As soon as Peter woke up he knew something was different. The bed wasn't
his bed and the window in the room was in the wrong place. He blinked a
few times and turned his head to one side. It definitely wasn't his room.
It was very simply furnished, clinically white, but not quite like a
hospital. His memory of last night was blank; he couldn't remember where
he'd been or what he'd been doing. He turned his head to the other side
and saw a metal stand with a clear plastic bag and a tube, running to his
arm. Was he in hospital? Was he injured in some way. He was laying on his
back, his head and shoulders were elevated a little. There was a sofa, a
coffee table, an armchair and there were two doors; one, he presumed, to
a corridor. The other might be to a bathroom.
Peter wriggled his fingers, then his toes. He was okay as far as he could
tell, but he felt weak. The door opened and a male nurse in dark blue
hospital scrubs appeared.
"Good morning. Nice to see we're fully awake now. How are you feeling
today?"
Peter didn't know how he was feeling, other than confused.
"Er, what am I doing here? I don't remember anything. What happened to
me?"
"Now the first thing is not to worry. You're perfectly fine. You just
need a little rest and recuperation. The doctor will be along soon and go
through everything with you."
"But where am I, what hospital is this, how long have I been here?" He
felt close to crying. "I can't remember what happened last night. Was I
in an accident or something?"
The nurse was half sitting on the edge of the bed and put a hand on
Peter's leg. His hand felt warm and comforting, even through the sheet.
"You've been through a bit of an ordeal lately, but the doctor will
explain it all, just try to relax. So, would you like a nice cup of tea
now you're awake?"
Peter was looking at the nurse's hand when he noticed his own arms looked
unusual. They were completely smooth. He had never had particularly hairy
arms, but there wasn't a single one to be seen.
"Tea? Er, yes, I guess so."
When the nurse left the room, Peter looked down at his body. He was in a
white cotton gown, the hospital type that fastens behind you with ties.
He pushed the sheet down until he could see his legs. The gown only
covered the top half of his thighs. What was exposed was completely
smooth, no hair at all. He also thought that they looked thinner than
they should, but maybe that was just because they were hairless - or he
had actually lost weight.
Taking the hem of the gown in his fingertips, Peter drew it upwards,
inching it up, not sure what it might reveal. Having smooth slender
thighs was one thing, but he was completely hairless around his genitals
too. His fingers rested on his groin, there wasn't even a trace of
stubble. He had heard of people losing all their hair when they had
cancer or some rare disease and wondered if that was what had happened to
him. It would explain the thinness of his legs and maybe his loss of
memory, but the nurse had said he was okay.
Peter moved both hands to his head. He had hair. It was quite long,
nearly down to his neck. He didn't have his hair cut particularly short,
but it hadn't been this long since he'd left college. His hands dropped
from feeling his hair and trailed down over his face, which was also
smooth as silk. They came to rest on his chest.
He looked down at his hands, not believing what he could feel. In
contrast to his slimmer thighs, there was a definite surplus of fat on
his chest, almost like he had breasts. He'd always been quite lean,
almost slender; it made no sense to him. When the door opened again Peter
was still looking puzzled, still covering his breasts with his hands.
"Ah, nice to see you awake Philippa."
The man who had entered the room was wearing a smart pinstripe suit and
had little half glasses perched on the end of his nose. He took a chart
from the foot of the bed and flicked through a few pages. Peter dropped
his hands onto the bed hoping that the doctor, or whoever it was, had not
noticed what he had been doing. What the doctor had said registered
slowly with Peter's befuddled brain.
"You called me Philippa?"
Although it sounded familiar, Peter couldn't think why the doctor would
use that name.
"Ah yes, it might take a day or so for you to fully adjust now your back
with us properly."
"What do you mean 'back with us', have I been away?"
The doctor moved to the side of the bed and leant down, looking into each
of Peter's eyes with a little torch.
"Mmm, you appear to be absolutely fine. Of course we'll keep an eye on
you over the next day or two, just while you find your feet again, but I
think you should be able to go home by the end of the week."
"But why am I here, and..." Peter looked down to his chest where he could
now see the two subtle bumps under the hospital gown. "What's happened to
me?"
The doctor looked at him thoughtfully, but took a few minutes before he
said anything.
"Philippa, trust me, it will all be clear soon. Your waking memory will
just take a little while to catch up. Your wife will be here any minute;
maybe it's best if I leave it to her to go through the details with you."
Almost before he finished the sentence the door opened again and Karen,
Peter's wife, breezed into the room. She was dressed in a pencil skirt,
expensive silk blouse and a smart cotton jacket. Her high heels clicked
across the floor and she leant down to kiss Peter on the cheek.
"Hello my dear, how are you feeling?"
"I don't know." Peter felt tears forming in his eyes. "I don't know
what's happened to me."
The doctor whispered something to Karen and withdrew from the room, to be
replaced by a female nurse, but in a more traditional uniform, and with a
cup of tea. His wife and the nurse sat on each side of his bed and held
his hands. Karen wiped a tear from his cheek with a hanky.
"This has all done been for the best my dear. Do you remember how
depressed you were, all those sessions you had with the doctors and
psychiatrist. This was the solution. We all agreed."
"I still don't understand," Peter whispered.
"Well, you've been here for three months now, receiving very special
treatment, the best available. Dear Jeremy paid for everything, isn't he
a sweetie."
Peter did remember now that he'd been going through a bad time, missing
days at work when he simply couldn't get out of bed, chronic fatigue had
been suggested as a diagnosis. Karen was a director at the advertising
agency where he worked and, if it wasn't for her, he might well have been
let go.
"Did you say Jeremy paid for it?"
Karen's older brother was a corporate lawyer, who earned pots of money
and was usually pretty careful how he spent it.
"He's been so nice about all of this my dear, so helpful? When he heard
what the most suitable treatment was, he offered to arrange and pay for
it all."
"Did you say I've been here three months? I don't remember anything."
"Well, it's been a very intense course of treatment my dear and the
doctors have used hypnosis and a number of drugs that keep your stress to
a minimum; that and the hormones have made you a bit emotional at times."
Peter frowned, he could half remember a dream that he was being talked
to, told how wonderful his life would be as a woman. It was a crazy
dream, as all dreams are, disjointed, not making sense, but very real.
"Is it the drugs that have caused this?" Peter asked, looking down at his
chest.
"Silly girl, that's the best bit of the treatment." Karen laughed and
rubbed his arm. "It was what you asked for."
"I asked for?"
Now he thought about it, having got over the surprise, he did feel that
the smooth legs and budding breasts were somehow right for him. Life had
always been stressful, even back at school he had struggled to fit into
the role demanded of him.
"You were unhappy dear, you needed a change."
"But I still don't understand what's happened?"
"Oh Pippa, you're turning into a beautiful creature, nearly there
already, and things are going to get even better over the next few
months."
Peter was trying to come to terms with what Karen was saying, but deep in
his head he knew that Karen was right.
"What did you just call me, just now?"
"Philippa, that's your new name, or Pippa is what you said you'd prefer
to be called."
The name triggered something in his head. Vague memories of conversations
were coming back to him, or not so much conversations as an encouraging
voice in his head, telling him what to do, how he should feel.
"The doctor said that I could come home in a few days."
"Of course you can my dear. And the best thing is that Jeremy has said we
can all live at his house now; the three of us together. Won't that be
fun."
"But Jeremy won't want me like this, I look like... a woman."
"Jeremy's been in to see you a few times already. He thinks you look very
pretty and he's so looking forward to having you help out at home."
"He thinks I'm pretty?"
"He thinks you're adorable and you know the trouble he's had finding just
the right woman to take care of his home. It's going to be perfect.
Jeremy and I can both go to work and you can take care of the house. How
does that sound? No more stressful commuting and office politics for you
to worry about."
Peter thought it sounded okay. He hated commuting, never really liked all
that competition at work. He thought that taking care of a house might be
more his thing. So his name was Pippa, it was a nice name, it felt right.
Pippa could feel herself relaxing as she accepted the name and the
changes to her body.
"Now, listen carefully dear, I have to rush off right now, important
client and all that. I might not be back for a day or two so do exactly
what the nurse says and everything will be fine."
Karen kissed him on both cheeks before she left. Pippa was still confused
as to what had happened, but was not going to worry if everyone else
thought it was all okay. She would just do what was asked of her and try
to please Karen and Jeremy. The nurse brought him back from his thoughts.
"Well, time to get up miss lazybones, but we'll take it slowly at first.
Can I call you Pippa, it's much less of a mouthful than Ms Cartwright or
even Philippa."
The nurse got Pippa to sit up and swing her legs over the edge of the
bed. She was quite wobbly at first and slightly dizzy, but by taking it
slowly she managed to stand up. Her breasts were now quite noticeable
when she looked down.
"We'll just take a little walk around the room. You've been up and
walking around most days, but of course you won't remember that because
of the medication."
The nurse helped Pippa to do a circuit of the room and then suggested she
drink her tea before it got cold.
"We'll get you dressed Pippa, if you feel up to it that is?"
Pippa nodded and the nurse selected a few items from the wardrobe. She
laid them on the bed and Pippa stared at them, then turned back to the
nurse.
"Is that dress for me?" Pippa asked.
"Everything in the wardrobe is yours Pippa, you have some fabulous
outfits and I must confess I'm quite envious."
Pippa touched the dress with her fingertips. It was made of a soft,
brushed cotton, short sleeved, buttoned down the front and the lower part
of the dress was flared. The pattern consisted of little red polka dots
on a pale cream background
"It's very pretty?"
The nurse slipped a pair of satin panties over Pippa's feet and helped
her to stand. Pippa pulled the panties up and felt the smooth satin

now," Jenny said from behind her. "And you're going to have to have some

Pippa had pretty much put Peter in the past now, consigned him to
history. On the second morning of her new life Jenny had produced a

"Well look at you girl," Karen exclaimed.
Pippa did a twirl to give Karen the full effect.
"Jeremy's just sorting out some paperwork with the doctor, but he's said
you can come home today."
Pippa was overjoyed. Jenny had been a good friend for the last few days,
but life in the small private hospital was pretty uneventful. She turned
to Jenny and held her hands.
"I'm going to miss you so much. Thank you for everything, I couldn't have
done it without you."
"Well you won't be getting rid of me that quickly. I shall be popping in
every now and then to check on how you are. All part of the service."
Pippa hugged Jenny, delighted that she wouldn't be losing her new friend.
"Are we all ready to go?" Jeremy asked, having appeared in the doorway.
"What about my clothes, I haven't packed anything."
"Don't worry your little head over that. Jenny here will follow later
with everything. We just want to get you home right now."
Pippa walked over to where Jeremy was standing and kissed him on the
cheek, resting her hands on his shoulders. He was a few inches taller
than her even when she was in her heels.
"Thank you so much Jeremy. I understand that I owe you for all this."
Jeremy's hands had come to rest on Pippa's hips and he leant forward to
whisper in her ear.
"I'm sure we can find a way for you to show your appreciation in due
course."
He kissed the exposed skin between her shoulder and neck and Pippa
instinctively leant her body against his. She had never really thought
before just how attractive Jeremy was, and how unusual that he had never
found a suitable girlfriend.
