Timmy hurried home after being dropped by the school bus. His
grandmother was coming by this afternoon to drop off a few things and he
needed to get his homework done as fast as he could.
"Is that you Timmy?" his mother called out from the other room when he

There was one other dress in the closet. It was black, with a sequined
bodice and a pleated shirt. It was his mother's dress, and he had been
required to wear it till the other dresses were acquired.
Timmy quickly took his clothes off and took the pink dress form the
hanger. He stepped into it and pulled it up over his shoulders and then
struggled to reach the zipper in back, but managed to get it zipped.
Timmy then took off his socks and slipped on a pair of white lace ankle
socks, before sliding his feet into a pair of pink pumps with 2" heels
and bows on the toes.
Timmy the went to the mirror and brushed his hair back and bobbi pinned
the sides with several pins. He then placed a large bow on the back of
his head that had a hair clip to secure it.
Timmy then hurried down the stairs and to the kitchen where his mom was.
"You ready to do your homework Melissa?" she asked pleasantly.
"Yes," he said about to get his books.
"Hold on there young lady. Let me take a look at you first."
His mother checked out his appearance as she did everyday after school.
She adjusted the bow in his hair as she did almost everyday. He never
put it high enough for her taste.
"Ok honey, you're a very pretty little girl. As soon as you're done and
I've checked to make sure it is all correct you may be a boy again," she
said sending him on his way.
Timmy sat down at the dining room table and immediately went to work.
Timmy was being punished. He had been dressing like this for two weeks
now. His grades and lack of attention to his homework had resulted in
his mother coming up with the idea that required him to dress like a
girl till his homework was done. No exceptions were tolerated.
He would be allowed to go back to normal if he finished the semester
with a strong showing.
The pressure of his grandmother coming over made it difficult to do his
homework. When he finished his homework he walked to the living room to
present it to his mother for review.
"What pretty dress you have on little girl. Are you done with your
homework?"
"Yes," he said handing her the tablet with answers and the work sheet.
His mother looked it over then handed it back to him.
"There are some mistakes. You need to go back and find them and then
make the corrections," she said handing him the papers back.
She never would tell him which answers were wrong or how many. She just
handed it back and he had to find it himself.
Timmy worked and found some mistakes. He presented it again and this
time the answers were correct.
"That's great Melissa," she said looking things over. "You may go
upstairs and change now. You can be a boy again."
That evening at dinner after grandma had left, his mother was in his
room tiding up things for him. She hung his dress back up and as she did
she informed him that his teacher had called.
"Ms. Beckett called to let me know you have a quiz on Friday in her
class," she said as she worked. "She said you are doing much better the
last couple of weeks," his mother said, then squeezed his cheeks and
kissed him on the forehead.
Ms. Beckett was unaware that Timmy was being petticoated at home to keep
him focused on his grades.
"She will call me to let me know what grade you get. She wants you to do
well."
"Mom, can I go over Jimmy's house this weekend?" he asked.
"Sure honey, but I must tell you if that grade on that quiz is not
adequate you will be Melissa all weekend."
"Mom!"
"I don't want to hear it Timmy. Just get the grades."
Friday Timmy felt the weight of the world as he took the quiz. The
thought that his mom would require him to be Melissa all weekend if the
grades weren't good enough was most prominent in his mind. That only
added to his nervousness.
That afternoon Timmy's mother got the call from Ms. Beckett. She
informed Timmy's mother on how well he had done on the quiz and his
improvement had been remarkable.
"Would you like some cookies?" Timmy's grandmother asked.
"No, thank you," he said somberly.
He had wanted to go to his friends house this weekend, but he and his
mother ended up at his grandmother's instead.
"You know honey, your mother is just trying to do what is best for you.
Everything is going to be alright dear," she said patting his hand.
Timmy didn't say anything.
"You did so much better on your quiz than before," his mother said. "And
I think you can do even better next time, don't you, Melissa?"
"Yes, I will try."
Timmy's mother was finishing the putting curlers in his hair before
bedtime. He sat in a chair in the kitchen while his grandmother watched.
Timmy was wearing a pink nightie and a satin robe to cover it while his
hair was being set in his grandmothers old brush curlers. His mother had
all seen it fit to paint his fingernails and toenails red.
"Ok Melissa. You're done," his mother said removing the towel from
around his neck. "Time to go to bed," she said now leading him to the
bedroom.
He was tucked in and repositioned his head several times trying to find
the best comfort he could.
"Mom, the teacher said I did good. Why do I have to dress like a girl
this weekend?"
"You did very good Melissa. It was just better though. I think you
should have scored higher," she said kissing him goodnight.
Timmy became a little teary.
"Goodnight Melissa. Dresses, high heels, and pretty bows for you
tomorrow."
Timmy felt the curlers in his hair with his fingers after his mom left.
"I guess I have to try harder," he thought to himself.
