stick that was missing but never lost. I will be continuing my other
stories but thought you all might enjoy this short story. I hope you

I rub my eyes because we were smoking some really good pot and I tried it
for the first time so the cool kids would see I smoked weed. I walk in
the door at our home leaning my skateboard up against the wall as I look
around. I can't believe how weird or stoned I am, I can't focus, I just
want to sleep and eat.
"What happened to you Kelly? I know you're 18 years old and you think you
are an adult and don't have to follow any rules. Well young man you have
a rude awakening. I mean look at you, your hair is almost touching your
butt. Your hair is super long and any girl would kill to have your long
thick hair. What's wrong with your eyes, are you stoned or something?"
I look scared at mommy, I start to get worried.
"I mean Kelly you are 18 years old and you act like a child. I know and
you better not stop me young man or I should say child because of the way
you act. Yes, you are very small for your age and I know everyone treated
you like a toddler because of your small size. If you say a word I will
put you over my lap and spank you. I was talking to your big sister Karen
who is away at college and she totally agrees with me that you're acting
more like a child than an adult."
I walk over to my mom looking down as she was talking. "I know mom you
can't stand how I look and dress. I know I told you after I moved out,
and I said I would never come back home. I was wrong mommy I mean mom. I
mean how was I supposed to know that my apartment would get hit by
lightning and would burn up everything I owned. Everything I own, my
clothes, and furniture, or I had owned since it is all ash now, and I
have nowhere to live."
"I mean everything is gone including my little Toyota Prius. I know it
barely carried two people. I wish the garage that went to my apartment
wasn't attached since the fire burned the apartment and the garage down
to nothing. I now have no way to survive or to work. I'm supposed to go
for a job interview tomorrow, and have no clothes to wear except the
swimsuit I'm wearing now."
"We were swimming in the apartment clubhouse pool while everything I
owned burned up."
Mom is looking at me weirdly. "I mean everything that made me who I am
has went up in flames." I twist my long hair around my finger as we talk,
mommy is staring at me smiling for some reason.
"I think you're right little one, I think everything that made you Kelly
is no longer around so you will be the knew and improved Kelly." I see a
glazed confused look on Kelly's face.
I look over at little Kelly, and he looks so stoned, I don't think he
knows what he is saying or doing. I will push him and see if I can get my
hands on his long hair that I've been wanting to cut. I promised him I
would never cut it short, the haircut like most boys have. I wanted him
to go into the barber shop himself and get it cut short, short like a
crew cut or a buzz cut like he had when he was growing up to show he is
growing up and do an adult thing for once.
"Okay Kelly let me fix your hair for you. I know I said I would never cut
your hair short so I will just give you a little trim so you look better
for your job interview at Macy's stock boy position you wanted to apply
for." I notice little Kelly not arguing with me, so I will push him. "It
will only take a minute and you will look nicer for your job interview so
you will have the money to find a new apartment."
I take Kelly's little hand and point towards the bar stool by the kitchen
counter. I watch as he is having a hard time climbing up, so I put my
arms under his arms and pick him up and put him on the barstool. I turn
and leave to get the hair stuff before he can whine.
"Kelly let me help you with your hair tie." I put the pink smock around
his neck tying it. I pull out his long hair tie and brush his hair. Kelly
always loved when I brushed his hair, he always got so relaxed, just like
he is starting to do now. I make his long hair that goes all the way down
past his shirt and is touching his bottom.
I look at Kelly and his eyes are opening and closing so I will see if he
is listening to me. "Okay Kelly I'm putting your hair tie back in now
that I brushed your hair." I look at Kelly's face and he is just smiling
as I put his hair tie back in, but this time I don't push the hair tie up
to his neck, I leave the hair tie much lower like below his shoulders. I
get my sharpest scissors smiling at little Kelly, and I open the scissors
and put them above his hair tie. I cut his long ponytail off as I smile
knowing I can help someone when I can donate the over three-foot-long
ponytail of thick gorgeous hair. The only thing holding his old ponytail
is now held together by the hair ties. I put it down on the counter
quickly putting it in a bag so he doesn't see it.
"Oh, yes Kelly your hair is starting to look so much better already."
Thinking to myself I could just buzz all his hair off like I want to but
I made him a promise. I have an idea I will cut and style his hair so he
will want to get a buzz cut or crew cut himself.
I start trimming his hair up on the sides, as I go in front I cut his
bangs short like his little sister has. I continue cutting his hair all
the way around. I stand back and curl his hair under as it curls towards
little Kelly's neck. Oh, yes much better as I stare at the new hairstyle
my 18-year-old son now has. I giggle to myself that instead of his long
hair being down to his bottom any more he now has a short bob hairstyle
like I had when I was a little girl and just like his little sister has
now, but Kelly is smaller than her. I gave him the most girly of girl's
hairstyles I could think of.
"Okay Kelly your hair looks so much prettier, I mean nicer. Why don't I
find you something to wear for your interview today. You said it was for
stocking the shelves at Macy's department store. So I will just find you
some regular shorts and a tee shirt, then after you get changed I'll
drive you over there for your interview sweetie."
I leave and go into the garage, and I find boxes of all of Mileys old
clothes that were going to be donated to the less fortunate. I will put
them in Kelly's old room. "Kelly come upstairs to your old room and make
it quick so you can get changed, then we can go to your interview before
they close."
"Okay I am coming." I walk slower upstairs rubbing my eyes as I see mommy
emptying box after box of Mileys old clothes on my old bed. Mommy holds
up three pairs of shorts, one pair is pink, one pair is white with pink
flowers and one is bright yellow.
I look at them and they all three looks so girly. "I guess the yellow
pair is least girly looking mommy I guess." I see momma smiling as she
puts a yellow top with small flowers on it with puffy sleeves and
matching lace ruffled socks.
"Kelly there are matching sandals downstairs. So hurry up and get changed
as quick as you can. I know all your clothes and personal items were
destroyed in the fire so this is the best clothes I can do for you
sweetie. I will shut your bedroom door so you can get changed. After you
get changed and we will drive over to Macy's really quick and see if that
job is still available."
I hear mommy saying and she starts to leave. I sit down on my bed rubbing
my eyes. Oh, shit I am still so stoned but I'm glad my mom hasn't noticed
yet. If I can get this job I will be able to find a new apartment once I
get a couple pay checks, saying to myself. I look through the clothes and
they are all my little sister's clothes I have to wear, as I pick up the
pink silky panties with Disney princesses all over them. I guess no one
will see them under my clothes. "Are you ready yet Kelly?" I hear mommy
yell up from the bottom of the staircase.
"Almost momma I am putting my knew shorts on now. I will be downstairs in
a minute." I slide the bright yellow lace socks up my feet as fast as I
could while I pull the girly shirt over my head with my tiny thin arms
popping through the puffy sleeves. I keep trying to pull the tiny bright
yellow short shorts up and down making sure my panties are covered.
I stare at these shorts closer; I look down at myself, and my knew shorts
have no pockets or belt loops, not even a zipper. I pull the tiny yellow
short shorts on and run down the stairs seeing mommy staring at me
smiling.
"Okay sweetie sit back up here on the bar stool and I will help you with
your new shoes." I do as mommy asks; I am rubbing my eyes still as I
don't notice mommy cuffing the bright yellow lace socks on my feet that
barely cover my ankles now. I don't see the matching yellow sandals she
buckles to my feet. I look at them remembering Miley wearing black ones
like these with her school uniform not knowing they're called Mary Janes
shoe style.
I look down at mommy fixing my socks smiling up at me, while I stare into
her eyes. "Okay Kelly let's hurry before they close for the day." I feel
mommy take my hand and we are walking to her SUV before I can blink. I
get in the front passenger seat and mommy backs out of our driveway. Five
minutes later we are pulling into the mall parking lot, and park at the
closest spot we can find. We get out and walk through the doors of Macys
as the guard is holding the door open for us. I smile at the people
around us.
"Let me help you ladies and have a nice day," the guard says as I stop
and try to download what he said.
We walk into the Human resource department as I look at the job board
that has all the openings on it. "I don't see the stock shelfs position
open any more momma." Momma shakes her head but still smiles at me up and
down as I talk.
"Oh, excuse me ladies, I overheard what you said and sweetie that
position has already been filled, but I do have an opening downstairs in
the restaurant if you are interested?"
Did she say ladies I am thinking to myself as I see mommy is looking at
me to respond to the lady. "Ummm yes I am interested ma'am, I am looking
for any type of position."
"Great sweetie, we actually have an opening that you could start right
now if you would like? You only have to fill out this paperwork and I can
get your new work uniform. The last thing we want is for you to mess up
that cute knew outfit you're wearing sweetie."
I look at the old lady putting a bunch of paperwork on the counter for me
and a clipboard and pen. "Well this is great Kelly, you can start today
and you will be able to start making money right away." The woman comes
back and has a large bag she puts down in the chair next to me.
"I think I heard your mom calling you Kellie. After you finish the
paperwork you can go change in the family restroom and put your new
uniform on. You may need your mom's help since the buttons are in the
back sweetie. The bag has six uniforms so you can wear six sets, then
bring them back in while you wear the last set and we can have them
washed or your mom can wash them if she has time."
I rub my eyes filling the paperwork out while mommy looks in the bag with
my new uniforms smiling at me. "Yes ma'am I don't mind washing Kelly's
knew uniforms at all."
"Great then I will add another $2 dollars an hour to your salary since
you will be cleaning your own clothes. Congratulations Kellie you just
received your first raise and you haven't even started since your mom has
volunteered to wash your uniforms."
I smile hearing I'm making more money already, as I smile at my mom for
her volunteering to wash my knew uniforms.
"Okay well I'm done for the day and when you change into your new uniform
just go downstairs to the restaurant and tell them today is your first
day. I sent her an email with your name and position. Good luck and
welcome to Macy's sweetie."
I stand up to shake the woman's hand and instead she hugs me and smiles
as she leaves. "Okay Kelly you heard the nice lady, let's get your new
uniform on and you can start your first day. When your day is over you
can call me, and I can come pick you up sweetie." I stand up and we walk
into the family bathroom and mommy turns me around so my back is to the
full-length mirror.
"Okay sweetie lift your arms up and I will take the pretty top off of
you, I mean your new shirt." I do as I am told as I stand there with
nothing on above my shorts. "Here sweetie this is a knew kind of tee
shirt called a camisole. They are much more comfortable than the normal
cotton undershirts you used to wear."
I motion to little Kelly to lift his arms up again. I lift my arms up
again and I feel mommy pulling my knew uniform shirt over my head. I push
my thin arms through the puffy sleeves as I notice mommy unbuckling my
knew shoes. "These yellow shoes, and socks don't match you're knew
uniform little Kelly, but the uniform is complete and comes with matching
shoes and socks."
"That's great mommy, I mean mom. I'm so tired I hope I do good on my
first day." I feel mommy pulling my socks and shoes off. I then feel
mommy reaching up underneath my knew work uniform shirt and starts
sliding my bright yellow short shorts off.
I look up at mommy smiling at me. "You won't need these shorts anymore
once you're fully dressed in your new uniform sweetie." Mommy leans back
down and I feel her putting new socks and shoes on my feet. I look down
and the socks she put on my feet are light red, almost pink, but I think
they are lite red not pink and matching shoes which look just like my
Mary Jane shoes I was wearing before. I even noticed my new shoes have
the same buckle, just a lite red or pink color that matches my long shirt
mommy already pulled down over me as I rub my eyes.
"Wow sweetie you look so cute in your knew uniform, I guess we were both
right this is the new you and starting a new job on the same day you
applied is a really good sign."
While mommy was talking to me she put my outfit in the bag with the rest
of my new work uniforms. We start walking out of the family restroom and
we turn and we are in front of the Macy's restaurant. I notice mommy
looking at me.
I stare at Kelly up and down and he is rubbing his eyes not even looking
at his knew work uniform he is now wearing.
"Okay sweetie have a good day at your new job. I am very proud of you
taking this new job. I wasn't sure I wanted you moving back home but
after seeing the new you I made the right decision. Now off you go, I see
a lady waving for you to come over there, she must have noticed you
wearing your new uniform. Remember call me when you get off work unless
you want to walk home."
I smile at Kelly. "Thanks again momma I won't let you down." Kelly turns,
and I watch him walk away rubbing his eyes as I see him dressed in his
new work uniform. I was hoping he would see a mirror with his new short
bob hairstyle and now him wearing his new uniform which is for his new
job as a waitress. Seeing him wearing the short pink girly dress that is
at least ten inches above his knees, or I should say her knees. The dress
also has a pretty big bow in the back and the large puffy sleeves and two
big pockets in the front. I just smile at how truly girly he looks now. I
thought he would look like a boy wearing a dress, but instead he looks
like any other girl wearing her new dress.
I wave at Kelly as I see the woman waving at me as Kelly is hearing the
lady talking to him and must be finding out he is their new waitress. I
wonder what he will be saying when I pick him up from work. I guess he
might be begging to give him a buzz cut once he notices he has the
girliest hairstyle there is. Or he might be happy with his new hairstyle
and pretty dress uniform he has to wear to work now hehehe.
