The Cookie Competition
Author's note - Thank you to all for your wonderful comments on my last
story "Deported". It was requested that I take this principal idea of a
"drastic life change" into another story. So this time we join James
who ultimately will have "got what he wanted" and in turn, "lost what
he had"! Enjoy...
James was your average run of the mill guy. Well perhaps not "run of
the mill", as you see James just wasn't happy with his life. At the
age of 38, he had established his own business in the world of IT
service and support. He even had 2 employees and was on the right track
to becoming a very lucrative technology company. Business wise, his
life was looking quite positive, yet he lived alone and had never had a
real relationship.
The secret he hid from the world was that he was transgendered.
Convinced in his own mind that he should have been born a female,
depression was something he simply learned to cope with. He knew his
place in society and eventually just accepted it. Transitioning was out
of the question. He just couldn't imagine going through the hardship,
time and expenses that becoming a woman would entail. And if being
honest with himself, he wasn't sure it was something he really felt
that passionate about. Yet the desire to be female never stopped.
Late one evening while reading some of his daily blogs, he read an
article about an on-line 3D virtual world called Second Life. The
service was free and all he had to do was sign up on the website,
download the software and begin his "Second Life" as a virtual avatar.
This was a chance to re-invent himself. For the first time, he could
present as a female! Granted just a "virtual" female, but a female none
the less! Setting up his Nintendo Mii character as a girl was
pleasurable but this was a whole different ball game. He was about to
interact with real people and from the sample of graphics he saw, these
avatars looked quite realistic.
With great anticipation, he completed the sign up process and came to
the page where he could choose his "default avatar". Two boxes stood
before him. One said male, the other said female. Without thought, he
clicked the female button and clicked NEXT. Now it was time to choose
the look of the avatar. From about 8 different options, he picked a
woman he felt best represented who he wanted to be. Next it was time to
name the avatar. For several minutes he contemplated what name he
wanted to be known as. Into the box he typed "Jennifer". And with that,
he had a new virtual identity!
His female avatar stood on the screen amongst a group of other brand
new residents to the virtual world. He navigated the camera all around
Jennifer examining every detail. To his eyes, she was beautiful and
perfect in every possible fashion. He began to navigate her around as
anticipation of his first interaction started to build. There was a
well balanced blend of men and women walking around and checking things
out. People were bumping into each other and falling off walkways with
a most ungraceful style. It was obvious that all these new users were
trying to figure out what all the buttons and controls did. James
laughed as he tried to not look as foolish as the rest of these newbs
but it didn't matter...they were all in this together!
A buff young man had figured out how to remove his clothes. Calling
himself TheDonald342, he approached James and typed "Yo Jennifer! Whatz
up!? How bout U and I GIT BIZZZZZY!" James was caught off guard by this
comment. Truth be told, he was actually offended by it and a little
upset that this would now be remembered as his first official
interaction with someone. "I've been in here for 5 minutes and already
some guy wants sex!" he thought to himself. Then he laughed when the
thought crossed his mind that somewhere sitting behind a keyboard was a
woman who just created a guy avatar just to act like some stereotypical
male. He thanked TheDonald342 for his offer, but told him he actually
had other plans. The Don moved on to the next piece of meat that caught
his eye. James just rolled his eyes from the experience he just had.
To everyone in the virtual world, he was a woman. As he discovered over
the next several hours, that is exactly how he was treated. It is known
that lots of people come to worlds like Second Life to role play the
opposite gender. James did not want to role play. He wanted to be
himself and speak from his heart. He did not want to be some guy trying
to act like a girl just to fool people.
As it turned out, typing as he always did, using grammar that was
natural for him and acting no different than he did in his real life,
he was accepted as a female. This filled his heart with warmth and
helped to validate that his feelings were always spot on. His
personality belonged inside a female and for the first time, he was
able to project it in a place it was accepted. No one knew his real
identity...and he LOVED it!
Over several months, James found himself logging into Second Life for
hours and hours. Tweaking his avatar Jennifer to perfection, he tried
new hair styles, new clothes, visited new places and made lots of in-
world friends. Being Jennifer truly became his Second Life and he
started to love it more than his first!
______________________________________________
A year flies by and not much in James's life has changed. He continued
to spend over half his day in the virtual world living as Jennifer.
There was finally a way that satisfied his feminine desires. UNTIL ONE
DAY... James was exploring a virtual town that had houses, streets, a
football field and what appeared to be an elementary school with
playground. He wandered into the playground and found a little girl
avatar sitting on a swing. She was about 3 feet tall and had her dark
brown hair pulled up in pig tails. She wore a little pink jumper dress
with white tights and a little black pair of Mary Janes. The little
girl typed "Hewoooo!" and James was perplexed. He had never seen a
child sized avatar before nor did he know it was even possible. "HI
Sweetie!" he typed back, knowing all the while that if this person was
presenting themselves as a child, that's how they wanted to be treated.
He spoke at length with the little girl and learned that she was four
years old and that her mommy and daddy lived in the house right across
the street. As his mind began to swirl with utter fascination, he
continued to press the little girl for more information. As it turns
out, there are thousands of Second Life residents that choose to spend
their time as children. And to his complete surprise, these kids can
get adopted by virtual parents looking to raise families.
James found a world inside Second Life he never knew existed. "So let
me get this straight...you can become a kid, get adopted, go to school
and play with your friends?" he asked. "Uh Huh!" the little girl
giggled as she took him to see one of the virtual world adoption
agencies. Within seconds, they arrived in a large room with pictures of
kids all over the walls. Would be parents stood there looking them over
and reading the information packet included with each photo. If parents
found a match to what they were looking for, an adoption could take
place. "I gots my famlee here overed a years ago," the little girl
typed. "I gotta git home now," she then said as they returned to the
playground from which they left.
Upon their return, James saw about twenty kids standing on the
sidewalk. Being both boys and girls, they appeared to be from many age
ranges and were all dressed in school uniforms. A teacher stood by the
door telling her class to hurry up and get inside. The little girl he
had been talking to was now also dressed in the same uniform. She
hugged him goodbye and got in line with the other students.
James sat at his keyboard and began to cry. He stared at the screen for
several minutes and just watched. He wanted this...he wanted this bad! He
said aloud to himself, "Oh my God! This is the one thing I thought I
would NEVER have! I would never know what it was like to grow up a
little girl!" And from that aspect, he was right! Even transgendered
adults who become females still have no way of going through childhood
again. Even though it's a virtual world, he could find parents who want
to raise a daughter. He could maybe have a little sister, or an older
one! He could get to wear adorable little outfits and maybe have a pink
bedroom!
He learned that Second Life was all about bringing fantasy into
reality, virtually speaking of course. Yet he struggled with the
oddness of having a bunch of adults role playing children. It seemed
bizarre yet at the same time, it also appeared quite common and
accepted in this context. He contemplated for several hours and finally
decided the force was too strong...he NEEDED to know what life as a
little girl would have been like. The door to his shop made a loud DING
sound as his attention was directed from the virtual world to the real
one. Molly stood at his counter with a frustrated look on her face.
Molly was a business client of his. She often had problems with her PC
and had it tuned up rather frequently. Molly and James knew each other
pretty well after all the times he went to her home to remove spyware.
Not to mention they went to school and graduated together. They weren't
really friends back then as James never made many friends during his
school days.
Molly was a divorced woman with an 8 year old daughter, Abby. Abby was
your typical "run of the mill" kid and was as cute as a button. She
had long straight blond hair and bright blue eyes. Like other kids her
age, she stood a little under 4 feet tall and was in the 3rd grade.
Abby's eyes were visible to James right at the countertop level. They
were squinted tightly and James knew she was beaming brightly even
though he couldn't see her mouth.
"Did you mess up mommy's laptop!?" James spoke with an inquisitive tone
as he stood up to look down over the countertop at Abby. She started to
giggle and replied, "NOPE! I didn't do nuttin'!" Molly rolled her eyes
and said "of course you didn't! That Spongebob game just happened to
install itself didn't it!?" Abby started laughing even harder.
"James, can you PLEASE get this working again as soon as possible?"
Molly begged. He could tell that she was frustrated. "Come on you
stinker... we need to hit our next stop" she said as she grabbed Abby's
hand and headed towards the door. Abby turned and looked back and said
"I'm really sorry James!" James laughed and assured them both that
everything would be just fine.
Sitting the laptop aside, James quickly logged back into Second Life
and continued on his quest. Except now he had a template to model his
new avatar after...little Abby. Using the editing tools, he swiftly
created a child avatar that closely resembled her in as much detail as
he could remember. There was no question that the real Abby was simply
adorable. His new avatar would be nothing less.
With the phrase "as giddy as a school girl" not being far from reality,
James gleefully went on a virtual shopping spree to deck out his new
avi. He sampled hundreds of adorable outfits and accessories. Now it
was time to venture out where other people were and face his first
interaction as 8 year old Jennifer.
The first stop was a "family friendly" area where both kids and adults
mingled. Someone who named herself "Jane Digital" approached him and
said "how old are you sweetie?". James melted right there at his
keyboard. For the first time ever, he was spoken to like a little kid
and he felt delighted. "Im 8 years old ma'am" he typed back to Ms.
Digital. "Do you want to come over and meet our family?" Jane replied.
James could hardly wait and responded with an "UH HUH!!"
Jane introduced him to her SL husband and two SL kids...one a 5 year old
boy and a 6 year old girl. He spent the next several hours getting to
know the Digital's. Over the course of the next several days, James
found himself logged into SL for almost 80% of the day. His work began
to stack up and he was finding himself addicted. He spent all his time
with the Digital family and finally Jane asked the question he was
longing to hear..."would you like to be adopted sweetie?"
This was a no brainer. James eagerly accepted and now he was someone's
daughter. He adopted their last name and became Jennifer Digital. To
him, this was the greatest role play on Earth! But he knew his real
world work was slacking and so he took time away from SL and tackled
some important things he had to do.
________________________________________________________
Molly and Abby returned to pick up their laptop and James was delighted
to see them both. As usual, Abby was beaming from ear to ear as she ran
up to the counter. James had actually learned a lot about kids from his
virtual family. He learned a lot about how parents talked to their kids
and got caught up on what kids are into these days. Abby was wearing a
little pink top with white hearts, black leggings, a pink and black
zip-up hoodie with a pair of black boots. James kneeled down to her and
said "I love your Uggs Abby!" Abby started rambling on about how these
boots were her favorite pair.
Molly grinned at James "since when are you into boots?" James blushed a
little and made something up quickly about seeing the fad on the news.
He grabbed a purple lollipop and told Abby "now don't mess up mommy's
laptop again OK!??" Abby quickly snagged the sugar treat and stuffed it
into her hoodie pockets. "No I wont James" she said swaying back and
forth with an innocent grin on her face. "But, there's a new Harry
Potter game I wanna play!" she said while looking up at her mom. Molly
gave her the look of disapproval. "If you do well on your math test
this week AND you let ME install the game, I'll see what we can do!"
Abby bounced up and down with excitement knowing too well that those
stipulations were quite obtainable.
Before they headed out, Molly asked James if he would like to purchase
any Girl Scout cookies that Abby's Brownie troop was selling. "It's a
major competition between all the girls this year" she said. "Even
between the Girl Scouts and the Brownies, the stakes are high for the
troop that sells the most. And the top seller in the top troop, wins a
trip to Disney World for her and her family!" James smiled at Abby and
told her he would take 20 boxes. Her eyes became huge and she did a
little dance right there on the spot.
Molly looked quite surprised and said "you don't really have to do that
James!" "I know" he said, "but it's for a great cause and for a great
kid!" Abby gave him a big hug and then they both headed out the door.
James knew that if it had not been for his time and experience in
Second Life, he would not normally have done something like that. Even
more so however, he was feeling a bond to Abby he had never felt
before. Was it that he was more on her level now? Was it that he
physically made his avi look like her? Was it that he felt the joy of
being a family? The answer was uncertain. But there was no mistaking
the fact that he now felt connected to her.
The more he thought about selling cookies, the more he thought of how
awesome that would have been to do when he was a kid. James was a Cub
Scout when he was 8 years old. He got to build a little wooden car to
enter in the Pinewood Derby. He got to turn pine combs into Christmas
ornaments. He got to hike on exploration trails in the woods...and he
hated all of it. The Girl Scouts were always meeting in the room across
the hall from where he had his meetings. The Brownies would sing along
with the older Girl Scouts as they made all kinds of artistic projects.
And of course, who could forget the door to door cookie sales!? James
would have preferred to be a Girl Scout. It simply wasn't an option.
After catching up on his work, James continued his SL adventures with
his SL family. It was still wonderful for him to get re-connected with
a child like spirit that he had long forgotten. But it was also magical
getting to do it again as a girl! One day he found himself shopping for
more pretty virtual clothes when he saw an advertisement on a poster in
one of the stores. "Become Your Avatar!" is all it said. "What a
strange yet intriguing sign" he thought. By clicking it, more details
appeared on the screen.
"You read correctly!! How would you like to look just like your
avatar?! With our state of the art software, you can make it reality!
Get the body you always wanted! Make your hair the perfect color!
Improve everything you hate about yourself! Make your Second Life your
FIRST! Order your software for iPhone or Droid today!"
James couldn't understand this. He decided to Google "Become Your
Avatar" and found very little matches. Then he stumbled across a
message board where a few people were talking about it. Some of the tag
lines read...
-Pure Bullshit! ~Sampson Harlinger
-I actually paid money for this thinking it somehow might be real... but
it wasn't ~Dot Parker
-It crashed my iPhone! ~Betty Bollinger
-Dude! OMG! You wont believe what I look like now! ~TheDonald342
-My SL and RL are now one in the same! ~Sammy J
-A fool and his money are soon parted ~CircusMan223 Johnson
-I lost 20 pounds in 5 minutes! ~Jill Vandersnoot
The opinions seemed to be all over the board. "Some people say it
worked while others slammed it pretty good" James thought to himself.
But without any hesitation, he clicked to purchase it and his Droid
immediately vibrated. The app had downloaded and was ready for
execution. He started it up and was greeted by the Disclaimer Screen:
"Thank you for purchasing iAvatar for Droid and iPhone! The makers of
this software will not be responsible for your use of this application.
You agree to use at your own risk. This application affects all users
differently and your use may not be typical. This app is for
entertainment purposes only and should not be used for illegal gain or
to falsify your identity in any public setting. Please make sure to not
remain as your avatar for over 4 hours. Exceeding this time limit can
cause permanent modifications to your body and can result in negative
side effects and possibly death. Please use responsibly."
James was getting rather excited until he got to the last section. He
was still convinced that this thing might be some sort of malware
designed to trick him into formatting his phone or something. He hit
CANCEL on the screen and slipped the phone back into its holster. Oh
well, it's not the first time he's pissed away money on bogus software.
__________________________________________
For several more weeks James continued spending time with his SL
family. He was getting good at being an 8 year old girl by now. Like
his sister and brother, he went to elementary school 3 times a week and
found that he actually did learn some things he either didn't know or
had long forgotten. So one day while he was sitting in his virtual
classroom, Molly came through the shop door and he quickly closed SL
and gave her his undivided attention. She seemed a bit distraught and
pre-occupied.
"James, I need your help with our desktop PC. I don't know what the
hell happened to it, but it takes years to start up!" James could tell
she was frustrated. "I'm sure it's not anything too bad! I'd be happy
to check it out" he said. Molly exhaled as she placed her hands on her
head and pulled back her hair. "Is something wrong?" James pondered.
"NO! Im just so sick of Harold! God I am sick of him!" James knew
Harold was her ex-husband as they had met several times before. "It's
HIS weekend to keep Abby but it's also the final weekend of the
Brownie's cookie competition! Her whole troop is going to storm the
neighborhood in attempts to win the competition. And right now, Abby
has the highest amount of cookies sold!! It's not fair! She has made an
excellent little salesman! She wanted to stay and finish it out."
James felt bad after hearing this. "Can't you go bring her back?!
Surely Harold will understand!" Molly shook her head "No, he lives out
on the west coast now. I put her on an airplane and he picks her up in
the terminal. There is no way he will pay to send her back early!" She
refocused her conversation back to the broken computer. "So could you
please stop by the house and take a look at the PC?" she asked. James
agreed that he was free on Saturday and would stop by. Molly was
thrilled! "I will be in and out all day on Saturday. I'll leave the
door open. You know where the family room is so just help yourself!"
Saturday had arrived and since Molly only lived a few blocks away,
James decided to walk there. As he passed through the area, he couldn't
help but notice the buzz of activity taking place in the neighborhood.
The Brownies were out in full force! All these little girls in their
full uniforms ringing bells, setting up tables on the sidewalk, holding
up cardboard signs and waving to cars...it was a 3 ring circus! This
contest was serious business and they had to be making a fortune!
James left himself in the house and headed back to the family room. As
he went down the hall, he saw Abby's room on the left. It was quite
obvious by the large bubble fonted "ABBY" sign that hung on her door.
James stopped for a brief moment and stood at the door. He slowly
cracked it open and took a peek inside. It was EXACTLY what he pictured
a little girl's room to look like. The walls were painted a light pink
and the carpet was a plush light mauve. A white framed canopy bed with
matching dresser sat against one wall and Harry Potter posters adorned
the other.
The room was immaculate. Abby's doll house was neat and tidy and a
little model Smartcar sat in the driveway next to it. James laughed at
how eco friendly doll houses have become because it even had solar
panels on the roof! He slowly opened the door a little further and
stepped inside. He meandered about being careful not to touch or
disturb anything. Sitting on the side of her bed, he marveled at the
plush pink comforter and frilly pillows. A soft warmness filled him
from deep within as he sighed loudly. "This is what it would have been
like to be a little girl!" he thought to himself.
As happy as he felt right now, there was also a great sadness. He
realized how lucky he was to have Second Life. At least he had SOME
means of experiencing childhood, all be it a virtual one. He approached
her closet and slowly opened the door. Everything was hung up neatly
and orderly. Hanging on the inside door was the outfit she had on the
last time she came into the store. It was the pink top with little
white hearts and black leggings. The pink zip-up hoodie hung 3rd behind
the other two pieces.
Below on the floor sat her little pair of black boots. He picked up one
of the boots and examined it closely noticing how small it was compared
to an adult's. He stuck his hand inside to find that even his hand
could barely fit down in the bottom. It had a soft fleece lining and
was quite stylish. Overall he thought this outfit was adorable and it
looked even cuter on Abby. He sat the boot back down exactly where he
got it from and closed the closet door.
Realizing that he was wasting time, not to mention exploring where he
didn't belong, he decided to get back to work. As he went to leave the
room, he felt even more depression fill his soul. And at that moment,
he recalled the Droid app he had purchased. He reached into his holster
and grabbed the phone and approached Abby's mirror. His heart rate
started to increase as he thought about the possibilities of becoming
his avatar. "If ONLY it were possible!" his mind swirled with
possibilities. He knew nothing was going to happen, but on the off
chance it might, his mind was preparing for an experience of a
lifetime!
He glanced down at his phone and opened the app. The disclaimer
appeared on the screen and he hit AGREE. The next screen asked him to
log in to his SL account. He started to get a little shaky as he
entered his user ID and password. His avatar appeared on the screen. It
was laid out with size dimensions labeled all over the different parts
of the body. The image on the screen rotated around 360 degrees showing
it from all sides and angles. It did not have any clothing on but it
also did not show any anatomy. The buttons START and CANCEL appeared at
the bottom. James took a deep breath followed by about 5 more. He
closed his eyes for a moment and pressed START.
The screen advanced to PHASE ONE - BODY PREP. The words REMOVING HAIR
started to flash on the screen. James looked closely at himself in the
mirror and realized nothing was happening. REMOVING HAIR continued to
flash but nothing was happening as far as he could tell. His heart rate
began to slow down as he realized that this app had no special powers.
It was a gimmick and intended for fun. He somewhat laughed a little at
his stupidity.
Glancing back down at the phone in his left hand, he went to turn it
off when he saw the hair on his right hand slowly begin to recede into
his skin. This stopped him cold in his tracks as he began to start
sweating. With his mouth open widely, he looked at his face in the
mirror and watched as his 5 o'clock shadow began to lighten. Something
was actually happening! His arms, hands and face were suddenly void of
all hair. With sweat running down his face, he glanced at the phone and
saw HAIR RESTRUCTURE begin to flash. The dark brown hair on the top of
his head started to recede into his scalp. Within 30 seconds, he was
bald! Then suddenly small blond hairs started to protrude from his
scalp and quickly grew to the top of his ears.
Glaring at himself in complete shock, his hair continued to grow past
his ears while working its way to below his chin. He felt like he was
about to have a heart attack and he pushed CANCEL on the app's screen.
With heavy breathing and the feeling of hyperventilation setting in,
everything stopped. The blond hair receded back into his scalp and all
of his normal hairs returned on his body. He stood there catching his
breath with his eyes still enlarged from shock. The phone displayed the
normal icon screen it always had.
James felt a little wetness in his underwear. Turns out he had peed
himself a bit during that fiasco. Completely flustered and overwhelmed
with emotion, he shoved the phone back in its holster and promptly left
Abby's room. He sat down in front of the computer in the family room
and just closed his eyes and breathed. "THAT did not just happen!!!" he
said out loud while tightly clenching his fists. "There is NO WAY that
just happened!!!" He booted up the PC and waited for Windows to start.
It took its time booting up which seemed to take an eternity. During
this time, James played the scene over and over in his mind. The
desktop appeared and he stared blankly at it not being able to
concentrate on what he was supposed to be fixing.
The thought of becoming a little girl scared the living shit out of
him! But the passion and desire in his soul made it impossible to
ignore. He was emotionally torn..."do I stay and fix this PC or do I go a
little further with the app and see what happens!?" His mind all but
shut down for 10 minutes. He didn't move an inch and just stared into
the monitor. Then he slowly reached out and shut the PC off and stood
up. Taking slow and even steps, he eventually arrived back at Abby's
room where he once again approached the mirror and pulled out his
phone. ___________________________________
HAIR RESTRUCTURE began to flash and once again, blond hair had it made
it down to his chin. In spite of his urges to abort the process again,
he left it continue as his blond hair crept towards his shoulders. It
then moved down his back to the middle of his shoulder blades where it
slowed to a stop. Small bangs began to protrude from his forehead and
drop down to around his brows. His wide eyes looked on in amazement.
PHASE TWO - SKIN APPLICATION began to flash on the screen. His skin
started to lighten in color as it went from a medium white to a pale
white. It began to tighten all over his body. He watched how wrinkles
around his eyes were pulled into oblivion and any place he had loose
sagging skin was also pulled tighter. His skin now appeared soft and
delicate and much brighter. It looked far more acceptable against the
blond hair than it did just 5 minutes ago. James could do nothing but
stare at himself changing more and more with each passing minute.
Little dark freckles began to pepper his nose and spread across his
cheeks. He was taking on Abby's attributes and he was fully aware that
he created his avatar to be a spitting image of her. His heart pounded
wildly inside his chest as he waited for the next phase.
PHASE THREE - FACIAL RESTRUCTURE He moved ever closer to the mirror to
get close to his face. His brown eyes started to fade in color until
they appeared a solid white albino with small black pupils. Suddenly
his vision began to blur. He began to panic thinking that he was losing
his eye sight. When he backed away from the mirror, he could see a
little sharper but things still had a fuzzy haze around them. He was
able to see a ring of light blue color begin to emerge from his eyes.
When he got close to the mirror, he once again went completely out of
focus. Backing up once more, he watched the blue pigment begin to
darken in his eyes until it was striking and bold. His vision was
screwed up. Something went wrong and he was concerned.
Paying such close attention to his eyes, he completely missed the other
changes happening to his face. His nose became much smaller and narrow
and his face was rounder. The structure of his mouth and chin was far
more compact than it was minutes ago. His eyelids became less droopy
and appeared more oval. Overall his entire face had become
unrecognizable. As he watched in blurry shock, he figured the next
phase would be the one he was dreading. He looked really strange as
this hybrid 6 foot man-child he now was. The phone flashed to the next
phase....
PHASE FOUR - BODY SHAPING He could still see well enough to read the
screen by squinting. "Current Height 6 feet 1 inches" flashed on the
screen. REDUCING MUSCLE MASS began to flash. James watched as the
muscle definition in his arms faded away to nothing. Then it felt like
his skin was tightening again as it did earlier. It drew tighter to the
bone as body fat seemed to be absorbed into thin air. His neck and
chest muscles started to pull inward while his fingers and hands got
very tight. He was starting to look like a stick figure.
REDUCING SIZE began to flash on the screen. A counter appeared on the
chart of his avatar's body and slowly began to count down. As it went
from 6 foot 1 inches down to 5' 10", he could feel himself getting
smaller. This was the absolute worst fear he had felt so far. The
counter beeped and registered 5' 8". The clothing he was wearing was
starting to get very loose around the waste and collar. Even though
most of his body appeared physically different, he still had his adult
height. Losing his height was the complete realization that he was
becoming a kid. Tears began to well up in his eyes as regret for going
this far was the most powerful emotion he felt. 5' 6" beeped on the
screen and in another moment of panic, he considered hitting the
CANCEL button. Yet he was frozen in fear and could not.
He watched as his arms became less stick like as they shrunk in size.
When he looked down, he could tell he was getting much closer to the
floor. BEEP - 5' showed on the display. He was now the size of some of
the smallest adult females. His hands, wrists and arms continued to
reduce in size. The only thing that continued to get bigger was the
beats per minute his pulse was racing!
BEEP - 4' 6"! He was now certainly kid sized and felt that he had
crossed the line between child and adult. He felt vulnerable, weak and
scared. The clothes on his body was beginning to hang on his frame like
oversized trash bags. He looked up and saw the top of the mirror
looking much further away than it was a few minutes ago. BEEP - 4'! "OH
MY GOD! I AM FOUR FUCKING FEET TALL!!!!!" he yelled out loud in a
little girl's voice. Completely caught off guard by the sound of his
voice, he placed both hands over his mouth and his eyes were as big as
saucers.
BEEP - 3' 11" the display read! "I ENTERED THE 3 FOOT RANGE???!! HOW
SMALL AM I GOING TO BE!?!?" he shouted again in a little girl's voice.
He felt completely helpless as the reduction in height had affected him
psychologically far more than he ever imagined it could have. BEEP - 3'
9"! James stood there and cried...he truly started to feel like a little
kid. He held his little hands in front of his face and wiped away the
tears. He thought his sight was blurry before but now through tear
soaked eyes, it was much worse. TRANSFORMATION COMPLETE displayed on
the phone. RESTORE or EXIT were the two options that had appeared.
He stood there looking at the hazy outline of a little girl. He was
both speechless and breathless. With his mouth slightly open, he
touched his face to feel if it was actually his own. It was very smooth
and soft yet wet from all the streaming tears. He slowly began to shake
off the clothing he had on and for the first time he witnessed what had
happened below the waist. It was true....his male parts were gone. In
its place were the parts you expect to see on any genetic female. His
legs and feet matched the rest of his body in both size, color and
shape. Small freckles covered his knees and elbows. His skin was
several shades lighter than it once was.
He felt vulnerable and exposed. Almost as if he shouldn't be looking at
something like this. He quickly opened Abby's closet door and saw a
little pair of pink undies and socks laying next to her shoes. He
pulled the panties on and returned to the mirror. "What have I done!?"
he thought to himself. "This simply is not possible!" Then suddenly
something dawned on him. He realized that he was actually now a female!
Something he has always wanted but never thought he would experience.
Sure he was a kid, but he was girl kid! Just like his avatar...and
better yet, he resembled Abby.
Though once again, fear of being a child set in and he wanted to hit
the RETURN button on his phone hoping he would revert back to James and
maybe get his clear eye sight back! He held the phone in his little
hand with his finger hovering over the button. Another thought then
entered his head..."Oh my God! What if Molly comes home!? I never even
thought about that!!" But he just couldn't press the RETURN button.
Something in him needed to do more exploration as a child. How much did
he actually resemble Abby? There was one sure way to find out. He went
to gather the pieces of the exact outfit he had last seen her in. He
needed to know if he would appear more like Abby once dressed in her
actual clothes and even more so, if they actually fit....he was both
scared and excited to find out.
Quickly he pulled the pink top with the little white hearts over his
head and threaded his arms through the sleeves. His small little hands
emerged through the elastic pink cuffs as he popped his head through
the opening at the top. Now grabbing the bottom of the bundled up
shirt, he pulled it downward over his belly and it came to rest almost
covering his undies. It fit perfectly in every way it possibly could.
It hung loose on his body and hung down to the perfect length.
He grabbed his blond hair and yanked it up and outside the collar. It
cascaded down to his shoulder blades where it settled hanging perfectly
straight. He gazed into the mirror and couldn't believe how just
wearing this top made him look more like Abby. On her dresser laid a
pink scrunchie. He recalled that she had her hair back in a pony tail
that morning. He wanted to recreate the look as complete as possible so
he pulled his hair together and looped the elastic three times. Now his
hair no longer touched his face or ears, except for the little bangs
that draped his forehead.
Next he grabbed the little black leggings and stretched them up and
over his knees, past his little butt and up to his waste. He pulled on
the soft little pink socks that just overlapped the cuffs on the
leggings.
The pink and black zip up hoodie was the next piece he layered onto
himself. He pulled his pony tail out from behind the hood to let it
flow down over his back. The hoodie was a bit bigger than the shirt and
bunched up a little around his wrists. The bottom of it covered his
little butt completely. He began to zip it at the bottom and brought
the zipper up about one quarter of the way.
With each piece of clothing he added , he turned into Abby a little
more. It was happening. And though things were still a little blurry,
he was certainly recognizing the little girl that was in his shop just
a week ago. The only thing left were the little black boots that he
simply adored. Leaving them for last on purpose, he sat on the edge of
the bed and held the boots in his hands. Sticking his hand down inside
the soft fleece lining, he realized how his whole hand could make a
fist in the bottom where before he couldn't barely get his hand in
there.
He was now the right size for this outfit and he was starting to feel
very happy about it. Taking the left boot, he slipped it over his left
foot and pulled it upward. His little foot sank deep into the fleece
lining inside. The softness of the lining against his foot was
wonderful! He couldn't understand why they never made boys stuff like
this! He repeated the process with his right foot and it felt just as
good. Slowly he stood up and put his feet down on the floor and took a
few steps. The boots felt awesome, like he was walking barefoot on
carpet! The entire outfit was warm and soft and suddenly he felt safe
and secure and less vulnerable than he was just moments ago. He had
done it! Everything on his body was Abby's. Every piece fit exactly as
it should.
There he stood completely dressed in Abby's clothes from head to toe.
He never imagined that he...39 year old James would be standing before
a mirror dressed in an 8 year old girl's outfit. He really didn't know
what a kid smelled like, but Abby's clothes had a fresh crisp sweet
scent that engulfed his senses. He felt extremely close to her.
There were several pictures of Abby sitting on her little dresser.
James went over to compare his new look to the real Abby when suddenly
he noticed something he had forgotten. "Abby wears glasses!" he
shrieked out loud. "Of course! I knew that!!" and he began to hunt
around hoping he would possibly find a spare pair somewhere in her
room. He knew he looked a lot like Abby now, yet something was missing.
Without glasses, he truly wouldn't be able to say he was "completely
her". And as the excitement was building, seeing how far he had come in
this transformation, at this point he wanted nothing more than to BE
this little gir.
Opening her third dresser drawer, he found a glasses case and gave it a
little shake. The sound of something rattled around inside and he knew
he found gold!! Quickly he opened the case and removed the little brown
framed pair of glasses. His heart raced and thumped harder than it had
at any point during his journey. "This is it!" he thought to himself.
It was the last piece he needed to become Abby. The forgotten piece!
The missing piece! He approached the mirror holding the glasses tightly
in his little hands. He closed his eyes as tight as he could and slowly
felt the cool plastic slide along his temples and up his nose until
they locked firmly in place behind his ears. Gradually his eyes
opened....
"NO WAY!!! NO FUCKING WAY!!" he said out loud as his image came into
PERFECT focus!! That sure didn't sound good coming from a little girl,
but he didn't care. He saw Abby's reflection in the mirror. For the
first time in his transformation, he could see himself in perfect sharp
detail. It was now obvious that he "needed" these glasses to see
correctly. He was 8 year old Abby Marie Reynolds!!
With her hands by her side and her legs together, she slowly took in
her entire appearance from head to toe. "I'm Abby!! I'm REALLY
Abby!!!!" she cried as tears flooded from her eyes and down her cheeks.
She could feel her little heart beating rapidly inside her chest. With
her new youthful energy, she jumped up and down causing her pony tail
to flop all about. Wrapping her arms around herself with her eyes
closed tightly, she gave herself a tight embrace all the while
squealing "I'M ABBY!!! OH MY GOD I'M ABBY!!!!!" She had never been more
excited about anything in her life than she was at this exact moment.
Mesmerized by the little girl in the mirror, she just stood there and
smiled. She rubbed her nose to make sure the little freckles wouldn't
rub off. Nope! They were a permanent part of her face! She looked deep
into her own soulful bright blue eyes. They reflected back pure
innocence, love and joy. She did not want this feeling to end. She
feared that any moment, she would wake up lying on her keyboard while
still logged into SL. But this was NO dream! Her name was Abby Reynolds
and she was an 8 year old 3rd grader at Heightswood Elementary!
____________________________________
Abby looked around her room with a brand new set of eyes. Everything
was now at her level. She checked out the awards she won in the 2nd
grade art fair and the pictures she colored for Molly for Mother's Day.
In one corner sat a bunch of furry stuffed friends. One bear in
particular looked as though it was loved quite frequently. Several
Barbies were stored in a plastic bin with dozens of outfits stored in
another. She didn't know what to do first!
Drawing her attention back to the dollhouse, she approached it and sat
down indian style on plush carpet tucking her little Uggs under her
legs. She opened the house and marveled at all the little mini gadgets
and furniture inside. She couldn't help but keep looking down at her
legs and being mesmerized by how small she had become. The reality of
her situation kept conflicting with her desire to just be Abby. Again
she began to feel panic as she thought about her adult life being
simply non existent now. "Can I easily become James again?" she
questioned to herself. "What if I'm stuck as Abby!?" As much as she was
enjoying being 8, she didn't think that it's truly what she wanted for
herself in the end. This all happened rather quickly.
With all the mixed emotions swirling in her head, she got up and
approached the mirror once again. Quietly and very straight faced, she
looked deep into her bright blue eyes without saying a word. She
removed her glasses and the image became fuzzy. She placed them back on
and everything came into focus. A serious look of contemplation came
across her face. One that you would only see on an adult's face. Then
one more time she backed up to examine all 3' 9" of herself dressed in
her little pink, black and white outfit. Her mind made a complete
turnabout....none of this felt right. She was James and she owned a
little IT company. Trying to act like an 8 year old seemed harder to do
in the real world then it was to play one in Second Life. She decided
right then and there to take off the outfit and ask the phone app to
bring her back to reality hoping to God that it would reverse.
As she sat down on the bed to pull off the first boot, the front door
opened and closed. "OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT IT'S MOLLY!!!!!" she
thought to herself. Quickly she pulled her boot back on and went to the
foot of the bed where she pushed James's clothing and phone under her
bed. "What am I going to do!? What do I tell her!? What have I gotten
myself into!?" Before she knew it, Molly was in the hallway and noticed
the bedroom door open.
"Hello!?" Molly hollered out while slowing and carefully approaching
the door. "Hi Mommy!" Abby said sheepishly while standing in the middle
of her room. "ABBY!!! WHAT THE....HOW THE.... WHERE DID....HOW DID YOU
GET HERE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" she yelled as she stared at her daughter in
disbelief. Abby's mind raced as she knew she had to come up with
something quick. She knew that their neighbor next door, Mr. Watkins,
was an airline pilot. It was worth a shot and the only thing she could
come up with on such quick notice. "I asked Daddy if I could come home
and instead of calling you to pick me up, he left Mr. Watkins bring me
home from the airport."
The look on Molly's face was pure confusion. Abby felt her heart race
as she worried about getting caught in this lie. "Why would daddy not
tell me he was sending you home!?! God he's a moron!" she exclaimed.
"Was Mr. Watkins the pilot on your plane??" she asked. "Uh huh! He said
he'd bring me home so that's what I did!" Abby fibbed. "You should have
called me!! You ARE NOT old enough to stay here by yourself!!" Molly
yelled. Abby started to cry a little and said "I'm sorry...I didn't
wanna be a problem!"
Molly came in and kneeled down and gave Abby a big hug. Abby noticed
how Molly felt so large...so overbearing...so.........."ADULT". It was
a stark reminder that she was no longer Molly's equal, but now her
child! This whole thing just got seriously complicated. With Molly in
the picture, the window of opportunity to become James again was
closing. How could she get away to change back? And if she did, Molly
would think that her daughter was missing! There was NO chance of
telling her the truth! And what happens when her REAL daughter arrives
at the airport tomorrow!? Abby knew that as upset as her mother was,
she wasn't going to let her out of her sight anymore!
For the first time in this transformation, Abby felt like a real 8 year
old. Suddenly her life acquired a new set of rules. She no longer had
the power or ability to make her own choices. She now had an authority
figure that would dictate what she could and could not do. Simply
walking out the door was no longer an option. Cursing would certainly
no longer be allowed. Free reign over a computer....gone. Watching
movies or listening to music with adult content was over. Having a set
bedtime and getting up for school every day would become a way of life.
No driver's license! No trips to the store by herself to purchase
whatever she wanted! No trips to the fridge to eat whatever she felt
like snacking on!
She was now a child, plain and simple. Under the law she was considered
a minor. She felt trapped. It would be 10 more years until she was
granted freedom again. It was almost like being put in prison. Yet deep
down inside her was an adult and she knew she had to find a way out
this fast! She just needed some time to figure it all out.
"Come to the kitchen to get some lunch" Molly instructed. Abby kept her
head down and headed toward the door. "You're not taking Hermione with
you?" Molly asked. "Oh crap!" Abby thought to herself for she didn't
have a clue who Hermione was. Her only hope was if her mom were to drop
another clue. Abby turned around in her room and just looked around
blindly. "Abby! Grab Hermione and come to lunch. Now let's go!!" Abby
approached her stuffed animal collection and grabbed the one bear that
appeared to be heavily loved. Molly said "I've got to wash her again
soon! She's getting really dirty again." Abby gave a silent sigh as
luck appeared to be on her side.

Clutching her stuffed bear at her side, Abby plopped down at the table.
Molly opened the bag of bread "Which do you want Sweetie? Bologna or
PB&J?" Abby figured this one was a no brainer. "Peanut butter please!"
she said with a little smile. "Really!?" Molly asked. "I would have bet
money that you would have picked your favorite." Abby realized how
difficult things were going be. She really didn't know a lot about the
little girl she was now representing. They both were in the middle of
lunch when Molly realized "Honey! I can't believe I didn't think about
this! We have got to get you out there selling cookies! Quickly go get
your uniform on!"
Abby didn't have time for this. She still had not come up with a way to
get out of this quagmire and selling cookies just wasn't high on her
priority list at the moment. "Mommy, I don't feel good." the little
tyke fibbed. "Look Sweetie. It's the last day for the cookie sale and
you have worked SO hard getting to where you are now. It would be a
shame to stop now so do you think you can make it a little while? Mommy
also worked really hard at getting you a lot more orders!" Abby just
experienced a powerful parental guilt trip. "But Mommy...," she cried.
Molly wasn't in the mood to play games. "Young lady! Go put your
uniform on!!!" Abby kept her head down and mumbled a "yes ma'am" as she
slowly walked to her room. She went to the closet and started searching
for something that looked like a uniform. There were several pieces
hanging on a couple of hangars that appeared to be uniform pieces.
A purple and gray little plaid skirt with a gray sweater vest was the
first thing she grabbed. Oddly enough, she didn't know what a Brownie
uniform looked like. Earlier that day, she had seen dozens of Brownies
out and about but really didn't take note to how they were dressed.
Seeing the imprinted "Heightswood Elementary" on the vest, she
concluded that was her school uniform. A long sigh came from deep
within her as she realized what her life would be like if she didn't
fix this soon!
Digging deeper she came across a blue button up shirt with a sash on
it. That HAD to be her Brownie uniform. Yet it wasn't brown as she
thought it would be. Obviously this was just the upper pieces. Where
was the rest of it? Stuck to the mirror on her dresser was a photo of
her Scout troop. All the little girls in the picture were wearing
powder blue tops, white ties, brown sashes, something that looked like
a brown skirt and brown tights. Little brown beanies adorned the tops
of their heads. Abby started frantically searching for all the pieces
she needed to look like a Brownie.
Stripping down to her panties, she folded up her clothes carefully and
placed them on the floor. She popped on the blue button up short sleeve
shirt and clipped the little snap-on tie in place. A brown looking
skirt was hanging by itself a few hangars down and she grabbed it. The
Girl Scout logo appeared on the inside tag and she knew she had the
right piece. It was a little brown skort. "Interesting!" she thought.
"It's like a pair of shorts on the inside but it looks like a skirt on
the outside!" She pulled them and tucked her blue shirt inside.
Referencing the photo again, she began to search for the brown tights
and hat. Rummaging through the drawers of her dresser, she found her
beanie with a pair of rolled up tights stuffed in them. It then dawned
on her that she couldn't wear the tights with the skort already in
place so she was forced to remove it. Sitting on the edge of the bed,
she pulled the little tights up over her butt and once again stepped
into the skort, re-tucked her shirt, and got it in place.
"What are you doing Abby!?" Molly hollered down the hall. "I'm soon
ready!" Abby answered in a frustrated tone. She pulled the sash over
her right shoulder and pulled the beanie over her head until it
flattened her bangs against her forehead. The beanie just didn't fit
right with her pony tail back there so she pulled the scrunchie out and
allowed her hair to flow freely across her back and down the sides of
her face. Putting the hat back on, it fit much better but still
squashed her bangs.
Abby felt she was ready to check herself out in the mirror. She had
completely forgotten foot wear! She wondered what went with the
uniform. Surely her black boots wouldn't be appropriate. Returning to
the photo on her dresser, she noticed most everyone wore different
shoes. She tuned into the image of herself and saw what appeared to be
little brown loafers. Going to the closet, she saw them and quickly
slipped them onto her feet.
Now it was time to see the finished product. She approached the mirror
as she had several times before. As she had feared, the image before
her confirmed what she didn't want to accept. She had moved another
step deeper into Abby's life. Moving ever further away from James. Yet
there was no question that this one of the most adorable things she had
seen so far.
________________________________________
Molly and Abby walked a block to where a group of 7 girls were standing
around a table selling cookies. Christine the troop leader was a friend
of Molly's. As they approached, Christine smiled and waved a chipper
hello. "How are you Abby?" Christine asked. "I'm OK" are the only words
little Abby spoke. The other girls were happy to see her too.
Awkwardly, Abby stood amongst them not really knowing who they were.
She was hoping all that time playing as a kid in Second Life was going
to pay off. This was her first interaction with other children and the
public in general.
"We're about ready to ship the kids uptown to hit up the ritzy
neighborhood!" Christine told Molly. "You can pick Abby back up here
around 6pm," Molly gave Christine a hug and then hugged Abby. "See ya
later Sweetie! Make a killing!" she said as she turned and headed back
to the house. "OK girls! Let's get cleaned up here and everyone hop in
the van!!"
There were 3 rows of seats in the back of the large white van. Abby
climbed into row two and was surround by other little girls from every
angle. Christine sat up front and said "OK girls! Let's all recite the
Girl Scout Promise!" Abby instinctively held up her 3 fingers along
with the other girls and said...
On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at
all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
"Now ladies, let's recite the law!"
I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what
I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use
resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to
every Girl Scout.
Abby was astonished at how well that rolled off of her tongue. Almost
as though she had said it hundreds of times before. This was the first
she had ever heard it! She sat quietly by herself and observed all the
other little girls who chatted obsessively amongst themselves. Here
were 7 other girls all approximately her age and right around the same
height. Each one dressed in the exact same uniform she was wearing.
Glancing down at the brown sash across her shirt, she noticed all the
colorful badges she acquired. She knew how the badge system worked from
being a Cub Scout, but she was rather clueless to what they meant.
Looking around at the other girls, she had several more than any of
them.
So here she sat, 1 of 8 little girls, dressed in their little brown
uniforms. She felt misplaced and to some extent, an outsider. Yet with
her own mouth, she JUST spoke the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout
Law out loud in front of 8 other people. From her own viewpoint, she
had just recited an oath. An oath that pledged her beliefs and morals.
An oath that tied her very essence tighter to the essence the original
Abby created. She was now a Brownie....Until this moment, she felt like
an imposter wearing the uniform. But now her conscience allowed her to
accept that she legally had become a real Brownie.
Suddenly a little spurt of happiness began to emanate from within. All
the years of Boy Scouts she had to endure wishing the whole time she
could have been a Girl Scout. That wish was now reality. As she looked
down at her sash again, she began to recognize some of the emblems and
pins. She was a member of Brownie Troop 282. She had received the
Discovery Key award, the Connect Key Award, the Take Action Key award
and was presented the "Brownie Quest" Completion Award. Cookie
Business, Faith, Safety and Financial Literacy badges continued across
her chest. Abby wasn't just a Brownie, she was an AWESOME Brownie! She
was ready and prepared for the next step in becoming a full fledged
Girl Scout.
As the van continued to roll along, the girls started a sign-a-long.
Abby began to sing too as joy gave a her a break from the misery she
was feeling earlier. She was anticipating the challenge of selling
cookies. Arriving at their destination, Christine organized the kids on
the sidewalk and paired them into 4 groups. Each were given a house to
approach and attempt to make a sale. When they all returned, they would
go to the next 4 houses and so on until the neighborhood was covered.
Over the next hour and a half, Abby and her partner Lisa sold to 34 out
of the 36 houses they approached. The average for the other groups was
about 8 out of 36. Abby had the gift of charm and instinctively knew
how to make a sale. As the clear winner in the day's sales drive,
Christine told her that ALL the numbers from ALL the troops in the area
would be counted up tonight to see who the overall winner would be.
"I've got a good feeling about you little one!!"
Back into the van the girls went but with much less energy than they
started with. It was much quieter and Abby had the opportunity to sit
and think. She thought about being with the other girls today and how
it felt almost normal. She didn't spend the day trying to act like a
kid which she had to do in Second Life. Rather it just kind of happened
naturally. The longer the clock ticked, the more she found herself
starting to act and think like Abby. She began to remember things she
couldn't explain.
The strangest was that she recalled that day James gave her the grape
lollipop when they came to pick up the laptop. She distinctively
recalled that moments from Abby's perspective. Yet she could also
recall the viewpoint from James! Talk about a paradox! This started to
confuse her and she felt her mood once again begin to deteriorate as
she was aware of what was happening to her.
As the van rolled back into downtown, it drove by James's shop. Abby
stared out the window and watched it go by slowly. Her mind began to
wonder if she would ever work there again. It looked dark and empty.
She left a PC running that would shut itself off after 10 minutes.
Thinking she had resolved the issue, she left it run all day hoping it
would continue to do so. She wanted to know if she was right. But that
wasn't possible now....it wasn't her store any longer. She was just a
kid.
___________________________________
Molly had dinner with her daughter and asked how everything went. Abby
told her the number of sales she made and Molly clapped with delight.
Showering Abby with praise, she couldn't understand why her little one
wasn't as overjoyed as she was. "Sorry Mommy, I jus been thinkin' bout
lots of stuff lately!" Molly inquired as to what was on her mind. "I
dunno! I feel happy one minute and kinda sad the next! It's happened
all day!" Abby knew all too well the internal struggle she was messing
with but she wasn't going to admit any of it to her mom. Molly got up
and gave her a hug and Abby squeezed back tightly.
"OH, do you know if James was here today to fix the PC?" Molly asked.
Abby's face went stone cold. "Let's go look" she replied. They both
headed into the family room and Molly flipped the machine on. Within 10
minutes, the desktop was there with the same error on the screen.
"Damnit!" she hollered as she threw the mouse to one side. Abby went up
and grabbed the mouse and began to navigate her way through several
menus. Molly raised a brow as she watched her little girl click through
the options without even stopping to read them.
"Honey! What are you doing!?" Abby didn't say a word. She just
continued to open windows and edit text. "Try it now Mommy!" she said
with a grin on her face. Molly restarted the PC and it booted up in 2
minutes error free! "HOW DID YOU....WHAT DID YOU....ABBIGAIL MARIE
REYNOLDS, WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO DO THAT!!!!???" Abby started to
giggle. "James is a good teacher!" she laughed! "I just don't know
about you here lately! You've been a strange little girl today!" Abby
though to herself, "if only you knew Molly! If only you knew!!"
The telephone rang and Molly answered it. The sound of joy was heard 5
blocks in all directions when she screamed "YOU DID IT ABBY! YOU SOLD
THE MOST COOKIES! WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD HONEY!!!!!!!!!!" James
had been to Disney World more times than he could count. He liked the
place but he was tired of it after all these years. Therefore, Abby was
having a hard time getting excited about going back. But in support of
Molly, she turned on as much emotion as she could.
Molly had taken the coming week off work to catch up on some house
chores. She asked if there was any way possible they could book the
trip immediately because it would be almost a year until she could get
another straight week off work. After a few phone calls, she couldn't
wait to tell Abby that they were leaving on Monday!
Abby knew this was NOT good news. Today was Saturday which leaves her
only one day to fix the issue. But the day had taken its toll on her
and she was getting very sleepy. While Molly continued to make phone
calls to let family and friends know about the trip, Abby started to
nod off while still in her uniform. Molly noticed and went over and
removed her beanie, lifted her bangs and lightly kissed her forehead.
She then whispered "go get undressed and hop in the shower sweetie."
The warm water felt wonderful! Abby stood in the shower not really
thinking about anything other than going to bed. Her Disney Princess
nightgown was laid out on the bed waiting for her. Slipping it over her
head and allowing it to drop past her knees, she went out to tell her
mommy goodnight. Molly walked her back into the bedroom and pulled the
pink and purple ruffled comforter down a bit and helped Abby slide in.
Tucking the cover around her little neck, she again kissed her little
girl goodnight and turned out the light. Abby wasn't able to muster up
the strength to even crack open an eyelid. Within 30 seconds, she fell
sound asleep. _________________________________
James was startled awake in the middle of the night. He was soak and
wet from sweat. His breathing was shallow and his mouth was dry. A
dimmly lit light was all he noticed while he stared at the ceiling for
minutes. His mind was swirling and moving at the speed of light as he
began to recall the strangest dream he ever had. He knew he had spent
too much time in Second Life because he recalled that he actually
turned into a little girl from an app he bought for his phone. The
longer he laid there the more the events began to play back in his
head. It seemed so real...almost TOO real!
"I only had one day to get myself out of it" he thought to himself as
he felt relief cross his mind. A smile came across his face as he
remembered what it was like to be an 8 year old girl. It was something
he thought he would never get to experience. He began to rub his eyes
when he glanced over at the clock. He couldn't quite make it out. He
rubbed his eyes once more but the time was still quite fuzzy. He
reached over to grab the clock when he felt a pair of glasses laying
directly next to it. His heart all but stopped! Grabbing the glasses he
quickly placed them on his face and watched the time come into perfect
focus! Sitting up quickly, he pulled down the comforter to find himself
wearing a little pink princess night gown. "It wasn't a dream!" he said
in a sad soft spoken girl's voice. "I really am Abby!"
Yes, she was certainly still a little girl. "NO!" she exclaimed!! "This
ends now!" Quickly she turned on the light and started pulling James's
clothing out from under the bed shaking them all until the phone fell
out. The screen was locked and was asking for the proper unlock code.
Abby stared intently at the screen.....she didn't know it! Thinking as
hard as she could, her mind was empty. Randomly pushing buttons in a
rage of panic, time and time again "Invalid Code" appeared on the
screen. After several more attempts the phone locked the user out and
powered itself off. Abby sat on the edge of the bed with the dead phone
in her hands and cried. She continue
