Laurie did not think that she would sleep, but the moment her head hit the pillows it seemed that the last couple of days hit her, and she was effectively dead to the world.
She was so deep into sleep that she did not even dream – or certainly no dreams that she could remember, when she was awoken the next morning – by the same woman who had shown her to this room.
“Mr Richards suggested that you would like to take some breakfast in your room and then freshen up and get dressed.” she indicated a tray of covered dishes and plates along with a talk silver coffee jug and cup.
“I am to come back for you in two hours, Mr Richards instructed – that will be eleven thirty - ish.”
The young woman smiled sweetly at her.
“Mr Richards said to warn you that this estate is cross wired with security, so it would be best not to wander around on your own at the moment.”
“Why not just lock me in then?” Laurie muttered sourly.
“Oh no miss ... Mr Richards was adamant that both you and your father are to be made to feel like his honoured guests.”
“Hmm.” Laurie could not keep the scepticism out of her voice.
After the woman left, Laurie threw back the covers and padded across to the tray of food, the truth was she was absolutely famished. The half night’s sleep that she had enjoyed had revived her body, mind and spirit, and she had a sneaking feeling that today, people were going to try and make decisions on her fate, on her behalf – and she was damned if she was going to just stand there and meekly accept their dictates!
When the woman returned, she had Laurie’s father Greg with her.
“If you would both like to follow me, I shall take you down to the drawing room, where Mr Richards is waiting there for you.”
Though she didn’t say as much Laurie had the impression that ‘Mr Richards’ was waiting impatiently for them and would have been more than happy to have them running down the stairs.
Laurie smiled sweetly at the woman. “I’m feeling a little chilly ... I’ll just get my cardigan and powder my nose ... wash my hands ... I will be right with you.”
“Laurie,” her father’s tone was a warning tone, but Laurie just smiled at him too.
“I shall only be a sec ... honest.” She nipped across to her bathroom, and closed the door on the two of them.
Laurie leaned back against the door and closed her eyes whilst she counted slowly to one hundred, and then she gave a little sigh, and walked to the wash basin where she gave her hands a quick wash.
She checked her reflection in the mirror critically.
Her long golden blond hair, was freshly washed and combed. Her skin which was devoid of makeup was clear and although she had tired shadows under her eyes still, they just served to make her blue eyes darker.
There was nothing left to keep her in there, and so with a little shrug she smoothed down the pale blue dress that she has picked out of the pile of clothing, which has been put in her room at some point.
The dress fell down around her knees and the little white hearts that broke up the blue had called out to her.
It was a dress and it would do for her needs for today.
She walked back into the room and her father shot her a look of impatience, but neither of them commented when she strolled across to the bed and picked up the little white cardigan that she had left there earlier.
“Ok, we are ready now – so lead on,” she said to the woman – Marissa, Laurie vaguely remembered.
As they followed her down the sweep of stairs, Greg touched Laurie’s arm gently. “Try not to be too obnoxious daughter dear – remember we seek allies here not enemies.”
“Yes, daddy, I will try to be good,” Laurie said meekly.
Greg snorted – not fooled for a moment with her show of submissiveness. “Not good, Laurie – civil will do.”
The drawing room was not a small comfy affair but rather a large room with several tables and chairs, and sofa’s scattered around. Bill Frawnings was sat at one set of table and chairs just under the tall glass doors, that led outside to a large square patio.
He stood up to greet them as they entered, and Bill smiled at the two of them guardedly.
“What are you doing here?” Laurie asked without thinking.
“I told your father – when I met up with him earlier, that I intended to make a formal complaint about your actions. Your fraudulent bonding with my nephew caused him a lot of distress and humiliation amongst our pack, and then your actions which led to his serious injury – and you just left him there – perhaps to die!”
“Oh, don’t be ridiculous!” Laurie snapped impatiently. “I know damned well that we were being watched as we crossed that road to cut across that field, I know that within the hour someone would have gone out looking for us. And it was only his ankle for crying out loud. He could have hopped or hobbled back if he was desperate enough ... as I was desperate because of your sons’ actions earlier in the day.”
“Now, now, Laurie,” Bill stuttered. “Your aunt and I have already made an agreement not to press charges on that matter.
“That was an agreement with you and my aunt. I was the victim, and if chose to follow up on it – I am pretty sure my family will support me.”
“Ah good I can see that the two of you are beginning to talk sensibly.” Jonathon said from behind them.
Bill turned to look at Jonathon and a look of respect and fear filled his eyes.
“Mr Richards – it was good of you to invite us to your home. My boys and me have been made to feel very welcome.”
“That is good to hear, and your rooms – you are all in the north wing – are you not. Your rooms are adequate?”
“Yes, oh yes,” he grinned ingratiatingly. “My boys have never seen or experienced such luxury before, they were quite overcome when we first got here.”
Jonathon narrowed his eyes thoughtfully but whatever those thoughts were, he chose not to share them with any of his present guests.
“Very well then, shall we proceed with things, and see if we can reach some sort of agreement?”
He sat down at the table and looked pointedly at the other chairs.
“Take a seat all of you – I would guess that we will be here a little while at least.”
Laurie sat next to her father and facing Bill. She deliberately placed herself so that she would not have to be directly in the line of sight of Jonathon. He would have turn to look at her, and she was sure that she was not that interesting to look at.
Jonathon looked around at each of them before fixing his keen metallic eyes on Bill. “Now then to business...”
Bill watched as Laurie walked away with her father an hour later. He gave a sigh of open regret and then looked at Jonathon
“I suppose that it was the right thing to do,” he said sombrely. “to concede no harm and no foul on either side and let bygones be bygones ... but I just do not know what I am going to do about my boys.”
“You have left them to run wild, with little guidance, my friend; and that is starting to catch up with you all.”
“Yes, I know ... but when my wife died, I just did not have the heart for it. To find a new mate, the whole idea of making a family home and so on – it just ... it was just too hard ... too much.”
“I do understand you know. Michael was just a teenager when his mother died, but sometimes we have to keep going if only for them.”
“I suppose ... but now I guess I am too late even for that.”
Jonathon rubbed his nose as he studied the man across from him. “I don’t know ... perhaps we need to find them some sort of grooming – like a finishing school ... something to reunite them with their humanity and teach them some good manners...” He smiled in reassurance suddenly. “Enjoy my home and its amenities for a few days and I shall have a think on what’s best to be done.”
“You mean you will help us?” Bill looked almost like he might cry for a moment.
Jonathon smiled as he stood over the other man. “Of course, my friend – this is part of my job after all – sorting other people’s problems.”
Mathew strolled into his small private study, just as Jonathon was pouring himself a drink.
“Can I get you anything?” He asked, holding up the bottle.”
Mathew rubbed the back of his head irritably. “Yes please, I have been trying to talk to that, Rowena woman again, but she’s not having any of it ... I think I might take great delight in throttling that woman at some point soon.”
“Why are you bothering yourself with her?” Jonathon asked putting the bottle down and walking across to where his brother stood. “I have managed to contact that doctor who treated Greg Beaumont, and he’s due to arrive sometime later tomorrow. Our best bet for knowledgeable answers is surely the expert?”
“Well that is good news,” Mathew said. “But I just can’t help thinking that she is hiding something – and it is starting to pique my interest.”
Jonathon laughed. “I think you need to get out on your own for a bit. Why don’t you take one of the cars and drive down to the cottage and take a few days?”
Mathew thought about it, about walking across the small private beach, and just pottering for a while. But then he sighed and shook his head. “No, I shall stay and see this thing out I think.”
“Oh, well if I can’t get you to take some time off ... perhaps you could do another little job for me?”
“Sure, what do you need?”
Mathew’s response was automatic and expected.
“I just need to get a couple of documents and a parcel to Seline, and I need her to get them today ideally.”
“Seline? I haven’t seen her for years. Does she still reside on that farm and run that orphanage?”
“Yes, the girl’s refuge. I spoke to her a couple of days ago and she said she had a few jobs that needed a strong man to do them. She asked me for my help but I am tied up here ... So, I would take a few casual clothes with you.”
“Sounds like fun.” Mathew said ruefully.
“Go and pack some things from your rooms here, and I’ll sort out those documents and the parcel.”
Mathew regarded Jonathon thoughtfully for a moment, as he walked across the room, sat down and bent his head to his task.
Mathew had always lived in his brother’s shadow to a certain degree.
Jonathon was the first born, the taller, the broader the stronger – the strongest of them all, now and before – if the truth was to be told.
Jon had been a forgone conclusion to joining the council of elders after their own father’s demise.
And once on the council it was not long before his natural strength, and intelligence propelled him to being leader of that council.
Mathew suspected that the other elders preferred it this way too, since it was Jonathon who had to deal with the tiresome task of the people and their petty problems.
He had been granted the grandest house and estate, and position, but the cost was that any and all could demand an audience to petition for whatever they felt was due – a wrongness, a feud. Injuries or harms or just some assistance. Whatever they wanted then Jon would have to hear them out and then make a judgement.
Mathew who had strength and power in his own right should have also been on the council, but the rule was only one elder from any pack.
He had sort of become an honorary elder over the years though, allowed in on most of the meetings but with no voice.
He was present when decisions were made but with no vote, although he and Jonathon were always of the same mind. And when it came down to it, Jonathon’s vote always carried great weight with the others, and they usually just followed his lead – as long it did not upset or interfere with their lifestyles. And then it would fall to Jonathon and his brother to implement those decisions.
It was well understood that Mathew was fundamentally Jon’s right-hand man, but the council of elders also felt it their right to send him of on the occasional ‘errands’.
If the truth was known Mathew preferred it this way too.
He had been sent all over the world in his time, and wherever he went, he took the power of the council with him.
Amongst his own kind he was often welcomed like royalty – and feared like the grim reaper come a calling.
For more than twenty years now Mathew had roamed far and wide, always on council business – but also it was always with a sense of searching.
He rubbed the back of his head and winced as he felt the painful ridging of the scar buried beneath that white streak of hair.
“Okay Jon, I shall go off and bail out the fair Seline ... But I absolutely refuse to reside with those teenage monsters that she is so determined to mother.”
Jonathon laughed as he glanced up. “Fear not brother of mine, Seline would not let you anywhere near her ‘young ladies’! She has those guest cabins. I am sure she will put you in one of those for your stay.”
Mathew was so used to taking off at the drop of a hat, of gathering together what he might need and doing it at lightning speed. Consequently, within half an hour of Jonathon making his request, Mathew was already in a car and driving off on his task.
Jonathon returned to his study having seen his brother off and picked up the drink that had been standing waiting for him. He pushed it away without bothering to even taste it, and poured himself a fresh one.
She awoke from bad dreams into worse. Her arms ached, pinned painfully together behind her back and wrapped immobile in a tight sleeve buckled to her waist. Her calves were belted to her thighs, pressing her ankles against her buttocks; a metal bar linked to straps wrapped around her thighs kept her legs forced wide apart. She couldn’t even turn her head – a high, rigid collar was wrapped around her neck, keeping her gaze focused straight ahead at a blank wall. Her jaw ached, forced open...
Choices, by Armond Note: this is a continuation of my story, 'Useful Information'. It helps to read that story first. 1. C-r-a-a-c-k! The wooden banister splintered on impact. All went slow motion: body slipping backward, hands grasping at air, emerald eyes, opening wide, dark red eyebrows, arching high, mouth opening to scream. She fell. Through the banister, toward the hallway floor, three stories below. "DEIRDRE!" "Una, wake up!" Ula said, giving her a sharp shake....
“Now...” The rain came down steadily; heavy sheets of it falling for the last few hours. It had turned the winding cottage roads into obstacle courses with pools of water and large branches and debris strewn across the gravel and asphalt. Wise travelers would have avoided trying to push through such a torrent. Yet there would always be a few who had "no choice" but to go through. Some make it just fine. Some have to face the consequences of their choice. The blue cube van had been pushed back...
Straight SexChoices. So many choices, so many ways things could have worked out. But we make our choices, and we try to make good ones. And we take responsibility for our choices, too. Did my choices lead me inexorably to this point? Or was there an uncontrollable, unchosen outside force that got me here? Not that it really matters, because I choose, every day -- every minute of every day -- to live like this. Wasn't it Sartre who said that every day we make the choice to go on living, so we are...
Choices By Dawn DeWinter A story about a family with two boys aged 10 and 13 (Blair and Kirk), in which choice is a delusion and gender, an illusion. Choices, Chapter 18 A wedding choice Will Maggie do right by Kirk? Will Kirk become Ellen? Will Blair stop crossdressing? Will Laird and Maggie stay together? Does Laird even have a choice? These questions, among others, compelled me, fabulist Dawn DeWinter, to consult the occult. Once before, Madame Zeta, a fortune teller in New York City, helped me to look into the future. Then I wanted to know whether Kyle, an Iowa teen who would do "Anything for a Moped," ended up...
I heard Cassie come back late that night, and the next morning I heard Kate and Cassie talking her room. I heard tears at one point, and loud laughter too. Then they went off-campus to get some brunch. I debated when to bring it up with Kate, but couldn’t decide. For several days, nothing happened. Whenever I caught Kate’s eye, she shook her head, either unwilling or unready to talk about it. She asked me to have dinner with her Tuesday night though, in a different dining hall than we usually...
Choices Joss Whedon portrayed it right. High school really is hell. At least mine was. A genuine monster came to my school, and I was one of those who lived to tell the story. Sometimes I envy those who didn't survive.... It started on a very nice day at the end of October of my grade eleven year. I had hoped that the worst of the bullying I had suffered in grade ten was behind me, and for the most part it was. I still got the name-calling, mostly variations on "fag", but I could...

Choices, Chapter 11 A choice of tea parties After her three days of psychological evaluation, Miss Umbridge took a two-week, mental-health leave before returning to Lewis A. Clark. It was the sweet life for Blair, as the substitute behaved more like a stand-up comic than like a teacher. He eschewed homework for student reports on "interesting websites" they had found in the nether sectors of the Internet. Best of all, he had no idea that Blair was supposed to be treated with...

Choices, Chapter 3 Amber's Choice While still within spitting distance of Pierre's salon, Blair whispered in Maggie's ear, "Mommy, I don't think my sneakers are right for a girl. I don't know any girls who wear black Nikes." He pointed to a shoe store: "Can we go there?" After he had tried on his sixth pair of shoes, the salesgirl commented, "A typical tween, she simply can't decide, can she? Madame, if you don't make the choice for her, you'll never get out of here. Inspired by a dream, and dedicated to my love Marianne! Choices & Consequences By Apple Lee was in trouble, and he knew it. Worse than knowing he was in trouble was the knowledge that it was his own fault. It had started a couple of years ago, when his father had met, fallen in love with, and soon married, the much younger Laura. In fact, to the then-eleven Lee, she had seemed more like the age of a sister than a parent, only nineteen to his dad's fifty-odd years. Maybe it was...
I’m Sophia. I’m in my second year of college now, but this all happened during my first year. I’m not allowed to tell you where, but it’s in the upper Midwest. Smart, well-rounded people go here, or at least people that think they’re smart. I don’t consider myself a genius, but am generally pretty studious, with some serious drive (it’s how I got into this school in the first place) and a quieter disposition, which left me steering clear of most social events my first month. My incoming class...
Choices, Chapter 14 A Shakespearean choice It took less than twenty-four hours for Blair's crossdressing and bluing to become universally known at Lewis A. Clark Charter School. It took even less time for Blair to be expelled. Miss Lucretia Umbridge made certain of that. As soon as the rumor began circulating, she barged unbidden into the office of Principal Nea Von Aft to announce dramatically that a crossdressing Smurf was bringing their school into disrepute and should,...
Choices, Chapter 8 A lesbian's choice For a month the tension had been tightening like a corset on a fifty- year-old drag queen. At school, Miss Umbridge was taking increasing umbrage at the failure of sarcasm, ridicule, petty punishments and after-school detentions to drive Blair to distraction or, better yet, from the school. Moreover, the kid's grades refused to fall; "the pervert" was heading towards success. After three weeks, she wised up to the fact that the detentions...
Choices, Chapter 10 Choice at McDonald's "Blair, you were amazing. Your performance was exciting, daring, frightening even. Son... Blair, I mean, I've never been prouder of you." Laird then literally applauded his youngest child in front of Kirk and Blair's two biggest admirers, Maggie and Big Al, who joined Laird in clapping loudly enough to turn the heads of two families sitting near to them in McDonald's. Laird continued: This is the first ballet I've ever seen. And...

Choices, Chapter 9 A ballet school's choice On the Monday after Blair's tryout with the girls' soccer league, Maggie had taken her daughter to The Dame Margot Pavlova Ballet School. Its studio was a fifteen-story walkup located on the top floor of the Sealand Building, a squat, postmodern cube with a fa?ade of blue glass, white masonry, terracotta "pillars" and dark green tiles. Blair gushed that he'd never seen a lovelier building. Huffing and puffing, and desperately gasping for b...

I know what I want to wear," Blair called out as he scrambled upstairs. "Don't forget," she called after him, "I don't want my...
Choices, Chapter 12 A Na'vi choice It was now mid-May. Miss Umbridge had returned to the class more than two weeks ago. Yet life for Blair went on much as usual at Lewis A. Whichever the case, discipline was becoming lax in Blair's homeroom as the growing excitement and waning attentiveness of his classmates signaled that the countdown to summer and to the...

Choices, Chapter 4 Preacher's Choice "We're home! Come and see your beautiful daughter!" Maggie pushed Blair across the family threshold. Alas, his feet already wet from the rain, Blair slipped on the entryway tile right into and over his own shopping bags. In consequence, he went sprawling: With his feet up in the air and his skirt bunched up at the waist, Blair presented his father with a full view of his panties. Choices, Chapter 6, A psychologist's choice "Ms. Maguire, why have you permitted this boy to defile the body that God and Nature gave him? Why have you permitted him to come to school dressed like a girl? Is this your doing?" Miss Lucretia Umbridge demanded as she exposed Blair's bra strap. Maggie was speechless. As requested, she had left her volunteer work at a women's shelter to rush to Blair's school, where, with no more than a "Follow me" and a rude crook of a finger...
Choices, Chapter 13 Kirk's choice Laird, Maggie and the two children had a family conference to discuss whether Blair should stay home from school "sick" until her skin and hair had lost their doleful color. Kirk was adamant: There was no way Blair could go to school in blue face, as there was far too much risk of someone's making the connection between the Na'vi girl from Rose Villa and the blond sissy from Bybee Lake. Brother of a crossdressing sissy and goalie-tripping...
Choices, Chapter 17 Blair's choice Blair, tears flowing down his face, grabbed on to Maggie's sweater as she tried to ascend the stairs. "Mom, you can't leave," he squealed, "Not until you know everything. You don't know half of what's going on here." Maggie was tempted to brush him off, but Blair was so pitiful-looking she lingered to kiss him one last time. It was definitely him this time. Ryan had one group of friends that he hung around frequently. Every week they'd get together at someone's house and hang out for a few hours after dark. I was finishing reading Bobby his bedtime story so I didn’t see the dark green sedan as it pulled to the curb and stopped. I was just starting to descend the stairs when the doorbell rang. Moving slowly and carefully, she slipped from under the sheet and swung her feet to the floor. She stood and tip-toed to the chair where her clothing lay. She donned her dress, picked up her underwear, pantyhose, shoes and purse and left. She stood in the bedroom doorway and looked back at the bed. Lee’s dark hair was scattered over her pillow, hiding her face. The sheet had slipped...
Morgan was lying on the couch listening to the Playstation (my feeble excuse for a stereo) when I got back. "You seem surprised to see me here," she said languidly. "I'm surprised at your musical choices. Since when did you start listening to syrupy AC love song stuff?" "Hey, it's your Dawson's Creek CD." "Well, I know I'm a fool for love songs. But you've always been the Pearl Jam and Nirvana kind of girl. The one that got me to try Three Doors Down, Godsmack, Days of the New,...
"Send her in, Jeanine. This may take a while, so if you need to head out for the weekend, that's alright," Principal Eriksen said."See you next week!” was the reply he heard over the phone. He had set up a late meeting, and given that it was a Friday, Mr. Eriksen was left to work by himself in the faculty office. Joseph Eriksen was in his sixth year overseeing the students and faculty at Blackhawk Valley prep school, beloved by his students and well-liked in the community. He was a handsome...
ReluctanceLaura packed up her things and left work. She slung her bag over her shoulder and headed out the door; just like every other Thursday evening, off to the train for her ride home. The first thing to catch her attention was the limo parked right outside the door. The second thing was the man in the tuxedo holding a sign reading "Laura". "Can I help you?" she said, glancing around looking for an explanation. "You must be Laura, I'm here to pick you up." "Why...who sent you?" "I can't tell you a...
SpankingHow had I got myself into this situation, I was asking myself. Why me? What had I done to deserve this? Well, the answer was — if I was being truthful with myself, that is — that it wasn't what I had done; it was more a question of what I hadn't done. Sound confusing to you? Yeah, me, too, but now it was time for me to do something drastic, and bloody quickly as well, before things reached the point of no return. Let's go back a little and I'll try to explain what happened. What it had...
My thanks to my editor adetaildiva. Without her this would be a poorer story. After her any errors are mine. * On Friday, I was able to slip out early and miss the traffic to my house. That gave me time for a quick game of catch with Bobby before I took off for my date with Nan. I liked spending time with him. I was a good athlete in school, but I never had that extra step, quick pivot, or sharp eye that could have earned me a scholarship. Instead, I had the drive and determination to be in...
Hey Everyone! Sorry for the ridiculously long wait, this will be the last installment! I hope everyone enjoys it…this story has taken me much longer than I anticipated. But I’ve got ideas for other stories in the works, so I’m ready to conclude Aidan and Lili and begin anew J IrishSmile ——————————— Aidan woke to the sound of someone opening a door, and he was instantly reminded of where he was and why. He couldn’t prevent his emotions taking a roller coaster ride if he wanted to, and his...
Before I left for winter break, I had to decide what classes I would be taking next semester. Since I needed only one more class to fulfill my academic obligations, I was looking for something with minimal time and work expenditure required. Ah, the beauty of graduate classes... however, the thought often forefront in my mind was that Liz would be leaving Hopkins at the end of January, and only coming for classes and special events. College had taught me the painful lesson that taking classes...
We convoyed over to Memorial, and found Kat (Dick's wife) in the visitor's area, conferring with a doctor. We were all relieve to find out that the chest pain and shortness of breath that had convinced Dick to come in had resulted from a mild heartbeat irregularity, not a coronary. Dick was wheeled out an hour later, and walked out of the hospital under his own power, with warnings from his doctor to take it easy ringing in his ears. I made my way home after we all saw Dick and Kat back to...
Time passed as it inevitably does. At the end of that year of college, I gave up on the idea of becoming an architect. The reason I gave everyone was that my building work had really taken off in a really big way, as in truth, it had. I'm not sure where my reputation for quality workmanship actually came from, but apparently I had built one. In truth, Dee had signed up for a design course that I needed to take; I saw her name on the list when I went to register for that next year. Don't...
But then the full weight of the situation I am in struck my head. Jack was just standing there, his eyes blinking in a peaceful rhythm, his face calm and his right hand still on my bare ass, slowly moving, no wait, He is drawing a question mark. It took me a sec to notice it, it was cute, and that lasted short as he inserted his finger in my ass crack. My body reacted in a way I still don’t completely understand. It was so wild, just imagining that now sends shivers down my spine. ...
I went in the house to ask what had happened to the car. But Barry wasn’t there. My phone rang. “Hey honey, listen, I’m gonna tell you something, don’t freak out” “Depends, did you crash the car or something? Where are you? Don’t worry, I’ll come to the hospital right away.” It’s weird how our brains go directly to death when someone is about to say something bad. “Okay, calm down. Nothing that bad, just that my son is coming and he’s gonna stay for the summer. I didn’t tell...
“I’ll cock something honey, come down when you are done” I said, not knowing what else to say, the practice of being a wife comes in handy when situations like this happen and your sub-conscious takes control. Barry just looked at me funny and left. I walked in all my senses, making up my mind to be strong about things, sat on the other end of the sofa with some considerable distance between us and said “We have to talk.” He didn’t reply, I waited for a minute gathering all the left...
