/Cincinnati, Ohio When I woke up on Sunday morning, I called Karin, then swam and ate breakfast with Stephanie. When Dad got up, I thanked him profusely for allowing the party and for keeping Mom away from us. He told me he was quite pleased with our behavior, and that, as he’d expected, there had been no fights, no booze or drugs, and that we’d left everything spotless. He warned me that Mom might say something to me about it and reminded me to just keep my cool. I...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 39 Out With the Old in With the New

January 1981, Milford, Ohio On Friday morning, I called Kara as I had promised. We agreed to go out on Saturday evening. After completing my call to Kara, I called Bethany to see if she wanted to have lunch or dinner. “Both!” she said. “As long as your sister can come with us.” “Don’t trust yourself alone with me?” I quipped. “That will be the day, Steve Adams! Just pick me up around 11:00am.” “See you then!” I went to find Stephanie and let her know she was going out with Bethany and...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 50 Myth and Reality

February 1981, Milford, Ohio On Wednesday, Kara simply smiled at me when I walked into chemistry class, rather than greeting me with a kiss. I knew that she and I had to have a long talk, so I didn’t let it bother me. I wasn’t quite ready to talk to her yet, thinking that Friday night would be best when we could be alone for an extended time. Of course, there was a question of whether or not she was willing to go out with me. “Kara, can I see you Friday night?” I asked. “Of course! We’re...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 40 The Fate of All Men

January 23, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “Hi, Peaches,” I said as she walked out of the Jetway door. “Hi, Yankee!” she said, flashing me a smile. She stepped aside and dropped her carry-on bag and I pulled her into a tight hug. I immediately started crying. “Damnit, Yankee! Don’t start that already!” she ordered. “You can cry later.” “But Peaches...” I protested. “But nothin’. Look at me.” I released her slightly so we could look in each other’s eyes. I fought back the tears and she...

May 26, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “I suppose that does solve the problem,” Dave said when I told him about Tom. “I’m just surprised he didn’t tell me when I talked to him.” “I guess he wanted to talk to me because it’s my company. Honestly, it’s not our focus and if we had inquiries in that area, I think we should send them to Tom. We need to put as much effort into our main software packages as possible. We have four now, and that’s a tall order with six full-time programmers and two...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 12 Truth and Consequences Part II

July-August 1980, Milford, Ohio On Sunday morning, Stephanie and I swam and ate breakfast before she went to church with mom. I had thought about going to church, but really had no interest in doing so. I suspected Mom would have had quite a bit to say about me going to church given my ‘sinful, immoral, and deviant’ lifestyle. It really wasn’t worth the trouble for something I didn’t think was all that important. I made my usual weekly call to Karin and had a nice chat with her. We couldn’t...

July 25, 1986, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee “Have a safe flight, Lyusya Alekseyevna,” I said as she picked up her carry-on to board her flight. “Thank you, Stepa. I will call you on Wednesday with my address. And thank you, Kara Alanovna!” “You’re welcome, Lyudmila!” Kara said. “Kara, may Stepa give me a proper kiss?” Kara smiled and nodded. I pulled Lyudmila into my arms and kissed her deeply. “Thank you for loving with me, Stepa. It was wonderful!” she whispered. “And...

A WellLived Life 2 Book 1 BethanyChapter 26 Restoration

September 5, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “What are you reading?” Elyse asked, coming into the ‘Indian’ room after I got home from karate. “Red Storm Rising, by Tom Clancy. He wrote the submarine book I read before, The Hunt for RED OCTOBER.” “What’s the book about?” “So far, the Russians are plotting a surprise attack on NATO and creating maskirovka - political cover - for the operation by bombing the Kremlin.” “Why would they do that?” “Muslim terrorists blew up the main Russian oil...

A WellLived Life Book 4 BethanyChapter 53 Spring Break Part I

March 1981, Milford, Ohio On Saturday morning, Stephanie and I swam, then ate breakfast. Dad loaded up the car for the drive to Myrtle Beach just after 9:00am. Mom tried one last time to talk him into making Stephanie go along, but he resisted, saying that he’d already told her she could stay. Mom objected vehemently to Stephanie being around me, but she knew that argument wouldn’t work with Dad. I hadn’t made any plans for Saturday, and Beth and I agreed we’d skip this Sunday’s work because...

January 26, 1987, Chicago, Illinois “Promise me something,” Stephie said as we waited for her flight to be called. “What’s that?” I asked. “Don’t try to come see me near the end. I want you to remember me this way.” “Peaches...” I protested. “I told you I was coming to say a proper goodbye. If it goes like I think it will, I won’t be in any condition to even know that you’re there. Just do this for me, please. Red will call you when it’s time. Now promise me.” I sighed deeply, “I...

September 15, 1986, Chicago, Illinois “When is Bethany moving in?” I asked Stephanie as we ate breakfast with Kara and Jessica. “In a couple of weeks,” she answered. “And you’re really OK with sharing a room with her?” “Yes. Jorge was a bit put out, but I explained everything to him and we’ll work it out. There’s always a guest room if I have an overnight guest!” “True. I really appreciate you doing this,” I said. “I don’t think it’ll be for too long.” “Oh?” “She and Nick. I’ll bet...

February 1981, Milford, Ohio I went and knocked on Stephanie’s door. She called out for me to come in, so I opened the door. She was sitting at her desk doing homework. “Do you have time to talk now, Squirt?” I asked softly. “Always for you, Steve. Always,” she said, getting up from her desk and following me to my room. I shut the door, and we sat side-by-side in the beanbag chairs. I held out my hand and Stephanie took it. I squeezed, and she squeezed back. “I think I’ve figured...

Z Facing the World and Getting PaidChapter 24 Bethany and Hank

I called Bethany. We made an appointment for Monday after 15:00. Both lawyers were in Florida finalizing some kind of contract for an Island firm. Any calls after 15:00 are handled by a service and directed or recorded as needed. I wrote a note to Fran but she arrived from school a few minutes before Bethany arrived. Fran knew the drill. Homework, be sure to eat something healthy and call Rick if you wish. Keep the laptop ready to receive phone calls. I introduced Bethany and Fran. “Fran,...

And we were never not friends, but everything that happened last year put a pretty serious strain on our friendship.” “She told me that you asked her to marry you and that she turned you down,” he said. I nodded, “I did. And she did. And as...

Becoming BethanyChapter Five

The ear piercing wasn't too painful...of course, the sting of my eyebrow waxing was still relatively fresh in my mind and overrode much of the additional discomfort. Bethany, the Claire's employee who performed the piercing, had a wonderfully gentle bedside manner, and Lisa and I bought each other matching bracelets before thanking her and promising to return for more as soon as my holes had healed. My toes began to ache as we walked through the mall back to Sak's. Just when...
