Wrestlecade 1998 was the biggest event in Global Championship Wrestling
history. The show was the highlight of the year for all of professional
wrestling and garnered huge attention. It was so big that the media
carried it on every major network broadcast and was in every major
newspaper headline.
Why? What could possibly get the world into a frenzy? It was just
professional wrestling.
The reason for the vast interest that year was the stipulation: the
loser had to spend one year wresting as a woman, with the women treating
him as just another female in the women's division. With no way of
escaping the stipulation outside of the ring, he would have to wear
dresses and a wig the entire year and suffer as the other women did with
photo shoots, publicity tours, and "special" matches- evening gown,
gelatin, mud, and lingerie matches. He'd be a female in all ways, except
he wasn't female at all.
The company was dead serious about this match being true to its
contract: the loser would never escape it and would be fired if he broke
the stipulations in any way. He had to be a woman, no matter what he did
he was a woman for one year. No special treatment, no special locker
room: he was a woman.
The reason why such a crazy stipulation was even considered was that it
wasn't just a match: it was for the GCW Championship, with the winner
being the top wrestler in the world and leading the company for at least
the next four months if not longer. He'd be all over the globe, known to
everyone who had a bit of pop culture knowledge in them. He'd have a job
anywhere in the world as a wrestler for years.
The match featured two of the biggest names in wrestling: a man known as
Ice Box Stan Dallas vs. Ted, "The Viper" Rude. Stan Dallas earned his
nickname two decades before while boxing as a kid and teen while Ted
earned his as one of the best guys to ever grace a microphone and then
striking hard when you least expect it. The two were at a crossroads in
their careers with one winding down and the other about to be
immortalized by fans making it all the more serious.
The match was one that was more than it seemed as the feud that preceded
it was a huge mix of classic male chauvinism, mistreatment of women and
people who were "beneath" the heel(bad guy) Ted, and angering fans and
other wrestlers alike to show that Ted was worthy of Stan's title as
well as better than him in every way possible. It was something that
angered Stan and led to the two battling for weeks on the microphone and
against allies of the other until they finally stopped talking and met
in-ring in front of thousands of people in Fenway Park while millions
around the world watched.
The match was one of the best matches put on by the wrestlers as they
were genuinely great at what the job called for: athleticism, stamina,
strength, endurance, and quick reactions. The two went at it and did not
stop until the Ted's valet got involved and distracted Stan leading to a
low blow and Ted's finishing move to earn a victor. It was all over, Ice
Box Stan Dallas had lost and had to be a woman for a year!
Things only got worse for Stan as his contract stipulation was
reiterated leading a contingent of ladies to put a dress over his head,
a wig on his head, and quick makeup then dub him to be, "One of us now".
Ted laughed it up but Stan took it in stride: he would be true to his
word and honored their stipulation even if it meant a year of
humiliation at the hands of the ladies. He chose to endure it, he chose
to be a real man and act as a woman rather than get fired.
Images of Ice Box Stan Dallas in a dress and wig flashed worldwide and
it seemed like 75% of all had heard what happened or seen replays of it.
He was ridiculed and humiliated by ultra-masculine men yet lauded by
women for acting the part of a woman. He was a polarizing figure, but he
did his job well as he did it without complaint leading to many women
calling out the men for their sexist remarks.
One year as a woman was just that: one year dressing as a woman complete
with wig, dress, shoes, and purse. GCW did periodic updates to his
progression as vignettes of him learning how to walk, talk, act, and
apply makeup as a woman were shown. What shocked the world was that he
never broke character and acted like them to the point that he was, "One
of them" and gave his own suggestions, with the fans cheering as he got
the better of some of the women while others laughed at the turnaround.
The vignettes then started to focus on his helping the women with moves
and learning new ways to be a performer without having to be a blonde
bombshell. Some of the worst women benefited from him as their moves
improved and showed that being beautiful wasn't the only requirement for
being one of the top women in GCW. The women listened to him and
learned, with some of the heel ladies having to be new kinds of heels
after their time with him as they were constantly breaking character
causing scripts to be rewritten to incorporate the ladies' unintentional
yet beneficial flubs.
The stipulation that he participate as a woman was used multiple times
as the weeks wore on, he had to participate in singles and tag matches
against the heels and was often the butt of their vicious actions in an
attempt to get him to react strongly against them. He used new moves on
them, ones that didn't use any of his power moves and utilized their own
momentum against them: submissions "small package" roll-ups, last second
moves from the landing spots. It was clear that he wasn't trying to hurt
them yet he had to still compete and win so showed that forgetting the
basics of wrestling can be used against you.
Tag team matches were the most fun as the ladies were eager to work with
him as he'd bring them a lot of recognition while showing what they
could do on camera. The "worst" ladies were frequently put in a match
alongside him with him taking most of the abuse before his partner got
involved and showed it was really her whom they should have focused on
as she dominated them with quick moves and even quicker finishers. The
finishing moves wowed audiences, so much so that several earned title
shots and attention from other wrestlers as they sought to work with
them due to their similar move-sets.
Outside of the ring, he was never in male clothing. He drove in female
clothes, appeared on local radio and TV stations in female clothes, and
shopped in his hometown in female clothes. He was fully aware that some
"fans" might try to take pictures of him "en-homme" so he chose to keep
up kayfabe(in-ring storylines) and act like nothing was out of the
ordinary and he was just himself even dressed feminine.
366 days was a long time, but finally Wrestlecade 1999 came and the
long-awaited rematch for the title and a new stipulation: the loser had
to either spend the next year as a woman or retire. It was something
that few would dare accept, with Stan happy to announce to the world
that he'd go one step further and transition to female and not even
compete as a man anymore as he would be better off with those on the
roster whom he had made great friendships with and whom he had helped
improve.
The announcement was something that was even more shocking than the
previous year's stipulation. It was a literal life and death match as it
would be the death of Stan's manhood if he lost. There was no greater
challenge than that, he had topped everyone else in the wrestling world.
The match was tight and featured multiple two-counts, rope-breaks, and
referee warnings to both Stan and Ted. The valet for Ted tried her
hardest to interfere with the match and cause a disqualification but was
kept at bay by several of Stan's quick thinking moves and simple
reversals and actions that Stan had used on the ladies. It was back and
forth and proved to be something for the ages as it was hard to tell who
was winning the match.
Things started to go downhill for Ted when his valet was warned to stay
clear of them and had all of the women on the roster chasing her around
the ring trying to get her away from the referee. She tried her hardest
to get into the ring but saw the women on the roster yanking her away
and causing the referee to finally ignore her to focus on the match as
the ladies had things in control outside of the ring.
She was doing her best but it wasn't good enough: she couldn't get close
to either Stan or the referee while screaming at all of the ladies for
ruining Ted's match. Without his valet to distract the referee Ted
started to tire and missed his usual cheating chances and finally made a
mistake when he went for a low blow that was blocked and led to a leg
sweep. Ted fell on his face and was caught in a submission hold, so
quickly that it wasn't noticed until it was too late- he was caught and
unable to break free.
Ted was forced to submit, tapping-out and losing the match as well as
the stipulation. Ted, the yearlong loudmouth champion and longtime top
heel in GCW, had to be a woman for a full year or retire from wrestling.
He angrily stormed off, firing his valet while telling a laughing locker
room that he wasn't going to be a woman and was done as a wrestler as
The Viper was no woman.
Stan celebrated his victory with the women and walked off with them,
happily showing the world that he was man enough to be a woman while his
colleague wasn't. He was the champion the fans clamored for and got, he
was the epitome of a top wrestler and why GCW was at their peak and in a
winning war with their rival company. They pushed limits, but he did so
with dignity and grace.
Backstage proved to be completely different without the cameras. Ted was
actually a big friend of Stan and conceived the storyline so that Ted
could go out in a blaze of glory as he moved from GCW to their rival
Extreme World Wrestling once his contract expired so that he could be
their top star and help with a new breed of wrestlers that GCW had
avoided until then. Stan and he had a huge idea that they spent six
months perfecting then another six trying to convince Vince Turner, the
owner of GCW, to finally allow them to implement and give GCW publicity
that nobody could ever give.
In the meantime, Stan rose through the ranks from the Global Champion, a
tag team champion, to their world champion- all on the back of Stan's
hard work and Ted's support behind the scenes. Stan was the face of the
company as he rose, with his signature entrance music of a saxophone and
piano after a big, "Oh hell no!" from him as he walked to the ring with
a determined look on his face being beloved by a fanbase that continued
to grow over time. He wasn't just a rising star, he was THE star of GCW
then.
Stan worked hard to perfect his personna as he wrestled in small
promotions before GCW found him by chance one day a decade before. He
went through the ranks as a jobber, working up to regular spots at house
shows, then graduated to their TV shows. He did so well that he was
taken in as a star in the making until he hit a snag creatively making
him have to sit out several months as GCW tried to find a way to use him
without getting stale.
That time off allowed Stan to work on his iconic Ice Box persona. He
felt that he was best left being the ultimate "Tweener": a guy who could
be a face(good guy) or heel(bad guy) in feuds while also being the one
who helped others if they were in trouble. He could be used in many ways
and was the go-to for a lot of guys as he was always available and
always ready to help improve them without hurting himself.
This was when he met Ted and worked on their characters to the point
that the two were intertwined in a longstanding yet strong partnership
that would make for an epic falling-out between them on camera. The two
spent years wrestling alongside one another as friends, driving between
cities alongside a few of the women and working with the women to
perfect their abilities while talking with them as if they were
colleagues instead of eye-candy. The two were able to help the ladies
overcome ring anxieties and put themselves on the map as they could work
harder for longer than others and do it with beauty.
Ted was one of the biggest idea contributors among wrestlers, a role
that he never received pay for but which he excelled. He had saved the
careers of a dozen wrestlers, it was natural for him to transition to
producer for another promotion and leave on top with Stan Dallas doing
the impossible in achieving cult status as the greatest fan-favorite
wrestler of all time. Ted would move on to another promotion, in doing
so he opened the door for others to replace him while helping even more
grow as wrestlers.
The match was helped by the women being paid more money for putting on
their acts for Stan. He was paid double his normal salary as he actually
did serve as a trainer as was seen on TV and as one of their
producers(match coordinator) for the women, then did a lot of his own
makeup as well as the makeup for the women so did three extra jobs that
others would have done That information was kept private, but it was an
open secret among the locker room that he had talents for makeup that
wasn't kayfabe and had done it for them at their request as he proved
that it wasn't just for the cameras with him.
Stan spent hours working with the women, always in dresses and makeup
and always acting as if it was no big deal to him. It wasn't: he
actually loved being dressed as a woman and knew how to put on the
makeup as he practiced doing so at home. His hand was steady, and he
helped the women look so good that he was frequently used during the
pay-per-views as a secondary artist when he wasn't in the ring.
Makeup wasn't his only secret, he had also dressed in secret at home for
decades. He grew up putting on his mother's and sister's dresses then
enjoyed hundreds of hours at home sewing, cutting, and sizing his own
dresses to wear in private. He knew fashion and was happy to talk with
the ladies about it with the cameras off, with the ladies assuming that
his ex-wife had taught him about fashion and designs.
Ted knew his secret and thought that he needed an outlet for it before
he was caught by the media or his ever growing fanbase, "En-femme" even
at home. He suggested that he be honest and admit to having a bit of
experience but not go further. Some would happily use it against him,
others would sue GCW in the hopes of getting money while destroying
Stan's career while gaining a name for themselves.
Stan's year en-femme was a boon for his hometown but only for two months
as it was clear that he had been away from the town more than he was
home and sightings were extremely rare. He lived the life of a bachelor
wrestler: competing away from home all but one weekend a month and even
then he was at home and rarely left. He had little reason to leave, he'd
stock up on certain items that would last him through a year and his
dietary needs were closely monitored so little was bought from
shopkeepers.
Stan actually only came home every three months, he drove everywhere and
had coolers filled with his food that he would buy from stores along the
way when he needed to replenish his stocks. He drove in an RV so had all
of the comforts of home meaning he never checked into hotels and could
indulge in all of his vices without anyone knowing. He kept two dresses
in his RV that once belonged to his wife, the dresses were in his size
and happened to also be in her size so he claimed that he just couldn't
part with them whenever one of the wrestlers who needed a ride to the
next arena asked about them.
Several realized that he was lying yet never confronted him about it. It
was something that he did to be able to cope with the road, a lot of
others used drugs or drank heavily so having a vice that didn't harm him
in the ring was actually something that they approved of. They never
talked about it, privacy was a big unspoken rule among wrestlers and
unless they violated yours you didn't violate theirs.
Stan's fame brought issues with the town after he started to become a
larger media star, so much so that he told the town that he wasn't
living there anymore but they could profit from visitors, with him doing
the smart thing and moving to a secluded location that only he and Vince
Turner knew about. It wasn't a truly secluded location, just far from
people and enough space to give him true privacy. He spent a lot of time
looking for land to build on and finally stumbled on a huge property in
rural Penobscot County, Maine that was accessible from air and within
reasonable driving distance to Portland.
Vince seemed to understand him more than he let on and over time as the
road ground Stan down Vince started to see that Stan needed to do
something else, to step out and be the face of the company through other
means. Being champion was one thing, but Stan was someone that people
adored no matter what he did in the ring. He needed to take GCW global
and take it to Hollywood to reach a wider audience.
Stan was a classic tough guy who could pull off someone who was upset at
you for spilling his drink as well as someone who would punch out
someone trying to hurt you with a sucker punch. He could act as well as
he could perform in the ring, with his ability to personify characters
helping him move on from action scenes to legitimate acting as gym
teachers, counselors, fathers, and other people. Stan was one of the
most versatile character actors in Hollywood with just a year of acting
under his belt and did so without the need to try to overcompensate to
make himself known to the audiences.
Acting brought in millions of dollars as he started to go beyond
character acting and into leading roles, with his wrestling career
taking a hit as he was frequently elsewhere and wasn't able to face many
of the newer wrestlers brought in to try to upstage him. Vince was smart
in keeping him away, he wanted the new crop to shine on their own and if
they needed Stan to do so then they weren't star material. The duo were
in a complete understanding: Stan was more valuable to GCW away from GCW
and could be one of their top stars no matter what, he didn't need to
wrestle to still get cheers and sell t-shirts.
After his second starring movie was a surprise hit, he had more clout
and was able to hone in on what it meant to be a star in Hollywood:
doing more than just star. He decided to put his money into several of
the movies being produced causing his involvement to spark interests in
the movies even if he wasn't a star in any of them. His money was repaid
tenfold as his choice of going for, "Points" of the gross and not the
net or outright repayment with interest making him wealthy and have
clout enough to steer any of the movies that he was involved in the way
that he wanted them to go.
His involvement went deeper as he worked with the music departments to
develop scores that suited his movies and went so far as to actually
perform on several to show that he wasn't just a star and producer and
could back his words with action. His musical abilities were something
few knew about, he hid the talent behind his athleticism and only showed
it on the soundtracks. His works were done under a name that few knew:
his real name. It kept people from connecting him to the music while
also giving him a chance to save money for his family while they were
unaware of just what he was doing in Hollywood.
He shocked the media by performing at the Academy Awards as part of a
nominated song from one of the movies that he had invested in. He played
the piano while the singer sang around him, with none of those in
attendance able to believe that their "colleague" was so talented. It
got a lot of interest in him as he spoke to the media after the
performance, with him telling them that he had performed three times as
part of the orchestra and was never noticed, especially as he had three
pieces nominated for awards.
He had actually won one of the awards, his real name was used and as it
wasn't on the program he and the others involved in the production
weren't known so didn't get much notice until he performed up on stage
in front of the world. The funniest part of the whole discovery was that
he actually had been in music videos performing and nobody seemed to
notice then but he was performing with the beat. He had reason keep up
with the beat: he performed his own music and wrote the song being
performed!
Stan Dallas was a name that was known throughout the world yet nobody
knew the real man, the one in a dress every night and never wore male
underwear unless he was going somewhere. His RV was in the parking lot
of every major arena in the US and Canada and was seen around LA
whenever he filmed a movie. Nobody dared try to enter the RV, especially
as he was so protective of himself to the point of only interacting with
others when he had to- something few expected of a major Hollywood star.
His RV actually saved money as he refused to use one of the usual
trailers on set and spent his time on set quietly working on his music
and writing his memoirs for the inevitable life story demands. He had a
lot of fellow actors and actresses make fun of that, but none dared say
it when he was around and the few who did learned quickly that he wasn't
afraid to make them regret it as his verbal abilities weren't just for
show: he could insult you, demean you, and cause you to cry easily. That
came from years on the road with men who needed that ability and from
writers who went on to write the same movies that those same actors and
actresses starred in without anyone except him knowing their histories.
He would make occasional appearances on GCW programs as-needed and would
be used to put over a new heel or face for the company while promoting
his newest movie. It was fun to him as it wasn't meant to be long-
lasting nor meant to take him away from his current projects. He had
control of the segments, with the newcomers usually appreciating his
wise words while the few who hated his being there getting the cold
shoulder from him showing the rest of the roster that they didn't meet
any of his exacting standards for what it meant to be a GCW wrestler let
alone a champion.
His movie career wained after five years as the novelty wore off and he
refused to play generic tough guys again. He was able to get jobs as a
voiceover artist while working as a consultant for a few of the movies
that GCW was starting to create for their movie studio- a studio that he
helped create due to the uptick in interest in wrestlers as actors after
his popularity shot up. The studio was seen as a niche studio, but
worked with several major producers who saw their movies as worthwhile
investments.
Stan eventually grew tired of Hollywood and retired from acting, but did
retain his producing duties as he created a production company that he
happily named "Ice Box Productions" which he used to build his resume of
production credits. GCW Studios routinely brought him in as an investor
while knowing that if he was involved there would be a buzz for the
movie. Stan happily enjoyed the millions from the movies even if it was
only a small amount of return but still enough to live comfortably.
Without needing to go anywhere or do anything involving wrestling or
acting he finally got around to finishing his autobiography then endured
having to go on a long publicity tour for the book. Fans had a lot to
read about his life and his reasons for doing certain things, especially
as the man whom they had seen on TV wasn't the same person behind the
scenes. He didn't care that a lot of people would be seen in a bad light
or that some guys who were considered scumbags and jerks were actually
good people or people that would do the wrong things for the right
reasons at times.
The tour took a toll on him and caused him to need to spend several
months away from home down in the Caribbean at a private island owned by
one of the producers that he had befriended. His doctors had tried to
get him to cut back but it wasn't until he suffered chest pains and was
told that if he didn't stop he would die did he finally end the tour and
cancel all of his GCW appearances. He hated disappointing fans, but knew
that they would understand especially when he told the media why he had
to step away.
Vacationing was tough for him as he needed to keep his mind busy. He
swam, ran through the sand to keep fit, and kept the house clean to the
point that the hired housekeeper told him to relax or she'd strap him to
one of the lounge chairs. He complied, grinning as the woman was serious
about that and didn't fear the bigger man at all.
He kept fit and tried to push his limits the but the housekeeper was
under strict orders to keep him from doing just that and admonished him
repeatedly. He gave in after a week and stopped fighting the orders but
he didn't like being treated like an invalid. He finally relaxed,
swimming daily and getting a great tan all over his body- with the
housekeeper not caring one bit over his being nude while tanning.
When the time came to leave he was asked by the housekeeper why he
didn't dress as a woman while on the island. He tried to evade the
question but she explained to him, "It was known to the owners that you
were a crossdresser. They have known a few men who dress casually, your
whole time with GCW as a woman was clear that you were comfortable as a
woman. I would have appreciated you being open about it because I know a
few men who were like you. A couple were really women inside and tried
to act like big men but who weren't. You don't seem to be like that,
just someone who enjoys being like a female for a while and not having a
care in the world."
His time away improved his health but his doctor told him that his heart
was too weak to allow him to compete in the ring anymore and that he was
finished as an action film star outright. He felt horrible, it was
telling him that his life was over and that he had to do something new
with his life. It pained him to think about it, he was back to where he
had been in life back in the early 90s.
He drove home to his property, hoping to spend time alone and think
about the next chapter in his life as things were bleak for him with
nothing on his agenda and little chance of doing anything that would be
satisfying. As he arrived, he found that his home had been rifled
through, with most of his clothes out of place and some of his makeup
strewn across the table out of place and a school bag sitting on the
floor. It's clear that a kid was there, one who found out his biggest
secret!
He went out for a few hours to buy food and ensure that his mail was
rerouted to his home but when he returned, there was nobody there and
the bag was gone. Stan spent the next several days at the cabin but
would travel into town to meet with a banker or the post office or his
lawyer then return home to the cabin rifled through but nobody there. He
felt for the kid, it must have been a refuge to him but it was also some
place that he had to flee to without anyone knowing.
He decided to do something nice and got panties and pantyhose for the
kid. It was going to be tough to not get noticed as he put them on the
table and allowed the kid to have his own things without using the
panties and pantyhose that were too big for him. Stan thought that it
was best to have it for the kid if it was going to be a recurring thing
whenever Stan was gone for the day.
A week after initially finding that a kid had been using his cabin as a
personal dress-up he finally found the kid dressed in one of his old
dresses- one that he hadn't liked and was clearly picked because it was
ugly and not likely to be worn by anyone. The makeup was strewn about,
with the little kid having the ugliest looking lipstick and eye shadow
mix that he had ever seen. The kid clearly had no idea how to do makeup
and make it look like you were feminine and not a drag queen.
The kid was dancing to music only he could hear, but stopped when he
noticed Stan standing over him with a look that spelled trouble. The kid
tried to run but Stan blocked his path. He led the kid over to a chair
and sat him down, with Stan firmly asking him who he was and why he was
there.
The kid looked away in shame and confessed, "My name is Jeff Cole. I
live next door with my mom and baby sister. We moved here two months ago
because my father died in a car accident."
Stan asked why he rifled through his clothes. Jeff looked away in shame
and explained, "I couldn't help it. I walked around your property every
day after school during the fall so I knew it wasn't going to be used by
you. Last month I found the cabin. The boys here have bullied me for a
while, they claim that mom was run off for having an affair even though
they don't know us at all. I would be chased after school so had to find
some place that they didn't know about. I hid inside and waited until
they left. When I saw that there were dresses hanging there untouched I
just had to look at them closer. I kept coming back after school and
couldn't hold off any longer so I put on the dresses and tried to do my
makeup. I know that they're unwanted, nobody likes that style! They're
ugly. I started to like the feel of them and put on the makeup each day.
I found your panties and pantyhose and put them on. I'm too small for
them, I have smaller legs than you. I wanted to be a girl, I liked how I
looked."
He was in tears. Stan sighed and explained to him, "I understand.
Believe me, I know the feeling. I'm a crossdresser. I admit it, you
found my stash of clothes and makeup. I come here to relax whenever I'm
not on the road but I'm going to live here permanently now. I need to
talk with your mother about this, I know that it's embarrassing but I
can get into serious trouble if someone found out that you're here and
I'm here and you're dressed like this. People would love to cause me
embarrassment."
Stan insisted that Jeff take a shower in the bathroom and use wipes to
wash the makeup off as best he could then eat dinner with him, since
Jeff looked hungry and he could hear some gurgling coming from Jeff's
stomach. The two tried to not speak about what happened so far, but
eventually Jeff asked about the new panties and pantyhose. Stan tried to
evade it but he eventually told him, "It's because you really shouldn't
share underwear. We might be guys but I'm older and I have been places
that you haven't and I might accidentally give you a virus or infection
that would be hard to explain to others. Plus it helps a lot to enjoy
the dresses as your legs enjoy the sensation of the fabric as you move
around."
The two walked over to Jeff's house and saw Stan introduced to his
mother. She was upset that Jeff had broken into Stan's cabin, especially
since it might get him taken away from her. Stan assured her that it was
done for the right reasons, he could understand feeling safe away from
everyone else.
Jeff's mother Sarah Cole was dumbfounded that her son would do something
so stupid. Stan looked at her and assured her that he had no choice and
went there because he felt safe. He sighed and looked at the scared
Jeff, then told Sarah that he wasn't upset at Jeff- he wanted him to be
safe from bullies.
Sarah asked what Jeff had been doing at the cabin, thinking the worst
about her son being alone in the woods and trying hard to not look at
her. Stan explained to her, "He was dressing as a girl while there. I
have a bunch of dresses and makeup, he thought that the place was
abandoned so appropriated them for himself. He did it because he was
scared and upset, it helped him deal with the kids here and needed to be
someone else for a bit. I don't blame him, I do the same when at home-
they were my things."
She was shocked. She looked over at Jeff who sported painted nails and
eyeliner with some lipstick still visible on his lips. She asked if it
was some joke, Jeff mumbled, "It's not."
Stan then explained, "I know what he's feeling. He lost his dad, is
being bullied by the locals because of a single mom with young daughter.
The kids need a reason to torment someone, they found the worst in Jeff.
He's trying to be someone else because being himself hurts too much."
Looking over at Jeff he could see the grief in him. He solemnly told
Sarah, "He's welcome at my place. I try to avoid people as much as
possible so he can go over there whenever he wants. I know that it's not
the ideal situation, but the outlet is better than other options. I
don't want him to get suicidal or get into drugs. I've known far too
many who have gone down that route, it's even worse."
She sighed and asked about Stan. Stan explained to her, "I'm a former
professional wrestler. I'm single and have retired to solitude but don't
mind your son coming around if it helps him. I have never been arrested,
I have thousands who can vouch for my character and not just fans."
She shook her head and told him, "I can't stand professional wrestlers.
My husband was one and had a tough time breaking into it without people
trying to use his father against him or to gain something for
themselves. We moved around a lot when Jeff was younger but settled on
Kansas City where he got a job as an architect. That was where my
husband was killed, he was taking me to the hospital to get my stomach
checked out and died because someone in a rush blew through the
intersection. I was really pregnant with my daughter at the time, he
never got to meet his little girl."
She was in tears, Stan hugged her and saw that Jeff had a similar look
of sadness on his face. The two had a lot of grief that they hadn't
gotten out, with Stan helping them without knowing it. He was their
first chance to talk about it, especially as they had nobody else but
themselves now.
Sarah pulled herself together and thanked Stan for caring for her son,
with Stan telling her that he had not felt that good since his own kids
stopped contacting him years ago. She saw the look of sadness on his
face but chose to not ask about that, it was too private. Stan left and
cried that night as he felt like it was the beginning of the end for
him, Sarah would likely go to the police to claim that he hurt Jeff.
That didn't happen. Sarah saw Jeff changing and saw the panties that he
had on and smiled. He tried to be masculine, but he clearly loved
feeling feminine when he was alone.
Jeff came over every day after school to enjoy time as a girl. Stan
ensured that he did first did all of his homework before he allowed Jeff
to dress as a girl. Stan was dressed as one himself, with Jeff having a
look of awe as he saw Stan transform into a stunning woman- albeit one
in her 60s.
The two talked when Jeff finished his homework, with Stan happily
telling stories about his past that he hadn't told anyone before. When
Stan was asked about his kids he evaded the question, causing Jeff to
see that it wasn't the right time to ask such questions. Stan hid his
tears, the boy wanted to know about him and for the first time in ages
it was an honest question about his family life.
Stan sat him down and told him softly, "It's not your fault, you wanted
to know but I don't think I'm at the level of acceptance of what
happened to tell anyone. I accepted that I was divorced and we weren't
really in love, I accepted that my sons grew up without me in their
lives, I accepted that I'll never know my grandchildren. I know that my
younger son died but not when, where, or how. I know that my elder son
is a man of his own and found his own way in life. I regret not fighting
to be part of their lives, it's tough to accept losing your kids because
your wife found your deepest secret and used it against you."
Jeff apologized and went home. Sarah came by not long after to ask if
everything was OK as Jeff was in tears when he came home. Stan solemnly
explained, "He asked a tough question that I wasn't ready for. I don't
blame him for asking it, it was an innocent question but I wasn't ready
to talk about it."
Sarah hugged him and thanked him for not reacting badly to Jeff's
questions. Stan hugged her back and thanked her for caring about her
son. Sarah left and felt bad about Stan being so alone, it was tough to
be all alone in the world without anyone to support you especially with
family so distant like they had.
The next day saw Jeff being chased through Stan's property by a group of
boys who were bigger, faster, and stronger but were being outwitted by
Jeff as he dodge trees and boulders as he ran. Stan was happy to see
that Jeff was doing the smart thing and moving at angles causing them to
swerve around and try to avoid everything, he clearly knew the terrain
and the boys didn't. Jeff knew that sanctuary was close by, all he had
to do was reach the cabin and he'd be safe.
That was the plan, but the boys caught up with him right as he made it
to the cabin. They grabbed him away from the door and started to beat
him senseless, with Stan rushing out of the cabin to grab all of the
boys off of Jeff then put himself between Jeff and the boys. The boys
swore at him and called him all sorts of names, while Stan let them walk
themselves into a corner.
When they finally stopped, Stan authoritatively stated, "Five against
one isn't a fair fight. I don't know what you think you're doing by
beating him, all you're showing is that you're a group of thugs and it's
going to end now. This boy is protected by me. He came here to get away
from you, I can see why he'd want to: you're a group of loud, obnoxious,
smelly brutes. Yes, I said smelly. You bathe in cologne, it's so strong
that it burns the eyes. No girl wants to get close a guy like that, they
hate it. Don't ever chase him, threaten him, lay a finger on him, or
even look at him again. I protect those I care about and he's a person
that I care about. His mother is the same: go after her and I go after
all of you. I go after all of your families, your fathers' jobs, your
homes, your families' businesses. I have the means to do all of it and I
have no qualms about doing so to protect them. Jeff and Sarah Cole are
under my protection."
Jeff had to hide his smile as the boys walked off grumbling about the
old man spoiling their fun. It was the best thing to happen to him in a
long time, it was as if Stan really did care about him. He wanted it to
be true but he felt that Stan was really just trying to protect their
secrets more than just Jeff or Sarah.
Inside the cabin, Stan asked if Jeff could defend himself. Jeff looked
away to which Stan knew that he couldn't do it. Stan grinned and asked
if he wanted to learn, it was clear that he wasn't going to be left
alone by the boys despite the warnings from Stan to leave him be.
Jeff nodded so Stan asked him if he wanted to visit his actual house,
the place that he is officially living at that Stan visited daily
whenever Jeff was in school. Jeff asked why he didn't live there, Stan
looked away and told him firmly, "It doesn't feel like home. It's too
big, I bought it for the land and cabin, the house was part of it. I
keep all of my memorabilia, trucks, title belts, and personal collection
there. It's more like an office than a home, I prefer the isolation and
solitude of the cabin to the empty house."
The next afternoon saw Jeff being put through the wringer in Stan's gym.
Jeff actually had fun trying to run and work his heart up before
stretching and reacting to Stan's movements. Jeff was a natural with a
strong reflex and reaction time that came with being a target for so
long.
When they moved on to learning boxing moves, Stan had Jeff first punch
the various bags and learn to dodge the bag being moved towards him
rather than just going fully into teaching him how to punch. Then he
learned how to punch fast, hard, and precise so that he could inflict
the most damage with the minimal response time from his opponents. Jeff
struggled with this but after two days he was able to anticipate
reactions and find openings to respond to the punches thrown.
Jeff went home tired each night. Sarah saw a spark in Jeff that hadn't
been there before and asked about it. Stan blushed then confessed, "I'm
teaching him boxing at my house. He's learning quickly and show a strong
talent for the sport. He could do well in the sport but it's really so
that he can defend himself."
Sarah wasn't sure that he should learn something so dangerous. Stan
insisted, telling her, "He's a lot like me at the same age. I tried hard
to be something that I wasn't. I wasn't stronger, faster, smarter, or
more athletic than other boys so I had to learn to defend myself I took
up the sport to be a bigger man, but it led to my earning a scholarship
to a private school so I could get out of my backwater town. I did well
enough to earn a spot in the Golden Gloves tournament where I won. I
refused to go pro after that, my heart was set on doing something else.
I learned to box to fight back, and I did well at it. Now it's my chance
to teach someone who needs help. I couldn't do it for my boys, but I can
do it for your son."
Sarah relented but asked that he not hurt Jeff as she didn't want social
services going after her. Stan did his best to assure her that it
wouldn't happen but knew that some damage was likely. He would have to
ask his lawyer about it so that all three were covered in case someone
made a complaint.
Stan's lawyer assured him that he was all set if he got certified by the
proper regulator authorities. Stan called the regulating authorities,
stated his background and training, then his additional resume which got
a laugh until one of them did a search of his claims in their internal
system and found his name, his boxing record, and all of the additional
things that were required of a high-level trainer that he was able to
do. Stan was told that all he needed to do was fill the application and
he'd be all set- approval was a formality but they appreciated that he
asked permission first before starting comprehensive training.
Stan's next call was to social services to alert them about possible
false claims against Sarah and that he would sue the agency for
harassment if they attempted to remove Jeff without an actual
investigation or if they ignored Sarah's rights and took the word of
friends of theirs over the facts. He challenged them to refute it, he
knew full well that at least one of them was going to, "Visit" Sarah to,
"Investigate" Jeff if he actually defeated the boys in a fight. Stan
covered Sarah in case of retaliation and gave them no way out of it: if
they went after Sarah they'd get destroyed legally by him and his
lawyers.
Learning to box started to improve Jeff as his body reacted to the
workouts and started to grow. He put on muscles and weight as his arms
and legs grew stronger, with Stan assuring him that it was going to be
alright even if he looked more masculine than before. His face was still
feminine, which mattered a lot more than his arms and legs as he could
see himself as a girl now despite his growing physique.
Sarah was happy to see Jeff's changes, especially as his confidence grew
alongside his body. He felt as if he could actually beat the boys, that
he was actually strong and not some weakling who had to run to the cabin
every day. He started to help out more at home, including babysitting
his sister while his mom went shopping or needed to take a shower-
something he had never done before for fear of hurting the toddler and
upsetting his mother even if little Jaimie was happy to be around her
big brother.
Jeff's increased confidence showed in school, with his teachers taking
notice and asking about his new lease on life after spending much of the
year holed-up at his desk and not talking to others. He tried to avoid
the question but when pressed he admitted that he was learning boxing
from his neighbor and the man was trying to get him to be a new man. The
teachers backed away, they knew about Stan's past so trying to pry into
his connection to Jeff would be trouble for them especially if Stan
retaliated.
Jeff's growth started to get the girls to notice him, with several
whispering about him starting to look a lot better than before now that
he had clear muscles and, "Filled out" while the other boys were still
not much more than large boys. Jeff's biceps were prominent, and when
they saw him in gym sporting the biggest bulge among the boys it was a
race to try to find out if it was real or if he, "Padded" his shorts. It
was a fun time for the girls: the winner of Jeff would have the biggest
guy in school or biggest letdown.
The boys started to take note of his changes and complained about him
getting the girls looking at him without him knowing. They tied to go
after him and chased him to a lot in town where they encircled him and
tried to fight him. Jeff fought them off, knocking out one while
punching the teeth out of two more before being ganged-up on by the
final three boys.
Their fight caused a commotion which brought deputies to break the fight
up. Jeff was blamed by one of the deputies but the looming Stan demanded
to know how he was at fault when he was forced to go there by a group of
boys and severely outnumbered. He then asked why they didn't intervene
when the three deputies were watching the whole time and saw that Jeff
was trying to run away from them but was forced into the lot by the boys
and only defended himself from them after being struck by a punch.
He waited for an explanation, one of the deputies tried to claim that he
assaulted the boys regardless of who struck first. Stan shook his head,
then proclaimed, "Try to arrest him and I'll have you explain to the
Attorney General's Office why you arrested the victim of an assault
witnessed by you while letting the assailants go. Then I'll have your
badge ripped from your uniform by the sheriff and you arrested for civil
rights violations. You have to know who he is so my gut tells me that
one of these boys is your son which makes what you're doing worse. So
either you arrest the boys this minute or I make the call to the
Attorney General. He would love to know why his dinner was canceled,
he's a big fan my work."
He let them make the next move, which was the deputy arresting Jeff. His
colleagues watched as Stan did as he stated then called the sheriff
personally to alert him of an impending state investigation. That got
the sheriff to react, with Stan asked to not destroy him for what,
"Those idiots" did.
Stan drove to the local sheriff's office and was told to leave or else
he would be arrested for trespassing which prompted him to call his
lawyer who then called his own brother to take on their case on behalf
of Jeff and Stan. Jeff was held in a cell out back among prisoners with
no segregation nor any attempt to call Sarah to tell her about what
happened, which the lawyers grew angry over and sought Jeff help. Stan
simply waited for the phone call from the Attorney General, explained
everything to him, then was told that help was en-route and that Stan
might have just helped the town by ridding it of vermin.
It was a tense evening as Jeff was refused meetings with his lawyer
while deputies tried to arrest each of the men as they waited patiently
in the lobby for the help. At 6 PM help finally arrived as he saw a
contingent of State Police troopers in uniform part outside while
another two people entered ahead of them. Stan was sought out with the
lawyers explaining what happened and why then the background of the
situation which got nods and a simple, "We'll handle it from here."
Stan watched as the troopers walked up to the desk, told the deputy to
release Jeff Cole immediately or be placed under arrest for unlawful
arrest and kidnapping, then waited for a reaction. The desk sergeant
nodded and led them inside then told the troopers, "I had no part in
this, I was only told that he was the one who beat-up the lieutenant's
sons. It's only the three who brought him in who're behind this."
The troopers were led to the holding cell and saw the sergeant telling
the deputy to release Jeff or else it was her head on a platter. The
deputy saw the anger in their eyes and complied, with the sergeant doing
his best to not grin as the woman was about to get fired. He casually
told the deputies, "She's shacking it up with the lieutenant, she'll
gladly tell you all about the lieutenant going after the kid."
She froze and tried to lie but her reaction told more than the words
could. The troopers led Jeff out and watched as he ran for Stan who told
him that he was going to be alright. The two were closer than just a
couple of neighbors, but none of them dared asked about the closeness as
Stan could end their careers.
One didn't have any issues with asking Stan the truth. He happily told
the inquirer, "He's my neighbor. I have been teaching him to box and get
into shape to box. If I may be so bold, his change in body is the reason
for the assault on him as the girls are noticing and talking about him-
all in flattering terms."
The troopers laughed as it was clearly jealousy by the boys which,
considering Jeff's smaller size, was a nasty shock to them. Girls
weren't into meatheads, the boys were about as dumb and bulky as you get
and had the benefit of the lieutenant looking out for them. Jeff was the
epitome of everything that they had been told to hate, and finally
becoming stronger, faster, more agile than them was a shock that none of
them could leave unanswered: he had to be taken out, even if it meant
Jeff going to jail.
The lieutenant arrived and demanded that the troopers leave. He stopped
in his tracks when he saw just who was there and why: the Attorney
General was with Stan and had Jeff with them. The lieutenant did his
best to look strong, but it was clear that he wasn't going to win
against the Attorney General.
The sheriff was in the corner trying hard to find the right words but
finally blurted out to the lieutenant, "I let this station run itself
because I thought that you were doing things right. I was wrong, you
have a station that is the laughingstock of the state. You're placed on
leave pending termination and are under arrest for kidnapping, assault,
unlawful detention, lying on police reports, and civil rights
violations."
The lieutenant growled that he was nothing without him, he paid for his
election and paid for all of the station's upgrades in exchange for his
job so was owed every penny if he dared to get rid of him. The Attorney
General grinned and asked if he just realized that not only had he
admitted to what amounted to bribing the sheriff to have a job but also
election fraud for buying an election and had just extorted the sheriff
in front of the Attorney General of the state as well as a group of
State Police troopers who were required to arrest him. That sent the
troopers into a laugh as he was arrested for fraud, bribery, and
extortion charges alongside the original charges that the lieutenant was
already facing.
The sheriff ordered Jeff's arrest record deleted, but first was told
that copies were made so that charges were retained against the
lieutenant. The sheriff then ordered the boys arrested, with troopers
joining a couple of trustworthy deputies to ensure that there were no
theatrics. Finally, after the boys were taken to the station, they were
given orders of protection barring them from harming Jeff again.
Sarah was afraid when she saw several police cruisers drove up and Jeff
was led out. She was about to beg them not to take her son away when
Stan came out of his own car and told her, "They're not here to take
Jeff away, they just drove him home so nobody went after us. He's fine,
just a little bruised."
Dinner was eaten, with little Jaimie giggling at Stan being there and
trying hard to get his attention. She got it, the elderly man couldn't
help but want to make her happy especially as she was so much like her
mother in her looks and spirit. Jaimie happily fell asleep in his lap,
with Sarah pleased that the little girl had taken to Stan and wanted to
be around him instead of crying as she usually did around strangers.
When the kids went to bed, Sarah asked what really happened and why.
Stan confessed to her, "He was targeted by a group of boys. I suspect
that they're the same boys who have gone after him for a while, it was
too coordinated and he seemed to know them too well. I knew that he'd be
OK but had to get a little closer. I saw three deputies watching the
fight then try to arrest Jeff. The lieutenant was doing the
coordinating, with it clear that his son was the leader of the boys and
the one who got the worst of the fight. Jeff knocked out his front teeth
when he knocked him out. I confronted the deputies then told the one
person that I could trust to help, I happened to have dinner with him
tonight so had to cancel and it came with him asking for an explanation.
He gave his support and got help rolling, with us going to the station
to get Jeff. The lieutenant ended up mouthing off to the sheriff when he
was arrested, with him in a lot more trouble with the state. Jeff did a
lot to help the county that the sheriff can't keep a lid on, it might
end up being that the sheriff is forced out of office now because of
what happened. Jeff is a hero, I know that my friend will ensure that
he's safe and nobody tries to take him away. They can't, you're a good
mother and so help me I'd rip this state apart to ensure that Jeff is
always with you."
She hugged him and cried into his shoulder, showing that he hit the
right chord with her. He felt for her, she was like a daughter to him
now since Jeff was like the grandson that he never got to meet. They had
his heart won over, all of them only had each other for support and felt
safe with one another.
The fallout from the arrests were immediate. Girls asked about Jeff's
bruises to which he told the truth. It was followed by the girls
laughing as the boys tried to act like it was no big deal when they went
to school after getting released from jail but none of the girls would
give them the time of day anymore.
Sarah had a free afternoon so went over to Stan's house to check on
Jeff. She crept in and was shocked to see her son moving so swiftly and
dodging punches from Stan while trying hard to concentrate on all of the
fists coming his way while enduring the occasional padded punch to the
face. Jeff looked like his father when he was the same age, with Sarah
shedding a tear over seeing his father shine through.
When Jaimie giggled and revealed their presence Jeff stopped, getting a
punch to the face by the still in the moment Stan who realized too late
that they weren't alone. Stan led them out so Jeff was able to do his
cool-down routine without feeling embarrassed. Jaimie grabbed onto Stan
and demanded attention so the two led her to Stan's office to talk while
Jeff finished.
Inside the office Sarah saw all of Stan's mementos of his time as a
wrestler. Seeing the man living large and looking powerful while facing
off against men who were bigger, stronger, and looked dangerous. It was
followed by Jaimie giggling at seeing the pictures of Stan without a
shirt and wearing a gown.
Stan waited for Sarah to speak, Sarah asked him it it was some joke: he
was Ice Box Stan Dallas- THE Ice Box! The coolest man in wrestling, the
ultimate tweener- neither friend nor foe to all. Stan was her father's
favorite wrestler and the man who inspired boys to become wrestlers when
she was a kid.
Stan shook his head and told her, "I never lied to you. I never hid that
I was a pro wrestler. I told you the truth. I didn't tell you how
successful I was nor did I tell you about after wrestling, just that I
wrestled."
She looked away in shame and asked if he was trying to make her son into
a pro wrestler like him. He shook his head and explained, "I only wanted
to live in peace, but meeting Jeff changed that. He is his own man, he
doesn't need me to guide him. I just wanted to help him defend himself
from the boys, I'd rather that he never goes into wrestling. He's his
own man, I'll help him if he wants to do that but it's a decision that's
his alone. I won't influence him, it's his own thing: he does it on his
own."
She shed tears and thanked him for being honest. She saw some pictures
that concerned her, she shed a tear and asked about one in particular:
one of his sons with his ex-wife. It hit a nerve in him but he had to
tell her the truth because lying to her was out of the question with
Jaimie begging for an answer too.
He steeled himself and explained, "Those are my sons and my wife. She
divorced me when they were three and four, after I was involved in the
infamous 'loser wears a dress' match in 1998. Jeff reminds me of my
elder son James, he was so independent and loved trying to help others.
I was always on the road, my wife and I raised the boys in my tour bus
with her going 'home' only on my tours of Europe and Asia. She was
supportive of my dressing but when it came time for me to do it in
public for a year she decided that I had taken it too far. She divorced
me, got full custody of the boys with the blessing of the judge, then
had them never speak about me again to anyone so that they'd have no
connection to me and the embarrassment that I was causing. She used my
dressing against me, they knew about it and supported me but my wife
grew jealous of me and wanted out. So we divorced. That photo was the
last one I have of them as my wife took everything: our home, half of my
contract up to the point of filing for divorce, and a percentage of my
contract until the boys turned 21. I haven't had a chance to contact
them since, she got a restraining order against me so I couldn't even
talk to them."
He was crying now, with Jaimie hugging him hoping to make him happy
again. Sarah looked away in shame, then told him, "Jimmy and I dated
after he moved to town. His mother was a bitch to me, but it was love at
first sight for us. Steve teased us about it but it wasn't a big deal to
Jimmy. I loved him, he was the greatest man to me and my friends and
made me a happy woman."
Stan realized what she was saying, Sarah continued, "We dated throughout
high school and into college. I earned my degree but had to forgo work
because I got pregnant with Jeff. I helped Jimmy with work but I spent
much of my time with Jeff. He was an architect after he gave up pro
wrestling, he wanted to hedge his bets in case he wasn't able to find a
job in one but used both together a lot of the time after he was hired
at a firm in Kansas City. He did a lot of work for the company,
especially with designs for schools that needed to do renovations on a
budget to meet basic standards. I hope Jeff takes after him, he's just
so creative. Jimmy was a great athlete but he had a creative mind inside
his handsome body."
She smiled at the idea, then continued, "Jimmy died taking me to the
hospital as you know. He wasn't aware that I was pregnant, I had issues
before and thought that it was something else. It turned out that I had
gotten Jimmy killed! If I hadn't eaten a burrito from the fast food
place near us I would still have my beloved Jimmy! I got your son
killed! He died because of me!"
Stan hugged her and cried alongside her. He softly mumbled, "I know my
Jimmy and he wouldn't do it unless he felt that you were having issues.
He's no fool, he knows not to gamble with health. He knew a few
wrestlers who ignored their health and died because of it. He wanted you
to be safe, even if it's a laugh from the doctors. You didn't get him
killed, the idiot drunk driver did. It's not your fault."
She mumbled, "It's still my fault. I couldn't wait. I knew that he had
food ready at home but wasn't able to help myself. Jeff is lucky that he
didn't like their food, he would have died alongside Jimmy. It's all my
fault, I'm sorry Stan- I got your son killed."
Jaimie hugged Stan hoping that he wouldn't hurt her mother. He looked
down at her and smiled at the little girl trying to appease him but not
needing to. He firmly told her, "He was hardheaded, he'd force a trip to
the hospital to be sure even if he had to put you over his shoulder.
He's stubborn, always was."
He asked about the name Jaimie. She looked at the little girl then
explained, "She's named after one of Jimmy's friend's nieces. She's
infamous in Kansas City, she brought down an entire county and made a
town break apart because she needed to be a girl. Even years later she
was still infamous for all of the right reasons. Jimmy liked her
determination and his friend spoke of her with love and affection. It
was fitting for her, she's her father's daughter even if they never met.
I couldn't help but want to honor him and that little girl, even if I
hear she's a woman now."
Stan knew the truth: she was more than just a little girl- she was a
woman who helped hundreds by her family's wealth and determination to
have justice for people who needed help. Jaimie would have to be a
literal saint to live up to the name, but her namesake wouldn't accept
anything but her best. There's a lot to live up to, but Jaimie would
only want the little girl to be herself and make Sarah proud.
Stan asked about the move. Sarah looked upset and proclaimed, "Jimmy's
mother Jane threatened us if we didn't leave town. She blamed me for
Jimmy's death, then claimed that I had an affair that Jimmy was aware of
and tried to hide. She never liked me, she has hated anyone who tried to
get close to 'her baby boys'. Steve ignored her after he graduated
college, Jimmy tried to be good to her but she kept all of her venom
away from him so he never knew just how nasty she was to me. She called
social services on me a couple of times so I had to leave or have Jeff
and Jaimie taken away, they believed her claims and threatened me with
jail unless I got out of town and never contacted Jane again. I left.
Steve helped me find a place to live up here and told me that it was
best to let Jane be all alone, she couldn't accept that her baby boy was
dead and would hurt us to get back at me for what someone else did to
him."
Stan asked if they should break the news to Jeff, Jeff angrily told him,
"You don't have to. Mom, why'd you do that? Why'd you make him think
that we're family! Grandma said that grandpa was dead! Dad said that we
shouldn't bug him. Stan isn't my grandpa!"
He was in tears. Stan got up and showed him something that he kept
private: pictures of him with Steve and Jimmy then of him and Jane. Jeff
looked upset to which Stan explained, "Your grandmother hated me for
being a better looking woman than her. She grew to resent my feminine
side and when I had to be a female for a year she couldn't hide her hate
any longer. I tried to be a good husband, but the time to end our
marriage had finally come. She told all of you lies to keep you from
trying to find me. It's all of her jealousy and bitterness coming
forward. She isn't a good person, she hates that you're Jimmy's son and
you look like me. I mean it when I say that: you're my spitting image.
Your father is one of the best looking guys around and your uncle was
jealous that he was easily better at being me than Steve. I know that
she told you those lies to get you angry at me, please don't be. I loved
your father, but Jane is a tough woman to get around. Your father loved
me and kept me away to protect you. He knew that I'd be there for all of
you when the time came, Steve was probably steered to send you up here
to be close to me in case I was needed. I was needed, just not in the
way they thought. I'm your grandfather and I won't let you three get
away from me. You're my family, and I'm happy to be that to you now."
Jeff gave in to his feelings and hugged Stan tight. Jaimie happily said,
"Grampy" which he loved hearing from the little girl. Sarah was in tears
and asked if she could call him, "Dad" since he was her father-in-law
and deserved to be called that. He nodded silently, it would please him
greatly to be that to her.
The trio were given a tour of the house beyond the rooms that Jeff had
been in. There were bedrooms in the upper two floors that were empty and
hadn't been touched in years while the basement was big and featured
more of Stan's workout equipment- stuff that Jeff was too young for but
he'd be able to use in the upcoming years when his doctor cleared him
for it. The final rooms were in the attic and made the female in Sarah
smile as it was clearly meant for a little girl but hadn't been touched
in years.
Stan asked if they were alright, Sarah explained that it was a beautiful
house but was upset that he kept away from it in favor of the cabin.
Stan looked away in shame and explained, "It's just not home to me. I
hoped that one day Jimmy and Steve would move here so all of us could be
together, but that's never going to happen. Steve is his own man, Jimmy
is dead. I hope that you three will move here but that's entirely up to
you. I won't make you, I just hope that you'll accept me as family."
Sarah happily told him, "We'll move here. It's bigger than our house and
Jeff would benefit from being so close to you. Jaimie could use her own
room and I know that she'll love the attic when she's older. I think she
already likes it, she eyed it closer and liked how pink it was."
Jaimie blushed at getting caught. Stan happily told her, "That can be
your playroom. If your brother gets to play downstairs then you can play
upstairs. Plus I'd rather she feel at home with us."
Jaimie hugged him again, showing that she got what she wanted. Jeff
asked if he was too young for the big machines, Stan nodded and added,
"I don't like developing kids to workout heavily. It's tough to be a
growing boy and deal with injuries to your muscles. You could severely
hurt yourself, I want you to wait until you're 15 or 16 first before you
start intensive training. By then, your heart will either be in it or
you're doing it for looks. Either way, you're not using anything until
the doctor clears you."
Sarah drove them back to her house and planned the move. Stan asked that
she keep their connection a secret for now, he didn't want any vultures
to use Sarah against him or have kids trying to get close to a
grandchild of a famous person. She agreed and added that she had to tell
the school because he'd be the only person who could be called if
something happened to Jeff in school or Sarah was unable to care for the
duo- the only alternative was sending them to live with Jane and that
wasn't an option anymore.
The two hammered it out quickly and saw Sarah blushing as she was told
that she should sell her house and keep the money for her kids, with her
unable to refute that as the money that she used to buy it had come from
the life insurance and lawsuit settlement against the drunk driver. Stan
had his lawyers do a quick trust fund for the kids that kept the money
away from Jane and forced Jane to show that they had no right to claim
the money, which would entail a DNA test and fighting Stan over the
claims. Jane had no way of refuting things and with Stan supporting
Sarah there was no way to go after Sarah legally.
The move caused eyebrows to raise as Stan was a loner who kept tom
himself but taking in Sarah and a couple of kids was shocking to them.
Stan ignored the grumblings about her taking advantage of him, it was
the usual gibberish that people made up to go after people whom they
were jealous of and had no shot of ever actually getting to know Stan as
Sarah had done. Even if they weren't family to him, he'd had considered
her a daughter and Jeff and Jaimie as his grandchildren so it was
natural to him to let all of them move in with him and give him
companionship.
At the school, Sarah explained to principal Otis Pyle about what was
happening and why. Seeing Stan standing with Jaimie in his arms asleep
made Otis hold off commenting, he didn't dare upset the big, strong, and
clearly upset Stan. When she told him just why she was so close to Stan
Otis nearly fainted as Stan had a strong resemblance to Jaimie, with
Sarah telling him that Jaimie was more like her Jimmy and Jeff was
actually the one who took after Stan in looks- just like his father did.
Stan explained that he wouldn't be used by the school in any way and
that claims about him and Jeff at home were got to be all lies. He then
added, "I know that some will claim the worst of me, my lawyers know the
truth and I have told the sheriff and Attorney General about our
relationship before we found out that I'm Jeff's grandfather. I'd like
you to ask if it was wrong for a boy to learn for his grandfather,
especially as it's a common trait among kids to work alongside their
grandfather to learn things their dad won't teach or in the case of
many- can't teach."
He asked when he could reveal the truth about their relationship. Stan
insisted that they treat it like he's Jeff's landlord and nothing more
but if things got too dicey then the truth had to be told. He hated that
it might happen, but knowing how people could be he was ready for the
truth to come out.
After school, Jeff was taken to his doctor for an exam. The doctor made
note of his growth and how he had put on a lot of muscle in only two
months. Jeff blushed in embarrassment but wouldn't tell how he had grown
so much in so short a time especially as he was considered a, "Shrimp"
by the town.
Sarah grinned and told the doctor, "Jeff has been training with a former
boxer. Since the local karate and kung fu academies won't accept him as
a student he had to learn to defend himself elsewhere. He's had his
grandfather teach him. You know him- Stan Dallas, the former wrestler?"
The doctor wasn't impressed and demanded the truth. Stan stepped inside
when he heard the man raise his voice to Sarah, demanding an
explanation. When he was told, Stan shot back, "She told you the truth
about my grandson. His father was my younger son James Cole. Cole is my
real surname- not Dallas."
He shook his head and asked, "I was a champion boxer before I wrestled.
I spent years in the sport and I learned how to do everything- train,
spar, fix injuries, and fight. What is wrong with my grandson and a
sport that is needed due to a need to defend himself? He wears proper
equipment and isn't in the ring to fight anyone. He's too young for
that, but I'm still teaching him the basics."
The doctor was put off by, "Barbaric" sports. Stan asked if he was aware
that it's safer than football and baseball which he could see awards on
the wall from, to which the doctor tried to deflect. Stan asked if he
was aware that he was breaking ethics by forcing his own views on
patients especially with his own kids participating in worse sports.
Then he asked if it was because he himself wasn't that good at it or
hadn't participated in it himself and as such had no idea about the
dangers- real or imaginary.
The doctor refused to sign off on it. Stan nodded to Sarah who informed
the doctor that her son wasn't going to be a patient there anymore and
that she'd seek care elsewhere. Stan then added, "I'm aware of a couple
of doctors nearby who have no qualms about sports and don't scoff at
learning them. I believe that you only ended up with Jeff Cole as a
patient because he was new to town and his mother didn't have the chance
to find a better doctor. Being in town isn't a positive anymore, not if
you're going to be detrimental to a patient's care and force your
ignorant opinions on your patients without asking."
Stan had a doctor ready to take Jeff as a patient, with the doctor
reading the notes on Jeff and trying to not swear over what he was
reading. He then asked a few questions about Jeff's diet and exercising
the past few months then of his training. Finally looking at the
previous exams he asked if Jeff was aware that he was in the midst of a
growth spurt that normally came as part of puberty causing Jeff to blush
as it was clear to them that the boy was actually growing larger because
of the normal change of life- not due to the workouts that had only just
recently started.
Gathering his wits, the doctor proclaimed, "You're growing as you
should. You're normal and are just a late bloomer. You're 13, I can see
the start of growth all over you. Your muscles are getting bigger but I
am certain that it was helped along. You're awkward but it was a phase
that you're countering with all of the training. You are fine to
continue on to actual in-ring action if you want, just wear headgear and
try to avoid black eyes. It's unavoidable, but as long as it's known
that you're training then you should be safe from unwanted
investigations. And you can begin strength training if you like, you're
going to be growing bigger and stronger so it's a good time to workout
anyway."
He asked if there were any other issues. Jeff was reluctant to admit it
but Sarah explained, "He has done a lot of dressing as a girl. I was
hoping that it's a phase but it has only gotten stronger."
The doctor nodded and gave her a referral to a specialist so that Jeff
could talk with a psychiatrist about it to see if there was more to it
than just dressing. Stan assured Sarah that it was for the best, they'd
be able to get answers and if Jeff was a girl they'd help Jeff. She was
upset at the idea, but Jeff firmly told them, "I'm not a girl. I know
that there's girls like that, I looked online about it. I'm not a girl,
I just like to dress as one. I don't want to change myself, I know that
I'm a man now and not a woman."
The next day saw them going to Bangor to visit the psychiatrist. He
wanted background information on Stan and his relationship with Jeff,
hoping that Jeff wasn't being manipulated by Stan or that Stan had a
hand in Jeff trying to be someone else. The doctor was supposed to look
for answers, even if it did seem to be a bit off-putting and insulting
to Stan and Jeff that Jeff might have done it to please Stan.
Jeff looked down in shame and confessed, "I started when we lived in
Kansas City. Dad knew about it, I was caught by him once when I thought
that I was alone. Dad didn't freak out, he told me that I wasn't alone
and others did the same. He confessed that he and Uncle Steve did it
when they were young and it was something that their mother hated. He
wouldn't say why, I guess it had to do with Grandpa. I did it at home
and only at home, with dad telling me that he was happy for me even if I
felt bad about it."
Sarah looked upset at never realizing it was going on. Jeff added, "I
hid it from mom. Dad got me a few outfits to wear so I wasn't wearing
mom's things. She never found them, I hid them when we moved, I had them
at home but couldn't ever wear them. Mom doesn't know about them,
grandpa had outfits for me to wear so I didn't need to take my old ones
over to the cabin. I haven't had a chance to wear them, I wanted to wear
them but I was too busy trying to learn to box to dress as a girl
again."
The doctor asked about his feelings while dressed. Jeff was in tears and
told him, "I just liked to feel as if I was someone else. I loved
feeling like a girl. I just like being feminine and looking like a girl.
Mom hasn't seen what I look like, I'm careful to never do it around
Jaimie. It's hard to explain to her why her brother looks like her
sister, she's too young to understand."
The doctor asked about the name. Sarah explained it to which the doctor
laughed hard. He happily told them, "I know the woman hat you named your
daughter after. She's an amazing woman. She's one of a handful of people
to permanently improve the lives of hundreds of kids and adults."
Sarah asked about her, to which the doctor explained, "She's a loving
person. There's no better way to describe her except as loving. She's
smart, compassionate, and insightful. She's trying to become the newest
psychiatrist specializing transgender children- something she knows a
lot about, she is one. It's a big boon our world having her involved, I
have helped several children due to her family and will be able to help
many more as they attend college at the University of Maine."
He concluded their session with a powerful, "You aren't transgender.
It's not a crime to want to be a part of the fairer sex. Gender is
something that is hard to understand, male and female isn't set in
stone. You are understanding of females and love looking like one and
want to experience their appearance, but it is more than evident that
you are male inside. You are a crossdresser, one with an empathy for
women. I know that it's hard to deal with, but there's a lot that you
can learn from being a woman at times."
After they left, the doctor smiled inwardly as his future colleague had
helped yet another young kid be the person that they are and all it cost
was some gasoline. She was someone who wasn't intending to be a help to
others but she had helped a family in trouble just by knowing others who
knew her. Jeff would be alright from then on, he knew the truth and
Sarah was supportive of his dressing.
Back at home, the kids were fed and put to bed. Jaimie refused to leave
Stan's arms and fell asleep in them as her body gave up. Jeff was tired
from the anxiety, he slept in his old nightgown with Sarah had to see
for herself. It was pretty and clearly meant for young girls, but Jeff
made it look cute on him.
She shed tears as she saw his hidden stash of clothes for the first
time. They were a mix of skirts and a few t-shirts that were hastily
tossed inside a drawer. She did the respectful thing and hung up in
Jeff's closet so that they wouldn't get ruined, giving him peace of mind
once he went looking for them.
The next morning saw Sarah tell Jeff that she had put away his girl
clothes so they weren't ruined. He was about to say something to which
she happily explained, "I want your clothes to last longer, maybe even
get passed on to your sister when she gets older. They're yours, you
don't have to hide them from me. I'd prefer that you dress here and
enjoy being yourself than hold it in anymore. I don't mind doing a few
mother/daughter things with you, like doing your makeup."
He blushed and explained to her, "Grandpa showed me. He was showing me
how to make myself look a bit older. He wouldn't let me wear bras, he
said that I'm too young."
Sarah hugged him to calm him then explained, "Be that as it may, I'd
still like to have a girl talk so that you know what's appropriate for
what situation. You need to know for when you're on your own, even if
you don't go anywhere. If you choose to go out, you need to blend in.
I'm sure your grandpa agrees."
Stan tried to hide his shame but mumbled, "She's right. I didn't think
that you'd need to learn that, but I guess it's a good thing that I
didn't teach you- it's something a mother should teach. I learned it
from a few ladies in Thailand during a tour, I 'lost a bet' with them
and had to get a makeover. The guys had a field day with me, but the
ladies seemed to get that I enjoyed it. It came in handy when I had to
dress as a woman for a year. Sadly, your grandmother probably flipped
out and was angry at me for doing it."
The two nodded and saw Sarah add, "She really hates you. I guess it's
because you look so great as your female self. She's not that good
looking and hasn't aged well, she was beautiful when she was younger but
having Steve and Jimmy took a toll on her body. She puts on way too much
makeup and tries to be a big shot with men but can't get anyone to date
her for long: it's her, not them that's the problem!"
Sarah spent all day helping Jeff learn how to apply the right makeup for
the right situations then had to hide her glee as he asked the right
questions about things that most girls wouldn't consider. She had the
time of her life teaching Jeff, it was great practice for when Jaimie
turned 12 and needed to learn.
Jaimie latched onto Stan and had him play with her up in her playroom.
Stan had no problem playing, it was sweet and gave him a sense of
happiness to be close to the little girl. She smiled as she played, she
loved having someone close to her who she didn't really know and who
loved her a lot.
Jaimie hugged and kissed Stan, calling him grandpa frequently. Stan
seemed to know that she was just trying to talk like the adults and it
came to her easily instead of other words. Stan tried to get her to say
other words but all she wanted to say was grandpa, with her happily
giggling over his failures.
When Jeff and Sarah went looking for them she happily waddled over to
Jeff and calling him, "Sissy" to which he got upset. Sarah happily told
him, "She meant sister, as in you're her sister. She seems to know that
you're not her brother while dressed like that."
Jeff went to go change and as soon as he reappeared in his boy clothes
Jaimie giggled and said, "Butter" which had to mean, "Brother" in her
mind. He understood what Sarah meant, with her adding, "She's just under
two-years-old, she can understand girls and boys and knows you aren't
the same dressed as a girl vs. when you're dressed as a boy. She's OK
with you being both, but it might be a problem later on."
Time passed and saw Stan becoming a fixture in Jeff's life as the two
would go into town together to do some errands and spend some "guy time"
together away from Jaimie and Sarah. Stan talked with him as if he was
an equal and enjoyed the companionship, so much so that the two never
noticed that they were being observed by multiple people. His being
close caused a stir, something wasn't right and there were a lot of,
"Concerned citizens" who wanted to get the scoop on Stan to sell to the
tabloid and media.
After a week, the two were confronted in school by "concerned" parents.
Stan shook his head and told the group, "Do you have a problem with me
taking my grandson into town on business? I don't see any of you being
concerned when other families do that."
Stan knew that one would say that he wasn't his grandson as Stan had no
kids. Stan shook his head and angrily shot back, "He is most definitely
my grandson. He's the son of my younger son James Cole, who was killed
seven months before the birth of his daughter. His widow is Jeff's
mother Sarah Cole, it's a shock to all of you because you believed that
she had both children out of wedlock- a view based only on your own
ignorance. I know for a fact that he's my grandson, I have seen his
birth certificate and her marriage license. I know my son's signature, I
know his date of birth and social security number. She's his widow and
this boy is my grandson. Hell, he's the spitting image of me at the same
age!"
He cut off others by adding, "For supposed smart people, you never did
your homework. My legal name is Stanford Dallas Cole. I go by Stan
Dallas as a ring and stage name and own the rights to the name as I
created it. Every one of my contracts have been in my legal name, I only
acted in my stage name due to being known by that. My music, writing,
and producing credits were all in my legal name. You can go check it in
a bit as I know some of you don't believe me. Few call me by legal name,
even fewer do it who are involved in the wrestling or entertainment
business. I'm Stan Dallas to the world, but I have never presented
myself legally as anyone buy Stan Cole. It isn't hard to believe that
someone who has had an extremely private life would have family who
wasn't known. Jeff and his mother have kept to themselves like I have,
by pure luck they lived next to me and reunited me with my son's
family."
He took a second to gather his wits and further added, "My private life
is my own life. I don't have to be anything but myself. My grandson is
the same way, he's his own man and chooses to be his own man. I am
extremely proud of him and happy that he is trying to be the best man
that he can be. He isn't one of those kids who sits back and lets others
do all of the work, and doesn't take things laying down. I'm proud that
he's a Cole and honors his father's memory by being one of the best men
you can meet."
He walked off to murmurs and whispers. He hit them hard and caused their
claims to be looked at from another angle. Stan had got a huge one over
on the town and all he did was tell the truth to them.
In school the next day Jeff was treated better. He had interest from
boys who usually avoided him, but he knew full well that it was only
because they wanted access to Stan. He ignored them, only talking to a
few boys whom he was on good terms with and whom he actually liked.
The girls started to eye him differently as a couple tried to get close
to him to gain a higher standing in their school. He brushed them off,
preferring to talk with a few girls who were always good to him and whom
he had a crush on. They were invited over his house to work on
schoolwork, with the guys who he had started to befriend coming along as
well so they could do a group project together.
A group of eight 13-year-olds caught Stan by surprise but he happily
greeted them. Jeff was reminded of his workout so had to delay their
work, with the others waiting on him to finish while watching him
closely. He knew not to rush things, so he endured the usual workout but
had Stan going easy on him.
Jeff's body caused the girls to blush as his muscles were on display and
they were whispering about a clear bulge in his shorts. One girl, Mila
Bates, was getting so heated that she had to leave for a bit to calm
herself. It only led to Mila getting corralled by Jaimie who insisted on
playing wit her until Stan could takeover after Jeff's workout was
finished.
The boys felt inadequate watching him, he could easily hurt them if
upset so it was agreed that they'd never anger him so as to avoid a
beating. Jeff was actually a little smaller than them physically but his
strength was clear as he dented the heavy bag from his punches. The more
they watched the more that it was clear that Jeff had really done what
was claimed of him when he was in the infamous fight a few weeks before
and had nearly beaten the school's bully to a pulp before getting
overwhelmed.
When he finished he rushed upstairs to shower then change. He had to
find his sister to relieve Mila of her playing with Jaimie and thanked
her for being good to Jaimie. Mila blushed and thanked him for letting
them come by, then kissed him quickly before realizing what she had just
done.
Jeff didn't react, Stan was watching so walked downstairs while Mila was
left to apologize for doing that. Stan didn't admonish her, he could
only say, "He might feel the same way bu you have to give him time. You
don't recover from bullying easily, he doesn't know if you're sincere or
trying to get at me. I think you might actually have feelings for him,
otherwise you wouldn't have watched Jaimie for him."
She didn't say anything, but it was clear that she did actually like
Jeff more than as a friend. The others were friends but Mila was a
girlfriend. Jeff would have to see it himself, but it was a start for
them.
Downstairs, all eight started work and went at it for two hours before
the kids had to go home. Jeff had to blush as he was kissed on the lips
by Mila, with her telling him that he's better than what the other kids
in school believed. He didn't have a chance to react, he kissed her back
and told her, "Thank you for that, I hope that we're able to ace this
project and hope to work with you some more in the future."
She blushed and left while the other boys slapped him on the back to
show that it was the start of being a couple for him. The other girls
hugged him with one telling him, "She likes you a lot. She has been in a
haze around you for months. Don't blow it, go for her!"
The next day he asked her out on a date, to which she gasped at and
agreed to. The girls ran off to talk about it while the boys slapped him
on the back. Stan stood proud, his grandson had jumped into being a man
and all it took was a little accidental interference from Jaimie and the
girls.
Jeff enjoyed the evening as a girl, with Sarah gushing over her baby boy
getting a date with a girl. She wasn't happy that he had girls over but
understood that there wasn't anything possible being done due to Jaimie
and Stan being there. It still stung that she wasn't home at the time to
supervise them, she told the duo that anytime girls were over she had to
be there too so that boys didn't do anything mature.
Jeff nearly fainted while Stan agreed and apologized for not thinking
about that. Jeff was, "Punished" by Sarah by being told the birds and
the bees and ensured that he understood everything and nothing that he
did was left to chance. He learned what he was and wasn't allowed to do
while on a date, with him all but screaming that he wouldn't do anything
because he didn't want to blow his chance with her.
Jeff learned a few things during his "punishment" alongside the birds
and the bees: hair care, washing a baby, changing diapers, laundry, and
what clothes to wear for certain occasions. Stan happily let Sarah teach
the latter, it was something that mom and son needed to talk about as
she got him ready for what was a milestone for him: dating. She ensured
that he looked smart but not too overly dressed, a perfect look for a
teenager out on the town with a girl who was likely wearing the same
style.
The funny part of it all was Jeff was wearing a dress and had his hair
in a ponytail. Sarah suppressed a smile as it was like talking with her
daughter, but it was really her son there. She hugged Jeff and gave a
kiss on his cheek which he winced at getting, she happily told him,
"You're a great daughter even if I know you're my son. I hope that I'm
able to have these talks with Jaimie when she's older, but she's a
little different than you. She's a lot like your father, you're like me.
I'm happy that a piece of him still lives on through her, I know it's
tough to think about him but you're him in body and unfortunately she is
him in her personality. I guess it's why we get along so well and why
she always fights us when she's in a mood, your dad was the same way:
it's something he picked up from your grandfather but don't tell him
that I said that about him- even if it's true, they're all stubborn
mules."
The date got a buzz from the kids at school but Jeff ignored it. His new
friends were supportive and did their best to keep the two focused. When
the date finally happened, the two were so nervous that it was almost a
disaster for them as neither could speak and tried hard to not get too
close to the other.
The date ended with the two kissing, he tried to apologize but she shed
a tear and told him that he tried his best to be a gentleman. She tried
to do the same but he told her that she was trying to treat him like a
guy and that she wasn't ready to go further than holding hands and
kissing goodbye. The two were at an impasse but it was for the best
reasons: they were trying not push things, they weren't ready yet to go
beyond being close to one another but were clearly a couple.
