Malissa and Chief Jones sat at the counter next to the Diner office. Her
tears were flowing down her cheeks triggered by Oshiwa's whimpers of
pain as she began shifting. "Where is Tizzy? She should be here to help
like she helped with Colleen," she said to Tim Jones.
"They're on their way home," Donnie said as he hung up his phone. Even
before she could ask how soon the air shimmered and Trader rushed out
followed by Tizzy as the rest appeared.
"Oshi? I'm here baby," they heard as Trader rushed into the office.
"Thank the gods you're here," they heard Paula. "She's had the most
difficult time I've ever witnessed. None of her attempts at shifting has
been complete."
Everyone knew that Paula and her sisters Carline and Marline were in
their wolf forms. Now Trader gripped her hand, "Just try to relax
Sweetie, let yourself be free. We will love you no matter what shape you
choose."
"Go Tizzy they need your help," Malissa encouraged her. "Maybe one of
your Crystals can help."
"Momma I only have one Shifter Matrix left."
"Tizzy," Trader got her attention. "Take Marsh and go to the temple," he
was holding out his Drive Key. "In my vault is an unformatted Matrix.
Hurry please."

Iridani Temple of the Light:
Sister Casseile was shocked to see Tizzy and the Rixxian Transport
Commander as they appeared in a rush to the Seeker vaults.
Then Tizzy slid a Drive Key into Traders vault and it opened for her.
Quickly she reached in her hand wavering only a moment as she felt the
energy of the Matrix's there and then plucked a matrix off a shelf then
withdrew the Key sealing the vault and the two were gone again without
any explanation.

It seemed like only half a minute before Tizzy was back with a Matrix.
"Thank you, I hope this works," Trader kissed Tizzy's forehead.
From the doorway Malissa watched as Trader placed the Matrix on Oshiwa's
forehead. The result was almost instantaneous as her body jerked then
seemed to explode with fur, her arms and legs following her face as she
changed shape. Then she collapsed panting hard, her body now resembling
a Silver Wolf Furry.
"Oh my gods," Paula was gushing. "You are the prettiest little wolf I
ever saw."
"W, Wolf Momma, really?" panted Oshiwa.
"Yes Sweetheart," Paula felt to see if she still had a fever. Her hand
brushing back the fur to reveal a Wolf Clan tattoo. But this one wasn't
like Trader's. The ring around this one was jagged and looked almost
like a circular saw blade silhouette ringing the Wolf head.
"Tizzy, I've never seen the Tattoo do that before," stated Trader as he
wrapped Oshiwa's fingers around the Matrix now.
Tizzy stepped into the room, her outstretched hand touching the tattoo.
Suddenly Oshi's body shifted as she grunted in momentary pain and became
a Panther.
"Let me see my niece," said Dale as he stepped past Carline in his
Grizzly Bear form. "They're right Oshiwa, you are very beautiful," he
caressed her cheek and it happened again as she became a bear.
"Great Spirit," gasped Paula. "She's a Multi-Shifter." Slowly she
shifted again. This time back into a grey and black coated wolf like
Paula. No one said anything about the fact that she hadn't shown any
signs of pain this last time or the fact that the shifts had all taken
less than a few minutes apart rather than days.
"Paula, what does this mean?" asked Trader deferring to her Shifter
knowledge.
"It means her bride price just went through the roof," giggled Marline.
"Momma's, Daddy's, Oshiwa has something she wants to show you." and then
she held her phone out to show Oshiwa sitting on the edge of the sofa in
Paula's office.
"Aunt Marline! My hair is a mess," she grumbled as she began running her
claws through it to straighten it out.
"You're beautiful Oshiwa," said Patricia. "You just wait till we all get
there next month. We are going to celebrate," she promised the teen.
"Momma, don't freak out if she answers the phone and you see another
creature staring at you," Paula said.
"Paula, what are you saying?" asked Jimmie Brightfeather as he shifted
to a Mountain Lion. The result was almost instantaneous as Oshiwa
followed suit.
"Momma, you mean it's really ok if we can imitate you and Daddy?" asked
Sequin.
As she turned she took in the sight, Sequin and Glitter stood there in
Wolf form, Sienna was a Red Fox. "You've been able to shift like this
the whole time?" Paula asked in amazement.
"We were kind of afraid that you would think we were just doing it to
make fun of you," they admitted.
As things began to settle down Malissa prepared to have a motherly
discussion with Tizzy.
"I know Momma, I should have called you. I'm sorry I had you all
worried," she said looking at the floor.
Malissa pulled her daughter into her arms. "Please remember next time,
ok?" she lifted her eyes to look into them.
"Yes Momma," answered Tizzy.
"I understand you found the Seeker," the other Seekers had filled her
in.
"Yes Momma, she was really scared of everyone at first. I, kinda know
how she felt. I mean about being all alone and all. I guess that's how I
found her," reasoned Tizzy.
"And you did really well. We are all proud of you."
"Momma, can I ask you about something?" she asked.
"What would you like to know about?"
Tizzy looked around now to be sure her Daddy wasn't there to hear her.
"Can you tell me about the Second Sisterhood?" she whispered.
She now looked at Zita wondering.
"No Momma, not her. I was talking about Kricket," she blushed.
"Let's go home young lady and you can tell me all about it, ok," Malissa
said.
"Hey, I want to know too," piped in Sophie.
As they got into the car Malissa asked, "Who is Cricket? I've never met
her before."
"Oh my god, you've been swapping spit with the lost Princess, Kricket
Coor?" Sophie was covering her mouth, but was it shock or amusement that
she was trying to hide.
"No Momma it wasn't anything like that," began Tizzy. "It was, was like
we really connected. I wanted to ummm, do things with her."

Before we could get home, we spotted her walking along the edge of the
road. Pulling over I stopped and asked, "Grandmother, what are you doing
out her?"
"I was coming to see my Granddaughter," she climbed into the Expedition
as Sophie slipped into the back.
"Me? But I'm just," Grandma Night Bird placed her fingers over her lips.
"So your Momma's have hidden the fact that you are a very gifted
Shifter, a Changeling to be exact," she was grinning. "Do you know how I
felt having to hear it from Beaver Lightfeather?"
"A changeling Grandmother?" asked Tizzy.
"Yes one who can fully change into an animal. Or was that some other
Panther Shifter she saw transform into a full panther as you ran across
the Freeway?"
"Oh, is that rare?"
"Yes, now may I meet Twist?" requested Grandmother.
"Twist?" Sophie and I echoed.
"He helps me to stay in contact with Kricket," as she petted him he
began showing himself.
"Will he be safe?" asked a voice from the back of the SUV.
"Oh my gods, how did you get here?" Tizzy was hugging the Rixxian who
was climbing out of the back.
I was looking in the rearview mirror and saw the bone tattoo on her
forehead. This was Kricket Coor, the lost Rixxian Princess, the one
Tizzy had helped to find. Still glancing in the rearview mirror I could
hardly believe that they were still kissing. How long could they both go
without having to breathe?
Pulling into the driveway Anna, Starlight and Rachel were waiting for us
with their youngest siblings. Of course Kricket had resumed her
invisibility, she really was shy. Of course I knew the Howlers, and
Sheba would know she was there. Probably even Tank, Flora, Tadpole and
Waddles the newest little Skunk of the family would know she was there
as well.
As we began to visit, Maleeza and Randi showed up. Then Maleeza called
Commander Marsh who talked with Kricket in private. I wasn't sure what
was said, but she was smiling as she hung up the phone.
"Tizzy," she looked over at her. "I am to stay here to learn about
Seeking. And I am also to help my cousins Zeeta and Pretty, but I never
met Pretty before."
"Oh, umm, Pretty Lightfeather drives a truck. She has a Demonian
Daughter that she and her husband Ringneck adopted," explained Tizzy.
"And she's Rixxian and married to a human? That has to be a huge scandal
for my Aunt Leeki."
"She's human but was informally adopted by your Aunt," I quickly
explained.

School was flowing along nicely now that things had settled back down
and I was getting ready for a meeting with the Second Sisterhood. We
would be hosting the first big event this year and I wanted everything
to go right.
While I was gathering everything I would need I picked up the renewable
note pad that Nona had found for me over the summer. She knew I
preferred my hand written notes to using my PDA. But she also knew my
aversion to wasting paper.
The 'Klean Pad' was actually a recent Tank invention. While you could
use any conventional means to write on it, once the last page was full
or you determined to archive your notes you could select to save or
discard them. The saved notes could be transferred into a computer while
still keeping the handwriting, mistakes and all. Or you could archive an
entire pad by selecting archive at the top.
I'd been happy to see that they'd replaced most of the note pads in the
school and eliminating a lot of wasted paper.
Stepping into the outer office I was surprised to see Miss Karen busy
talking with Nona.
"Karen," we hugged. "Are you here to help coordinate things for the
Sisterhood Meeting?"
"No actually I'm here to deliver a few new student records," she smiled
as Nona held them out to me.
The top one I'd already met, Zita Clee. Then I realized these were all
seekers who had been chosen, without disclosure by High Priestess Sharda
of the Sisters of Light.
I was about to hand them to Nona when I noticed the notation in the top
right-hand corners. Seven of the eleven had a TG designation.
"Oh I almost forgot," giggled Nona. "Sabina wants to meet with you over
lunch about something important."
"Would you give me a clue what it might be?" I asked.
"Her youngest sister Kashandra," grinned Nona.
"Kashandra? Her sisters name is Destinee," I thought I was correcting
her.
"That would be the Crowned Princess, Kashandra will be in second grade.
But you will get to meet her very soon," Nona informed me with a grin.
"Well put these on my desk and I'll look them over when I'm finished
with my meeting," I said as I headed towards the auditorium. I didn't
want to push Nona for more information, I knew that her ability to read
minds was something she tried not to do and she saw it as an invasion of
a person's privacy.
I knew that she and Miss Karen were distant cousins, but I never found
out how distant or on which side of her family. But I suspected it was
on her mother, Miss Clara's side since Karen obviously had the same
ability to anticipate a person's thoughts.
"Actually its Daddy's side," she chuckled as I faltered in my steps
beside her on our way to the auditorium.
It was still a week till our Halloween Dance and celebration, but the
Second Sisterhood always held their annual Initiations on the same
evening.
Just outside the auditorium we were met by Mistress Fillandra as she
stepped out of a study retreat. She'd come to get the details of the
evening and to accept our invitation for the Kitten Academy to join us.
"Mistress, how are things going? Are the new House Kittens getting
settled in?" I asked.
"Yes they're actually doing much better than the Free Range Kittens that
wander in on their own." her reference was to the young runaways and
homeless teens who sought out the Academy in hopes of becoming someone's
Kitten.
She told me that things were going well for the Junior Kittens also, and
filled me in on how the Chows were doing, I'd been anxious to hear about
Chantilly and Runt. And of course Lt Collins and Carlie.
We were met at the doors by Princess Petra who was there to insure it
was only Second Sisters at the meeting. They'd had a few in the past who
had tried to sneak in out of curiosity. Of course it wasn't only those
who were Transgendered, the meeting also included the Honorary Second
Sisters.
After opening the meeting I turned it over to Millie Regent who had been
elected as this year's president.
Now I sat on the front row with Fillandra and Anna as they covered all
the usual points.
"Are you excited Anna?" asked Fillandra laying her hand gently on the
little bump growing in Anna's tummy.
"Yes and I hope they let Starlight become a member," said Anna. "But
what about you and Devlin?"
"His mother is coming here today for a visit, and I'm a bit nervous
about things because no one will tell me what it is about. It seems all
of the Gambichow's have been sworn to secrecy," she informed us both. "I
just hope it isn't about our wedding plans. We both just want a quiet
ceremony, just friends and family."
"I'm sure that it isn't about that," I said. "I know she's excited for
both of you. She's looking forward to having a Grandchild."
"Miss Malissa, you know something," she surmised.
"I have a meeting with them for lunch," I said.
"Oh Sabina will be there with her?"
"Yes and Devlin's littlest sister," I answered.
"Do you think I could stay and see Breezer? I've not had the chance
yet," she was hopeful.
"Of course you may. And I'll be surprised if Devlin isn't here with
them," I grinned knowing that the two took every opportunity to be
together.
As the meeting ended we started toward the Dining Hall only to be met by
Sabina and Moll.
"Hey Sis," Sabina greeted her with a hug.
They kissed each other's cheeks then Fillandra asked, "Why is there so
much secrecy around this visit? Is there some danger that Devlin should
know about?"
"Oh," giggled Sabina. "Momma asked if we could meet at the Truck Stop
Diner. Devlin will be there as soon as he is out of Class for lunch."
Together we jumped to the Diner parking lot, and hadn't gotten inside
before they all arrived. Fillandra was busy kissing Devlin when someone
tapped his shoulder.
"Son?" he looked up in startled surprise.
Sabina gushed in delight, "Daddy! You're all better." she threw herself
into his arms.
"Dad? Is it really you?" asked Devlin.
"Yes it is. I'm sorry about having to be away for so long," he
apologized as I noticed the man had the tattoos of a Fire Clan Seeker.
At first I thought all of those around us were Guardians. But then I saw
that one of the two women hovering beside them also had Fire Clan
tattoos. She was holding the hand of a very young girl that I now
suspected was Kashandra.
Inside we were shown to the Private section reserved for Drivers and
special guests.
"Cardurann Fire, how happy we are to see you," stated Trader. He
obviously recognized the man.
"Trader, you old Wolf, how have you been?" he spotted Paula and Oshiwa
standing there. "This must be," he didn't get to finish.
"Cardurann, this is my wife Paula and our eldest Oshiwa. Petra and
Sheena were killed by Raiders on Fullers Crossing," he said dryly. "But
I have my new Family, and they help me to remember those I have lost."
"And one has been chosen to follow the life of a Seeker," he kissed
Oshiwa's hand.
"Destinee, I see Breezer has awakened." Said Sabina to break the awkward
tension though she already knew. Then she turned to the rest. "Zandra
welcome, Kristine." She began introducing her brother to the rest of
their extended family.
Sabina and Devlin had met Kristine before, knowing she'd serviced their
father's shuttle. Now Devlin was just discovering that she was also the
mother of three of their newest siblings.
Devlin clapped Cristian on the back. "Damn it's good to have a brother
finally," he grinned. "Oh Dad, this is Mistress Fillandra Heart, soon to
be my wife," he introduced her.
"If I'd known we were meeting family I would have brought Skitter to
meet her Grandpa," offered Fillandra.
It was touching seeing how quickly this group was forming into a
supporting family. And I was wondering what the real reason was behind
today's meeting.
"Malissa," began Kasha. "You know that Demonians don't practice Extended
families, but we wish to begin it. But could you tell us how it works?"
Suddenly the rest of the diner fell silent as we began giving them
advice and explaining how we did things. How the First Wife and or First
Husband was determined. How the family's name was determined. As with
the Brightfeather's the wives had the largest financial contribution, so
the husbands took their last name.
The royal families of Terrellia and Lyconia were Matriarchal as was that
of Demonia, and followed the last name of the Queen.
"So we will all have the last name Arteria?" asked Sabina.
"Unless you should choose another, or to continue with separate last
names," we all turned to see Fox Lightfeather standing there with Mother
Rain. "But it is for you to decide together as a family."
I heard several gasps and realized that standing behind the Spirit Women
was Casseile the High Priestess of the Iridani Sisters of Light.
It was tense, Cardurann and Zandra had been filled in on the details of
High Priestess Sharda's deal with the former Delphi Raiders. Who were in
turn acting on orders from Cylon, who was now very much dead.
The Temples of the light had contracted the Services of the Tank
community and were installing new secure communications. And also going
above and beyond in an attempt to undo the shame that Sharda had put on
them.
"Sister Casseile has come at my request," stated Night Bird as she
joined the little gathering. "There is much that needs to be hashed out
between your two groups. Especially since hers was given the mission to
support yours."
"And what is it that she expects? Trust as if nothing ever happened?"
fumed Zandra.
"No that is something that we must earn through our actions. Even though
she was only one individual, her betrayals cast shame upon all of us. We
simply wish to know where best to begin. What we can do to give you
assurances that we will not allow such things to happen again," stated
Casseile.
Cardurann seemed deep in thought for a moment.
"Give us time to contact Seeker Ta Ray. And then we will meet aboard the
First Ship Hub, with all of the First Beings, the High Priestess of each
major temple, and the Seekers Council together," Trader suggested."
"And who is on the Seekers Council?" asked Zandra finally.
Trader answered, "Myself, Ta Ray, Tessa Loving, Cardurann Fire, Fern of
the Moon Clan, Veeda Tall Tree, and Tizzy Pierce for now. But only until
the other Clans are reestablished with an experienced Seeker."
"Agreed," echoed those present.
"Might I meet the others of the Council?" asked Cardurann. He hadn't
ever met Fern, Veeda or Tizzy. "And how many of the Clans have been
found?"
"Currently there are representatives of twelve of the original thirteen.
The only one that we've not identified yet is from the Wind Clan,"
stated Tessa. "But we have hopes to discover who was given an imprint
ring."
It was the first I'd heard that Tizzy was on the Seeker's Council, and
she looked at me sheepishly. I didn't like not knowing what was
happening with her, but I had to trust her. Seeking wasn't something I
knew about.
"There is actually a new Bone Clan Seeker?" asked Cardurann.
"Yes and she will probably be accompanying Tizzy of the Star Clan,"
answered Trader.
They hashed out a few details and agreed to all meet in three days
aboard Hub. The other Seekers here would be allowed to attend and
observe the meeting.
It was later after I got home that Sophie asked what had me in such a
good mood. Part of it was knowing that Tizzy was on the Council, the
rest had been seeing her and Kricket's interactions with a new Sun Clan
Seeker at the diner. Nor Vey had come with Ta Ray a few days ago, and he
was between Tizzy and Kricket in age. And very much interested in both
of them together, he was just more interested in Tizzy though.
And while Tizzy and Kricket shared a passionate bond that I could
understand seeing as how they'd both lost their families to Raiders. I
also knew that it wasn't real love between them, something Sophie could
see as clearly as myself. It wasn't like the love we shared together
with Donnie either.
I'd have liked to have talked with Ta Ray about him, but Ta Ray was on
Aviara trying to track down two Wind Clan Seekers that Astrid had
discovered in her probe of Sharda's hidden mind.
We were just sitting down to dinner when Missy called from some place
named 'Too Far Gone'.
"Malissa, I really need your help," she said. "I found someone, a
Rixxian. He's maybe nineteen I think, but he's not really conscious at
the moment."
"Missy you need to get him to a doctor," I was trying to think of why
she would be calling me.
"He has those tattoos like Tizzy's," she said. "And he's mumbling
nonsense."
"Oh shit, he's in Seeker Thrall," at my words everyone at the table
stopped talking. Damnit Tizzy was off with Kricket and Nor Vey. "Missy,
does he have any Crystals with him?"
"Yes he's got two, why? He keeps saying he has to find the Matrix."
"I'm not sure but I think he's in pretty deep. Let me call someone, hold
on," I picked up the house phone and called the diner.
"Brightfeather's," answered Carline.
"Carline its Malissa, I need to speak to Trader really fast. There's a
Seeker in trouble," I said.
"No they're all three right here," she said.
"It isn't Tizzy, this one isn't even on the planet. Please hurry."
"Malissa?" Trader asked a moment later.
"Thank the gods. Listen I have Missy on the phone. She's on some planet
named 'Too Far Gone' and she picked up a Rixxian seeker that is caught
up in Matrix Thrall. But he is in pretty bad shape, semiconscious," I
tried to explain in a hurry.
"Can you link me into the call?"
"Missy I have Trader, go ahead."
"Missy, what was he doing when you found him?" asked Trader.
"He was wandering around in circles in the middle of the freeway,
mumbling about finding the matrix. But he'd start one direction then
change it over and over until he just collapsed. He's pretty dehydrated
and I think maybe malnourished," she answered.
"There must be several Matrix' close by then, I'm going to send you some
help. Please try to get him some water at least, and have Beauty send
your coordinates to the Diner." As he'd been talking Trader had gotten
one of the Demonian tow truck driver's attention.
"I'm going to have Lotti Fall jump us to you," he said.

I kept talking to Malissa as I waited for them to arrive. I'd heard a
lot about Seekers lately, and so I'd realized that this one was in bad
shape. I'd called Malissa because it was instinct to call family first.
I wasn't sure what I expected when they arrived, Lotti had brought
Trader, Tizzy and two other Seekers in her wrecker, Short Drive. The
ones I hadn't met though were an older Rixxian, and an Orion. And the
two new ones were already acting strangely, turning in different
directions.
"Nor Vey, Kricket, go hurry and find," Trader paused as Tizzy got a far
off look in her eyes.
Then before he could ask she said, "There's another one." Then she
shifted to her Panther and went racing off down the freeway.
"Another what?" I asked.
But he was already inside Beauty seeing to the boy I'd found.
It didn't take the other two long to return, and the Rixxian was
beginning to come around. Lotti had left her wrecker here though and she
and Teaser had jumped to find Tizzy.
"They found the three Matrix' that had him confused," trader said. I
don't know what Tizzy meant but I think we should head that way." Just
then Lotti and Teaser were in front of Short Drive. Another unconscious
Seeker held between her and Tizzy.
Nirisanni Tay was maybe twenty five or thirty, she was also Omegan. So
how had these two gotten all the way out here?
"Trader," Tizzy got his attention. "We need to get out of here fast,"
there was a tension in her voice. "There are too many Matrix' here to
sort out, or to control the Thrall for very long."
"Yes I can feel them Tizzy, I can feel them all," he sounded like a
child in a candy store. Then he shook his head, "Thank you Missy
Wyoming, we must go now. You won't have any trouble it's just Seekers
that are effected."

We were almost finished eating. The girls were serving desert when
Sophie had a sort of far off stare like Bambi always got when she saw
something.
"Malissa, we need to go to the Diner, Tizzy is coming back," Sophie said
as she dropped her fork, jumping to her feet.
"Sophie, is Tizzy alright?" I asked.
"Yes but I think maybe she's going to need ice cream, and a shoulder to
cry on." Sophie had gone through a strange kind of enlightenment since
spending time with her mother. She seemed to have the ability now to
read the emotions of our children. But it wasn't always accurate, so she
seldom reacted to it.
"Oh no, what happened?" I demanded wanting to know what she'd seen.
"It's Kricket, she umm, she just totally flipped over that new Seeker,
and I can't get a very good feeling of Tizzy's emotions."
"If that Rikki Bitch hurts my sister," began Starlight and Anna at the
same time.
"You can tell your plans to Daddy after you're done with Mr. Dial," I
told them. "Donnie we're going to the Diner," I told him.
On the way I drove, Sophie kept having weird flashes. "Malissa, I don't
understand any of this," she told me. "It's almost like she's
intentionally blocking me out."
As we pulled right up in front Sophie was out and inside in a flash
before I even had the engine in standby.
I nearly ran into Sophie in the entry way though, and followed her gaze
to the private section. Tizzy sat there straddling Nor Vey's lap, their
faces pressed together. Across from them sat Kricket and the new Rixxian
Seeker.
Then I saw it, they were two separate couples now though both supporting
of each other. Kricket was helping him to eat, and telling him about her
home where there were more Mirrwick pairs. But he still sat there more
in a dazed almost trance like state.
Dr Tsing was busy with someone else though. And I asked Paula what was
happening. The new Bone Clan Seeker was named Skaahl, and surprisingly
he was actually closer to Kricket's own age.
I wondered how long it would take for Rixxia to find out about him when
Tereeza Vail entered the diner to pick up a carry out order for Fender
Skirts. She stood in momentary shock staring at Skaahl and Kricket.
Then she opened her Phone. "Meeti, bring Deeti and Coleena if you want
to meet Kricket Coor," she said. "And maybe let Claw know that she is
here with another Rixxian."
I was wondering how Tereeza knew Kricket on sight, but then again she
would have been in on the search six years ago when she disappeared.
I was sure that school would be interesting in the morning with so many
new Seeker students beginning classes.
