Beauty Salon Receptionist Person II
In my first installment, I detailed how I came to work as a beauty
salon receptionist assistant. Now, I want to detail how I became
increasingly feminine. It wasn't something I necessarily wanted. But
there was no escaping becoming 'one of the girls.'
After working for a year at the salon, it was time for my annual
review. Tammi, my boss, was to conduct the review with Rebecca, the
salon manager. As you know, Rebecca had once worked as my secretary.
I was hoping for a raise and maybe even some sort of promotion. But
they had something else in mind.
It was a little intimidating going to my first annual review. I wore
my work uniform?black tights, a pink smock, and sensible white clogs.
I chose a dab of perfume, some lip gloss, and some eye liner to
complete my look. My hair is in a cute, short bob. Cami recently gave
me some blonde highlights. I guess my appearance was on the
androgynous side?leaning towards the girlish. Rebecca and Tammi
preferred me this way, and this was not the day to change...
Rebecca greeted me as I entered her office. She was definitely dressed
for the occasion. She had on black thigh high boots with a tiny little
leopard print dress (if you could call it that). She looked like a
lingerie model from Maxim magazine. Every guy's fantasy dominatrix.
Tammi chose a more conservative business suit for her look. At 20,
Tammi looked like a hot college girl going to a job interview.
Instead, she was conducting my interview.
Rebecca said, "Dani, I am so proud of you. I think you did a great job
this year! I just love that you are now 'one of the girls.' It is
great that you are wearing lip gloss. If you had boobs, you could pass
for a woman." I was a little embarrassed by her comments. I still
considered myself to be a man?not an alpha male?but still a man.
Tammi added, "I like the way you have progressed. You will be getting
a small pay increase." I was relieved to be getting a raise.
Then, the office door opened and a young lady walked in. She was model
type pretty, but couldn't have been more than 17 or 18 years old.
Tammi introduced her as "Jennifer?the new head of the front desk." It
turns out that Tammi was not promoted to Rebecca's assistant. I was to
continue in my role, but as Jennifer's assistant. I was mortified by
the thought! My boss was this high school girl who I had never met?
Rebecca noticed my concern. She said, "Dani, when I was your
secretary, I got passed over for many promotions. Now, you will see
what it is like first hand. I am sure that you will be an obedient
assistant to Jen for the next few years. After all, she is only 17, so
I hope to keep her as your boss for at least the next 4-5 years." She
went on, "I think working for Jen will be a good experience."
Tammi and Rebecca left the office. I was now alone with my new boss.
Jen chimed in, "For your first task, it would be nice if you got us
some coffee. I take mine with cream and two sugar packets." She
giggled, "I expect you to bring me my coffee first thing every morning
from now on..."
As my former self, this would have been a horrendous turn of events.
But with my new feminine appearance and outlook, becoming Jen's
assistant was much easier to take. I was starting to know my role.
On Monday, Tammi began her job as Rebecca's assistant. She reminded me
that she was still my boss. But technically, I would be reporting to
Jennifer. And on Jennifer's first day, she called a meeting.
We all gathered around the front desk before the salon opened.
Jennifer came in wearing a tight blue sweater and those ripped jeans
that all the young girl's wear. Cami, Wendi, and the other girls
crowded around. Jennifer asked me for her coffee in front of
everyone. It was totally embarrassing, but everyone knew that I was to
be her assistant. I fetched her coffee the way she liked it.
Jen said, "You guys must be a little intimidated working for me because
I am only 17. But I promise to be a good, fair boss. Feel free to
show me things and bring in your ideas. I want the front desk to
become the best area of the salon. Dani will be my assistant, so let
her?I mean him know if you will be needing anything. Otherwise it will
be business as usual. By the way, I have ordered you all new uniforms.
I ordered cute black smocks and pink tights. And feel free to wear
skirts if you like."
Pink tights? How am I going to wear pink tights?
Well, working for Jen turned out to be OK. She was a little bossy, but
I got used to it quickly. She treated me like a 'girlfriend' at times.
I even painted her nails one slow day at the salon. I actually did a
good job. Jen encouraged me to wear more makeup. She liked seeing how
girly I could be?but I often had to remind her that I was a man.
It was sometimes embarrassing to be her assistant. One day, some
workmen were doing some drywall at the back of the salon. They were
chatting with me like I was the boss of the salon. It was nice to have
some guy talk. Then, Jen came out and introduced herself as my boss.
It was humiliating. She had me get them lemonade. She made a weird
comment when she asked me if I thought 'any of them were cute.'
One day, Jen asked me if I was still cleaning Derek's apartment.
Remember, Derek was Rebecca's boyfriend. I told her that since Derek
and Rebecca broke up?I was no longer needed. Phew!
Jen hinted to me that she could use me once a week to clean her room
and do her laundry. I said I would do it on Sunday. Jen lived with
her mother and I asked her to make sure that it was OK to have some
strange guy come over to clean her room. Jen said, "My mom knows all
about you. She would love to meet you! She would love to have a
housekeeper!"
