Morgan left a note in their secret hiding spot explaining why they had to go, causing Becky to cry for days that she'd never see her best friend again. Her father comforted her as best he could, but it would take a long time to recover from the shock of the suddenness and the fear that he may never see her again. Now, over three and a half years after being separated, the two were face to face in Poe. Becky saw the face of the girl she had come to see as a sister while Morgan was terrified that Becky would have a bad reaction to realizing that Morgan wasn't the same as she used to be. All they could do was stare at one another and wait for one to move, with Becky's tears flowing at the sight while Morgan was frozen. Finally, Molly asked, "Do you two know one another?" Morgan was first to respond, telling her, "Becky was my friend when we went to school together in New Bedford. Her parents watched me while dad was trying to sell guns made from my drawings. The notations that she was a special case as she was a rare entity, an avatar for a phoenix, made things interesting and tougher to place. There were few open course and a lot of classes that she couldn't take yet, leaving her with the majority of her classes with the other junior high kids and judo with the one person who might be an issue: Morgan. One class that was open was one that Mercy insisted she take: Flight 1, which Mercy happened to teach and which was one of the most talked about classes by the younger students. Mercy had her reasons for Becky being in it, her avatar was going to be tough to deal with as she was so young and if she wasn't careful she might lose herself to the spirit of the phoenix. Mercy could help her deal with the voice in her head trying to tell her what to do and show it where the metaphorical line is regarding what she will and won't do with her powers. Mercy, being and empath, sensed something was the matter and asked about it. Becky blushed back at her, with Mercy explaining, "Love is a serious thing. Luckily for the trio he didn't destroy anything and agreed to help her father get rid of her mother before she hurt Becky or did the stupid thing and tried to hurt the three girls. ----------------------- In a safehouse owned by Becky's mother on the outskirts of Fall River, MA, Mathias was awaiting a visit from Mrs. Jones as well as enjoying some personal, "fun" with his longtime lover. What he got was a visit from her, as well as her husband and father-in-law. The woman thought she had been a bit more discrete in her rendezvouses, but Aqua had his spies in the South Coast area who were more than happy to report to him just what she was doing and WHO she was sleeping with. Mathias thought he could sweet talk his way out of things, but Aqua put on a rarely-used feature of his powers: his water shield. Mathias couldn't make skin contact due to the shield and more importantly - the touch was relied on his mental control, which was negated by Aqua's own mental shielding and link to the water around him. Mathias was powerless against Aqua, which was why he personally appeared. Aqua was commanding in his presence and wasted little time. He towered over the meek Mathias and boldly proclaimed, "Try to go after my granddaughter and I'll personally drown you then slice every cell of your body apart from the inside out. Come after your former daughter and I'll rip your manhood off and feed it to the crabs. You are dead to your family. Don't try to go after them or it's your funeral." Mathias tried to run off but his feet slipped on a patch of suddenly appearing ice. Aqua stood over him and added further, "Your sister-in- law is adopting your daughter and nieces whether you like it or not. Your brother-in-law Mark did a stupid thing: he tried to kill Molly. If your father hadn't insisted, he and Grace would be dead. You just earned your final warning: stay away from the girls and Whateley. They will kill you if you go after Morgan, Megan, Molly, and Becky. You know who I mean, I have been in contact with them and have given my blessing to protect my granddaughter and her future wife. Try to attack and you will never see the inside of a jail cell. That's if you don't end up killed by your own kin. She's more powerful than she was before and unlike last time she has full support and a reason to fight. Love will make you do wondrous things, especially love of family. Don't go after her." With that, Mathias tried again to run but fell flat on his face. Mrs. Jones tried to run again but was held back by Vinny who forced her to sit. Aqua grinned and handed her divorce papers and a full report of all of her infidelities and connections to people who had tried to harm her daughter, all of whom were known to her and who stupidly gloated about, "Taking out the little carpet muncher." Aqua smirked while his son proclaimed, "Accept a full divorce with no alimony and full custody of our daughter going to me or every bit of dirty laundry gets aired. The fact that you sent a group of MCO agents after her while she was in school and it resulted in multiple students being hurt by them as they tried to protect our daughter won't sit well with the city. Hell, you are already going to be ostracized by the city when you show your face again in public." She glared at him to which he used a best lawyer voice and told her, "You sent multiple emails to the local MCO office and had meetings with them at your second safehouse. You are recorded by audio by my private investigator planning the assault and giving the express orders to kill her. No talk of taking her for questioning, no attempt to let her surrender: just killing her. They are already in jail for their crimes against the students, they will turn on you to save their skins. It won't work, their own boss is a friend of Uncle Taurus and won't let them get away with planning murder." Taking a breath, he added, "She is an avatar and one of the strongest at that. They couldn't kill her, she is a phoenix avatar - the Bennu. She will roast you alive with the heat of of the sun and not break a sweat." Mrs. Jones scoffed at that, to which Vinny casually told her, "Ask the MCO agents whose faces were burned down to bone. Ask the Humanity First linked cops who helped them, I'm sure they are almost out of rehab from having their arms and legs amputated due to being burned to charcoal. That was just the ones who fired at her and her classmates, the ones who tried to herd them into a killing zone were faced with a far worse fate: they were burned but not enough to go to the hospital. They have to endure prisoners whom they have tried to kill and who are upset at them trying to kill kids." Mathias left disbelieving Becky was anything but a snot-nosed little kid. When he arrived back at his hideout, a DVD was waiting with a typical, "play me" on it. The video caused him to gag, it was Becky at her last day of school during the MCO assault and showed that his views of her were way off. What was even more shocking was that she glowed red and floated in the air on a bed of fire. She had what looked like wings from her back and tails - all made of fire. Her eyes were ablaze in the same way, with her look into the camera almost daring whomever watched to insult her or harm her. What came next was 10 minutes of madness as the MCO agents fired into the classroom and tried to get at Becky. Her classmates screamed at them ant fought back, setting two ablaze with chemicals and hurting two more by flinging scalpels at their unprotected necks and hands. Becky was moved out of the room via a back door, with the MCO agents tailing. They barely made it to the door when the agents pushed in, causing Becky to send fire blasts at them that burned their arms and legs down to bone. Her classmates took their weapons and destroyed their guns, handcuffing them to their desks while Becky was moved out to safety. In the hallway, her classmates moved around her to try to protect her but were herded to where four of the agents were laying in wait. Becky sensed their presence and unleashed a wall of flame that hit all in its path but only burned the MCO agents. She burned them badly enough to cause their guns to melt and their limbs to look like overcooked meat and making the air smell like burned flesh. The ones who tried to come at her from behind and pry her classmates away from her by tossing them in a heap onto the floor saw their faces flashed with fire and half of their face burned away with the kids who were trying to protect Becky beating them senseless with their own weapons. She moved on to her next targets, the cops who were waiting for her outside and who were ready to kill anyone who stepped outside of the school. She could hear their talking, her ears were enhanced to the point of being able to hear a mile away if she focused and she heard them loud and clear from within the school. Becky blew open the doors and put up a shield to protect her from the bullets that flew at her, then sent her own wall of flame to surround the officers and cause them to scream in pain. She did the same to the MCO agents who were hiding behind their SUV, with the agents trying desperately to flee but were stopped by the arrival of state police and a complete MCO task force in power suits and angry faces. The agents had a look of glee but that soon turned to anger as their colleagues told them, "You are under arrest for assault, attempted murder, destruction of property, and whatever else we can throw at you." The MCO agents tried to scream for their colleagues to kill the dangerous mutant, all they received was an angry, "The only danger around here is you. You led an assault on a public school, shot at students in an attempt to murder a girl without bothering to detain or arrest her. You shot up a classroom and are lucky to have not hit any of the two dozen students inside. You are also lucky that they didn't kill any of your colleagues with any of the weapons available to students in a classroom. Attacking a science classroom is about the dumbest thing you can do! Between the chemicals and flammable materials, it's a death trap to assailants. That's not counting the fact that you set multiple ambushes that nearly killed multiple officers as they tried to respond. There was no excuse for firing on the local cops, you showed this was pure murder by trying to kill them." Laughter was heard from all around as it was the honest truth. The agents were taken away while the state police secured the school and ensured that Becky was alright then quelled the angry parents who had been riled up by Humanity First plants. The troopers grinned and asked the plants, "Are you 'plan b' in case the murder didn't work? Your buddies are lucky to be alive, the kid only maimed them. I hope it doesn't get out that they tried to murder a bunch of kids then pin the blame on a mutant only to see the kids outsmart them and save themselves." Mathias shut off the DVD at that point. His plans had failed again, and this time he was unaware of just how badly they had failed! He couldn't blame his, "Son" this time, it was his own fault as Becky was sent up to the one place he hated more than his sister and parents' houses: Whateley Academy. He had lost his last trump card. With Becky Jones out of play and in the hands of his "Son," he was left with nothing more to use against his family. Worse, her grandfather was already making waves and on the offense against him, making trouble for him before he had a chance to get his revenge. He needed to go for the gold, he had to get at Morgan and finish this. He had enough money to survive on his own for years, he could break contact and never return to the Boston area. He didn't know that he had already fallen into another trap as he had nothing left in his bank accounts thanks to Aqua. Mathias had been using cash for all transactions, he was actually flat broke now and ignorant of that fact. Mathias stupidly didn't wipe the laptop he used to extract the money he stole from Khaos, Ms. Manic, and Master Blaster and used the cash he had stolen from them to fund his moves so far. That error let Taurus' investigators get into his account and remove everything from it, giving all of the money to his grandchildren as spending money and to set up their new life. ----------------- October 31st, 2016 Poe Cottage, Whateley Academy For the foursome, it was a fun first two months at the school. Once the furor over Morgan being all but forced out of Basic Martial Arts by Ito Soke's prejudice against her passed, the school moved on with a few more bits of fun and excitement as only Whateley could ensure. The girls weren't part of any of it, but did enjoy seeing their classmates and cliques have their own little adventures, especially Twitch and her group - the (in)famous Wondercute as they run around campus trying to make things cute. The group tried to get Megan to join, but she declined as they were only really interested in her for her powers and not for what she was as a person. She liked cute things, but she wasn't obsessed with them as the Wondercute girls were. Morgan was recommended for the group, but once they saw that she was able to manifest armor that wasn't "cute" and with her reputation for building guns they didn't think that she was a good fit for their group's image. Morgan wasn't sure if she should be upset or happy to be rejected by them, so she turned things around and asked what they had against her designs as she had actually made cute ones before her father made her change them to look more "masculine" and "dangerous." That shut them up as she showed them a few designs that were based off of Hello Kitty and other anime shows that she knew they liked and her designs happened to be unlucky in that they could easily house special ammunition and batteries to make them deadly. Twitch was intrigued by the designs, Morgan told them off for being hypocrites and made them leave in shame while trying hard to avoid the looks of pity from other students. Morgan ignored the infamy that went with chastising Wondercute, instead she sought out solitude for a while and finding it by hanging around the quad while another outcast as there. Penny Dreadful was an outcast due to her attitude and powers, she was a manifester who could conjure what looked to be "dead" beings and make them do whatever she wanted. She liked solitude and tolerated Morgan as she was one of the few who saw her powers for what they were: her way of trying to reject people before they rejected her and not as scary as some of the other powers at the school. Penny Dreadful respected her for telling her like it is and not trying to be nice to her just because it was expected of her. Morgan knew enough about people to know when to be there for them and trying to be what you weren't just for appearances always upset her. Penny Dreadful was a good person at heart and was no different than Morgan: unique in her powers, unique in her body, and just wanting to be herself, but was so used to being rejected that she pushed you away to prevent rejection. As Halloween hit, the foursome decided to enjoy the junior high fun instead of the other activities Poe and the other cottage were enjoying. Molly had no problem telling those who asked what she was going to do that was joining her sisters and Becky in the trick-or-treating fun and was earning money thanks to being the only one willing to endure Karma and her hyperactive fun. As soon as she mentioned that she was being paid for watching Karma all joking stopped, with looks of pity coming across as it was the single toughest job on campus - Karma was brutal to her babysitters, thus few lasted long. Morgan liked Penny Dreadful's "dead" helper and complimented him whenever she saw him alongside his "master." He'd only groan in response, but it was a happy groan and was accompanied by Penny Dreadful's expression of gratitude. Megan, Molly, and Becky kept away from him whenever he was out but seemed to slowly realize that he didn't actually exist and was a decent being who was just a helper. The trio accepted Penny Dreadful's attitude and still pressed on, eventually being accepted as sincere by her and left alone by her manifested "zombies" as they said, "Hello," and sat with Morgan. She often heard them talking quietly and as she was never mentioned she let them talk, especially as she enjoyed the stories of utter stupidity by some of their classmates. She didn't gossip, but that didn't mean that she didn't enjoy the misery of people who made trouble for others and who crosser he path before. ------------------ The group spent much of the day talking about their costumes and had the other students intrigued. The group kept their actual costumes a secret, working after class on them and getting help from Molly's Costuming 1 teacher. She loved the idea of honoring the past as well as a special connection that they had to the various villains that they wanted to portray with their costumes. Morgan was The Imp. Megan was Mist. Molly was Pinball. Becky was the White Lady. And just to be a counter to their fun, Karma dressed as Tabby Cat and claimed to have caught them. Going as the White Lady required special approval from Glyph, a freshman who had inherited the title from her grandmother. When Becky had explained why she chose the White Lady to Glyph, Glyph felt pride in her honoring the memory and honoring those who were technically, "villains" but who weren't like the villains many believed villains to be. Glyph understood the connection that each had to supervillains and saw that they understood that they were criminals, but not evil nor did they do things that hurt people. Out of anyone who could dress up as the White Lady, Becky, Molly, Morgan, and Megan could do it and not disrespect the title. She was pleased that they asked first, it was why she insisted that they make the costumes right even if the runes that Becky would use were intentionally gibberish. The costumes were scaled-down likenesses of their namesakes' costumes, with Morgan wearing a layer of synthetic skin to emulate The Imp's skin and scales. Her horns were prosthetic and painted to look like The Imp's horns, with Karma giggling at Morgan looking so much like her mother but with smaller boobs. Karma had the most fun as she stood out from them in her subdued black and white costume, with Karma happy to be able to dress as one of her favorite superheroes of all time. When the time came, the five exited Poe and showed the school how much effort they had put into their costumes. Glyph was in tears as she saw Becky's costume, with Becky hugging her and telling her that it was the best she could do to make it look right. Glyph shed a tear and announced, "It's perfect." Karma led them on, going from door to door where the faculty and staff lived and getting a bundle of candy as well as a lot of praise for their costumes. Mr. Turner shook his head at Karma's costume, it was fitting and a big in-joke between Karma, her mom, and Tabby Cat. Morgan winked at him, nobody else said a word about that but it was clear that Morgan knew the joke and wasn't going to share. When they reached Imp's house, Karma smirked while Morgan grinned widely. Imp let out a big laugh as it was the perfect group costume. She did have to give a double-take to Megan, realizing just what it meant to her with Megan telling her happily, "What? She's the best at extracting information from places you can't access to. I'm sure you understand that?" Imp laughed hard and shot back, "Between the two of us, I think security construction doubled. She was great at her job and I'm proud that she's going legitimate. The group laughed as Imp's ego was all bluster, but she showed she was proud of Morgan's efforts. The five returned to Poe to drop their bags and dropped Karma off at home, then went to the quad to see who was voted, "best costume" among the students. To their shock, they won "best group costume" despite not entering. Molly accepted for all four of them, with all of them enjoying the spotlight. The group declined to accept any prize, insisting that it go to the high schoolers and enjoying the pride of having won against the older students. Mr. Mazarin and Mr. Turner both agreed and handed the prize to members of the "Cape Squad" who were dressed as characters from Hanna Barbera series. They all had a laugh as they stayed in character all evening and night, with the gadgeteer of the group enjoying a genuine chance to show off his souped-up "Mystery Machine" to the crowd. ---------------------- November 12th, 2016 Whateley Academy Quad Classes were boring for the foursome. Judo was great fun for Morgan and Becky as they had a leg-up on other students as they had some experience but were still low enough to get something out of their classes. Morgan had advanced up a rank and by the end of the semester would be another rank higher, matching that of Becky who stayed on her current level to help with the others in class. Megan had to deal with a growing problem that went hand in hand with her own growing: boys. She had several boys who kept trying to date her, with each not taking the hint to leave her alone until she told them off in ways that led to the boys vowing revenge but seeing every girl around closing ranks and demanding an explanation while telling them they were never getting a date at the school as they had threatened Megan because she refused their advances. It was a serious ego blow to the boys and saw other boys ready to fight them over their retaliatory threads for daring to stand up to them. Megan did have a few suitors who had potential, but she wasn't interested in dating yet. One boy was cute and barely paid attention to her, but he was focused on another girl. She vetted the girl and she did have a crush on the boy, so Megan steered the two together while being happy to have helped them get together despite giving up on a chance with the boy. The foursome's regular classes weren't too exciting as they got into the thick of things. Morgan got word that the school had agreed with her grandparents regarding the licensing of her program and saw her putting all money earned into a scholarship that would help students in need, particularly other changelings like her. Mr. Mazarin was pleased to tell her that it was a bestseller as copies were being ordered by schools from around the world and earning the school a tidy profit alongside ensuring at least two students were able to attend the school that Spring, saving their lives in the process. Things were buckling down as they reached the halfway point of the semester. They had two distractions left before finals: Parents' Day and Thanksgiving break. Parents' Day was the one day a year where parents came to the school to meet both the teachers and the students that their children attended school with. Many saw it as a time to mingle with fellow people who were dealing with issues involving having a mutant teen, while others were able to meet-up with old friends now that their children were following in their footsteps. For the foursome, it was the big day as this was the best time to strike as security was preoccupied with the influx of people. Morgan and Becky were part of a demonstration for the junior high program while Molly was part of a demonstration that the psychic arts department was putting on. Megan lucked out, she got the job being Karma's babysitter for the day and helping keep her out of trouble while Imp dealt with the parents. All four were happy that their parents and grandparents were going to be there, with Becky happy that her mother wasn't attending at her mother's own demand. She was just glad that her mother wasn't into dramatic showcases as she could make her life miserable if she did show up. Mrs. Jones wasn't above outing her daughter to the school in retaliation, but Aqua had ensured that she stayed away under the penalty of enjoying being frozen in a block of ice in Antarctica. Mr. Babich and Mrs. Horton kept the students from getting to anxious and told all of them that if there was any trouble the school would back them up, even if it was against their own family. She was proud of all of them for doing so well and staying out of trouble, with the foursome being given a nod as it was meant for them more than anyone else. Mr. Babich was proud of all of them for keeping the cottage neat and tidy and keeping their "fun" to a bare minimum. So far that year, only Megan and Morgan had suffered the indignity of detention over at Hawthorne for fighting in the cottage and even then it was planned for their own benefit. Hearing just how nasty it could be, the Poesies kept out of trouble and only fought when others tried to harm them. The day began like any other day, with parents arriving after breakfast and the students clamoring to show off to their families while doing their best to ensure they didn't go too far. Morgan was one of the few who was singled out for mention, as she was one of the most famous new students that year for all of the wrong reasons. Her reputation was known to many parents, with some giving her an odd look as she wasn't pegged to be someone who would cause trouble or make a "dangerous" weapon as claimed. Microbyte's parents were angry at Morgan for "ruining" their son's life and tried to grab her when she walked back to Poe after breakfast. Sam Everheart angrily told the parents that they were booted from the school for trying to assault a student and that they should learn to listen to all of the facts before they believed the word of someone who was diagnosed with a serious case of Diedrick's Syndrome. It led to a war of word that only showed that they were willingly ignorant of their son's behavior and he was just another in a line of pampered princes who could do no wrong in their parents' eyes. Mr. Boothe shook his head and loudly and angrily told the couple, "Your son is failing all of his classes. He's not going to be anything except a liability to any company as he is unable to do even the most basic safety checks on his gadgets before he uses them. This isn't just a problem this year. This year alone three nearly got hurt due to his inventions, and four of our best computers were destroyed by his programming. He is a walking time bomb and has nobody to blame but himself. He is dangerous, he is unable to listen to reason and unable to control himself. Get him help immediately." Sam escorted the couple away, with security ensuring that Microbyte didn't do anything in retaliation. Microbyte vowed revenge, but Mr. Boothe just pointed out, "Any action taken against Morgan will be seen as an attempt to harm her and result in your immediate expulsion. No more detentions, just kicked out with a one-way ticket to Boston. You aren't going to be around long, you have already failed all of your key classes this semester and what you need isn't offered until next year. I'm sorry, but goodbye." The students around Microbyte laughed at him as he was led away. Microbyte couldn't do anything but move along and pack his things, he had no reason to stay anymore. Morgan had beaten him and she had not even attempted to fight him. ------------------ Mathias gathered his forces in Dunwich and made his way to the school, forcing several sets of parents to smuggle them in with Mathias using his powers to get them to act normally. Security was easy to get past as a quick handshake on the exposed hand of the guard at the gate got them admittance without so much as a second look. He should have known something was up, but it was intentionally luring him in so the takedown could occur at the school and with extreme prejudice by security. Mr. Mazarin was told that Mathias was coming and readied their forces. Hero and villain, it was a rare time that both sides cooperated. Mathias Walsh was hated by both sides, the school was one of the few links that they had to one another and he was about to try to sever that link. Instead of severing it, he was going to strengthen it and give the school one heck of a Parents' Day to remember.
