Ellie glanced down at her written directions once more and then back out the window.

And with it ticking up more and more every second, at this rate she might have to ask for an advance on her first day to cover the fare. Not the sort of first impression that she wished to make on her new employers, the Forges.

Just then the cab turned another corner and a large stone and iron gate blocked their path. Behind it a large house could be seen. A camera mounted on the gate turned and focused on the car. What appeared to be an intercom in a small stone pillar next to the gate crackled to life as the cabbie rolled his window down.

“What can I do for you Lenny?” A feminine voice asked over the speaker.

Ellie looked on as “Lenny” leaned out the window to answer.

“Hello Mrs. Forge, I got your new maid here, uh….”

“Ellie” Ellie piped up.

“…Ellie. She says you are expecting her.” Lenny finished.

“Oh yes of course. Let me open the gate and you can bring her right to the front door.”

The gate opener shuddered to life as the gate was pulled aside to allow them entry.

Ellie pondered the exchange her cab driver and her new employer had just engaged in as the vehicle rolled toward her new home.

“Do you know the Forges well?” she asked

Lenny let out a single chuckle.

“Ha, hardly at all really. I know they are loaded, but that’s pretty common knowledge. I see the wife out and about in town sometimes, doing her errands I suppose. Guess that will be your job now, haha. But damn, is she a fine ass women if I do say so myself.”

Ellie rolled her eyes. “ But she knew your name though.”

Lenny shrugs as the cab slowed under the car port. “I don’t know HER first name, and that’s the truth. From what I have heard from others she seems to know most people’s names around here, but it’s a small town.”

Ellie considered this as she pulled the latch to open the door but nothing happened.

“Excuse me” She said as she indicated the locked door.

“Excuse me” Lenny echoed as he tapped the fare indicator. It read $173.14

Fuck! Ellie thought to herself. She only had 150 in cash on her. She handed him the wad of cash. As he started to count it she said.

“That’s all I have on me. I have my bank card, or maybe I could write you a check….”

Lenny finished counting the cash and then turned to smile slyly at her.
