Follow Your Dreams
Returning Home
Jeanie Pritchard waited till the last passenger had left the plane
before she went to the crew locker and retrieved her carryon bag. She
made a quick check to ensure that the magazine was still there and
joined Sue, one of her colleagues and a close friend and together they
exited the plane. By now the press and TV cameras that had greeted the
flight had dispersed and there was just the normal crush of passengers
arriving at Heathrow.
"Wow," said Sue, "flights like that almost make up for the shitty
flights we so often seem to have. I sometimes felt that I needed the
oxygen mask looking at some of those athletes; thought I was going to
swoon. I'm very glad I had a spare pair of panties because the ones I
started with got very wet."
Hearing these admissions made Jeanie start to giggle and Sue
immediately joined her. They were so distracted that they almost
tripped over the beginning of the moving walkway, which resulted in
even more giggling.
"Did you get to talk to any of them?" asked Sue after they had
regained their composure.
Jeanie's expression became more serious.
"Actually Sue I did and even now it makes me a bit emotional," said
Jeanie.
"Ooh Jeanie you devil, do tell," said her friend and she gave Jean a
gentle nudge with her elbow.
Jeanie frowned and said, "Oh it wasn't like that Sue. I approached Sam
Edwards with the copy of Vogue; the one where he was featured on the
cover wearing an Ellie Dean dress with the boxing gloves."
At this point Sue interrupted with a little squeal.
"Oh my God, Jeanie he is absolutely gorgeous. I don't normally get
excited by guys who wear dresses, but Sam Edwards is something else.
He looks like a beautiful woman when he's modeling, but in the ring
he's all muscle and menace. Sorry I interrupted you, what was it about
the copy of Vogue?"
"He signed it for Jamie, with a lovely message about staying true to
yourself and following your dreams."
"Wow that's great," cried Sue. "How is Jamie?"
Jean sighed and said, "Not good; school is really hard for her; she's
had to put up with a lot of bullying from boys and I'm sorry to say
the girls as well. She gets called freak and weirdo and much worse;
I'm really worried about her."
"I'm so sorry Jeanie; it is so hard for you as well. Being a mother is
a hard enough job at the best of times, but when you are a single mum
with a transgender child, well I can't imagine," said Sue giving her
friend a quick hug.
"Thanks Sue; it is tough but of course I'm hoping that things will
gradually get better. The really exciting thing is that Sam Edwards
gave me his contact details and said that he would be happy to visit
the school and talk to the kids and teachers."
"Jean that's great! What a kind thing to do. You are going to contact
him aren't you?"
Jean looked hesitant and said, "I'm not sure. He is probably really
busy, getting married and doing fashion shows and all the media
attention; he's probably forgotten already."
Sue stared at her in disbelief. "Jeanie don't be crazy, you have to
contact him. If he doesn't respond you've lost nothing, but if he came
to the school that could make a huge difference for Jamie. Jeanie you
owe it to Jamie to at least try."
Jean started to tear up. "You are right Sue, of course I must try;
what was I thinking?"
Sue gave her another hug.
"You are thinking about all the shit your child is going through; no
wonder you aren't thinking straight. How long has Jamie been out, if
that is the right word?"
"She's been presenting as a girl since the beginning of the year, but
she told me about it 3 years ago and she went on puberty blockers a
few months later after she had seen gender specialists. She is
officially classified as transgender and felt that she simply had to
start living full time as a girl. The last 6 months seem to have been
a lifetime, especially for Jamie."
"Does she regret it?" asked Sue.
"Not for a moment," said Jeanie emphatically.
"Gutsy kid," said Sue.
"She really is," agreed Jean.
By this time they had reached passport control which they rapidly
cleared. As thy both had only carryon luggage they were able to
quickly exit the terminal. Jeanie and Sue gave each other a warm hug
before Sue headed to the staff car park and Jeanie took the escalator
down to the Underground to catch the tube to Osterley which was a few
stops along the Piccadilly line that served Heathrow. Jeanie's house
was only a 5 minute walk from the station so she soon found herself
walking up the path of the terraced house and letting herself in with
her key.
"I'm home," she called out and a moment later Jeanie's mum Ellen, came
out of the kitchen to greet her.
Ellen was a slender woman in her late sixties with short grey hair.
She was retired from her previous job as a receptionist at an
insurance company and as she lived alone, Jeanie's Dad having died two
years previously, she was always pleased to stay and look after Jamie
when Jeanie was away.
"How's Jamie been?" asked Jeanie as the two women shared a hug.
Ellen spread her hands and said, "Oh she's no trouble at all, such a
good kid."
"And school?" asked Jean.
"Just the same," replied her mother. "Honestly I don't know how she
stands it; kids can be so mean."
"Well I've got something that will cheer her up," said Jeanie as she
reached into her bag.
Just then they heard a door open upstairs followed by Jamie's footstep
on the stairs.
"Hey mum, it's good to have you home," she said as she gave Jeanie a
warm embrace.
Jamie was one of those awkward looking teenagers; thin and coltish
with long legs. Her dark hair hung down to her shoulder blades and
framed her thin face, which was slightly boyish but not unattractive.
She had worked hard on her voice with the help of a speech therapist
and it did sound feminine enough that she was not taken for a boy on
the phone.
"How's things sweetie," said Jeanie as she released her daughter?
Jamie gave a wry smile and said, "Oh you know, same old, same old."
"I've bought you a small gift," said Jeanie and she handed over the
magazine.
Jamie stared at it in disbelief before bursting into tears and hugging
her mother again.
"Is this real?" she finally asked.
"Absolutely the genuine article. As you probably know the British team
came back on the special flight that I was working and fortunately Sam
Edwards was in my section so I was able to get him to sign your copy
of Vogue. I took it without telling you in case I wasn't able to meet
up with him."
"What's he like?" asked Jamie excitedly.
"He's a lovely man," said Jeanie, "very gracious and friendly."
Jeanie had decided not to tell Jamie about Sam's offer to visit her
school in case nothing came of it and that she knew would be a
crushing disappointment. All through dinner Jamie could talk of
nothing else and Jeanie and Ellen were pleased to see her so animated.
Later in her room Jamie found it hard to take her eyes off the
autographed magazine. She undressed and put on one of her favourite
nightdresses, a long silky gown in a light blue colour. She put her
school uniform out for the morning and sighed as she laid it on the
chair near her bed. She remembered how she had longed to wear this
uniform with its pleated tartan skirt and white blouse. She still
loved wearing it but it came at a tremendous price. As Gary, her name
before she began transitioning, she had been a shy gawky boy with only
2 or 3 friends. Gary had not been good at sport, which is so often a
passport to popularity. Now as Jamie her former friends, although not
hostile, were not socializing with her. Most of the other kids were
neutral, not really understanding how they should act around this
strange person who was suddenly in their midst. As always it was just
a few boys and girls who liked to torment her. Jamie had resigned
herself that this was the price to pay for being true to herself, as
Sam Edwards had so aptly phrased it.
Jamie climbed into bed and placed the magazine next to her pillow and
for the first time in a long while fell asleep quickly. When Jeanie
checked on her before going to bed herself, her heart gave a little
flutter as she looked lovingly at her so vulnerable daughter. She did
note however that Jamie's expression was a little more relaxed than
usual as she bent and kissed her lightly on the cheek.
Homecoming
Sam Edwards slowly pushed his way through the throngs of people
crowding the Arrivals area, scanning the crowd for Josie. Suddenly he
saw her but she wasn't alone; standing with her madly waving signs
were his mum Susan, the twins Kyle and Sophie, his boss Ellie and his
two model friends Kat and Leigh. Sam abandoned his luggage cart as he
rushed over to greet them. Naturally Josie received the first and
longest hug, but everyone in their turn was greeted warmly. Sam
reached into the inside pocket of his team blazer.
"Mum close your eyes," he ordered.
When she did so Sam quickly placed his gold medal around her neck much
to the delight of the others. Sue was flustered and embarrassed.
"Sam Edwards you take this back right now you daft sod," she said.
Sam shook his head and said, "Mum you won that medal ten times over;
without you I would have been nothing; I want you to keep it."
"Alright just for tonight," said his very proud mother.
Ellie had brought everyone in a stretch limo which was waiting
outside. Before they could get there they were of course ambushed by
reporters and TV crews all anxious for first hand reports of Sam's
sensational middleweight final win and his and Josie's wedding plans.
"Sam are you planning on wearing a wedding dress when you and Josie
get married?" asked an excited female reporter from one of the London
newspapers.
Sam handled this with aplomb. "I'm happy to confirm that the bride
will definitely be wearing a beautiful wedding dress," he said as they
reached the limo.
It wasn't until the car was pulling away that the reporter realised
that she had not asked which one of the couple was going to be the
bride.
Josie clung to Sam as the limo drove towards London.
"Oh Sammi I'm so happy to have you back in one piece," she said. "I
was so worried that you were going to get hurt when I watched the man
you fought in the final destroying everyone he was in the ring with."
Ellie laughed and said, "You should have seen her Sam; She kept her
eyes shut and was gripping my hand so hard that it hurt for 3 days
after. Finally when you were on the point of winning she was on her
feet screaming and throwing punches at the screen."
"Ellie you're exaggerating," said an embarrassed Josie.
"No she's not," chorused all the others and they all laughed.
Sam gave Josie an especially big hug and said, "Josie darling I really
appreciate your concern, but I was pretty confident it would end the
way it did."
Ellie made a point of dropping Sam and Josie off first.
"Take a few days you two; you have both earned it, especially you Sam.
When you are ready I would like to see Josie and Sammi back at the
office, we have so much to discuss."
The car pulled away and Sam and Josie let themselves into their flat.
Sam was astonished to see banners over the hallway and all the rooms.
They featured large prints of him in action and standing on the dais
receiving his medal.
"Kyle organised it," said Josie, "I hope you like it."
"Let's go upstairs and I'll show you how much I love it and you," was
Sam's reply.
A lot of the next 18 hours was spent in bed.
Wedding Plans
The next day as they were having lunch together Sam said, "Josie when
shall we get married?"
Josie thought for a minute and then said, "Do you think it's possible
to have a September wedding? I know that only leaves 2 months but it
can be quite small."
"I'm sure Ellie would help," replied Sam "And I think September would
be wonderful."
Sam was quiet for a moment and then he said, "Josie are you planning
to make your own wedding dress?"
"Of course; why do you ask?"
"I was just thinking about what that interviewer at the Olympics said;
you remember she asked who was going to wear the wedding dress and I
said you and you said me. Well she then said, almost as a joke, that
we could always get married twice."
Josie started to smile. "Is this going where I think it's going?" she
asked.
Sam looked a little embarrassed as he said, "Could you make two
wedding dresses?"
Josie roared with laughter and said, "Of course not Sammi."
Sam looked disappointed and said, "Why not?"
"Because I would see it and the bride should never show her dress to
her partner before the wedding, it's unlucky."
"So you don't like my idea of having two weddings and me wearing a
bridal dress for the second one?" he asked with a pout.
Josie responded by giving Sam a long kiss. She looked at him, her
expression full of love.
"Sammi darling, I absolutely love the idea of two weddings and you
being a bride in one of them. For that matter I'd love to marry you
every weekend from now to eternity, but I won't make your dress,
instead I'll ask Ellie to design and make it."
"Do you think she would?" asked Sam.
"Trust me she will be overjoyed to be asked."
"That would be amazing," said Sam with enthusiasm. "I know, why don't
I be Sammi all day? I'll wear a pretty dress and we can plan our
wedding."
"Sammi how can you always know how I'm feeling and what I'd like?"
asked Josie with wonder in her voice.
"Feminine intuition," said Sam and they both laughed.
Sammi went upstairs and changed into a pretty floral summer dress and
they spent the rest of the day talking and excitedly drawing up plans.
They had no difficulty in agreeing on what they would both like but
realised that the eventual outcome would depend on others, especially
Ellie.
"Right," said Josie, "let's see if we are in agreement. We have a
public wedding first, where I am the bride and you are Sam the groom;
all very traditional. It wouldn't be huge; family and friends from
both our worlds. If possible we would have it outside, but that will
depend on availability. Then we would have the second wedding the next
week and it would be very small, mostly girls from the office. Kyle
would probably be the only bloke there. We would have that in one of
Ellie's showrooms and it would be completely private. After the second
wedding we would have our honeymoon somewhere warm. How does that
sound?"
"Perfect," said Sam, "let's call Ellie tomorrow."
When they called Ellie the next day she was, as Josie predicted
delighted to be included and even more delighted to be asked to design
a wedding dress for her premier model.
"Leave it with me for a couple of days; I need to make some calls and
we'll see what we can do for a wedding venue. The second wedding
sounds just marvelous and of course we will have it in our main
showroom. Oh this is so exciting Sam," said Ellie, who was barely able
to contain herself.
A couple of days later Ellie called Josie and Sam into her office. As
usual when he was visiting the office Sam wore a pretty dress and
presented as Sammi.
"I have good news for you," said Ellie when she saw them, "Please sit
down. I have contacted a wedding planner who I know you will love. Her
company is called Andrea Carson Bridal Consultant and I have arranged
for you to have a consult with her tomorrow. I have excellent reports
of her even though she has not been in business long. Andrea Carson
Bridal Consultant was actually started by her husband who is now her
wife, Mrs. Mia Carson, who is now Andi's PA. There was no coercion on
Andi's part, Mia really wanted to be the wife in the marriage and I
understand that they are beyond happy. Now Josie please leave us for a
few minutes because I need to talk to your wonderful life partner
about the amazing dress I am going to make for him and of course you
will only see it at the second wedding."
Josie got up to leave but Ellie stopped her.
"Just one other thing that concerns you both," said Ellie who now had
a serious look on her face.
"Sammi are you definitely retired from boxing?"
"Yes as I promised you," said Sam firmly, "I will not fight again but
I will probably be involved with training, mainly boys and girls."
"Good," said Ellie. "This leads me to my next point. I would like you
to have permanent removal of all your facial hair Sammi; it will give
us so many more options with lighting when we don't have to use so
much makeup. Of course being permanent it will make you look more
feminine. Would this be a problem?"
Sam looked Ellie straight in the eye. "I love looking like a girl when
I want to, which is often and when I'm not in skirts I am very
comfortable with an androgynous look. But it really depends on how
Josie feels."
"Sammi my darling I love you in skirts and I think it is a fantastic
idea. When can Sammi start?"
Ellie grinned and said, "This afternoon; I have made you an
appointment at a very professional clinic, which I have used in the
past based on their competence and confidentiality."
"Ellie that's great news," said Sam, "I am sick of all that thick
makeup and it will be wonderful to be smooth cheeked before our
wedding."
"Excellent," said Ellie, "now leave us for a few minutes Josie while I
discuss important matters with your bride to be."
The clinic was everything that Ellie had promised; very professional
with a highly skilled technician. She explained the process and told
Sam that it would take several sessions over a few weeks before his
face was completely clear of hair. The first session was not
comfortable, but as Sam said he had experienced much worse in
training. Another session as arranged in a few days.
The next day Sam and Josie made their way to Andrea's Bridal
Consulting office. They were met by an attractive receptionist who
seemed very pleased to see them. She was wearing a navy pencil skirt
and a light blue blouse and you had to look very carefully to see that
she had not been born female.
"This is a real pleasure," she said. "My names is Mia and I'm Ms.
Carson's PA and actually also her wife. It was a tremendous thrill to
see you at the Olympics Sam and I can't believe that you are here in
our office."
"Thank you for fitting us in so quickly," replied Sam.
Mia knocked on a door behind her desk and opened it. "Sam Edwards and
Josie Grey are here for their appointment, I assume you'd like tea."
"Thank you Mia," said a voice. "Why don't you bring in a cup for
yourself; I know how much you have been looking forward to meeting Sam
and Josie."
When Sam and Josie entered the office Andrea came forward to meet
them. She was slightly shorter than Mia and wore black trousers and a
cream blouse.
"I'm Andrea, but everyone calls me Andi; let's get you comfortable and
we can discuss what sort of wedding you are looking for," she said.
Mia came in a few minutes later with a tray of tea cups, pot and a
plate of biscuits and after pouring the tea and handing round the
biscuits she settled down with a pad and pen ready to take notes.
Andrea quickly went through the big items of date and location and on
learning Sam and Josie's preferences for an outdoor wedding with the
opportunity of indoors, if the weather failed, she tapped away on her
keyboard.
"How many people were you thinking of inviting?" asked Andi.
"We were thinking of around 80," said Josie.
Andi pursed her lips and kept working at her computer for several
minutes.
"As I expected all of the usual places are fully booked; people tend
to secure locations over a year ahead."
Sam and Josie looked disappointed and then Mia gave a discrete cough.
"Yes Mia do you have a suggestion?" asked Andi.
Mia jerked her head in the direction of the outer office.
"Could you excuse us for a moment, I have to check something with my
wife," said Andi and she and Mia rose and left the office. Sam and
Josie heard a whispered conversation outside and then the pair
returned.
"We may have a possible solution," said Andi with a smile. "My wife
has reminded me that there is one location that would be available on
that date; it is a large house which sits in a beautiful garden and
should be able to accommodate 80 guests. I can recommend it because it
is where Mia and I got married recently."
"That sounds wonderful," cried Josie. "What is it called?"
Mia giggled and said, "Actually it is our house."
"We couldn't possibly impose on you like that," protested Sam.
"Actually we would be thrilled to do it," said Andi. "We are both huge
fans of you both and something like this would mean so much to us; do
say yes."
Sam looked at Josie who beamed and nodded. Sam jumped to his feet and
hugged Mia and Andi and Josie quickly followed suit. When Sam and
Josie left the office 40 minutes later they both felt that they were
walking on air. The meeting had exceeded their expectations and a good
start had been made in the preparations. They arranged a site visit on
the coming weekend and went home very happy.
On the Saturday Sam and Josie took the Metropolitan line out to
Rickmansworth and Mia met them at the station. She was casually
dressed in a floral sleeveless summer dress which swirled about her as
she got out of the car to welcome them. A few minutes later they
pulled into the grounds of Andi and Mia's house. The house was large
and imposing, but the grounds were magnificent; heavily treed around
the perimeter with oak, ash and laburnum, with a large expanse of lawn
and colourful flower beds.
Mia pointed to the path leading from the French windows on the side of
the house.
"That is where I made my bridal entrance," she said. "Whenever I look
at it I can still feel myself gliding over the lawn in my wedding
dress with Andi waiting for me at an altar under the oak tree over
there."
Jose gave a little sigh and said, "Oh how I would love to make such an
entrance in my dress."
"Me too," whispered Sam.
Mia laughed and said, "Two brides, now that would be an event worth
witnessing."
"Just one bride," said Sam, "I have insisted that Josie wears the
dress and is the center of attention; it's going to be her day."
"And yours a week later my darling," said Josie giving his arm a
squeeze.
"Oh not just two brides, but two weddings," said Mia. "Where are you
having the second wedding?"
"It will be a very small, private event in Ellie Dean's office,"
explained Sam.
"Why not have it here?" asked Mia.
"Oh we couldn't," said Sam. "That really would be an imposition."
"Not to us," replied Mia. "Now be honest, what would you prefer, to
make your entrance from the ladies toilet at Ms. Dean's office or to
sweep down the terrace, your beautiful dress sparkling in the sunshine
as you glide towards your true love?"
Sam sighed and said, "Mia you are right of course, I would love to
have it here.
"Good, that's settled then," said Mia. "Now come inside and see the
house."
The School Meeting
Jamie's week at school wasn't any better than all the others, but she
found that she felt better able to cope. It was as though the message
from Sam had given her a new strength.
Jeanie had waited a couple of days before contacting Sam on the email
he had provided. She was not really expecting anything to come of it
so she was astonished when a return came back from Sam within a couple
of hours.
"Hi Jeanie
Of course I remember you from the flight. How is Jamie? Please send me
your mobile number and I will call you.
Sam"
With her fingers trembling Jeanie replied with her number and a brief
message of thanks.
When her phone rang an hour later and she saw Sam's name listed as the
caller her pulse started to race and she hurriedly sat down. When she
finally answered her voice came out as a croak and she had to swallow
a few times before she could speak clearly. When she finally hung up
10 minutes later she felt like pinching herself in disbelief and it
took two strong cups of tea before she felt more calm. By the time
Jamie got home from school she put on her very best effort to appear
normal.
"How was school Jamie?"
Jamie gave a wan smile and said, "Oh you know, just the same."
Jeanie took a deep breath and said, "Well this is your last week of
school before the holidays and although I have to work tomorrow I'll
be back Friday; are you free on Saturday?"
Jamie smiled and said, "Well Mum as you know my social calendar is
pretty full, what do you have in mind?"
"I'd love to spend some time with my daughter and take her into the
city for the day to celebrate the start of the holidays."
Jamie's face lit up.
"Thanks Mum that would be great."
Breathing a sigh of relief Jeanie said, "Right it's a firm date; so
don't stand me up young lady."
Jamie rolled her eyes and said, "No chance of that."
Jeanie got home early afternoon on the Friday and was there when Jamie
came in from school. After their initial greeting Jeanie asked her
daughter if she was still on for their outing together the next day.
"Well I'm not sure Mum," she said pulling a face, "Kat Johnson-
Thompson called and wanted us to go out and practice her javelin and
then Jodie Comer called and suggested that the three of us go out for
a girlie day after I've helped Kat; maybe you could come too?"
"Very funny Missy; I notice no boys were asking you out," said Jeanie
with a grin.
Jamie sighed and said, "Sorry Mum I sent them all away; didn't you
know I'm a lesbian?"
"Come here you little minx," said Jeanie and she gave her daughter a
long hug.
Jeanie headed to bed right after dinner as the effects of her long
flight and lack of sleep were beginning to tell. However she awoke
refreshed the next morning at 9 o'clock and after showering and
preparing breakfast she spent at least 20 minutes trying to get Jamie
up. Finally a bleary eyed Jamie appeared in the kitchen and silently
ate her breakfast. Jeanie knew better than to expect much in the way
of conversation from a teenager after they had just got up, but after
Jamie had eaten and showered she became more cheerful.
"I want to leave in 15 minutes Jamie," Jeanie called up the stairs and
to her mild surprise Jamie appeared downstairs only 5 minutes late.
She was wearing a cute sun dress in a stone coloured animal print with
spaghetti like laces at the shoulders. She had paired this with a
denim jacket and strappy sandals. Jeanie looked at her and her heart
gave a little jump.
"Jamie you look adorable; I am so very, very proud that you are my
daughter," she said and couldn't help giving Jamie a hug.
"Thanks Mum, you're the best," said Jamie, "but promise not to do that
while we are out."
"I'll try to control myself," said Jeanie with a smile.
They walked to the station and took the first tube train into the city
and got off at Piccadilly Circus. They did some window shopping and
went in to one or two shops and at Jeanie's insistence Jamie tried on
a couple of dresses, but did not buy anything. By now it was after
1pm. and Jeanie made a quick check of her phone.
"I'm getting quite hungry and I'm sure you must be my dear; let's look
for somewhere to have some lunch."
By now they were in the Mayfair district and Jeanie suddenly stopped
outside a very exclusive looking restaurant.
"How about we try this place?" she asked brightly.
Jamie was aghast.
"Mum we can't possibly, it will cost a fortune."
Jeanie turned to face her daughter.
"My darling Jamie you have had a horrible year, but today I intend to
treat you like the wonderful daughter that you are; so no arguments,
your Mother knows best."
With that she opened the door and a bemused Jamie followed her into
the restaurant. At once the ma?tre de appeared and Jeanie whispered
something in his ear. The man bowed and conducted them towards a table
for 6 near the rear which was occupied by 4 women. The two facing
Jamie were absolutely beautiful; both tall and while one was a
stunning blonde, her companion was black and equally stunning.
Something passed from the two women's eyes to their companions, who
had their backs to Jamie and Jeanie, because one of them quickly rose
from her chair. She was slender and very tall and when she turned
Jamie felt her knees begin to give way a little; she was staring into
the face of Sam Edwards. The last time Jamie had seen him he was
standing on the highest point of the medal podium receiving his gold
medal and before that she had seen him in the ring destroying his
opponent. Now as he stood before her he was wearing a Highland print
dress with the pleated skirt reaching just below his knees. The dress
was belted with a V neck and the gorgeous Highland print of flowers
and leafy plants stood out on a black background.
"Jeanie how nice to see you again and this must be your beautiful
daughter Jamie," said Sam, who in addition to his dress was wearing a
huge smile. "These are my friends Leigh and Kat, who work with me at
Ellie Dean's and this," he said putting his arm around the fourth and
shortest woman. "Is the love of my life, my fianc?e Josie."
All four enveloped Jeanie and Jamie in warm hugs.
Sam laughed and said, "I think Jamie needs to sit down; she looks a
little taken aback."
Jamie was just standing there with her mouth open, but no sound was
emerging. Sam helped her into a chair between Josie and him, while
Jeanie sat opposite them between Kat and Leigh.
Sam handed Jamie a glass of water and said, "Sip slowly Jamie and then
take some deep breaths, it always helps me when I need to recover."
At this point Jamie started to cry, big tears and loud sobs. She was
immediately comforted by Sam and Josie who enveloped her in tight
hugs. When she stopped crying Jeanie handed her a tissue and said, "I
think I need to take my daughter to the Ladies for some repairs, so
please excuse us for a moment."
"Oh Jamie darling I'm sorry to shock you like this, but I wanted it to
be a wonderful surprise," said Jeanie once they got inside the Ladies
where she immediately held Jamie in a tight hug.
"Oh Mum I'm not upset, I'm just overwhelmed. It's unbelievable, just
the greatest thing that's ever happened to me," sniffed Jamie, "I
can't imagine how you did this, but thank you."
'Let's do some repairs on that face of yours and get back to our lunch
party and I'll explain," said Jeanie as she delved into her handbag
for the necessary makeup.
"I'm sorry I made a scene," said Jamie in a very small voice when she
and Jeanie got back to the table, "I am just so overwhelmed to meet
you all that I couldn't cope."
Sam laughed and said, "That's completely understandable Jamie; with
our combined height of over 18 feet, we 3 models must look pretty
intimidating."
"No. no I think you are all wonderful, but I still can't believe and
understand how it has happened," said Jamie earnestly.
"High time I filled you in dear," said Jeanie. "When Sam signed your
copy of Vogue he also very kindly gave me his contact information and
told me to get in touch to see if he could help in anyway."
"No Jeanie it wasn't quite like that," interrupted Sam. He turned to
Jamie and continued, "You see Jamie when your Mum told me that you
were a big fan of mine I was so flattered that I felt I just had to
meet you, so we arranged this lunch to give me a chance to meet my
fan."
They all laughed and just then the waiter arrived to take their
orders.
'By the way Jamie and Jeanie, this lunch is being paid for by my boss
Ellie Dean, so please order whatever you want," said Sam.
Jamie looked very relieved and gave a quick smile to her Mum before
looking more closely at the options.
"I really like your dress Jamie," said Kat after they had ordered
"Where did you get it?"
Jamie looked a little embarrassed and said, "M and S," in a small
voice.
"I love M and S," cried Josie, "I'm always buying things from there
for Sam and me."
Jamie felt very pleased and shot Josie a grateful look. "I love your
dress Sam," Jamie said shyly.
Sam beamed and said, "Thank you Jamie, the thing is I love wearing
dresses. Kat, Leigh and I are working today and fortunately Ellie
insists that I wear a dress whenever I am in the office."
He giggled and said, "Actually it's a great reason to go to work."
Their lunch arrived and they all continued to talk excitedly and made
sure that Jamie and Jeanie were always part of the conversation.
Jamie said, "You are all so wonderful treating me like a real girl and
not some freak." And she immediately had to dab at her eyes again with
a tissue.
"But Jamie," said Josie, "you are a real girl, a very pretty teenage
girl, so why would we treat you otherwise?"
"That's right," agree Sam, "they treat me well and I'm just some crazy
guy who loves to wear skirts and dresses."
The smile on Jamie's face was one that Jeanie had never seen before;
pure happiness.
When they had finished and Sam had paid the bill they all got up to
leave.
"Thank you so very much, it was just incredible to meet you all," said
Jamie.
"Oh we aren't done with you yet young lady," smiled Kat. "You and your
mum are coming back to Ellie Dean with us to have a tour and model
some clothes."
Jamie's hands flew to her mouth in amazement and she stared at her
mother with a mute appeal.
Jeanie smiled and said, "Yes dear it's all part of the surprise that
Sam and the girls have arranged."
Jamie hugged them all and couldn't stop bouncing up and down.
"I must be dreaming," she kept muttering.
Ellie Dean's offices were only about a 10 minute walk away so they set
off. Jamie found herself between Sam and Kat and they both seemed to
tower over her. Jamie studied Sam and Kat as they walked. Kat had that
easy loose sort of grace that made her such a sort after model. Sam
had the same ease, but he also carried a hint of the wild about him,
the walk of the top predator. Of course 6 women walking together,
especially as 3 of them were top level models, turned a lot of heads,
particularly those attached to male bodies.
"Get used to it Jamie, you will be getting this treatment as you get
older. You are a lovely girl and you are going to be a beautiful
woman," said Sam.
A few minutes later they arrived at the high rise building that housed
Ellie Dean's fashion center and took the lift up. They went in through
the double glass doors into the reception area. A young woman sitting
behind a large desk smiled at them and said, "Ms. Dean wants you to
show Jamie and her mum around and she will catch up with you."
Sam, Kat and Leigh led Jamie and Jeanie into the interior of the
company, while Josie headed off to her work area in the design
department.
Jamie was taken to the sewing room where some of the designs were
first put into cloth, photography and then they met up with Jenny who
was in charge of grooming the models and scene setting. Sam explained
who Jamie was and a little about the tour they were giving her.
"Well let's show Jamie how a model struts her stuff on the catwalk;
now which of you girls would like to volunteer," said Jenny.
"I'll do it," said Leigh and she went through to the wardrobe room to
select an outfit.
They were waiting for Leigh to appear when a voice came from behind
them.
"Sammi this must be the young lady you were telling me about and her
mum."
Jamie turned around and received her second shock, even though she
knew it was coming. Standing before her was Ellie Dean and once again
Jamie found herself temporarily speechless.
"So Jamie I hear that you are in the 5th form is that correct?" asked
Ellie.
"Yes," croaked Jamie.
"And what are your favourite subjects?"
"Art and English," said Jamie, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Do you draw?" asked Ellie.
"A little," admitted Jamie.
"Then please do me a favour," said Ellie. "When Leigh comes out onto
the catwalk I want you to make a sketch of her and I'd like you to
concentrate on her dress; see if you can capture the essence of her
dress."
Jamie looked nervous and said, "I'll try but I don't think I'm that
good."
"Don't worry about that," said Ellie in a kindly tone, "I'm just
interested to see one of your drawings and if I like it I'll put it up
on my wall."
"Now you're really going to make her nervous Ellie," said Sam.
Jenny gave Jamie a sketch pad and a thick pencil and when she was
ready Leigh emerged out onto the catwalk. She swayed down the runway
to the end, gave her characteristic swirl and returned with the skirt
of her dress swinging in a provocative manner. Jamie studied her
movements carefully and not until Leigh had disappeared behind the
curtain did she start to sketch. Her pencil moved swiftly and boldly
over the paper and within a very few minutes she was finished. Ellie
took the pad and studied it carefully. Slowly her head began to nod.
"I like it, I like it very much," she said. "I think that I'll
definitely put this on my wall, if you don't mind that is?"
Ellie turned the pad so they could all see. What was impressive was
that in a few deft strokes Jamie had captured the energy of Leigh's
performance and the sheer excitement of her dress.
"You are welcome to it Ms. Dean," said Jamie quietly, "I'm very glad
you like it."
"You have talent Jamie; please continue to work hard to develop it,"
said Ellie seriously.
"Now Jamie I have another little favour to ask of you," said Ellie.
"Do you think you could model some dresses for me?"
Jamie was thunderstruck. "Really?" she finally managed to squeak.
"If you wouldn't mind," said Ellie with a smile. "I am planning to do
more with teenage fashion and I would really like to see how a couple
of our designs work on a real teenager.
"I'd love to," said Jamie promptly.
"Excellent," said Ellie. "Now you go with Jenny and she will help you
get dressed."
A few minutes later Jamie emerged a little self-consciously at first,
but as she began to walk around she started to loosen up. She was
wearing a simple navy blue skater dress with a mesh hem. It was a
perfect look for a teenage girl and Ellie was suitably impressed.
Jamie went back into the changing area again with Jenny. When she
returned she was wearing a mid-calf polka dot skirt on a white
background and it was paired with a black short sleeved sweater. The
look was again simple but quite sophisticated.
Ellie nodded her approval and then suggested that Jamie leave the
dress on while she saw some of the rest of the center. A few minutes
later they dropped in on Josie at her work bench in the design
section. She was pouring over some sketches with a frown on her face.
"I'm not getting the look I want," she said. "I think I'll have to
wait till next week when one of the sketch artists is here."
"Why not let Jamie try, she is very good," said Sam.
Jamie blushed but Josie was enthusiastic.
"Oh Jamie would you mind; it would be so helpful; I afraid that
sketching is not my strongest point which is why I usually work with
an artist."
Josie and Jamie sat together for a few minutes while Josie explained
the look she was after. Ten minutes later Jamie held up the drawing
and Josie clapped her hands in delight.
"That's it, that's exactly the look I was searching for. Thank you
Jamie; you really are a clever girl."
Again Jamie found herself blushing with pleasure.
After spending quite a long time with Josie in design they headed back
to the wardrobe area where they met up with Ellie.
"Jeanie could I have a word with you for a moment please," she said.
"Oh and Jamie be a dear and put on the navy dress again; I'd like to
see it on you once more."
While Jamie was getting changed Ellie spoke to Jeanie for several
minutes and it appeared to Sam who was standing just out of earshot
that they had reached an agreement. When Jamie came out of the
changing room in the navy dress Ellie called her over.
"Jamie I'd like a quick word with you in my office if you please," she
said.
When Jamie and Jeanie were seated in front of Ellie's desk, Ellie
looked at Jamie and said, "Jamie I understand that you have just begun
your summer holidays, is that right."
"Yes, today is actually my first day."
"What are your plans for the summer?"
"Well Mums taking me to one of the Greek Islands for 10 days just
before school starts but apart from that I suppose I'll be spending my
time around home; I don't have any friends you see," said Jamie rather
sorrowfully.
"How would you like to work here for a month?"
For about the fourth time that day Jamie was speechless.
"You can help out around the office, running errands and I want you to
spend some time in the design area with Josie. I believe you have some
real talent Jamie and our artists can help you develop that. Would you
like to do that?"
Jamie could only nod dumbly for a few moments and then inevitably she
began to cry.
"Mum can I?" she said imploringly when she recovered her composure.
"Yes dear of course you can; I think it is a wonderful opportunity and
it is amazing that Ms. Dean has asked you."
"Thank you Ms. Dean, thank you, thank you, thank you," said Jamie.
"Well good, that's settled then," said Ellie crisply. She reached into
a drawer and pulled out some money which she handed to Jeanie.
"Jamie I'd like you to come to work in a skirt or dress. It doesn't
have to be fancy but something suitable for a working girl. I insist
that all the girls here wear dresses or skirts so I will want you to
fit in. Jeanie here is 250 pound, I want you to accept that as Jamie's
modeling fee and for her sketch work of course. I am sure that the two
of you can go shopping tomorrow; I think M and S would be an excellent
choice.
"Oh Jamie would you be able to start on Monday?" asked Ellie.
"I'd love to Ms. Dean, I really would," replied Jamie.
"Ellie we can't possibly accept this money," protested Jeanie.
"Industry regulations Jeanie, nothing I can do about it; I don't want
to get into trouble with the unions," said Elle blandly.
"Well I can't thank you enough for everything you and Sam and Josie
have done."
Ellie smiled at Jeanie and said, "My absolute pleasure; by the way
what are you plans for the evening Jeanie?"
"Oh I expect after all the excitement Jamie and I will have dinner in
front of the TV."
"I'd like you to come out to dinner with Sammi, Josie and me if you
can; I have established a tradition of taking new employees out for a
welcoming dinner."
Jamie and Jean looked at each other in disbelief and when Jeanie
smiled at her daughter and gave a nod of her head, Jamie let out a
squeal of delight.
"Jamie, you can wear the dress you have on and we will find the right
shoes to match your dress," said Ellie.
An hour later Jamie and Jeanie found themselves in a very upmarket
Italian restaurant where they were shown to a booth in a secluded
area. Ellie was clearly well known there because the staff treated her
with considerable deference.
Ellie ordered a couple of bottles of wine and a non-alcoholic drink
for Jamie and while they were waiting for them they made their menu
selections. After the waiter had brought the drinks and departed Ellie
looked across at Jamie and cleared her throat.
"Jamie I was very sorry to hear you say earlier that you did not have
any friends; is that true?"
"Yes it is. Ever since I started going to school as a girl no one has
wanted to have anything to do with me."
"Jamie that's dreadful, I'm so sorry that you are going through this;
no one deserves to be treated this way."
Jamie gave a wry smile and said, "It hasn't been easy."
"She's had a wretched time at school with teasing and bullying. The
teachers are concerned and they do their best, but they can't be there
all the time," explained Jeanie.
"Well Jamie you have 3 friends here," said Ellie pointing to Sam,
Josie and herself.
"Thank you," said Jamie in a low voice. "You have no idea how much
that means to me."
A little while later their food arrived and Jamie felt that she had
never tasted anything better. Being amongst wonderful friends was
probably a big factor in this though. Part way through the meal Jamie
put her fork down and addressed her mother.
"Mum, isn't Gran going on holiday for 3 weeks in July and August?"
"That's right," said Jeanie, "I had thought you could stay with Aunt
Deb, in Bath, if I'm on an overseas trip."
Jamie's face dropped and she said, "But then I wouldn't be able to
work for Ms. Dean."
"Oh shit," said Jeanie, "I hadn't thought of that. I'm not sure what
we can do; I can't leave you by yourself."
Jamie looked on the point of dissolving into tears when Josie spoke
up.
"Jamie, Sam and I would love you to stay with us when your Mum is
overseas. We have a spare room and you could come in to work with us
every day; it's really no trouble."
"Are you sure?" asked Jeanie anxiously.
"Completely sure," replied Sam. "It would be a great pleasure to have
Jamie stay with us."
Neither he nor Josie could say any more for a few minutes because they
had been engulfed by hugs from a deliriously happy Jamie.
When they finished the meal and Ellie had settled the bill Jeanie
asked one of the waiters where the nearest Underground station was.
"You two are not taking the train; I have arranged for one of my
drivers to take you home. I want this to be a special day for Jamie,
so don't argue," said Ellie firmly.
Jamie and Jeanie stood outside Ellie's car facing the others.
"I'll never be able to thank you for what you have done for my child
today," said Jeanie, her voice breaking with emotion.
"It's our pleasure," replied Ellie, 'We are delighted to show Jamie
just how much fun being a girl can be. Enjoy your shopping tomorrow
you two and we'll look forward to seeing you on Monday Jamie and bye
the way please keep the dress, it really suits you."
By now Jamie did not know how to react so she just said thank you as
she and her mum climbed into the back of the car.
"You are the greatest Mum in the world," said Jamie putting her arms
around Jeanie's neck, "And you are also my best friend, I love you so
much."
Jamie Starts Work
On Sunday Jamie and Jeanie again took the tube in to London; this time
to Oxford Street, where they headed to the main Marks and Spencer
shop. Almost 2 hours later they emerged with a number of carrier bags.
Because Jamie was well supplied with underwear they had concentrated
on buying work dresses, skirts and tops and were pleased with their
efforts.
"I think that's you wells stocked for clothes young lady, now you are
going to need some shoes so let's walk back towards Oxford Circus and
see what we can find," said Jeanie.
A couple of the shops were having sales so they were able to get 4
pair of shoes in a good range. Two had a modest heel and the others
were flat but stylish.
"If you are going to wear the heels at work Jamie, I would suggest
carrying them and wearing a pretty pair of trainers which will be much
easier to walk in."
"Good idea Mum," said Jamie as they headed for home.
That night Jeanie received a phone call from Ellie.
"Jeanie I expect that you might be a little anxious about Jamie coming
into the city on her own for the first time so I am sending a car to
pick her up. Really it is no trouble she is such a dear child that it
is our pleasure. Tell her to pack her bag for when she is staying with
Sam and Josie later this week as it will save her from lugging it
around on the Underground."
After the call Jeanie could only marvel at the seemingly unending
kindnesses that had suddenly descended on Jamie and her.
The next morning Jamie was packed and waiting for her ride. She looked
perfect in a simple dark green shift dress that came just below her
knees. Because the dress was unlined Jamie wore a full slip
underneath. Although most girls her age never wore slips, Jamie loved
the feel of them against her skin. She had packed a small wheeled bag
with clothes and other supplies for 3 nights while Jeanie was away on
her next overseas flight. There was a discrete toot of a horn which
announced that Jamie's ride had arrived. She gave her mum a big kiss
and hug and headed off to begin her new job. Jeanie watched her go
with feelings of slight anxiety, but mostly of great love. She then
picked up her phone and made a call to Jamie's school for an
appointment with the Head Mistress, which she got later that day. In
the afternoon Jeanie spent 30 minutes with the Head and was very
satisfied with the outcome.
When Jamie entered the office of Ellie Dean Fashion she was warmly
greeted by the receptionist.
"You must be Jamie," she said, "It's so good to meet you; my name is
Essie and I'm going to get Jenny Murchison who will introduce you to
some of the others and get you started on some work."
She put through a call to Jenny and told her that Jamie had arrived. A
couple of minutes later Jenny came into the reception area with a big
smile on her face.
"Good morning Jamie, I'm so glad you are here. I really like your
dress; it's just perfect for working here. Come with me and we will
find a place to store your suitcase and handbag and then I'll show you
around. Ms. Dean is on a conference call at present, but I expect she
will see you later."
Jenny led her to her own office and they put Jamie's suitcase in a
corner. Jenny then showed her the staff room, which had toilets, a
cloakroom and a kitchen and lunch area.
"Most of us eat at our desks if we are busy or we go out to eat, so
you might want to bring your own lunch. We will probably want you to
help with tea and coffee for the staff and you will find everything in
the cupboards and fridge. Speaking of tea, would you like a cup now?"
"Yes please," said Jamie quietly.
They took their cups to Jenny's office where Jamie was required to
fill in a few forms and Jenny gave her an outline of her duties.
"You are going to be our Girl Friday, which means you will be doing a
bit of everything. We will make sure though to give you plenty of time
with Josie and the others in design."
After they had finished their tea Jenny took Jamie through to the
wardrobe section.
"I will probably need your help in here from time to time Jamie;
helping me to sort different outfits; restock them and occasionally we
may need you to model something if our regular models are out of the
office or we need a particular look; is that okay."
"Yes Ms. Murchison I would love to help you here in any way that I
can," said Jamie enthusiastically.
"Excellent," said Jenny, "Now I'll take you over to design and have
Josie introduce you to the staff there."
When Josie saw Jamie she immediately jumped up and came over and gave
her a warm hug.
"Welcome Jamie, I am so pleased to have you here to help us. Come with
me and I'll introduce you to the rest of the team."
The rest of the team consisted of cutters, sewers, photographers and
of course the designers themselves. Two of the designers were young
men but all the rest of the team were women.
"Jamie one of your jobs will be fetching different fabrics for the
sewers and cutters," said Josie. "You will be very popular with them
because they hate having to go over to the fabric section when they
are absorbed in their work," explained Josie.
Next Josie took her young friend over to the large fabric section and
began to describe the various fabrics. Jamie had a large notebook with
her and she scribbled down as much of the information as she could.
She also cut a small swatch of the different cloths and stuck them in
the book next to the description. Jose also gave her a copy of a
colour chart to memorise.
"Come and sit next to me and you can begin to go over your notes and
the different colours. We will stop for lunch in about half an hour
and seeing as you didn't bring your today I'll go out with you to a
deli nearby," said Josie.
30 minutes later Josie called a halt and she and Jamie collected their
handbags and walked a short way down the street to the deli Josie had
mentioned. As the weather was fine they took their lunch to a small
park and found a bench where they could sit and relax.
"Well Jamie, how is your first day so far?" asked Josie.
"I'm really loving it," said Jamie. "everyone has been so nice to me.
I feel as though I am being accepted for who I am and not some freak."
"You are certainly not a freak," said Josie firmly. "You are a really
nice teenage girl with so much to offer. I am very glad to have met
you and to be able to work with you."
Jamie gave a little sniff and said, "Thank you," in a tiny voice.
During the afternoon Jamie was kept busy working with the cutters and
sewers and was continually scuttling back and forward to the fabric
area bringing and returning various samples of cloth. At 4 o'clock
Jenny sent her home for the day and told her how pleased they all were
with her work. Riding home on the tube that afternoon Jamie felt as
though maybe her life had turned in a better direction.
"How was your first day sweetie?" asked Jeanie as soon as Jamie came
in the door.
"Mum it was wonderful," replied Jamie as she gave her mum a big hug.
Jamie spent most of the evening studying her notes and the fabric
samples and also went on line to learn more about the fabrics that the
designers were using. When Jeanie looked in on her before she went to
bed she was thrilled to see Jamie fast asleep with a little smile on
her face.
"Have a good trip Mum," said Jamie as she hugged her mum goodbye the
next morning and as Jeanie watched her daughter disappear up the
street she couldn't help notice that she had a real spring in her
step.
Jamie's day was similar to the first, except that Ellie had her do a
little more of running errands for the various departments. She also
spent quite a lot of time with Sasha, one of the fashion artists.
Sasha had Jamie do a drawing of a dress that was draped over a
mannequin. When she had finished Sasha made some suggestions about how
her technique could be improved. In particular she showed Jamie better
ways of drawing folds and wrinkles in clothes to make them look more
authentic. Jamie promised to practice the new techniques whenever she
had the chance. When 4 o'clock came around she filled in time
sketching while she waited for Josie. They travelled back to Josie and
Sam's flat and when they arrived they found that Sam was already home.
He had been for a run, had just finished showering and was down in the
kitchen preparing tea and a snack when Josie and Jamie walked in. Sam
was just wearing a pair of shorts and Jamie, although not attracted to
men felt herself take a sharp breath in, when she saw him. His long
dark hair hung over his shoulders, but what really attracted her
attention was his physique. He was slim, almost slender, but his
muscle development was extraordinary; not especially bulky but very
well defined. He moved with an easy athletic grace and Jamie who was
very fond of literature and composition suddenly had the impression
that he resembled a whip; thin, hard and wickedly fast, with a fearful
sting.
He hugged and kissed Josie and gave a light hug to Jamie.
"Jamie my apologies for being only half dressed; I thought I had time
for a quick snack and cup of tea before you arrived. The kettle has
just boiled if you two would like one."
He quickly refilled the kettle and plugged it in before starting
upstairs.
"I'll just make myself more presentable; I won't be a minute," he
said.
Jamie and Josie were sitting at the kitchen table with their tea when
he returned and the contrast could not have been greater. Sam was
wearing an airy white cotton dress, with a full skirt that came down
to the mid-calf. His long dark hair made a dramatic contrast to the
whiteness of the dress. He smiled when he saw Jamie's surprised
reaction.
"Jamie I often wear dresses and skirts at home," he said. "I find them
so comfortable and it is good practice for me. Unlike my fellow models
I didn't grow up wearing skirts and dresses so I
need to become more accustomed to wearing them."
After Jamie had finished her tea Josie took her upstairs and showed
her her bedroom for the night. Jamie unpacked her case before
returning downstairs to help with preparing the dinner. As they sat
eating Sam began to think about ways of helping Jamie.
"Jamie," he said, "I just want to assure you that you can tell us
whatever you want to about your life, past, present and future and
Josie and I will keep it all between us; anything you want to say
stays with us. Some people find that talking about previous events is
helpful and others don't, so it's up to you we won't ever pry."
"Thank you Sam, you have all been so incredibly kind. Actually it
would be great to have someone to talk to. Someone other than Mum,
that is. My Mum is the absolute greatest and has been from the very
beginning, but it would be helpful to talk to others."
She paused and took and deep breath.
"Well here goes," she said. "I never knew my father as he walked out
when I was a baby and neither of us has seen or heard from him since.
This made me very close to my mother and I grew up absolutely adoring
her. As long as I can remember I wanted to be just like her and I can
recall feeling cheated that I wasn't a girl. I started trying to wear
some of her clothes when I was 8 or nine but of course they were far
too big and looked ridiculous. I told her about 3 years ago and I can
still remember her reaction. She gave me a huge hug and said that she
loved me with all her being and would always support me."
These reminiscences caused Jamie to become a little teary and she had
to take a short break.
"Have the last 6 months been bad at school?" asked Josie gently.
Jamie nodded and said, "Yes it's been bad. Not all the kids are mean,
but enough of them call me names, bump into me deliberately and
sometimes lift my skirt, that I can't wait to finish school for the
last time."
Sam and Josie shook their heads and said how sorry they were that
Jamie had been going through such torment.
She smiled and said, "Sam and Josie, you will probably never know how
much your support means to me. For the first time I feel like I can
make it, which is something I never thought I could say; thank you."
Sam squeezed her arm and said, "Jamie you are our friend and I believe
you will have a lot more in the future."
"Jamie can I ask you a personal question?" said Josie.
"Of course."
"Are you taking hormones?"
Jamie sighed and said, "Not yet; I have to wait another 6 months
before I can start and then another year before I am eligible for
surgery."
"Are you planning to have surgery?" asked Josie gently.
"Oh yes I can't wait until what is between my legs matches every other
woman," said Jamie emphatically.
Sam looked at her seriously and said, "Jamie you are a brave girl and
we will help you as much as we can."
"You have done so much already," Jamie protested.
Josie smiled and said, "Oh Jamie we are just getting started."
"Jamie," said Sam suddenly, "do you play any sports?"
Jamie shook her head and said, "No, I was never any good at sport,
which may be just as well because I can't imagine anyone wanting me on
their team."
"Well do you do any exercise?" Sam persisted.
Again Jamie shook her head. "Just walking to school," she said.
"Jamie you have to start doing regular strength exercises."
"But I don't want to be a boy," protested Jamie.
"Girls need to be strong, maybe even more than boys, because boys get
natural strength with their hormones," said Sam.
"I don't want to get muscles that make me look like a boy," said Jamie
with a sniff.
"You won't get big muscles Jamie but you will get stronger and still
look like a girl."
He thought for a moment and then continued, "Look Jamie there is
someone I want you to meet; is it okay if I ask her to come to dinner
tomorrow?"
Jamie nodded and Sam left the table to make a phone call.
Jamie Makes Another Friend
When Jamie and Josie arrived home the next day they found Sam in the
kitchen with a young woman. When Josie saw her she gave a cry of
delight and rushed forward to embrace her.
"Sally, it's lovely to see you," she said. She turned to Jamie and
said, "Jamie I'd like you to meet Sally Trace; you might know that she
was one of Sam's team mates and she also won a gold medal on the same
night as Sam."
"Jamie I'm really pleased to meet you," said Sally warmly, "Sam has
told me a lot about you."
Jamie's eyes became wide and her mouth hung open.
Sam looked at Sally and Jamie and said, "Right let's get started
then."
Jamie looked puzzled until Sam said, "Sally and I are going to get you
fit and strong Jamie, so after you get changed we'll go through to the
gym."
"But I haven't got any exercise clothing," protested Jamie.
"Oh yes you do," said Sally handing her a bag.
When Jamie opened the bag she gave a little shriek of joy because
inside was the boxing top and shorts of the GB Olympic women's team.
"Wow that is amazing, thank you so much. I'll wash it carefully before
I return it," said Jamie gratefully.
Sally smiled and said, "You should certainly wash it Jamie, but you
won't be returning it because it is now yours."
Jamie shrieked again, but louder and hugged Sally joyfully.
"I'll never be able to thank you enough," she said.
"You can thank me by getting fit and strong," said Sally with a grin.
"Oh and I have something else for you," and she handed Jamie a strong
cardboard cylinder.
Jamie hurriedly pulled the top open and drew out what appeared to be a
rolled up poster. When she unrolled it and took in the image she
started to cry. The poster showed the entire GB Olympic boxing team,
with their signatures and messages of support. Across the top in big
letter someone had written "Be true to yourself and follow your
dreams." Sam, Josie and Sally all hugged her and Sam said, "You might
want to save some of those tears for your workout session Jamie."
Jamie looked alarmed until Sally said, "He's only teasing you Jamie;
we'll make the first session fairly gentle."
Jamie ran upstairs to change and came down a few minutes later beaming
with pride in her new outfit. Sam led them through to the back of the
flat where there was a small room next to the laundry that he and
Josie had converted into a gym. There was a punching bag suspended
from the ceiling, a bench, a chin up bar and a few mats.
Sally was wearing a pair of shorts and a baggy sweatshirt, which
completely covered her body and arms. Sam had shorts, a boxing vest
and hard muscles.
"Okay Jamie we just want to get an idea of what you can do. Please
don't be embarrassed because the weaker you are the more you will
improve," said Sam in an encouraging tone.
"Right Jamie, show me how many chin ups you can do," said Sam pointing
to the bar.
Jamie took hold of it but was only able to raise herself a few inches
from the floor.
"Okay now show me how many press ups you can do."
This time Jamie managed two before her arms gave out.
"Sally you do it," said Sam.
Sally grabbed the bar and effortlessly did 20 chin ups before dropping
lightly to the ground. Then she stood near the wall, put her hands
down and climbed her feet up the wall until they were almost 5 feet
from the ground. She then rattled off 20 press ups before walking
forward on her hands and then somersaulting gently to the ground. She
stood up with a big grin on her face.
"I was like you when I started Jamie," she said.
"Now Sally take your shirt off," said Sam.
Sally did so and underneath she was wearing the same type of boxing
outfit as Jamie.
"Now Jamie what do you see?" asked Sam.
"I don't understand," said Jamie.
"Do you see a boy or a girl?"
"I see a beautiful young woman," answered Jamie.
"Do you think she is strong?"
"Absolutely," affirmed Jamie.
"You see Jamie, being strong won't make you any less feminine and you
are not going to develop huge muscles."
"Okay Sam and Sally, I'll do whatever you say," said Jamie with a new
determination in her voice.
The workout was searching but not exhausting and when it was over
Jamie did not feel devastated, but she did know she had been pushed.
They put her in boxing gloves and taught her how to punch correctly
and had her practice on the bag.
"We are not trying to turn you into a boxer, unless you want us to,"
explained Sally, "But it is a great way to get a really good workout
and who knows it might even be useful someday."
Jamie was also taught how to do squats correctly and some modified
press ups. The chin ups were done with either Sally or Sam helping to
lift her. When they were satisfied that Jamie had done enough, Sally
and Sam both took turns at wearing the pads while the other threw
various combinations of punches. Jamie was amazed at the speed and
precision that they both demonstrated.
"I thought that you were retiring from boxing Sam," said Jamie.
"I am," Sam replied, "But I do need to stay fit for modeling and my
own satisfaction and I also plan to train other young fighters."
Later after they had showered Jamie came down for dinner to find the
others were already there. She was surprised to see all 3 of them
wearing pretty dresses. When she remarked on this Sally said, "Being
feminine doesn't mean being weak."
Jamie suddenly felt very tired and shortly after dinner excused
herself and went up to bed. Sally stayed for a bit longer.
"Poor kid," she said, "she's had a hell of a life, especially the last
6 months."
"Which makes the role models she is getting now even more important,"
observed Josie.
Every day that she stayed with them, Sam put Jamie through a similar
workout, sometimes with Sally's help. On the days that she was back
home she was given exercise homework, which she conscientiously
completed. By the time her work experience ended Jamie was a lot
fitter and was able to punch the bag with more authority. Although she
was in no state to fight her tormentors she felt a lot more assured.
On her last day Ellie and the staff had a small reception for her and
she left the office with two carrier bas of gifts and a promise that
she could return the next year for another summer job. Sam and Josie
also arranged to see her every week or so. By now they had formed a
strong bond with Jamie and wanted to see her continue to grow.
At the end of August Jeanie and Jamie went for a holiday to Crete
using Jeanie's staff passes on BA. Jamie's passport was still in the
name of Gary, but there were no problems with immigration because she
presented a letter from her specialist confirming her transgender
status. The week was wonderful for mother and daughter who really
relished each other's company. Jeanie hired a car so they were able to
visit historical sights, hike through some of Crete's remarkable
gorges and swim in the warm Mediterranean. The time passed all too
quickly and as their plane touched down in London Jamie felt a little
lurch in her stomach as she realised that in two days she would be
back in school. When Jeanie checked the messages on their phone there
was one from the school requesting that Jamie report to the office as
soon as she arrived on the first day. Jamie was a little surprised but
not particularly concerned by the request.
The School Visit
Stepping into her skirt for the first day back at school was a bitter
sweet moment for Jamie. She loved the thought of being a school girl,
but the baggage that came with it was a terrible burden. Jeanie gave
her a hug and kiss as she left for school and as soon as the front
door closed she hurried to get ready herself.
When Jamie entered the school office she was told that the
headmistress wanted to speak with her and that she would be called in
a few minutes. Soon after the door opened and Mrs. Gray, the
Headmistress, called her into her office. She entered and stared in
amazement at the smiling faces of Sam and Sally who were dressed in
the tracksuits of the GB Olympic Boxing team.
"Surprise!" cried Sam and Sally in unison.
Mrs. Gray showed Jamie into a chair, before taking a seat herself.
"Jamie I'm sure that this is indeed a surprise and a very pleasant
one," she said. "Mr. Edwards and Ms. Trace have very kindly agreed to
come to talk to the school about their experiences and the problems
they have had to encounter in becoming Olympic champions. I understand
that they are special friends of yours and I am hopeful that their
talk will help make things a little easier for you this year. Don't be
alarmed," she said seeing Jamie tense up, "You will not be mentioned
by name, but everyone will be left in no doubt that the bullying you
have suffered must end."
Her phone rang and she picked it up, listened for a moment and then
hung up.
"Right," she said, "all the students are in the assembly hall and we
will go there now."
She opened the door and ushered her guests out of the office and Jamie
received her second surprise. Her mother was standing outside waiting
for them.
"Mrs. Pritchard, I am going to take you and Jamie backstage to watch
our guest's presentation in privacy. You will be off to one side, but
you'll be able to see everything perfectly. When our guests have
finished you can escort them the staff room where we are putting on a
special lunch for the staff, you and Jamie and of course our
distinguished guests," said Mrs. Gray as she led them down the
corridor towards the assembly hall.
The four of them were shown to comfortable chairs in the wings of the
hall and Mrs. Gray strode out onto the stage to join the rest of the
staff.
"Good morning and welcome back to our new school year; I hope that you
all had pleasant holidays."
She paused for a moment and said, "One of the things I most enjoyed
this summer was watching the Olympic Games and cheering on some of our
athletes. Let's recapture a couple of those moments."
The large screens to each side of the stage lit up with highlights
from Sally Trace's impressive win in her middleweight bout. This
brought loud cheers from the audience, which increased in volume when
the scene switched to the final round of Sam's bout.
"I thought that would liven you up," said Mrs. Gray with a smile. "Now
I want you to give a warm welcome to the stars of those pieces, Sam
Edwards and Sally Trace."
This was the signal for Sam and Sally to make their entry and when
they did so the hall erupted with boys and girls all standing,
stamping and cheering. When the hubbub subsided Mrs. Gray introduced
the two guests.
"Sam and Sally have very generously agreed to spend time with you
today. They are going to talk to you about important issues in your
lives here in this school and beyond. They will also be giving you a
demonstration of their prowess, although I have been assured that no
one will be injured. Over to you Sam and Sally."
Sam turned to Mrs. Gray and asked, "How many students do we have
here?"
"Just over 800," she said.
"Wow," said Sam, "I was expecting that only about 3 would show up when
they knew we were coming."
This brought laughter from the audience which increased with Mrs.
Gray's reply.
"We didn't tell them," she said.
"Look," said Sam, "Sally and I won't keep you long because we know
that you are keen to get to your maths classes."
This was greeted with loud shouts of "No, no please stay."
"Okay if you are really sure," said Sam. "I hope that we can tell you
some things that may be interesting and even useful; Sally do you want
to start."
Sally looked out at the students. They were seated with the girls on
the right and the boys on the left.
"It's great to be here," she said. "It takes me right back to when I
was at school, which was certainly after the last war. I see that you
are still wearing school uniforms just like in my day. Let me ask the
girls how do you like the design?"
This was greeted with loud hoots and boos from the girls and snickers
from the boys.
"I'll let you in on a secret so please don't tell Mrs. Gray," she said
glancing behind her. "But I hated wearing a skirt to school. Now I
know not everyone shares this opinion; I know Sam here doesn't."
This was greeted with roars of laughter from everyone.
"The reason I hated wearing a skirt was that some boys and I know you
are not going to believe this, would sometimes lift a girls skirt to
embarrass her, but I'm sure that would never happen here."
Loud cries to the contrary came from the girl's side of the hall.
"Well," continued Sally, "that's one of the reasons I got into boxing.
As a kid I was pretty ordinary and gawky and for some reason seemed to
attract more than my fair share of bullying, not that there is ever a
fair share of bullying. I had an older brother who was going to a
local gym and he took me with him one day. As soon as I walked into
the place I knew that this was what I wanted to do and I started going
as often as I could. A few months later something bad happened."
She paused and turned towards Mrs. Gray and said, "Is it okay if I
tell them?"
Mrs. Gray nodded and Sally continued.
"I had just finished a bad day; I had loads of homework due and I'd
done badly in a test. I was walking out of class when this boy came up
behind me. Have you ever met one of those really annoying boys, the
sort who are always making snide remarks about girls and doing mean
things; do you girls know anyone like that?"
Of course this was met with loud cries to the affirmative.
"Anyway what this boy, whose name was Nigel, did was to snap my bra
strap with one hand and lift my skirt with the other. Now what I
should have done," said Sally, who was enjoying herself immensely.
"Was to have turned round and said, "Don't do that Nigel it's not
nice; it hurts when you snap my bra and it's embarrassing when you
lift my skirt." I did turn around but I didn't scold Nigel, instead I
punched him in the eye."
This time the girls roared and screamed their approval and it was some
time before they became quiet.
"The next day Nigel came to school and glared at me with one eye,
because the other was black and partly closed. When I left school that
day, there was Nigel at the school gates with this very large angry
looking woman, who I realised was his mother. Nigel pointed at me and
his mother stormed over. "Are you the girl that punched my Nigel in
the eye," she growled.
"Yes," I said expecting her to land one on me. Instead she grabbed
Nigel by the ear and said, "You apologise to this girl you little
brat."
"Sorry Sally," he said in a tiny voice.
His Mum turned to me again and said that if Nigel ever did that again
she would make him come to school in a skirt and bra and I could do
the same to him."
The yells of approval from the girl's side could have lifted the roof
and even the staff was laughing.
Suddenly Sally became serious.
"When I told them at the boxing club they were not pleased with me at
all. They told me that they did not teach me boxing so that I could
hit other people outside the ring. They made me promise to apologise
to Nigel and when I did he surprised me.
"It's me who should apologise," he said, "I was bullying you and not
treating you with respect; I'm sorry Sally and I won't do it again."
After that we became quite good friends. So here is my message; girls
stand up for yourselves and don't be pushed around, but only ever use
force in self-defense. Also girls, don't bully anyone else; girls
often do it by sneering and making horrible remarks about another
person, usually someone weaker than you, someone not popular or able
to defend themselves.
Boys, for you it's the same message; if you wouldn't do something to
someone stronger than you don't do it to someone weaker. I am going to
hand over to Sam now, but I expect you will hear more from me later.
Thank you all for listening."
Sally sat down to tremendous applause which went on for a long time.
Sam got to his feet and took the microphone.
"Sally has touched on one of the things we want to talk to you about
and we will come back to that later. I want to discuss two things with
you right now. One is courage and the other is following your dreams.
Can any of you tell me what it means to be courageous?"
Someone replied that it was doing something dangerous and not being
scared.
"Well that would certainly be courageous," answered Sam. "But it is
really courageous when you are scared, very scared, but you do it
anyway. Can any of you guess what event frightened me the most in my
life?"
A couple of people suggested getting in the ring with the Oraz Abdulin
for the Olympic final.
Sam shook his head and said, "No I was fairly confident going into the
final and nothing else in boxing has really scared me. The thing that
terrified me was telling my team mates that I was planning to become a
fashion model, modeling women's dresses for Ellie Dean. After all
there are not too many men who do that sort of thing publicly and even
fewer boxers who do it. Anyway I was literally shaking and found it
hard to speak when I told them. I can't tell you the relief I felt
when they gave me their support. I remember walking back to the
changing room when Sally here called to me and said she wanted to say
something. The fear immediately returned, because I thought that she
was going to call me all sorts of names and say that she would never
talk to me again. Sally looked me in the eye and said, "Sam can you
get me an Ellie Dean dress?"
Again a volley of laughter rang out around the room.
"So many people think of courage as doing something like running into
a burning building to rescue someone. That is certainly brave, but
there are other ways of being brave, like doing something that makes
the person appear different, or goes against convention, perhaps
speaking out when you see an injustice. I suppose that me modeling
dresses fits in the category of doing something unconventional and
risking disapproval and even ridicule."
Sam paused to take a sip of water from the glass that Mrs. Gray had
provided before going on.
"Now I'm going to discuss a topic that Sally raised earlier; the issue
of bullying. It is a very common and difficult problem and for those
on the receiving end it can be a terrible experience. What makes
people bully others? That is a very complex question and I don't have
all the answers, but here are some of my thoughts.
First it may be that the perpetrator wants to fit in with the
majority; seen as one of the gang. Second it may be that they
themselves are insecure and angry and need a target for their
inadequacies. It may be that they themselves were bullied or they saw
that behavior in the home. Whatever the reason it makes life hell for
those, who for whatever reason are different; different skin colour,
religion, sexual orientation and many other completely spurious
reasons.
It is not easy to prevent bullying, but there are a couple of methods
that are often helpful in stopping it. The first is when the person
being bullied stands up to their tormentors. If they do this with
enough determination the bully will usually seek an easier target.
However the person being bullied is often incapable of doing this and
so the second method becomes important and this is action by the
group. If others step in to support the underdog and make it clear
that they will not tolerate this behavior the problem can stop. Please
remember this because I will return to it later."
At this point Sam drew a letter out of his pocket and held it up.
"I received this letter last month and it came from a very unlikely
source and because of that and its contents I am going to read it to
you. It came from Oraz Abdulin who I fought in the Olympic final. He
does speak English, but he had this letter translated for him by an
English speaking friend.
Dear Sam Edwards Olympic Champion
When I last saw you after the medal ceremony I hated you. You had
destroyed my dream and made me a laughing stock in my country. Beaten
by a man who wears women's dresses for a living; how would I ever live
it down?
I brooded on the unfairness of fate for a long time until one day, for
no reason I can explain, I began to see you in a different light. Of
all the people I fought you were the only one who was not scared of
me; I think many of my opponents were beaten before they stepped in
the ring, but not you. I then thought about what it must have taken
for you to openly model women's clothes when you also lived in the
unforgiving world of boxing. I cannot understand why you do it, but I
cannot hate you; you have more courage than me and you are a worthy
champion.
Yours Oraz Abdulin
For a moment there was silence in the hall and then a one person began
to clap and soon the whole hall had joined in with great intensity
till the whole room rang with the sound.
"What we would like to do next is give you a demonstration of just one
aspect of how we train and what great exercise it is for the body and
the brain," said Sam and he turned to Mrs. Gray who once again took
the microphone.
"We will divide you into two groups," she said, "First the girls will
go to the gym with our two guests and the boys will remain here for
our annual discussion of what lies ahead for the coming term."
The girls began to file out and the two PE teachers, Mr. Scott and Ms.
Barber introduced themselves to Sam and Sally and prepared to escort
them to the gym. Ms. Barber suddenly noticed Jamie and Jeanie and went
across to them.
"Jamie you need to be with the rest of the girls, but I understand
that this is all a little stressful, so you and your mum can sit in my
office; it has a one way mirror so you will be able to watch and hear,
but no one will see you; is that okay?"
Jamie looked relieved and nodded her head. She and Jeanie waited a few
minutes for all the girls to get settled in the gym before she and her
mum followed.
When Sam and Sally arrived they found the girls sitting and standing
around the whole gym only leaving a clear area in the middle. They
took up position here together with the two teachers. Sam and Sally
had rehearsed what they wanted to say and they grinned at each other
in anticipation.
"So Sally," began Sam, "tell me what is one of the best things about
being a girl?"
"Boys," said Sally promptly, which provoked a burst of giggling from
the girls.
"And one of the worst things?" asked Sam.
"Boys," replied Sally immediately and this time there was no giggling,
just outright laughter.
"You see," said Sally, "girls do so many things to please boys or to
attract them and of course it goes the other way too, but we'll talk
to the boys later. One of the things Sam and I want to talk to you
about is something that Ms. Barber has probably told you already and
that is it is very, very important that you exercise and you include
hard strengthening exercises in your life. Now this is where many
girls rebel and their reasoning goes something like this. "If I do
strengthening exercises I'll get huge muscles and I'll look like a boy
and no boy will want to go out with me."
"Rubbish," she shouted and the audience gave a little gasp of
surprise.
"Let's show them Sam," said Sally as she and Sam stripped off their
tracksuit tops and their T-shirts. Underneath they were both wearing
the team boxing vests.
"Look at us," cried Sally. "We both do the same training, but my body
doesn't look anything like Sam's. Girls and women have a higher
percentage of normal body fat and we are supposed to. That is one of
the reasons that Sam has much more definition in his arms. You will
also notice that Sam does not have breasts and that is because his
body and Mr. Scott's produces testosterone and the rest of us produce
oestrogen. Oestrogen also plays a role in giving women more body fat;
it's the way we are made and thank goodness for that.
So my muscles won't be as developed as Sam's, but that doesn't mean I
will be weak."
Sally now turned to Ms. Barber and said, "What sort of strength
exercises do you give the girls?"
Ms. Barber demonstrated some basic squats, followed by some press ups
and chin ups.
"Not many girls can do a chin up so we modify them by having a partner
assist with a lift," she said.
Sally went to a wall and did a handstand so that her feet were
touching the wall. She then did 10 press ups from this position
without apparent difficulty. She then did 15 chin ups with a wide
shoulder grip and some single leg squats.
"Now you may be thinking that I'm just showing off, or you may be
thinking that you could not possibly do those exercises; well you
could and you would get enormous benefit from doing so.
Okay Sam, are you ready for the next phase?"
Sam nodded and reached into the bag he had brought and tossed Sally a
pair of boxing gloves, while he put on a pair of boxing pads. Sally
moved into position and when Sam indicated that he was ready she
launched into a series of combination punches, that despite the fact
that Sam was constantly moving, invariably found their mark.
"It's hard work," said Sally when she had finished. "But it's a
wonderfully satisfying way of getting a really good work out, for your
body and getting rid of your frustrations. Just remember, it's really
cool for a girl to be strong and if some boy doesn't like it then he
is not worth knowing; do it for yourself."
There were a few questions from the girls and then Ms. Barber and Mr.
Scott sent them back to the assembly hall and a few minutes later the
boys began to file in. Jamie and Jeanie remained in the office. The
boys did not need as much encouragement to exercise regularly, but
they did need advice about not doing too much. Again Sam put on the
boxing pads and Sally went through an intensive round of boxing.
"Now would one of you boys like to take the pads and have a round with
Sally?" Sam said.
Eventually one of the older boys came forward with a slight smirk on
his face. Sam showed him how to hold the pads and how to move around
the ring. Sally started with a fairly slow tempo and light punches,
but just when the boy was beginning to look complacent she let loose a
volley of punches in rapid succession. Some of them were hard and the
smack of the glove hitting the pads echoed around the gym. When it was
over the boy looked grateful to remove the pads.
"Just a suggestion," grinned Sam. "If you say someone hits like a girl
you should mean it as a compliment."
After a lot of persuasion from the boys Sam put the gloves on and
Sally the pads. Again he started fairly easily but at a nod from Sally
he fired in a lightening series of at least 15 punches, his hands
almost a blur. This brought gasps from the audience followed by
sustained applause.
They spent about 15 minutes answering questions and then it was back
to the assembly hall. Jamie and Jeanie gave them a few minutes to get
settled and then followed them and took their places in the wings of
the stage.
Once more Sam and Sally stood in front of the whole school.
"We have covered different themes today and Sally and I want to leave
you with a few thoughts that will help to bring them all together,"
said Sam.
"One of the great things about being young, in the way that you all
are, is that it is a time when you have dreams, desires and ambitions.
One of the tragedies of people as they age is that they stop having
these dreams. I am saying to you now, have your dreams and make them
wonderful and once you are sure that this is what you want, then
follow them with your whole being. Your dream may lie in
unconventional directions and it may require courage to pursue them,
but never deny your dreams because you are scared of what others may
say or think; they are your dreams no one else's. You may not achieve
your goal, but you will certainly gain from making the attempt.
Sally and I had the dream of representing our country at the Olympics
and we are lucky to have achieved that. But even if we hadn't we would
still have felt better from having tried. Some dreams like ours are
big, but others can be small; all though are important because they
help define who we are"
Sam looked at his audience for a moment without speaking, letting an
air of expectation build.
"I am now going to talk to you about someone who is striving to follow
her dream. This person is a close friend of both Sally and I and
someone who is known to many of you."
Sitting in the wings Jamie felt as though a great hand was gripping
her stomach and she squeezed Jeanie's hand hard. She felt her heart
beat faster and felt herself shake. Jeanie put a comforting arm around
her shoulder.
"Our friends dream was very simple," went on Sam. "She just wanted to
be an ordinary girl. The problem has been that she was born with a
brain that did not fit with her body. She has the brain
characteristics of a girl, but the body of a boy. That is hard to
imagine for most of us, but try this thought experiment. Imagine that
you were suddenly changed into the body of the opposite sex than you
are now, if all you boys suddenly had the body of a girl and all you
girls found yourselves in a boy's body. However in this thought
experiment, your brain did not change; it remained the brain and
feelings of a boy in a girl's body and vice versa. Try to imagine how
that would feel. That is the feeling that our friend experiences every
day and has tried so bravely to overcome."
At this point Sally went into the wings and gently pulled Jamie out of
her chair and guided her onto the stage. Jamie was unresisting, almost
passive; her legs moving automatically. She stared unseeing out at the
audience. Sam and Sally stood either side of her with their arms
holding her tightly.
"This is Jamie Pritchard and she is the bravest person I know," said
Sam in a loud voice. "She has the complete support of Sally and me,
but now she needs the support of all of you, are you going to give
it?"
There was silence for several seconds and then boys and girls were on
their feet clapping and cheering for a long time. Jamie stood there in
a daze clinging to Sam and Sally. When the applause finally died down
Sam took the microphone again.
"Thank you for listening to us and good luck in the future in
following your dreams and helping others achieve theirs."
He and Sally then left the stage bringing Jamie with them. They
reached Jeanie, who enveloped her daughter in a close embrace and then
the tears began to flow.
Mrs. Gray thanked Sam and Sally for their inspiring presentation and
asked the students to all go to their classes for a brief meeting with
their form teacher before being dismissed for the day.
Mrs. Gray then stayed with Sam, Sally, Jeanie and Jamie until Jamie
had recovered.
"Jamie," she said, "I want to see you in my office before school
starts tomorrow. Do not go to your class, but come straight to the
office."
Jamie nodded that she understood. "Mrs. Gray I don't think I can stay
for lunch; I'm sorry but I just want to go home."
"Of course we understand Jamie," said Mrs. Gray in a kind voice. "It
has been a very eventful day and you need time alone with your Mum."
Sam and Sally gave Jamie another hug and then followed Mrs. Gray to
the staff room and a special lunch and Jamie and Jeanie slowly made
their way home.
The Next Day
After they got home Jeanie spent the rest of the day with Jamie, just
being with her and giving her unconditional love and support. By
evening Jamie was starting to feel more herself and the two had their
dinner in front of the TV watching "Love Actually,," which seemed to
fit the mood.
The next morning Jamie stepped into her skirt wondering what the day
would bring.
"Whatever happens," she thought. "At least I know that I'm a
schoolgirl and I am living my dream."
She arrived at school at the usual time and was surprised that there
were no other students about; they all seemed to be in their
classrooms. She went to Mrs. Gray's office and was quickly shown in.
"How are you feeling Jamie, yesterday must have been quite a shock for
you?" said Mrs. Gray.
"I'm okay thanks Mrs. Gray."
"Good! I just wanted to check that all was well. Now off you go to
your classroom where I think you have an English lesson."
Jamie walked through the deserted corridors to her home room. She
paused at the door, took a deep breath and went in. As soon as she
entered she was astonished that all the students immediately sprang to
their feet and called out in unison.
"Welcome back Jamie!"
They all sat down accept for a boy and girl who came forward.
"Jamie we all want to say how sorry we are for the way you have been
treated this year. Yesterday listening to Sam and Sally made us
realise how horrible we have been to you," said the girl whose name
was Patti.
"Patti is right," said Neal one of the more popular boys in the class.
"After that talk yesterday I realised how brave you are and how much
we have let you down. I hope you will be able to forgive us."
Jamie felt the tears begin to well up in her eyes and she frantically
dabbed at them with a tissue.
Patti said, "Jamie we all chipped in and bought you something as a
token of our regret and we hope that you feel able to accept it."
She handed Jamie a small box and when Jamie opened it she found a
delicate necklace with a heart pendant. Jamie was unable to stop
crying but this time it was with joy.
"Thank you all," she sniffed, "This is a beautiful necklace and I am
going to love wearing it."
Patti took the necklace and attached it around Jamie's neck. As Jamie
walked to her desk the class clapped.
When the bell went for the mid-morning break the class filed out of
the room, but two of the girls held back and started talking to Jamie.
After a few minutes they asked her to walk with them during the break.
As they were passing the girls toilets Jamie's two companions suddenly
grabbed her arms and forced her into the toilets. A wave of horror
rushed through Jamie that in an instant destroyed all the good
feelings she had been experiencing. What awful thing was going to
happen to her now? As they got inside Jamie saw that the room was
packed with girls from her class and several others. Patti was near
the front and she stepped forward in front of Jamie.
"Jamie," she said, "we want you to stop using the women's staff
toilet. You are a girl and you belong in here with all us other
girls."
Then the whole room erupted into wild cheers. At last after drying her
tears and blowing her nose Jamie was able to speak.
"Thank you all," she said. "All my life I just wanted to be accepted
as a girl and now you have given me the greatest gift possible."
Jamie found it hard to concentrate for the rest of the day and when
school was finally over she was delighted when some of her classmates
asked her to walk home with them. She burst into the house calling for
her mother and for a moment Jeanie feared the worst. However when she
saw the radiant expression on her daughters face she knew that all was
well.
Two Weddings
The next day at school was everything Jamie had hoped for. She was
invited to join a group a girls for lunch and even many of the boys
were friendly towards her. As she was leaving a boy who was two
classes ahead of her approached her.
"Are you Jamie Pritchard?" he said.
"Yes," said Jamie apprehensively.
"I just want to say that you have a lot of guts and I think you look
great."
Jamie blushed and thanked him and as she walked away felt a warm glow
inside. When she arrived home she called out to Jeanie as she entered.
Jeanie came out into the hall with a big smile on her face.
"We have a visitor," she said.
"Who?" asked Jamie.
"Me," said Sam emerging from the kitchen.
"Sam," shrieked Jamie as she ran towards him and flung her arms around
his neck. "Sam you are the most wonderful man in the world. You will
not believe how much better things are at school and it's all thanks
to you and Sally," and she related the incident in the girls toilet
and the gift from her classmates.
Sam was delighted to hear Jamie's news and after he had managed to
extricate her from his neck he asked them to come through to the
kitchen because he was had something important to say. When they were
seated around the kitchen table Sam produced an envelope from his
pocket and placed it on the table in front of Jeanie. It was addressed
to Ms. and Miss Pritchard.
"What's this?" asked Jeanie.
Sam grinned and said, "There's one way to find out."
Jeanie slit open the envelope with a paper knife and gave a little
gasp as she read it. She then handed it to Jamie who gave a loud
shriek when she read it.
"Mr. and Mrs. John Grey request the company of Ms. Jeanie Pritchard
and Miss Jamie Pritchard at the wedding of their daughter Josie Ann
Grey to Sam Edwards."
"I do hope that you can come," said Sam anxiously.
"Oh Sam we'd love to; thank you so much for inviting us, this is
amazing," cried Jeanie.
Jamie didn't speak; she just renewed her attack on Sam's neck.
Sam cleared his throat.
"There's something else," he said.
Jeanie and Jamie looked at him inquiringly.
"You see, my wonderful Josie wants me to experience the absolute
splendor of being a bride. She will of course be the bride for the
wedding to which you have just received an invitation and I will be
the traditionally dressed groom. However,," he said and paused
dramatically, "We will have a second wedding, a very small private one
a week later at the same venue and for that I shall be the bride. Now
I have a huge favour to ask of you Jamie."
Jamie could not imagine what this could be.
"Sam I would do anything for you, I owe you so much."
"Jamie would you be one of my bridesmaids?"
Jamie gaped at Sam, not believing what she heard.
"If you'd rather not I would completely understand," said Sam,
interpreting Jamie's silence as hesitation.
Suddenly Jamie got up quickly from her chair and ran out of the room.
They heard her going up the stairs and the opening and loud closing of
her bedroom door.
"Did I say the wrong thing?" asked Sam anxiously.
"No Sam," said Jeanie, "I think she is just overcome. So much has
happened in the last 2 days to turn her world upside down; in a good
way of course. Let's give her a few minutes and then I'll go up to
her."
When Jeanie went upstairs and knocked quietly on Jamie's door she
heard a muffled sob in response. She entered and found Jamie curled up
on the bed with her face buried in her pillow. Jeanie just sat on the
bed and gently stroked her daughter's neck and back. Jamie immediately
rose and crawled across and put her head in her mum's lap and clung to
her. 10 minutes later Jeanie came down stairs followed by a red eyed
Jamie to find a worried looking Sam pacing in the kitchen. Jamie went
up to him and buried her head in his chest.
"I'm sorry Sam, I can't understand why I reacted that way, but I was
just overwhelmed that you would ask me to be your bridesmaid. I am so
honoured I am afraid I might burst. If you really want me I would
dearly love to do it," said Jamie in a quavering voice.
Sam held her against his chest and said, "I really want you Jamie."
Suddenly it was a three way hug as Jeanie joined them.
"I think we all need a strong cup of tea," said Jeanie as she put the
kettle on.
"Jamie would you be able to go into Ellie's offices tomorrow after
school?" asked Sam. "She will be making your bridesmaids dress and she
will need a few measurements?"
This time Jamie actually laughed.
"Oh Sam," she said, "this story just keeps getting more and more
surreal. 10 weeks ago I was a miserable confused transgender kid,
whose favourite possession was a copy of Vogue with Sam Edwards on the
cover in an Ellie Dean dress. Now Sam Edwards has asked me to be his
bridesmaid and my dress will be made by Ellie Dean. Mum am I dreaming;
please tell me I'm not?"
"You are not dreaming darling," said Jeanie, "But I feel the same way.
I chanced to be working the flight that brought the GB Olympic team
home and all I was hoping for was an autographed copy of your Vogue,
because I thought it might give you a boost. Instead this amazing man
has totally transformed our lives, especially yours."
Sam looked embarrassed and said, "It is such a pleasure to be friends
with both of you."
Before Sam left he arranged to meet again with Jamie and Jeanie the
next day so more work could be done on both of their dresses.
"It's just beautiful," breathed Jamie as she gazed at her reflection
in the long mirrors of the viewing room.
Her dress was steel blue satin and cascaded to her ankles in soft
folds. The neck was scooped with spaghetti straps and the back ended
just below her shoulder blades. As Jamie turned the dress moved in a
smooth sensuous flow.
"This dress is perfect for a young girl like you Jamie, you really
bring it to life," said Ellie as she stepped back to admire her work.
"Okay I think that will do very well," said Ellie. "Now Jamie before
you put your school uniform back on, I want you and you're Mum to go
with Jenny into our wardrobe section and choose dresses for Sam and
Josie's wedding. Jeanie you will need to choose two because you won't
want to wear the same on twice in a row. I need to spend some time
with Miss Sammi here to get her dress perfect for her bridal event."
An hour later they met up again, with Jamie and Jeanie carrying two
dresses each. By now Jamie was back in her school uniform.
"Sorry Jamie, go and find another dress, I'm taking you all out to
dinner and I don't think your school uniform will suit the ambiance of
the restaurant."
Jamie emerged 10 minutes later wearing a very cute lemon coloured
skater dress with a long prominent zip up the back.
"Perfect my dear, as always," was Ellie's comment.
The meal was slightly less elaborate than the previous ones which
Jeanie and Jamie had been invited to attend with Ellie, but it was
memorable all the same. Most of the talk was about the upcoming
weddings and Josie did her best to ferret information about Sam's
dress, but Ellie remained tight lipped.
When they were finished Ellie insisted as usual in having Jeanie and
Jamie driven home.
"You cannot possibly go on the Underground carrying all those
dresses," she said.
On the Friday before their wedding Sam did not see much of Josie. He
had arranged to spend the night with his mother and during the day
Josie was busy with hair appointments, pedicures and manicures and
everything else a bride needs to attend to for her big day.
"You'll get your turn next week Sammi dear," she said giving her soon
to be husband a goodbye kiss.
By contrast Sam's preparations were fairly easy. He had his long hair
neatly groomed and was planning for it to hang loose over his
shoulders. That night he was back in his old bedroom in his Mum's
house, living with all the memories it contained. After a refreshing
sleep Sam began to get ready for the big day. He smiled as he looked
at himself in the bathroom mirror. His electrolysis was now complete
so he no longer had to shave. Without makeup his look was more
androgynous, something he was very comfortable with. He went
downstairs where his mother putting breakfast on the table.
"Did you sleep well Sam?" she asked.
"Very well; it almost felt as though I had never left," he said
hugging his mother.
"Eat your breakfast Sam; you'll need to keep your strength up. I'll go
up and try to rouse that brother of yours."
"Good luck with that," laughed Sam as he began to eat.
10 minutes later a bleary eyed Kyle emerged and slumped down at the
table.
"I hope you look better than this in a few hours Kyle; I don't want my
best man messing up his role."
"Don't worry Sam, I won't let you down."
After breakfast all three of them began to get dressed. Sam and Kyle
were both wearing standard tuxes with white shirts and bow ties. Ellie
had insisted on giving dresses to Sophie, Sam's sister and Susan his
Mum, and when Susan emerged from her bedroom she looked wonderful. Her
health was much better since she had been able to quit her old job and
she looked and felt more rested. As Sam looked at her standing there
in her peach coloured mid-calf dress he felt a tremendous surge of
love and pride.
"Mum you look fantastic; next to Josie you will be the most glamorous
woman there."
Susan laughed and said, "I sincerely hope not you silly boy, but
anyway come her and give your old Mum a hug."
Sam needed no second invitation and both felt lumps in their throats
when they parted. An hour later their car arrived and they set off for
Mia and Andi's house. When they arrived they were greeted by Mia and
Andi who with typical efficiency had everything under control. Slowly
the guests began to arrive and take up their places in the rows of
seats arranged on the lawn. The guests were an unusual bunch in some
ways. All of Sam's Olympic boxing team mates were there as well as
many from Sam's old club. By contrast there were also a sizeable
number of gorgeous fashion models, many of whom were unattached to the
considerable satisfaction of the male boxers. One Josie's side there
were people from her fashion school, colleagues at Ellie Dean, school
and family friends and of course Jeanie and Jamie. Eventually when
everyone was seated the marriage registrar stood and indicated that
Sam and Kyle come forward to the front to wait for Josie's entry.
Sam tensed when he heard the strains of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring
start to play over the sound system. He became aware of oohs and aahs
from the guests and turned to see his beloved Josie coming towards
him, holding onto the arm of her father, with two bridesmaids trailing
behind. Sam's heart missed a beat as he saw the beautiful dress Josie
had designed. It was sleeveless with a sheer, low cut bodice with
delicate flower embroidery running down to the waist. Below was a
gathered chiffon skirt that seemed to float as she moved. Sam was
conscious of Josie reaching him and of them holding hands as they
stared at each other but the rest of the service was a blur. It was
only when the registrar said, "I now pronounce you husband and wife,"
that he realised that he was now officially married to the love of his
life.
After the photographs they all moved inside for the wedding banquet
which Andi had organised with a high class catering service. The
speeches followed the dinner and after the usual introductions from
the father of the bride and the best man Sam rose. He began by
thanking all the guests, the caterers, Mia and Andi and his mother and
father-in-law for producing Josie. Then he continued with the theme of
his speech.
"This is the greatest day of my life; my win in the Olympics is
nothing to the thrill I feel now to be married to you Josie," he
began. "To say that my life has been unconventional would be somewhat
of an understatement, but it is my life and I wouldn't change any of
it, especially today. I have been fortunate beyond measure to have
been loved and influenced by exceptional women. My mother, Susan
Edwards,"he said pointing to a blushing Susan, "Has given my sister
Sophie, my brother Kyle and me the best, most stable and loving
childhood possible at great cost to herself. If that wasn't enough I
had the amazingly good fortune to meet Josie at school and after
meeting her I knew that I would never love someone as much. Finally,
Ellie Dean has been the most generous, supportive friend and is also
my amazing boss. To you three women I give my heartfelt thanks and
love. I would like to propose a toast to the double X chromosome, the
source of most of the good and joy in the world."
This was greeted with loud applause especially by those with double
XX's.
Eventually it was time for Sam and Josie to lead off the dancing and
they chose one of their favourites, Elton John's Your Song. They were
soon followed by the rest of the guests as many of Sam's team mates
made a rush to partner the unattached fashion models. Jamie was
sitting with Jeanie basking in the wonder of the occasion when
suddenly Josie appeared beside them. After Jamie and Jeanie had
exclaimed about Josie's dress and the wonderful wedding Josie took
Jamie by the hand.
"Jamie dear, there is someone I want you to meet," she said leading
her friend to another table where a young girl, who was one of Josie's
bridesmaids, was talking to two of her relatives. She was taller than
Josie and very beautiful with long blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes.
Josie managed to prise her away.
"Mandy I want you to meet my friend Jamie; Jamie this is my sister
Mandy. I think that you two will have a lot to talk about, so why
don't you come over here in the garden where you won't be disturbed."
She led them to where a couple of chairs overlooked a small ornamental
pond, before gliding off to talk to some of the other guests. Mandy
looked at Jamie and a big smile spread across her face.
"Jamie, I'm so glad to meet you. Josie has told me so much about you;
I think you are absolutely wonderful the way you have overcome all
those obstacles to become the girl you were always meant to be."
"Thank you so much Mandy, it means so much to hear you say that.
Honestly the last few weeks of my life have been a fantastic dream."
"Jamie, I think the dream is just starting."
For the next hour they talked about, bridesmaids, dresses, their likes
and dislikes and much more.
"Hey Jamie, would you like to dance?" said Mandy suddenly.
"I'd love to," said Jamie getting up.
They managed to avoid the attentions of several of the young men and
had a lovely time dancing together. When they finally left the dance
floor together Mandy took Jamie's hand and bent her head close to
Jamie's ear.
"Jamie, I'm so glad you are not a boy," she whispered.
"Oh Mandy, so am I, so am I," sighed Jamie.
The evening slowly wound down and eventually it was time for Sam and
Josie to leave. Ellie had booked them a room at The Connaught in
Mayfair and the next day they were going to fly to Barcelona for 3
nights, just a short prelude to their proper honeymoon after the
second wedding the next week. When they arrived a butler showed them
personally to the Honeymoon Suite where a bottle of Champaign was
waiting in an ice bucket.
"Help me off with my dress Sam," whispered Josie, "take me to bed and
make love to me."
It didn't take Sam long to remove Josie's dress or to take her to bed,
but the third of her requests took all night to complete.
Josie and Sam spent 3 memorable days in Barcelona, enjoying the sights
and the best restaurants. Sometimes Josie was accompanied by Sam and
at other times by Sammi. They both loved Sam's ability to transition
from one identity to the other in a seamless fashion. The
disappointment of having to return to London was offset by the
knowledge that they had another longer honeymoon coming in less than a
week.
Just before they boarded their return flight Sam received a message
from Ellie informing him that she needed him the next day for a photo
shoot for the promotion of a leading company's new line of handbags.
"She has been so generous that I can't begrudge her this, even though
it is so close to our second wedding," he told Josie, who was forced
to agree.
The photo shoot took place the next day on the Embankment and featured
Sam striding purposefully along the pavement wearing a full skirt and
the handbag over his shoulder. The photographer managed to capture the
swing of both skirt and bag as Sam moved, conveying the impression of
complete freedom. Ellie was delighted when she saw the prints.
"Sammi you have done it again; you are the best."
She suddenly became serious and said, "Sammi you do realise that you
could probably make half as much again modeling clothes for the really
big names, don't you?"
"Yes Ellie, but I don't ever want to leave Ellie Dean; you have given
me something that money cannot buy."
Ellie gave him a hug and said, "Darling Sam/Sammi you are one in a
million."
She then became business like and said, "Sammi I want to have a
rehearsal with your 3 bridesmaids before Saturday; does Thursday late
afternoon work for you?"
"It works for me, but I only have 2 bridesmaids, my sister Sophie and
Jamie."
Ellie grinned and said, "Actually Sammi I added another one."
"Why and who?"
"The why is because with your dress 3 will work better than 2 and as
far as the who goes, you will have to wait till tomorrow to find out"
Sam had to accept this as Ellie refused to say any more.
"Sammi what are you doing on Friday evening?" asked Ellie.
"Nothing that I am aware of," answered Sam.
"In that case I am going to organise a hen party for Friday night, to
which your wife is of course not invited."
"Who will come?" asked Sam.
"Your bridesmaids, Kat and Leah and me," Ellie answered promptly. "We
will stay the night in a hotel so in the morning we will have lots of
time to get you ready."
"Is this really necessary?"
"Sammi, how many times do you anticipate getting married as a bride?"
"Okay Ellie I take your point and I really am grateful; I just didn't
want to be a bother."
"You won't be a bother; you will be a sensational bride and I can't
wait to see you. One other thing I'd like to ask you Sammi and that is
whether you feel comfortable in us using the photos of you in your
wedding dress for promotional purposes"
"I have no issues at all Ellie provided you agree not to disclose that
this was part of a private wedding ceremony. I am sure you can make it
look like a normal fashion shoot."
"Of course I agree to maintain your privacy Sammi, Josie will not
appear in any of the photos or film, but I would like to use your
bridesmaids with you in the promotion. Of course I will pay them the
standard modeling fee and in the case of Jamie and where appropriate
run it by their parents first," replied Ellie.
Sam was quite agreeable to this suggestion and left the office soon
after.
Josie hugged Sam as soon as he came in their front door.
"Are you getting brides nerves Sammi," she giggled when they
separated.
"A little," admitted Sam. "I am terrified that you might leave me at
the altar, a desolate and abandoned bride."
"Poor darling, you'll just have to wait and see won't you?"
The next afternoon Sam was the first one at the office for the
rehearsal and was soon joined by his sister Sophie. A few minutes
later Jamie arrived with Jeanie.
"Sammi you come with me and I'll get you into your dress and I suggest
that Jeanie can help Jamie and Sophie. This way we won't waste any
time when our third bridesmaid arrives," said Ellie taking charge.
Before Ellie put Sam into his dress she instructed him to keep his
eyes closed, as she had done throughout the dress's design, so he had
little idea of what it might look like. She finished the last button,
rearranged the mirrors in the room to give an all-round view and then
permitted him to look. Sam was speechless. At last he was able to say
one word, "Wow."
The dress had a simple elegance; white satin in an A-line silhouette,
with off the shoulder sleeves and a softly draped crossover bodice.
From the waist down the dress fell to the ground with a gentle ripple
from the left hip across to mid-way down the sleek skirt. When Sam
looked at the back he saw the satin pool into a perfect circle.
"Ellie I love it," gasped Sam, "I wish I didn't have to take it off."
"Well after Saturday you won't have to," laughed Ellie. "By the way
you will need a petticoat but we can leave that till Saturday."
Just then they heard a squeal from the other room. Ellie giggled and
said, "Looks like your third bridesmaid has arrived."
Sam quickly stuck his head out of the door just in time to see Jamie
embracing Mandy.
"Those two were so cute at the wedding that I just had to get them
together again," said Ellie.
"I'm very glad you did, Jamie is just starting to blossom and having a
close friend will help a lot," replied Sam.
Ellie smiled and said, "I think they may become more than just close
friends."
Ellie sent Sam into one of the dressing rooms while she went and
fetched the three bridesmaids. They looked beautiful in their steel
blue satin dresses and the looks on the faces of Jamie and Mandy were
a touching combination of wonder and elation.
"Okay Sammi you can enter now," called Ellie and Sam swept
dramatically into the room accompanied by gasps and shrieks of
admiration from his bridesmaids.
"Sammi you look absolutely gorgeous," cried Sophie, "You are wasted as
a boy."
"Try telling that to Josie," said Sam with a grin.
Ellie arranged them in a simple formation that they would use for the
ceremony. Sophie came behind holding Sam's train and Mandy and Jamie
would be either side of him as he made his way to the altar. After a
few practices Ellie was satisfied and after they had changed she
insisted on taking them out for a casual dinner.
When Josie finished work the next day she gave Sam a long kiss.
"Enjoy your night out with the girl's darling, but not too much."
"What will you do tonight?" asked Sam.
"Stay at home and weep in forlorn loneliness I expect."
"Well I'm glad that you will be doing something useful," said Sam as
he kissed her again. "After tomorrow I'll be your wife and have to
obey you."
"Oh Sammi darling you already do."
Ellie had booked a private room in the dining room of their hotel and
they started the evening with cocktails; in the case of Mandy and
Jamie these were nonalcoholic. The evening was a great success. Kat
was a very good story teller and Leah had a really good singing voice,
plus an encyclopedic knowledge of the great songs from the sixties and
seventies. More singing inevitably led to more drinking and by the
time the party was over all but the two teenagers were as high as
kites. Leah and Kat took a taxi home and Ellie then produced two room
keys.
"Both rooms have two king sized beds," she said. "So Sammi you can
share with your sister and I'll take the other bed; Mandy and Jamie
will you be okay in the other room?"
Mandy grinned and said, "I expect we can manage."
They had all brought small overnight bags containing the essentials
and quickly settled down in their rooms. Jamie used the bathroom first
and then changed into her nightdress while Mandy took her turn. When
Mandy emerged Jamie was already in bed. She was surprised when Mandy
walked straight past the empty bed and climbed in next to her.
"Jamie you don't mind if I sleep with you do you; you see I'm afraid
of the dark," she said and giggled.
Before Jamie was quite aware of what was happening Mandy slid across
the bed, wrapped her arms around Jamie's neck and kissed her hard on
the lips. Jamie was surprised but delighted and returned the favour.
"Jamie, do you like boys?" asked Mandy as they lay there in the dark.
"No I'm only attracted to girls," whispered Jamie.
"Thank goodness for that," sighed Mandy, "Because I really like girls
like you and I think I'm beginning to fall in love with you Jamie
Pritchard."
Jamie did not answer; she was too busy kissing Mandy.
The next morning Ellie ordered room service and they all sat around in
their nightdresses talking excitedly. As soon as they were done Ellie
clapped her hands.
"Right girls, time to get going; we have hair appointments in less
than an hour."
They were all downstairs in 20 minutes and crowded into the limo that
Ellie had ordered and took off to the beauty salon where they were all
pampered and primped for two hours. Sam found the application of
makeup so much easier without the necessity to cover for facial hair
and he lay back and relaxed, determined to enjoy the sensation to the
maximum. When his stylists were finished Sam and Ellie were delighted
with the result. Sam's long straight black hair hung down past his
shoulder blades and the smoky eye shadow gave him a most dramatic
look.
Ellie settled the bill for Sam and his bridesmaids and they left the
salon to find the same limo waiting to take them to Andi and Mia's
house. When they arrived they were greeted by Mia who guided them into
the house.
"Josie is here with most of the guests and I have sent them outside so
they won't catch sight of you before you make your entry Sammi," said
Mia.
They carried their dresses upstairs to the main bedroom, which was
going to serve as a dressing room, where Ellie took charge.
"I will help Jamie and Mandy dress and then Mandy can help Sophie and
Jamie and I will prepare Sammi. Sammi you go through to the bathroom
and put your girdle and bra on please."
Jamie was so excited that she found it difficult to keep still while
Ellie fussed with her dress. Mandy watched with a look of longing in
her eyes. When both girls were ready they stood admiring each other
for a few moments before exchanging a brief kiss. Mandy then helped
Sophie with her dress and Ellie and Jamie started on Sam. White silk
stockings were carefully rolled up Sam's legs and fastened to the
garters on his girdle.
"Now step into your petticoat Sammi," instructed Ellie as she arranged
it in a neat circle on the carpet.
Sam stepped carefully in and Ellie slowly pulled the frilly rustling
garment up his legs, causing Sam to give an involuntary shiver. Once
it was around his waist Ellie tied the laces in a firm bow and stood
back to survey her model.
"You look wonderful Sammi, if I was Josie I would keep you in
petticoats all the time; perhaps I'll suggest that to her; what do you
think Jamie?" said Ellie with a grin.
"I love Sam whatever he wears," said Jamie after an embarrassed pause.
"Thank you Jamie, you really are a true fan," said Sam.
"Jamie I need you to help me get Sammi's dress over her head without
messing up her hair, so we need to take a side each."
"You said her Ms. Dean," said Jamie nervously.
"Yes, when this gorgeous creature you see before you is dressed like
this and answers to Sammi, I certainly use she and her. You don't mind
do you Sammi dear?"
"Actually Ellie I look on it as a compliment," replied Sam.
Ellie and Jamie carefully lowered the dress over Sam's head and Jamie
guided his arms through the off-shoulder sleeves, while Ellie began to
close the long row of buttons at the back. When she was finished she
fussed with the skirt of the dress, making sure that it hung properly
over his petticoat. At last she was satisfied and called the three
bridesmaids around to survey the finished article.
"There girls is perfection; this is the look I wanted; that of the
white queen wreaking havoc on the chess board as she disdainfully
sweeps all before her."
Just then there was a discrete knock on the door and Mia announced
that everyone was ready for the entry of the bride. Mia handed Sam a
bouquet of summer flowers, Jamie and Mandy took their places beside
him and Sophie took hold of his train. Ellie went first and the bridal
procession came a minute later to give Ellie time to find her seat.
They proceeded carefully down the stairs and through the house towards
the French windows. Sam was conscious of the soft rustle of his
petticoat and the gentle sway of his dress and he felt a thrill run
through his whole being and this feeling only intensified as he
stepped out onto the terrace. Sam had selected Pachelbel's Canon for
his entry music and it now began to swell from the speakers Mia had
placed in the garden. He seemed to glide down the broad steps of the
terrace and almost float across the grass towards the altar at the far
end of the garden, where he could just make out the figure of Josie
through his tears. Sam had made a lot of entries into crowded
auditoria, but he had never experienced a feeling like this and it
shook him to his core.
Finally he reached the altar and saw Josie clearly. She was wearing a
well tailored trouser suit and was standing next to a tall woman who
was dressed as an ancient priestess.
"We are here in this crucible of femininity to welcome our bride Sammi
into marriage. Sammi there are many duties expected of a wife in
respect to her partner Josie.
Sammi do you swear to love, honour and obey Josie from this time
forth?"
"I do," answered Sam promptly.
"And do you swear to follow her along a path of femininity with all
your strength?"
"I do."
"Josie do you swear to guide Sammi into a glorious feminine future?"
"I do."
"And do you swear to keep Sammi in dresses and skirts from this day
forth?"
"I do."
"Then in the power invested in me by the Actors Equity Association of
Great Britain I pronounce you woman and wife."
At this point Josie slid a diamond ring onto the 4th finger of Sam's
left hand and standing up on tip toes gave him a long kiss to the
cheers of the small audience.
Ellie had brought in 3 photographers and they took dozens of pictures
of Sam and Josie, Sam and his bridesmaids and Sam alone. At last they
were done and they were able to sit together for the wedding feast.
Sam and Josie of course sat together but the rest of the guests
arranged themselves around the large table. Jamie and Mandy were of
course together opposite Jeanie and Sally.
Sally looked at Jamie and said, "Jamie I hope that you are continuing
with your boxing training."
Mandy looked at Jamie with wide eyes.
"You do boxing?" she asked in awe.
"Well I've done a little bit of training with Sally and Sam and it's
really fun."
"I'd love to try that," said Mandy wistfully.
"We could do it together," suggested Jamie.
"Yes!" cried Mandy in a loud voice.
They then spent several minutes with Sally working out how they could
both train together, before being interrupted by Ellie tapping on a
glass to get everyone's attention.
'Ladies and ladies," she said with a smile. "Thank you all for coming
to celebrate one of the most memorable events I have had to privilege
to help organise, although the real credit must go to our hosts, Mia
and Andi. Thanks also to my friend, the actor Audrey Bannock for
officiating our ceremony. It is memorable because this is the second
time in a week that these two young people have celebrated their
marriage. Josie it does you tremendous credit that you have allowed
Sammi to experience the joy of being a bride. I am so proud to call
them my friends and so grateful that they have strengthened my company
so much by their combined efforts. Ladies please charge your glasses
and drink the health of Josie and her bride Sammi."
This was greeted with loud cheers from everyone.
"Now there will be only one more speech, because our loving couple has
to catch a plane to take them to their mystery honeymoon destination,
but this person has particularly asked to be allowed to speak today;
ladies I give you Miss Jamie Pritchard."
Jamie stood and very nervously looked around the table. Jeanie smiled
encouragingly and Mandy reached over and gave her hand a squeeze.
"Please excuse me," began Jamie, "because I am a little nervous,
although not as nervous as I was the first time I went to school as
the girl I now am."
This was greeted with some sympathetic murmurs and another squeeze
from Mandy.
"My life has been transformed in the last two months first by the love
and patience of my wonderful Mum and secondly and most dramatically by
Josie and Sammi. Honestly I had no idea that such people could exist.
I watched Sam win his gold medal and I was screaming all through the
second round as he was completely dominating his opponent. I remember
thinking how great it would be to just catch sight of him. I didn't
realise that Mum had taken my Vogue to try to get it personally signed
and when she gave it to me I was overjoyed. He had written "To Jamie
Be true to yourself and follow your dreams." Of course I only had one
dream and that was to be a girl. That message alone gave me renewed
strength and hope, but little did I know that Sam and Josie were just
starting. They took Mum and me to lunch and then a tour of Ellie Dean,
where to my amazement Ms. Dean offered me a summer job. Then Sam and
Sally came to my school and gave an incredible talk to the school
which was subtly focused on me. From that day I started being accepted
for who I am. As though that wasn't enough I now find myself as
bridesmaid to this amazing person and sitting next to a girl who likes
me for who I am."
"Loves," whispered Mandy and they both giggled before Jamie continued.
"Sam, Sammi and Josie I am not sure if you will ever really understand
what you have done for me. When I first saw you I was an unhappy,
scared transgender girl with nothing bright to look forward to. Now I
feel as though I am the happiest girl in the world and my dreams keep
on growing. With all my heart, thank you."
By this time there were no dry eyes at the table. Sally decided to
lighten the mood and told a couple of funny stories from her
experiences as a female boxer in relation to men and the tears quickly
turned to laughter. Ellie looked at her watch and stood up.
"Ladies I am sorry to end this lovely gathering, but our newlyweds
have a long journey ahead of them and their ride will soon be here.
Josie you may want to change, but Sammi you are to stay right where
you are."
5 minutes later Josie appeared again, dressed in casual pants and a
loose blouse, just as the limo appeared in the driveway.
The Second Honeymoon
"Okay my darlings, off you go and have a wonderful time," said Ellie
as she, Mandy and Jamie helped Sam towards the car."
"Where are we going and what will I wear?" asked Sam anxiously as he
maneuvered his dress into the back of the limo next to Josie.
"You'll see Sammi, just be a good girl and obey Josie and all will be
well," said Ellie with a smirk as she looked through the window at Sam
rearranging his dress.
The car pulled smoothly out of the driveway and onto the road. After a
few minutes Sam could tell that they were heading south east.
"Josie where are we going, do you know?"
"Of course I know, but I'm not going to tell you. Sammi; it is so much
fun seeing you look a little vulnerable, just as a demure bride
should."
After about an hour Sam saw a sign at the side of the road which read
Biggin Hill Airport.
'Josie are we flying anywhere?" asked Sam beginning to panic.
"What makes you think that sweetie?" asked a smirking Josie.
Just then they turned into a private entrance to the airport and Sam
really began to panic.
"Josie I don't have any clothes or a passport," he wailed.
"Sammi all you have to worry about is looking pretty, so stop being a
naughty girl and relax."
The car drove to one side of the airfield next to a Hawker executive
jet that had the words Christina Airways emblazoned on the side. The
aircraft steps were down and two women were waiting beside them. One
was dressed in the normal uniform of a pilot and the other was as a
tall, pretty stewardess dressed in a slim, navy pencil skirt and a
cream blouse, with Christina Airways printed in discrete lettering
over the breast and a double X emblem beneath. There was another car
parked nearby and as they drew up its doors opened and a couple of
women with cameras got out.
"Ellie has arranged a photo op while you are still a blushing bride,"
explained Josie.
Sam felt relieved; he wasn't going to have to fly somewhere strange
wearing a wedding dress after all. For the next forty minutes the
photographers took dozens of photos of Sam beside the plane, going up
the stairs and anywhere else they could think of. Some featured the
pilot and stewardess, but none featured Josie, who took the
opportunity to relax in the luxurious seats in the cabin.
"Last ones," called one of the photographers, "Sammi I want you at the
top of the stairway looking towards us."
They clicked away for a few minutes while the pilot and stewardess
chatted in the cockpit. At last the photographers were satisfied and
Sam prepared to descend the stairs.
"Sammi come and have a look at the cabin," called Josie, "I'd love to
fly in something like this. Try the seat it's really comfortable."
Sam sat carefully arranging his dress and had to agree that the seats
were indeed the height of comfort. When he looked up he was alarmed to
see that the cabin door was now closed and the engines were starting.
Before Sam had chance to react the stewardess came into the cabin and
smiled at them.
"Welcome to Christina Airways ladies, my name is Carrie and I'm here
to ensure that you have a pleasant flight. Let me help you with the
seat belt Madam, we don't want it to crush that gorgeous dress."
Sam was still too startled to speak, much to Josie's amusement. By now
the plane had begun to taxi and Sam realised there was no longer any
point in making a fuss. They reached the end of the run way and the
captain called through to inform them that they were taking off
immediately. The engines changed from a low growl to an angry roar,
the brakes were released and the Hawker plunged down the runway and
soared into the air. A few minutes later the stewardess reappeared
with two flutes of Champaign on a tray.
"Excuse me for saying so Madam, but you look a little nervous and I
think this will help settle your nerves."
"It's just that I don't know where we are going," said Sam
plaintively.
"Never mind, I expect Captain Vaughan does," said Carrie reassuringly.
"Where would you like to go?"
"Somewhere warm with lovely beaches," said Josie before Sam had a
chance to reply.
"I'll go and ask her," said Carrie and went through to the flight
deck.
"Captain Vaughan will see what she can do and I expect she will let us
know before we land, wherever that is," said Carrie when she came back
a few minutes later.
"I'll serve you ladies dinner in a few minutes, but first let me get
you a cocktail." And she disappeared into the galley, returning
shortly with two large cocktails on a tray.
"You do make a lovely bride if you don't mind me saying so," said
Carrie.
"Why thank you," said Sam starting to relax under the influence of the
Champaign and the cocktail.
"You certainly look different to the last time I saw you," smiled
Carrie as she looked at Sam.
"Oh I suppose you mean in the boxing final?" said Sam.
"No actually it was after that on the flight home from the Olympics."
Sam frowned in puzzlement and said, "But I thought that flight was
exclusively for the Olympic team."
"You are quite right it was, I was one of the crew."
"Isn't it unusual for a stewardess to be working on Christina Airlines
and BA?" asked Sam.
"Very unusual," said Carrie with a giggle, "But I'm not a stew with
BA, actually I was the captain on your flight."
Sam looked so confused that Carrie and Josie burst out laughing.
"I think we have teased Sammi enough," said Carrie. "Sammi I'm a lot
like you in that I live two lives. Right now I'm the wife of Captain
Vaughan, but in my other existence I'm David Wilton and I'm a pilot
with BA. Jess was a stew with BA when we met, but now when we fly
together she's in the pilot seat and I'm the one in skirts and I love
it."
"Sorry darling this was all Ellie's idea and when we heard it we
couldn't resist going along with her little joke," confessed Josie.
"Are you ready for dinner?" asked Carrie and when they nodded she got
up and went into the galley to prepare it.
The dinner was delicious as Christina Airways used the finest caterers
they could find in London. After they had finished Sam settled back in
his seat and began to snooze. After an hour he felt a light touch on
his arm.
"We'll be landing in 15 minutes," said Carrie.
"Where?" asked Sam.
"Crete," said Carrie with a grin. "Is that warm enough for you?"
15 minutes later they were on the ground and taxiing to the small
terminal. When they stopped and the engines died Carrie opened the
cabin door and warm air rushed in.
"Thank you for flying Christina Airways, we loved having you on
board," said Carrie as Josie led the way to the stairs.
Sam went down carefully holding his dress up and Carrie took care of
the train. They walked into the terminal and had to present passports
and the usual arrival procedures. Josie of course had brought Sam's
passport with her. The official however did not seem particularly
interested in the passports, but spent a lot of time talking about
boxing, much to Sam's amusement. Carrie and Jess, as aircrew, went
quickly through a separate counter reserved for crew and were last
seen disappearing through the terminal exit pushing a trolley laden
with bags and suitcases. At last the official released Sam and Josie,
but not before he had taken a couple of pictures with them.
As they walked towards the exit Josie turned to Sam.
"Well Sammi how are you enjoying our honeymoon?"
"Let me see," said Sam thoughtfully. "Here I am in my wedding dress in
Crete with no luggage, no idea of where we are going, no money and of
course I don't speak Greek. On the other hand I am with you, so I
would say everything is perfect."
"Sammi this is why II love you; let's go outside and enjoy the night
air," said Josie and took hold of the train of Sam's dress.
They walked out of the terminal and saw in front of them a long limo.
The window at the back rolled down and the grinning face of Carrie
appeared.
"Would you like a lift?" she asked.
"Where to?" responded Sam.
"I don't know; wherever we are going I suppose."
"Let's do it," said Sam and he and Josie climbed inside.
"You said you wanted warm and lovely beaches," said Carrie. "Well
we've got warm, let's see if we can find you a lovely beach."
After about 15 minutes they turned off the main road and headed
slightly downhill on a narrow road that led through a small village. A
few hundred yards further on the car stopped outside two whitewashed
little villas overlooking a moonlit beach.
"Well here's the beach," said Carrie, "yours is the one on the left.
Have a wonderful night and we shall see you in the morning."
"Won't you have to fly back to London?" asked Sam.
"Only when you are ready to go," replied Jess, "You have us for the
next 10 days."
"I don't want to sound rude," said Sam "But what exactly do we have
you for?"
"To take you wherever you want to go," replied Jess. "These are your
bags, call us if you need anything, we are right next door; good
night."
In a daze Sam followed Josie to the front door of the villa, where she
produced a key and let them in and turned on the light. The stone
construction meant that it was cool inside and the air smelled fresh.
"I'll get the bags Sammie while you find the bedroom; I can't wait to
get my hands on you," said Josie as she gave Sam a predatory look.
Close to the entrance Sam saw a broad stone staircase, which he
guessed would lead to the bedrooms and so holding the skirt of his
dress he climbed up. The main bedroom faced the sea and a breeze was
gently wafting through the open window. He stood looking out to sea,
completely entranced and did not realise that Josie had joined him
until she began to unbutton his dress. When the last button was
released the dress fell to the floor in a silky puddle. Josie then
moved to the front and began to release his stockings and slide them
off his legs followed by his girdle and panties. Sam noticed that she
was naked and his excitement increased.
"This is how I like you my darling," she said. "In your bra and
petticoat. Ellie told me that I should keep you in petticoats and I
think she is right. Would you like to be in petticoats when you are
Sammi? They make you so feminine; I think that I will insist."
Josie put her arms around Sam and began to walk him backwards till his
legs hit the bed. Keeping her grip she leaned into him firmly and she
gave a squeal of delight as Sam toppled backwards onto the bed with
Josie on top.
"Now my darling bride it's time to make you mine forever," said Josie
in a husky voice as she lifted Sam's frilly petticoat.
The next few minutes were pure bliss as Josie rode her bride, slowly
at first and then with increasing fervor until both climaxed together
with shrieks that would have rivaled the Hawker's engines at full
throttle. Shortly after Josie had a fit of giggles.
"I wonder what Carrie and Jess thought of that racket," she said.
"Probably too busy making their own concert," said Sam as he slid down
the bed and started to lap up the delicious juices between Josie's
legs.
They lay together for a while before each fell into a deep contented
sleep. When they awoke it was after nine and Sam, still in his
petticoat went downstairs to put the kettle on. There was a note that
had been pushed under the door. "Join us for breakfast- Jess and
Carrie."
Sam carried the cases upstairs and showed Josie the note.
'We'd better get moving then," she said getting out of bed. After
using the adjoining bathroom she returned to open the cases.
"This one's yours Sammi; you won't find any boy clothes, only dresses
and petticoats and the odd skirt, but lots of lovely lingerie. The
petticoats are all with laces so I will need to help you; now hurry my
love, we have an appointment."
A few minutes later Sam was ready to go. He was wearing a pretty
summer dress over a bouncy petticoat. The straps of his lacy bra
peeped out from under the dresses slender shoulder straps. Josie was
wearing a pair of shorts and a T-shirt.
Josie tapped on the door and it was opened by a smiling Carrie, who
was also wearing a loose dress. Jess like Josie was wearing shorts.
The kitchen table was laid with local cheese and freshly baked bread,
olives and figs; a pot of coffee was steaming on the counter.
"Don't our wives look gorgeous in their pretty dresses," said Jess as
they ate their breakfasts.
"They certainly do," agreed Josie. "And Sammi is also wearing a lovely
petticoat; show them dear."
"I am sure that Jess and Carrie are not interested in my petticoat
Josie," sighed Sam.
"I am," declared Jess.
"Me too," added Carrie.
Sam reluctantly pulled up the skirt of his dress and an explosion of
pretty white lace burst out.
"Oh how lovely," cried Jess and Carrie together.
"I love the idea of Sammi being in petticoats during our honeymoon.
I'm experimenting with knots so she can't undo them on her own," said
Josie with a smirk.
"I can do better than that," said Jess getting to her feet and
disappearing into the other room. She appeared a moment later with a
needle and thread and gently pulled Sam out of his chair.
"Lift the back of your dress Sammi," said Jess. "And we will soon fix
your petticoat so that it won't come off unless Josie wants it to."
With that she made a few deft stitches through the bow of the
petticoat and gave them an experimental tug.
"All done," she said. "Just cut the threads when you want it off,
Josie."
"How clever," cried Josie, "I bet that feels much better doesn't it
Sammi?
"You are right Josie, no one should suffer the indignity of a loose
petticoat, especially an Olympic champion," said Sam with heavy irony.
"Sorry darling, I just can't help teasing you a little; it's such a
novelty for me to see you a bit vulnerable," said Josie in an
apologetic tone.
"No need to apologise Josie, you know how much I love wearing feminine
clothes and I certainly don't begrudge you your enjoyment of being the
dominant partner for a bit."
"Carrie and I had a feeling we would love spending some time with you
Sammi and Josie and we are not disappointed; in fact I think we
probably have a lot in common," remarked Jess.
"Well Sammi and I certainly do," said Carrie with a laugh, "Although I
think I started earlier than you. Fortunately for me I have achieved
my dream of being both a captain and a stewardess, thanks to Jess. I
remember looking at the cabin crew when I was flying and wishing that
I could wear their skirts."
Jess laughed and said, "And I wished I could be on the flight deck
wearing a captain's uniform."
"Thank goodness we both got our wishes," said Carrie.
"Sorry to change the subject," said Sam. "But last night you said that
you had us for the week and I was too confused to take it all in; what
exactly did you mean?"
"Your boss Ellie hired us for the duration of your honeymoon,"
explained Jess. "She is working out an arrangement with Christina, my
boss, to fly her models and staff to events around Europe. We only
take female passengers, or those like you who present as women, so
this would be a great boost to our company. Anyway Ellie thought it
would be nice if you could be free to go anywhere you want over the
next 10 days. You don't have to leave here if you don't want to, but
Carrie and I will look after you whatever you decide. Carrie assists
me in my other profession, which is dressmaker, but she is also a
first rate cook and she will be preparing all your meals when you want
to eat in. We certainly won't be intrusive and will completely respect
your privacy."
"Thank you," said Sam. "Actually it will be lovely to spend time with
you both. Speaking for myself I would love to spend the next day or so
here. The beach and sea look so inviting, but I don't think I would
look acceptable in a ladies bathing suit because of the bulge in the
wrong place."
"I've thought of that Sammi darling and I have brought you two very
pretty swim dresses that will hide any unladylike frontage and I can't
wait to see you in them," said Josie.
"Well no time like the present," said Sam getting up. "Who is coming
with me?"
"Me," said Josie, Carrie and Jess in unison.
Once back in their bedroom Josie handed Sam a very stylish, black one
piece swim dress.
"I'd better release you from your petticoat," she said as she grabbed
a small pair of scissors and quickly snipped the stitches that Jess
had put in the petticoats bow.
"Is it really necessary to sew me into my petticoat?" asked Sam.
"Yes darling it makes me very excited to think of you trapped in your
petticoat and only I can release you and that is only if you are a
good girl."
"Come here," said Sam and he took Josie in his arms and kissed her
lovingly. "I'll always be a good girl for you and if it excites you
then please do sew me into my petticoat."
They got changed and Sam was relieved to find that the attached skirt
of his suit really did an effective job of hiding his bulge. They then
put some towels and sunscreen in a bag and headed down to the beach
where Jess and Carrie were already waiting. When they saw Sam, Jess
and Carrie each gave a loud "Wow."
"Sorry Sammie, but you do look sensational," said Jess.
Sam's body was still as lean and muscular as when he had returned from
the Olympics. The swim dress accentuated these features and his tall
frame with his long black hair hanging down his back gave him a
stunning appearance. Carrie was wearing a similar type of bathing suit
and with a cheeky grin she gripped the sides of her skirt and gave a
pretty curtsey.
"You are all very beautiful and I'm thrilled to be here," said Sam.
"The water looks wonderful, come on, last one in's a boy'."
There were shrieks of laughter as they all rushed towards the waves.
Jess stumbled a little and the others got there first.
"Boy, boy, boy," they chanted and squealed with delight as she tried
to splash them.
They spent a large part of the day on the beach. At lunchtime Carrie
went up to their villa and came back with a picnic lunch of salad,
fruit, fresh bread and two chilled bottles of white wine.
After lunch and a relaxing snooze Sam went for a run along the beach.
He loved the feeling of the shallow water on his bare feet and the
gentle breeze ruffling his skirt and his damp hair streaming behind
him.
"Girls really do have a lot of fun," he thought.
In the afternoon Carrie and Jess walked up to the village and came
back with recently caught fish and local vegetables and that evening
Carrie cooked a delicious dinner which they all ate outside on the
stone patio between the two villas. Three bottles of wine disappeared
very easily and the four of them sat outside gazing at the inky waters
in the fading light and feeling utterly content.
The next day was passed in a similar manner to the one before, except
that Sam and Josie took a walk up to the village and had lunch at a
tiny restaurant overlooking the sea. That evening Carrie produced
another splendid meal.
"We wondered whether you would like to take a trip tomorrow?" asked
Jess.
"Where to?" asked Josie.
"There is a magnificent healing temple; they are called Asclepeions,
on Kos. It would take us less than an hour to fly there, about the
same time as it would take to drive from the airport to the site. No
pressure, but if you would like to, Ellie would love to get some
fashion shots at the site."
Josie looked at Sam who nodded.
"We'd love to go, it would make a great outing and we owe Ellie a
favour after this amazing honeymoon," said Sam.
"Okay, I'll just make a few phone calls to arrange everything. Ellie
has an agent who will take care of all the details," said Jess.
The next day Carrie was dressed in her smart company pencil skirt and
blouse and Jess had on her pilot's uniform.
"We will take a change of clothing, but when we are flying we need to
look professional," explained Jess.
Carrie giggled and said, "And in my case I just love to dress as a
stewardess."
A few minutes later Jess handed her phone to Sam; it was a call from
Ellie.
"Sammi my dear, thank you for doing this; I love the setting on Kos
and have thought of doing a shoot there for some time. Your closeness
suddenly brought it to mind. I have sent Jenny with a camera crew and
the dresses and they will meet you at the airport. I trust you are
having a marvelous time; aren't Jess and Carrie great?"
This time they took a taxi to the airport and because they were flying
within Greece the formalities were much more straightforward. Within
about 20 minutes they were airborne and as soon as it was safe to do
so Carrie began to fuss around her passengers.
"Carrie relax," said Sam. "We have just finished breakfast."
"Can't help it," said Carrie, "I just love doing this job, but only if
I can wear a skirt."
40 minutes later they landed on Kos and were met by Jenny, who gave
them warm hugs, one of the London photographers and the local agent
and a helper, who had arranged a minibus to take them to the temple.
It took about 45 minutes and because the agent had made special
arrangements they were allowed to drive into the site and park quite
near the ruins. The temple covered a large area with terraces and well
preserved broad stairways led from one level to the next. The
photographers spent some time deciding where they wanted to take
pictures and while they did so Sam changed into the first dress, which
was a long flowing gown, which suited the setting admirably.
They spent almost 3 hours at the site and Sam modeled eight different
dresses in a variety of poses using the ancient stonework in many
imaginative ways. The weather was hot so they took many breaks for
refreshing drinks. Eventually Jenny was satisfied and assured them
that Ellie would be delighted with the results. After stopping at a
nearby village for lunch, they headed back to the airport, where Jess
and Carrie, who had both been wearing cool sundresses changed back
into their flight uniforms. Less than 2 hours later they were back at
their villas where they quickly changed into bathing suits for a
refreshing swim.
They spent another 2 days relaxing and enjoying the location. The only
time that Josie would release Sam from his petticoat was when they
were either swimming or Sam was running on the beach, at which time he
wore a running skirt. Sam began to relish the feel of the petticoat on
his bare legs and the idea that Josie was pretending to force him to
wear it, coupled with the fact he was unable to remove it, excited him
tremendously. On the Thursday afternoon Carrie and Jess announced that
they had to return to London the next day, but would be back Saturday
morning and would collect Josie and Sam to take them to a surprise
location.
"Right Sammi I'm putting you back in your wedding dress for tonight's
dinner with Jess and Carrie," Josie informed him.
Sam made a quick step forward and grabbed his wife in a strong hug and
Josie gave a little squeak of surprise.
"Josie I can't begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed having you in
charge during this honeymoon; it's been more than exciting, it's been
positively thrilling."
"Oh my darling I love you so much as Sam and Sammi. I'm so glad I can
have both. I was concerned that the two you's could cause a conflict
for both of us, but seeing how well Jess and Carrie seem to manage is
very reassuring."
That night they had another memorable dinner on the patio. The three
were seated when Sam made his entrance, gliding over the patio with
his dress flowing behind.
"Oh Sammie, where would I ever find a wife as beautiful as you?" asked
Josie.
"You could try eBay," replied Sam.
Sam and Josie shared a bottle of wine, but neither Jess nor Carrie
would drink.
"Too close to flying," explained Jess. "Sorry, because I would love to
toast the beautiful bride."
"Well Carrie could," said Josie trying to pour an extra glass.
"No I'm the backup pilot," said Carrie. "That's one of the reasons
Christina, our boss, likes having me; she gets a stewardess and a
spare pilot for the same price."
Jess laughed and said, "Darling you'd do it for nothing just to wear
the skirt."
"No," corrected Carrie, "I'd pay to do it if I could wear the skirt."
After dinner when it was quite dark Josie insisted on taking Sam for a
walk on the beach while he was still wearing his wedding dress. They
walked hand in hand feeling the heavy sand on their bare feet. As they
neared the villa on their return Josie suddenly pulled Sam to a stop.
"Lay down Sammi, I want your tongue in my pussy and then after you
have made me cum, I going to fuck you right here on the beach. Come on
darling do you wifely duty."
"Oh Josie I love obeying you," said Sam as he sank to the sand.
A few minutes later the orgasms that occurred would have been very
high on the Richter Scale.
"I can't understand why women don't wear their wedding dresses more
often," mused Sam as they walked back to their villa.
"That's because most women are not like you Sammi," answered Josie.
The next morning they had breakfast with Jess and Carrie as usual,
after which there was time for a quick swim before Jess and Carrie had
to leave.
"I'll come and collect you in the morning around 9," said Carrie,
"That way we will have most of the day to enjoy ourselves."
Sam and Josie pressed for more details but Carrie would say no more.
The next morning at exactly 9 o'clock Carrie's smiling face appeared
at their door and she helped them get their bags into the waiting
taxi. She was dressed as usual in her stewardess uniform. The taxi
dropped them right onto the tarmac outside the Hawker and Carrie
ushered them aboard. Sam was of course wearing a dress and Josie, who
was behind him on the stair, was delighted when a little gust of wind
lifted Sam's skirt and revealed his pretty petticoat in all its glory.
The door to the flight deck was closed and there was a curtain halfway
down the cabin so Sam and Jose selected adjacent seats close to the
front. Carrie followed them on and closed the cabin door.
"Would you two like a drink," she asked and Sam and Josie both
selected club soda?
"I'm going to be on the flight deck this morning," said Carrie. "But
we have two new stewardesses who will be looking after you I'll just
send them out."
She went through to the flight deck and Sam and Josie heard some
giggling and then Jamie and Mandy emerged holding hands and giggling.
"We hope you have a pleasant flight with Christina Airways," they said
in unison. "Our names are Jamie and Mandy and it is our pleasure to
serve you this morning."
They were both wearing the same type of company skirt and blouse as
Carrie and still holding hands they each gave a little curtsey and
giggled some more.
"Oh no, there goes any chance we had of good service with these two in
charge," came a familiar voice from behind the curtain, which was
whisked back to reveal the grinning faces of Ellie and Jeanie.
"Surprise," they shouted. "We knew how much you'd be missing us so we
just had to come and join you."
"Actually I thought I needed a break and also wanted to do some hands
on supervision at an Adriatic photo shoot," explained Ellie. "I
believe that I also mentioned that we are branching into teen fashion
so I brought these two along as models. Actually one would have been
enough, but it seems that with these two it's both or none."
Jamie and Mandy disappeared into the galley and came out a moment
later with Sam and Josie's drinks.
"Clearly having a family connection doesn't improve the service on
this flight," said Jeanie in a loud voice.
"Mum you are disturbing the other passengers," said Jamie sternly,
"What do you want?"
"I'd like a hug from my daughter please young lady," said Jeanie with
a grin.
Further discussion was suspended because Jess, from the flight deck,
announced they were ready to taxi and everyone had to take their
seats.
Sam and Josie were amused to see Jamie and Mandy still holding hands
as they sat in the jump seats at the front. Once they were airborne
Jamie came on the PA.
'Our stewardesses will now come through the cabin giving hugs to their
mothers, sisters and anyone else who would like one; you can also have
a drink."
The announcement ended with another bout of giggling. When they had
completed this task Jamie and Mandy approached Sam carrying a duffle
bag.
"Sammi, Sally gave this to us to bring," said Jamie, opening the bag
to reveal boxing gloves and pads.
"We hoped you'd be able to give us some more lessons," said Jamie in a
pleading tone.
"Of course," said Sam, "I'd love to do that."
"And Sammi, we had this marvelous idea that we discussed with Sally
and she said to ask you," said Mandy breathlessly.
Sam looked enquiringly and Mandy rushed on.
"Jamie and I thought, wouldn't it be marvelous if we founded a boxing
club for transgender kids; somewhere they could work out safely. We
thought that you and Sally could be the star instructors and it could
be ever so popular," said Mandy, the words just spilling out of her
mouth.
Sam looked thoughtful and said in a serious tone, "Would it be called
the Jamie and Mandy Boxing Club?"
"We hadn't got that far yet," Jamie admitted.
"Well it's a serious question," Sam said, but then was no longer able
to stop the grin creeping across his face. "Sorry I'm teasing you.
Girls it's a wonderful idea and I'd be glad to help and I suspect that
Sally would as well, let's talk about some of the details over the
weekend."
Loud whoops of joy filled the cabin.
Josie leaned across and squeezed Sam's arm.
"Whether you are a boy or a girl you are just a wonderful human
being."
She was silent for a moment before pulling Sam closer to her.
"Sammi do you know what day it is?"
"It's Saturday," answered Sam.
"And what happens on Saturdays, well the last two anyway?"
"Well we got married on the last two Saturdays," replied Sam.
Josie looked up at him with her big eyes.
"Sammi I was just thinking, that considering where we are flying to,
it might be a good thing to get married again just to make sure."
"Where are we flying to, no one has told me?" asked Sam.
"Lesbos of course, you silly girl."
Sam stared at her for a minute.
"But my dress is filthy after our encounter on the beach"
"Ellie made two," said Josie smugly.
"And I suppose she just happened to bring it with her?" asked Sam
sarcastically.
"Of course," replied Josie, "and she also brought Jamie and Mandy's
bridesmaid dresses."
"Ah but that's only two; I need three bridesmaids," said Sam
triumphantly.
"Carrie is your third bridesmaid."
"But she doesn't have a dress," Sam persisted.
"Jess made her one identical to Jamie and Mandy's."
Sam played his last card.
"We don't have anyone to conduct the ceremony."
"Yes we do; Jess is a captain and captains are allowed to conduct
weddings."
"But that's ships captains, not aircraft captains," Sam protested.
"No rule that says she can't," said Josie. "Sorry Missy, but that's
another week in petticoats for you as an obedient wife; Carrie can sew
you in when they dress you.
"Does Carrie have scissors when I want to get my petticoat off?" asked
Sam.
"I'm sure she does; why do you ask?"
"Tell her to throw them away," said Sam as he kissed his wife.
