“Well, that depends on how she gets them, and how much private coaching she needs. I only get coaching now a month or so before a competition mostly, and I get it with the group I’m in. That is one on one, and I don’t want to think what my parents pay for that. But most rinks have semi-group lessons for around $40 a month. That includes 2 and a half hours of lessons, normally 4 or 5 people per group, once a week. She’ll get around 30 minutes or so of personal attention each week, and it includes a 3 hour open skate session right afterwards.

She’s now working on skating backwards and more complex foot movements. For most, I would say it takes 5 to 6 months to move up to the next step. By then, she’ll have to learn more advanced steps, foot turns, and much more advanced backwards skating.”

Most of that is stuff I mastered by the time I was around 7, and I’ve worked as an assistant coach in my club teaching that to younger k**s. So I’ll have no problem teaching that to her. So depending on how fast she advances, probably 4 months at the absolute soonest, but more likely 6 months. Then she may be ready for the advanced class. But for that she has to be tested in.”

“Nobody moves to advanced without being tested. She’ll have to take at least 3 or 4 intermediate classes no matter what, and have the coach approve her for promotion. Then she’ll have to actually perform a basic routine and show that she has mastered everything they teach. Although actually, I would be above that if there was a level above that. That’s as far as the progression of lessons progresses, it’s all individual one on one after that. But these are all sanctioned by the Roller Skating Association, which is a national body. If she’s promoted out of intermediate to advanced for example here at Parthenia, she could take her certificate to say Moonlight and take her advanced lessons there. She would only have to test in informally for a coach, to show she actually has mastered what’s required.”

“Well, that depends on how she gets them, and how much private coaching she needs. I only get coaching now a month or so before a competition mostly, and I get it with the group I’m in. That is one on one, and I don’t want to think what my parents pay for that. But most rinks have semi-group lessons for around $40 a month. That includes 2 and a half hours of lessons, normally 4 or 5 people per group, once a week. Although actually, I would be above that if there was a level above that. That’s as far as the progression of lessons progresses, it’s all individual one on one after that. But these are all sanctioned by the Roller Skating Association, which is a national body. If she’s promoted out of intermediate to advanced for example here at Parthenia, she could take her certificate to say Moonlight and take her advanced lessons there. She would only have to test in informally for a coach, to show she actually has mastered what’s required.”
