"Go ahead," I said, putting my left hand up next to my ear.

"Meiko," Maggie's voice said. "We have a teleport unit near Morrigan, but we are going to have a problem. The gunner is barely conscious and won't be able to get out of the pod without help."

"Can someone from Morrigan do it?" I asked.

"No," Maggie said. "I already asked. The grid is charged so anyone setting foot on it would be killed."

I considered the situation. "We've done that kind of teleport before, but that was after the fight was over and the ship could be motionless. If we are going to do this, the teleport unit has to hold position while we handle the transfer."

"Paula is running it," Maggie said. "And the big Sa'arm ships are still holding back. We have a ten minute window where we can pull this off."

"Donna!" I shouted. "Do we have anyone who can wear a pressure suit for an emergency teleport? But we only have about five minutes."

Donna stepped out of the medical bay. "What?"

"One of the gunballs on Morrigan took a hit. It's dead on their grid, but the gunner is alive. They are asking if we can teleport them here," I responded.

"Injured?" Donna asked.

"Yes," I replied with a nod. "They will need help to reach the pod."

Donna frowned. "Nathan! You are the most fit. Can you get into a pressure suit fast? And can someone ask Amanda if she'll mind if we borrow her concubine?"

"Go for it!" Amanda's voice rang out. "But will this disrupt the teleport for Deb? They have the last of her armor off and are carrying her to the teleport pad."

"The pad is clear," I called out. "Kitty, run the teleport while Nathan gets ready. Maggie, give us four minutes and make sure that Paula can put the teleport unit right next to the gunball."

"Teleporting now!" Kitty called out.

There was a moment of silence. In my ear, I could hear Kitty gasp, but no words followed the gasp. Instead, the teleport pad in front of me and near the medical bay glowed for a moment.

The glow faded and I could see Orlando holding someone up. An arm was draped across his shoulder. He lifted his companion up and started to stagger his way to off the pad. Michael noticed and ran forward to help.

"Don't touch her right side!" Orlando screamed. "She's got acid burns all over her."

Michael slowed down. "Do you want a gurney?"

"No," Orlando replied. "We have no time. Just lead me to the medical pod we are going to put her in."

Shawna appeared from the main medical room. "The closet pod on the left is clear. Can you run?"

Orlando shocked me as he used one arm to lift Deb from the ground. With surprising strength, he cradled his mistress in his arms as he stepped off the pad and ran towards Shawna, who scrambled out of the way. Michael followed Orlando, shouting that he'd help lift her into the pod.

"Meiko!" I heard Paula call out. "I have the teleport unit in position, but the Sa'arm are starting to advance. Captain Evans says he can only hold position for a few more minutes. Is Nathan ready?"

"Nathan?" I called out.

"How do I make sure that this suit is sealed properly?" he asked. I looked up as he walked into the room from an alcove I had not noticed before. He had on a silvery suit topped by a spherical helmet. His gloved hands twitched and played with an imaginary collar.

Donna waddled over to him. She grabbed his arm and pressed a couple of buttons on his right forearm. "Watch the lights, if they both turn green the suit is sealed properly," she said sharply.

"Meiko? What will I do when I get there?" he asked.

"The mobile unit should be right next to the damaged gunball. The unit is basically an airlock and will be holding atmosphere when I send you. Once the door is open, step onto the gunball, grab the injured gunner and jump back into the unit. Do not touch anything except the gunball and the injured gunner," I said.

"Will the airlock close before I teleport back?" he asked.

"No," I said. "I can teleport you from a vacuum back to the atmosphere here, but teleport from atmosphere to a vacuum causes problems. All you will have to do is touch the pad and I can bring you back."

"He's ready," Donna called out. "Is the pad clear?"

"Kitty, I'm handling a rescue port, keep the pad clear. Paula, is the pod in position?" I spoke into my headset.

"Yes," Paula replied. "But you need to hurry. Some of the Sa'arm fighters have changed course and are heading toward the carrier that the admiral brought. Morrigan is part of the screen and will be taking fire in a minute or two. I have pad four."

"I've been following the pads. I already have it hooked up. Nathan! Get on the pad!" I shouted.

The man nervously skipped forward and jumped onto the pad. He turned back to me and was shaking his head as I activated the teleport to the mobile pad.

Nathan disappeared from the pad. I watched the readouts. They soon indicated that the airlock of the mobile pod was depressurizing.

"I'm in a dark tube," Nathan said through the radio in the suit.

"No shit!" Donna said. "That's what one of those mobile teleports is. The door should open in a moment."

I giggled. "Donna, I think Nathan is a bit nervous. We should be a bit more supportive."

The reply was a loud sniff. "No one gave me support when I was out there in the cold darkness of space ... But I guess it wasn't in the middle of a shooting fight either. Stay calm, Nathan, I'm sure Amanda wants you back in one piece."

"Not funny," Nathan muttered. The display on my console showed that the airlock had completed its cycle and the door was opening. "Doors now opening," Nathan continued. "I can see the gunball. It's a mess. There is a lot of jagged metal here that I have to step over."

"How is the gunner?" Ed asked over the headset. I looked up in surprise. The elder citizen was standing in the entry to the medical room and covering his right ear with a cupped hand.

"Curled up in a ball. I just see the suit but the left arm is moving," Nathan said. "One moment, let me step over. I can see a good platform to check on the gunner."

"Hurry," Paula said. "Morrigan has just increased thrust. She's about to go back into the fight."

"There's a lot of sharp fragments of metal," Nathan replied. "I don't want to risk the suit. Now give me a second, I've managed to step so I can kneel by the gunner. He has his arms over his stomach and there is something staining the suit. I'm guessing he took a hit from a sliver."

We all waited in silence for about thirty seconds. Then there was a loud sigh from Nathan. "I'm no doctor. I need a minute to get the gunner out of his harness. I can see a bit more. Add a shattered shoulder to some severe abdominal injuries. The suit has two sealed holes just above waist level and the gunner's left arm is bent behind him."

"I'll get a pod ready," Ed said. He turned back towards the medical room. "Shawna, activate the new program I set up on pod seven. I think we'll have to put the gunner in with the suit still on. Removing it might cause him to bleed out."

"It slows down the healing," Shawna said. "The nanites end up taking hours just to dissolve clothing."

"Ed's right," Donna said. "The gunner has already spent at least thirty minutes with two holes in him. I don't want to imagine the damage we'd do if we removed the suit."

"Mieko," Nathan called out. "This gunner can't help me. He's unconscious. I can pick him up in a fireman's carry and jump to the pad, but..."

"Do it," I said as I adjusted the controls. The pad would now activate the instant Nathan touched it, bringing him and anyone he carried back to Ishtar.

"On one ... two..." Nathan called out. There was a grunt and then the pad in the room lit up in a bright flash of light. Donna and Ed rushed to the edge of the pad as the light began to dim.

"Craig," Donna called out. "Roll the gurney onto the pad. We need to get this one into a pod fast."

Craig grabbed a gurney and began running toward the teleport pad. I could see Ed and Donna standing next to Nathan. He had a body draped over his shoulders. The man staggered toward the gurney as Craig reached the edge of the platform.

"Meiko?" I heard Paula whisper.

'Sorry," I replied as I turned my eyes back to the console. "Nathan has arrived back safely. You can get the teleport unit out of the way."

"I should tell Amanda that her concubine is back safely," I said.

"I heard," Amanda replied. "The AI appears to be tracking what is said and will route information to interested parties. How is the gunner?"

"I don't know," I said as I looked up. The teleport pad was empty of people. While I was concentrating on the console, the gunner had been taken into the medical room. "They have him in the medical room already."

I watched the doorway, hoping someone would come through. The fate of the gunner was a mystery I wanted to know more about. However, before anyone appeared, a new klaxon started to blare.

"Damn!" Yvette screamed. "Tif, turn that damn thing off. What is the matter now?"

"Tracking reports one of the dead Sa'arm scouts is going to crash into the planet!" Tamara called out.

"What about the atmosphere?" someone cried.

"It's too fast," Tamara responded. "And the scan says the armor is intact enough that it will survive its plunge without breaking up."

"Where will the impact be?" James asked calmly.

"Somewhere in the mountains to the west of us," Tamara responded. "But we'll feel it here."

"Are you sure?" Yvette asked.

"The AI probably is," James said. "Sa'arm ships are huge by our standards. The Sa'arm are larger than us to begin with and they have more crew on their ships. It's going to be as if a large meteor hit the planet."

"That's what the AI is warning," Tamara replied. "Impact is expected to be in four minutes."

"Everyone, make sure your area is prepared for the impact," James said. He sounded almost unnaturally calm. "Reggie, do you need more people?"

"We can handle it," Reggie said. "You had the nursery reinforced a long time ago, and the main room doesn't have anything that can be knocked around. We already have the babies secured there, so we should be able to ride out anything."

"Will the power be disrupted?" Ed called out. "Some of the medical pods should probably go into emergency mode if we might lose power."

"Based on current tracking and the size of the damaged scout, the damage to the colony will not cause a disruption to the power supply," the AI offered.

There was a light flashing on the teleport console. It indicated a communication from a blocked unit. I reached out a tentative hand and then switched to the incoming call. "Ishtar teleport control," I stated firmly.

"Um ... damn..." a male voice stammered. "Um ... look, some of the guys here aren't happy with how everything went down ... um..."

I raised my hand, almost immediately realizing that the speaker could not see it. "Wait. Who is this?"

"Oh! Sorry, but I just thought you'd know ... I don't know why you've never met me ... I mean, I don't know who you are either, but you're on the planet and..."

The signal cut out for a moment and then an older voice took over. "Damn kid. I knew some of the marines in this company were a bit wet behind the ears, but you don't babble. The private was asking if we can help."

"Who?" I asked again.

"This is Sergeant Watkins. We were part of the company that was just on the planet," the older voice said again. "We'd like to help."

I reached out to put the communication on hold. For a moment, I just stared into space, but then I activated my contact with the rest of the planet. "James, I just received a communication. It appears some of Colonel Johanes' men want to help."

"They what?" James asked. "Damn ... We could use the help, but I have to get ready to handle the lasers. Yvette, why don't you listen in, but allow Meiko to do most of the talking. We can definitely try to crash train some laser gunners if they have anyone with armor."

"What's wrong?" Yvette asked.

"Deb is hurt, Amanda and Xavier are both down while their armor is repaired. Barbara and Alexis are still in medical pods from yesterday's fighting. Brad should have his armor back in five minutes, but right now only Linus and I have armor. The lasers are turning around in fifteen minutes, but armor repair is running over an hour," James said.

I was in the process of switching the communications back to the sergeant when Tiffany's voice broke through. "Admiral Timmons! Admiral Timmons! Please respond! We need status!"

"What's wrong?" Yvette called out.

"Captain Evans, status!" James called out.

"Sa'arm fighters got through our screen. They used some missile that was designed to penetrate deep into a target. The carrier took a hit on the flag bridge," Captain Evans replied.

My console was beeping. I was reminded that I needed to resume the communications with the marines. My fingers reached out to make the adjustment.

"Sergeant," I said as I flicked the switch. "Sorry for the delay, we have a small crisis here."

"That's why we are volunteering to help," the man replied. "There's no question that the orders we were told about were not all the orders that Colonel Johanes had."

"The only job on the planet that we can use marines for would be as gunners. I remember that when you arrived James was told that none of your people had the training to use those," I replied.

"These men are marines, they can and will improvise and adapt," the sergeant growled. "If you bring us down, we'll listen and learn as quick as we can."

"They need armor," Yvette whispered. I wondered if the sergeant could hear the comment, but he said nothing.

I sighed. "Firing the lasers requires that you wear marine battle armor."

"Meiko!" James called out. "No more than four gunners. We don't have space here for more. However, we need bodies for search and rescue."

"What?" I replied.

"Problems?" the sergeant asked. "Oh, and any of my guys can get into armor, but it would take some time."

Crisis at IshtarChapter 28 The Peace Ends

For the next week, every citizen had concubines hovering around him or her. If a citizen showed any fatigue, they were dragged back to their pods and forced to sleep. James and Yvette grumbled a bit about the concubines taking over, but the rest was definitely doing them good. Once again, gathering in our large recreation room became a popular pastime. Tyson, Terrence and Brad even came up with rules for three-person hockey. Teams were formed from a citizen and his concubines. Janice and...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 57 Official Notices

My opponent abandoned his attempt to take over the teleport pad after about twenty minutes. I stood at the controls, waiting for the next attack. I was checking to see if I could set up some filters to help limit the scope of the attacks when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I froze, but a hand kept me from turning around. "Don't panic," I heard Brittany say. "I just didn't know how to get your attention. You were concentrating." The console signaled that another attempt...

Chorus boys

They were due to open in less than thirty days and still they were several chorus boys short of a full ensemble!!! Dick Logan, the director of the musical, sat with his assistant and said grimly, "Ross, what are we gonna do, we need at least two more men, where are we gonna find them!?!" "Well, why don't you ask Mr. Mills if we can just relax the standards on cock size a little bit," Ross asked hopefully, "I mean does it really make any difference that one cock is a little bigger or smaller...

A Prayer for Mercy

Mercy truly wanted to become a slut. Her chosen role model was Paris Hilton. She wanted to be able to fuck any man any time she felt like it. She wanted them to swarm around her like bees after a pot of honey, eager for her signal that she was ready for them. She knew how to act like a slut, and she sometimes did, dressing like a cheap whore and cruising the singles' bars. She knew how to pick up guys and get them to buy her drinks. She knew how to get them to take her home before they got too...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 33 Uneasy Truces

Brittany and Kitty relaxed slightly once James had disappeared from the viewscreen. Kitty looked a bit frustrated. "I want to help him, but I can't move fast right now," she moaned as she put a hand on her very pregnant belly. "I felt the same the last weeks before giving birth," I admitted. "James understands." Kitty nodded sadly as she claimed an empty chair and sat down. She quickly rolled the chair next to mine and threw her arms around me as I continued to watch the viewscreen...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 47 At a Standoff

James waved at the ceiling. "End this call," he muttered. "The communication has ended," the AI replied. "Please note that Major Bonham is looking for ways to conduct surveillance of this side of the colony. Do you wish to block his attempts?" "I should," James replied with a snarl. "But if he only sees rooms and not the hallways it shouldn't matter too much. Just make sure he doesn't find out about our little hold out tunnel. I'm beginning to fear we might have to use it...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 51 Unfriendly Meetings

Once we passed through the airlock, Tyson put his arms around Cleo and pulled her to him. "Run along, girls," he said. "I think it's time I got this lovely lady pregnant again." Mickey and I giggled and then ran off down the hallway. Behind us, we could hear Cleo's cheerful squeal as she twisted around to kiss Tyson. "She sounds happy with the idea," Mickey said as we make our way through the passages. "I think she is truly happy about it," I replied quietly. "Tyson loves his...

The Chorus Teacher

I was on my way out of the chorus classroom, trying to avoid Ms. C’s gaze. ‘Halle, I’d like to see you for a moment,’ she said. Oh shit, I thought. I walked up to her desk. It was the end of the school day, so she didn’t have another class coming in. ‘I just received word today that you didn’t make it into the choir that I had you audition for on Saturday. You know? The one we spent hours rehearsing for every day last week?’ I nodded, shifting my weight nervously. ‘Look, Halle. I worked really...

The Chorus Line Assembled

The Chorus Line: Assembled Basketball practice had been especially rough for De Leon High School's varsity squad. The normally skilled, disciplined five man line-up had been uncharacteristically sloppy this evening. Mr. Reynolds was clearly not happy. He'd sent the rest of the boys to the showers and home already and had had the five starters take a knee in the center of the gymnasium. The boys waited nervously as their coach paced back and forth. Reynolds was fairly young to be...

The Chorus Line: Journey From his position as the last one in the line of marchers, Coach Reynolds could see his five transformed players traveling along their mysterious course. While the loud, rhythmic clicking of their preposterously high heels hitting the pavement dominated, he could also hear several of the boys mumbling as they tried to speak through their clenched lips. Their six identical bodies were all ramrod straight, marching with speed and coordinated precision. Their...

Beg for Mercy

One of my girlfriends called me the other night and told me about an awesome "beg for mercy" game she played at a party. The name of the game intriqued so of course I wanted to know more. She said there was another party and wanted me to come with her. Needless to say, I was ready to go!On the way over there she explained the rules of the game to me. Here they are in a nutshell: there are no rule; anything goes! The object of the game is to be the girl who can go the longest without begging for...

It's not the job of my dreams or anything, but it gives me the finances and freedom to fulfill my hobbies. My dream job would've been to teach drama and acting, but really, I never had the courage to grab the "brass ring" and go for the career. I think I had talent, I just wasn't quite confident enough that I could achieve what I wanted...

My white boy was now lying on the floor at my mercy

I hate men, fuck them all, but I love their dicks. I love the way their dicks feel pounding in me, making me go crazy with lust. Black brothers fuck better, but white boys are more willing and eager. There was this time when I picked up a white boy at a bar on the south side of town. He wanted to fuck a black chick and could pay and I was willing to let it be me. You know the type, young pimply, horny and unloved. I think the boy was a virgin and wanted to get that behind him. If he had only...

Mercy

I walk down the street that leads from the temple to the main square. I have spent the night at the temple, alone. I am naked, and I am shaven, body and head. I am cold, the morning sun has not yet warmed up the air and the stones. At this time of the morning, the street I am walking is usually a very busy place — men, women, children, doing business, strolling, playing, talking, watching, laughing — a bustle of life, to be seen, and heard, and shared... Today, though, the street is empty,...

I quickly forced myself to look back at the row of TVs hanging from the ceiling, not wanting her to catch me looking at her again. Crisis at IshtarChapter 7 A Night of Bliss

The next morning James woke us up for the final time. Madoka had fussed during the night when she was hungry, but each time I managed to fall back to sleep. Beside me, I could hear Kitty and Brittany complain mildly about the movement. James, however, would not be denied. "Sorry my loves, but the AI just said that Bethany is awake, and I thought I'd collect her. Janice, I'm sorry I couldn't come and collect you when you woke," he said as he left the room at a near run. "Hey, I woke up...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 8 Castle Games

The brief baby boom ended eight days later and the population of our colony had increased by forty-eight children. Every one of the original thirty-seven female concubines gave birth although only Madison, one of Linus Van Stern's concubines, gave birth to twins. She was thrilled to have her third and fourth children and was soon offering to set up a day care and baby-raising clinic for any concubines needing a break. Her master simply glowed that he now had two sons and a new daughter to go...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 9 A Bully from a Good Seed

Whitney was still hugging Tamara when a man entered the command post from the teleport room's passageway. "Hey! It's the unattached slut! Are you giving it out now! You refused me on the ship! You're unattached and can't do that!" The man reached out to grab Whitney. His hand had barely touched her when James burst from his chair and in a flying tackle slammed the man against the wall of the room. "Tamara, get her out of here. Xavier! Crisis at IshtarChapter 10 Preparations

Tina and I made our way to the doorway and headed out. It was clear that the conversation had turned to technical matters regarding the repairs and James would be tied up for some time. He waved as we left but was quickly pulled back to one of the panels to start reviewing the damage and suggested repairs to Tintagel Castle. In the hallway we found Alexis walking with a couple of the concubines from Tintagel. Both were wearing splints and bandages obviously created by tearing up a shift. She...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 11 Short Goodbyes

The next week it seemed I spent much of my time finding excuses to hide in the household pod or the Concubine's refuge. James had locked William in an otherwise unused habitat pod near the original command center, but the crew of Tintagel Castle proved to include nine more men who refused to keep their hands to themselves. Most of the concubines figured that out the first night when these men spent much of the welcome party drunkenly calling for Lindsay, Bonnie and Cleo to perform lap...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 12 What the Probe Brought Back

Life settled down again once Tintagel Castle left for home. As expected, Brent's retest scored him as a five nine and James quickly ordered him thrown in a recycler. After that, the citizens appeared to be concentrating on the slow expansion of the colony and setting up the new living area for visiting crews. The musical practice was now all about perfecting the dances and singing. As we could all see it coming together there was a contagious enthusiasm creeping into the concubines. Anytime...

"Bit of a walk isn't it?" Tanya said with a smile. "It's outside the citizen zone," I admitted. "But you had wounded so we teleported you in at our command post. I'm not sure we have a teleport near here yet. This is new." "Will all my crew be here?" Tanya asked. "Probably not," I said. "The walking wounded you had were directed to one of the rooms we have near our medical center. If there are free pods they'll rotate the people through." Tanya nodded. "On that note, how...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 16 Gifts Exchanged

Bethany had my daughter on a changing table when I walked in. She smiled at me. "Don't worry, I don't mind changing babies. Especially when it's the child of my sister." She lifted Madoka up and carried her over to me. With a gentle touch she laid Madoka in my arms. I looked down at the child I had brought into the world. She was now just over two months old and still spent the majority of her time sleeping, but right then she was awake and reached out her tiny hands to grab at my...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 17 Negative Official Notice

The departure of Freya brought peace to Ishtar. Janice continued to lead rehearsals of the musical. We now had a complete show that lasted just over seventy minutes. It was almost ready, and we were becoming increasingly worried that the secret would be revealed. Janice insisted that conversations about our work be kept to the Concubine's Refuge to prevent accidentally revealing our plans. The citizens seemed rather distracted though. James and Yvette seemed to spend hours in the command...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 18 Preparations for Trouble

My master appeared to shake himself awake. "Damn, we don't need more trouble here. Michelle try to contact Borneo, we need to see if Admiral Himmel knows anything about this Chief Scientist." "Is that even a rank?" Tiffany asked. "Who knows," Yvette responded while massaging her temples. "But from the attitude on that man, he believes it means quite a bit." Janice looked around. "Are these alien artifacts really that important." I heard a snort. I turned to see where it came...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 19 A Moment of Relaxation

For the next three days, the colony was bustling with activity. Under the direction of Marina, who proved to have been a hotel maid back on Earth before becoming Shawna's concubine, thirty pods were organized, cleaned and prepared for occupation. Most were set up so they had multiple dwellings each set up like a hotel suite with a central meeting and relaxation room and two separate sleeping areas. Others were organized more like barracks with enough beds to handle one of the squads the vice...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 20 Opening Night Jitters

Nightmares caused Janice to toss and turn most of the night. I held her close and tried to kiss the dreams away, but her mumbled words made it clear she was worried about the musical. During the first part of the night she woke me four times, before finally settling down sometime during Devil hour. After the dreams faded she was sleeping so peacefully that when Joy woke up hungry early in the morning I fed her myself rather than wake my friend. I ended up having to go downstairs to wake...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 21 Impressing the Citizens

Madoka was hungry. Once I offered her a meal, she drank it down. Afterwards she fidgeted for only a moment before closing her eyes again. I was not completely surprised, as she had been awake for the last hour as I memorized the seating chart. Once she was slumbering in one of the cribs set up in the backstage nursery, I hurried back to the theater, prepared to lead the citizens to their seats. Janice met me at the curtain. She seemed a bit distracted, but held up a hand for me to pause. I...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 22 Damaged Visitors

James was bringing Tina's lips to his when a voice I did not recognize started shouting. "Oh God! Oh God! James! James! We have a visitor! We have a visitor!" James paused and looked over at Bethany. She mouthed a name and he nodded. "Give me a report," he called out. "We have a jump point opening," the voice cried nervously. "The instruments say it's on a direct line with the Ursus system. One of the notes said that the last ship to arrive from that system was Nassau." James set...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 23 Recovery

I slowly climbed back to consciousness. Fog seemed to cloud my head, clearing briefly as a loud hiss broke through my muddled thoughts. I tried to sit up, but a firm hand on my left shoulder kept me lying flat. "Don't move yet," Shawna's voice instructed me. "Open your eyes and look at me." Bright almost blinding light caused me to gasp, but I held them open and turned my head towards the voice. Shawna stood next to me. My position put me about her waist level. Glancing down I could...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 24 A Night Back

James looked over at Janice and me. "Are you sure you can perform?" he asked. Janice giggled. "Why wouldn't we be able to perform? It should be easier the second time. We won't have as many first performance jitters." "And we won't worry about disappointing you," I whispered. "I missed so many notes while I was playing." Janice looked at me. "I thought the orchestra was struggling a bit. What was going on?" I shrugged. "Rather than using the sheet music, the AI was...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 25 A Chance to Practice

The next morning I woke slowly. Arms were draped over my body, pressing me into the mattress. Raising my head, I found that Kitty was snuggled in tight to my right side while Bethany was on my left side. My motion caused Kitty to shift in her sleep and I was able to crawl out of the intertwined limbs. The door to the bedroom was open and I could hear a baby stirring in our living room. Taking soft steps to avoid waking my family, I eased my way to the door. In the living room, I found all...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 26 Another Show

After we finished feeding our children, Mickey, Cleo and I took them back to the cribs before we each grabbed some lunch. During our meal we talked a bit about the music we were playing. "I knew music like this existed, but this is more fun than I ever imagined," Mickey said. "And last night was ... wow! I could feel the way the audience reacted." Cleo nodded. "It is powerful. We need to be feeding that by playing our best." I blew out a raspberry. "More practice." The others...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 27 More Quiet Moments

Mickey, Cleo and I were the last three to leave the theater. We exited the airlock to find our sister concubines waiting. I found myself showered with hugs and kisses. "That was so much fun!" Tina squealed. "We have to do that again." "It was definitely fun," Bethany said calmly. "And there is no question that James and the others liked watching it." "Totally" Kitty said. "You realize that every citizen snuck in to watch it a second time." "Every one?" I asked. "Who was in...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 29 Meeting Visitors

I left the teleport room and headed back to the command post. When I reached the doors we once used to keep Ruth and Manuel away from our homes, they were shut tight. Each set remained closed until I was no more than ten yards away and then opened, allowing me into the colony. Once I passed the third door, I ran to the command post. The tapestry had moved to conceal the door, and I had to lift it away from the wall in order to enter. Inside I found that Candi and Randi had relieved my...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 30 Emergency Measures

"You need to get that fire out!" I heard Timothy shout. "It's too close to your missile magazine." "The magazine is empty!" a female voice called back. "We shot everything during our breakout from Ursus!" "I'm not worried about an explosion," Timothy called back. "The smoke from that fire will be poisonous if it reaches the loading tubes. Those tubes contain heavy metals that you really don't want to breathe." "Everyone here is in suits!" the voice cried back. "We...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 31 Musical Ships

I returned to our home hallways in time to catch James coming out of the command post. With Diana and Ingrid's help I cornered him in the hallway and ordered him to throw me over his shoulder and take me back to our home to ravish me. He did after telling the AI to order Bethany home. James did not really ravish me though. He jumped into the shower while Bethany and I fed our daughters and then pulled us into the hot tub for an hour of playful fun. Bethany held onto him at the end of that...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 32 Untimely Arrivals

The next four weeks passed peacefully. We saw visits from several ships, but none were heavily damaged. The longest stay was the corvette Aspen, which arrived with a missile jammed in its starboard tube. Terrence and Louis spent four hours with the AI carefully manipulating the missile until they could pull it free from the launcher. My tapestry was completed, and now hanging near the first door separating the enclave from the visitors part of the colony. Janice had claimed the loom and was...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 34 Thunderous Silence

Kitty staggered one time when a powerful contraction wracked her body, but otherwise we were able to reach the medical bay without problems. The door slid opened as we approached and Shawna dashed out. "It's nice to have some good news," she cried as she gave Kitty a quick hug before taking my friend's right arm and offering support. "How bad are the contractions?" "I've only had one," Kitty moaned. "At least only one I felt. Ooooh." "Two," Brittany chirped with a...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 35 A Wounded Colony

We raced up the hallway. Ahead, I could see smoke and hear shouts. The shouts were filled with panic. The smoke quickly got thicker and I nearly ran into Patty when she stopped. "Patty!" I heard Reggie shout. "What happened to Craig and Robert?" "The AI reported that a section of the ceiling collapsed and trapped them," Patty said as she pushed the gurney against the wall. "Meiko and I brought gurneys though." Reggie nodded and seemed about to say more when the AI spoke....

Crisis at IshtarChapter 36 A Meeting with a Brain

It seemed to take forever to make our way to the passage that used to separate our home from the maniacs who had been dropped on Ishtar with us. When we arrived, the informal guard kiosk stood empty in front of a closed pressure door. We paused to wait for the doors to open when a young female cried out. "Wait!" We turned to find Lily, the ten year old daughter of Linus, pushing a double stroller. I tried to figure out what the issue was as she came to a stop in front of us. "Esther...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 37 Friendly and Unfriendly Visitors

My master seemed exhausted as we left the command post and began to make our way through the passages. The halls were largely empty and I was going to ask why when the AI called out, "Devil hour has just begun." "More than half a day spent dealing with this," James said quietly. "I shouldn't be too surprised." "I just hope we can get some rest," I said. "That scientist seems..." I paused, trying to think of a good adjective to describe the man we had watched walk out. James said...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 38 Threats and Bluster

I wanted to speak up once we were past the marines, but before I could gather my courage James turned to Yvette. "It's clear that our friend the governor is out to cause trouble. We should not let him know about the fact that we have access to the three common rooms just yet. However, make sure that all citizens use the ice rink to move back and forth for now. I don't want us confronting his goon squad just yet." Yvette nodded. "In fact, I'd take that further and stop all transit...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 39 Peace Through Providence

The statement from Governor Johanes lowered the temperature in the room even as James shifted his weight. My master seemed ready to lunge forward across the table and I held him tighter, trying to keep him from getting in trouble. It seemed he was not going to calm down and I was starting to lose my grip. "Excuse me, James?" a feminine voice said. I had my eyes closed as I strained to keep James in his chair and had not seen anyone approach. James tensed one more time and then seemed to...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 40 Gifts of Rabbits

I held Brittany in my arms as the door to the skating rink opened. Esther and the male concubine Petey stepped into the hallway. Kitty immediately noticed the young man. "Oh, a loincloth. I like the look." Petey blushed and stepped a little away from Kitty, who immediately turned to Esther. "The AI suggested that Brit and I be here now. What's happening?" Esther sighed. "Let's just say that Governor Johanes offered us an extremely clear example of the kind of leadership he offers....

Crisis at IshtarChapter 41 Private Moments

Janice and I arrived home to find Bethany, Tina and Kitty sitting around the table. Bethany looked up from the game they were playing and waved us over. "We'll deal you in next game," she told us. "James is right now giving Brittany..." "Four hours of bliss!" Kitty shouted. Bethany smiled at the interruption. Tina ignored the interplay and began moving cards on the table. The game they were playing was an elaborate card game where cards on the table were purchased with cards held in...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 42 Major Complaints

I woke back up slowly. Around me I could hear the gentle breathing of my sister concubines. I peeked around to find them slumbering with me in the bed. Rising further, I was disturbed that James was not sharing the bed. Immediately I started to climb over Tina, who was lying by the edge of the bed. My left foot was about to touch the floor when Tina suddenly rose up and grabbed me around the waist. I sucked in my breath to scream only to find a hand slapped over my mouth. "Don't," Tina...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 43 Visits Bring New Troubles

James jumped away from the laser and waved to Tina and me. "Head to the briefing room," he ordered us. Tina dashed off, but I waited among the hanging fabric panels that shielded the ready room from the spray designed to counteract the acid atmosphere as James walked toward the exit. "Who was that?" the major snapped as James approached the exit. I slipped a bit deeper but remained close enough to hear the conversation. "Sounded like Ulla," James said. "I've looked over the list of...

Crisis at IshtarChapter 44 Controlled Chaos Erupts

I ran from the command post. Behind me, I could hear that the conversations had definitely calmed down. Ahead, the hallways were silent. My progress to my home was uninterrupted as I rushed to Janice and Bethany. I arrived to find Janice laying Madoka on the couch. My sister concubine looked at me and laughed. "Great timing. I just changed Madoka and was going to bring her to you so you could feed her." "Where are Kitty, Brittany and Bethany?" I asked as I walked over to pick up my...
