It's been 2 weeks since a hairstylist friend offered to give me tape hair
extensions. I've been growing out my hair but it was taking longer than
hell to grow out because of the layers I had before. A client had
recently cancelled an appointment for the next day and he could get the
right hair extensions by then. I just wanted some volume and a little
more length. Took the day off and had a great time while the extensions
were being done. They were 14 inches long - the shortest they came in.

It was hand fulls of luscious hair. My hair was already to my shoulders
but now my hair cascaded over my shoulders, down my back, and was
brushing passed my nipples.
I was stunned looking at and feeling all this hair. My friend watched me
for a while playing, then gently asked what length I wanted it to be. I
had thought not more than an inch or at most 2 inches longer than my own
hair, but I now had 14 inches more! It needed to be shorter, I could get
away with 2 inches at work but not 14 inches. My friend said we could
try it at several lengths - we just could not add anything once it was
cut. We agreed - 3 inches off. I was still stunned but also amazed at
all this hair. Looking carefully the color match was perfect, I could
not even tell the difference between my own hair and what I now had. But
I was still scared at how long it was and what folks might say. As we
talked, he said all I needed to do was put it in a pony tail and after a
few days no one will notice. I've never liked ponytails. I've always
loved the feel of my hair on my ears, on my neck, and until recently,
just touching my shoulders, now it was down my back and tickling my
nipples.
My friend repeated, we can cut it as many times until we get it right but
we can't add. I began to waver. I had the hair of my dreams, but I
needed more off. But not all! One more inch went.
My friend said this time, he wanted to trim it a little more carefully
and show me a style he thought I'd like. I loved what I was looking at
already, and I could feel the need to control myself as I stared into the
mirror watching as he worked his brushes and curling irons. What had been
a beautiful mass of sun streaked, blonde, beach hair was now curling over
my shoulders, ringlets fell over my ears, a wave crossed my forehead
catching my eye lashes. He began to separate the curls adding curling
ringlets to those surrounding my neck. I don't know how I controlled
myself - I so wanted to grab myself.
There in the mirror was my friend, with a wry smile on his face - he knew
what he had done. In turning my head into a mass of gorgeous curls, he
told me he knew my secret. My heart was pounding as I looked at my dream,
trying to believe that it was really me I was looking at in the mirror.
All too soon, he asked if I thought we should cut it shorter - he knew
what I would say - I wanted this hair, I wanted to look like the person
in the mirror, the person I had just become. I was my own dream. No
more came off.
As he made a few last changes he asked me to wave my head so he could
check how my hair fell. With that first wave, with curls swirling around
my face, I realized how much had just changed. There was no going back.
My friend asked if I wanted to go back to a straighter look before I
left. I had taken the day off - a Friday before a 3 day weekend - my
plans had just changed! I didn?t know how I would explain it at work on
Tuesday but that was too far in the future to worry about. All I was
thinking about was the dress I would be wearing when my friend picked me
up tonight.
