I was on my way to meet two white married couples who had chosen to have interracial offspring, instead of their husbands fathering them. I'd been trying to arrange such a meeting for about three months. However, at first, these two couples were unsure if I was trustworthy, and I understood that perfectly well, and so I tried my very best to gain their trust; and eventually, I did. Then, at the last moment, I was informed that not only were these two couples going to meet with me to answer my questions about their lifestyle choices, but that the guy that had actually father their offspring had agreed to meet with me as well!
I had had no idea that these two couples had availed themselves of the same man to father their babies, and so I was excited to see what he might have to say about this interesting and intriguing, and increasingly popular lifestyle choice that seemed especially popular among not just younger generations of whites, but also within certain older married white couples as well.
I was particularly interested to know if there was some sort of connection, direct, or indirect, to the ever-growing BlackLivesMatter movement, and recent police v******e against African Americans in general, and African American males in particular.
The place I was meeting both these couples, and the father of their offspring, was one of the couples homes in a fairly nice suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. I was greeted at the front door by a smiling blond of about 40 years of age, by the name of Margot. It was she and her husband Rick's home.
In the living room there was the other married couple, Susan and Steve. Margot introduced me to her husband, Rick, and then to the other couple, Susan and Steve, and then to the younger black man, Dax. I thanked them all for allowing me to interview them. What follows is a somewhat edited version of the interview that afternoon.

First off, thank you all for agreeing to meet me! Thanks for your willingness to do this.
I guess the most obvious place to start would be for me to ask each of you, Margot, and Rick; and Susan and Steve, how you came to the decision to have an interracial c***d instead of through your own husbands efforts?
A.
Margot---Rick and I have always been troubled by the South's legacy of racism, but more than that, but by it's tenacious persistence. So, even with all the Civil Rights legislation that was passed, racism merely went underground for a great many Southerners we knew and lived among.
When we decided to get married, it was actually Rick's idea (at first) that to do something really revolutionary, and radical about racism, and as Southerners especially, that deciding to have interracial c***dren, instead of them being white, would be both unmistakably visible, and undeniable, to the rest of our Southern citizens. But having a black baby wasn't just for political reasons (that would be a terrible thing), but because we both really wanted to have the opportunity to love, and cherish, such a 'mixed race' c***d! We wanted that to prove to our fellow Southerners that the color of the c***d's skin had no bearing on anything really; and that it was HUMAN, and therefore worthy of love!
You could talk and talk and talk all day long about that as an IDEA, but we wanted to do something that was far more than words. We wanted demonstrate that idea in the ONLY way that made it REAL. Flesh and blood real.
Rick---That's exactly the way we thought of it. Like Margot just said: Talking about such a thing as neutralizing racism is easy. But words were never going to be enough. Not even a set of laws were, ultimately, going to be enough! So taking it to the next step...as in interracial procreation...was the only significant option that either of us could see that would be of a permanent impact on the society of the South's long, and sad history of racism. So we decided to deliberately cross that most fundamental of barriers, that has always been the deepest, and most potent fear that lurks at the very heart and soul of the system of white supremacy---which is the mingling of the 'races' through sexual contact.

Would you agree with what Margo and Rick have said? (Referring to Susan and Steve)
A.
Susan---Oh absolutely. Without a doubt.
Steve---I definitely concur! Yes. Sex between the 'races' is the biggest fear that has guided and driven the crimes whites have perpetrated against blacks here for centuries. In fact, I think that this particular fear is THE most defining characteristic in any society that is based on white racial 'superiority.' Southerners have always been incredibly obsessed by black sexuality (from the very first slaves brought over here)! Typically, most Southerners would deny this, but there is a lot in the historical record (diaries, letters, etc.) that clearly show that there was a massive, and immediate paranoia about the sexuality of blacks, and black men in particularly, by the Planter class in the South.
Ironically, the fear of black male slaves r****g white women has never been strongly supported by the facts. If anything, white men r****g black females is far, far more factual than the other way around. That's a fact. There is the famous case of Thomas Jefferson, himself, who messed around with a black woman. Sally Hemings, who he had inherited from his father. So, there has always been this strange fear of blacks, on the one hand, and yet a persistent attraction, and fascination with them, by whites; and sex was, by far, the biggest reason! And another ironic thing about all that is when you forbid someone to do something (Don't Walk On The Grass, etc.) human beings want to do it BECAUSE they've been told not to! The same with the prohibition against sex between whites and blacks. Forbid it, and someone WILL do it, or try! Prohibition almost anything will create a demand for that very thing being prohibited. It's human nature.

Dax---I do.

So what made you interested in 'fathering' an offspring with two different white married couples? Sex?
A.
Dax---I'd be lying if I said sex wasn't a big part of the attraction! But there was more to it than just sex.

Such as?
A.
Dax---Such as breaking a LONG held taboo in the South against whites and blacks being in sexual relationships; and also...the idea of making a baby with a (willing!) white female, a Southern white female, and particularly a married Southern white female---THAT was impossible to pass up. But what man, given such an opportunity, wouldn't be at least strongly tempted to do that? Remember---it was Steve and Rick who broached the subject to me. Not the other way around. Okay?

So now that you've fathered c***dren with Margot and Susan, how do you feel about that?
A.
Dax---I feel just fine! I have no regrets, if that's what you want to know.

Would you do this again? With either Margot or Susan, or even with some other white woman seeking an interracial c***d?

Dax---(Smiles) Absolutely. Why wouldn't I?

How do you regard Rick and Steve? I mean, as men. Do you regard them AS men?

Dax---Yeah, of course I regard them as men.

But they wanted YOU to father their wives babies. Doesn't that make you feel, somehow, superior to them, as men?

Dax---I haven't really given it much thought, to be honest. Ask them how they feel about that.

(Turning to Steve and Rick) So, how about it? Do either of you regard Dax as 'superior', as more 'manly', for having fathered your wives babies, instead of yourselves?
A.
Steve---Yes. In a way, I do feel that way. But you see, this has been the greatest fear, the biggest threat that whites (in the South, but other places as well) have felt the most concerned about---namely their sexual inferiority to blacks. It's a deep insecurity that lies at the very bottom (I think) of the entire White Supremacy 'system' (he makes air quotation marks).
Personally, I think black men do tend to be more 'manly', more sexually vigorous, than a lot of white men. But if you think about the odds that blacks, and especially black men, have had to live with every day of their lives, and for centuries, is it any wonder that they have compensated for that, and risen above their oppressors? And oppressors are ALWAYS going to be worried, fearful of, and paranoid about those they are oppressing! So, sure my white Southern ancestors were always, in one way or another, looking over their shoulders, so to speak, at the surrounding slave population! Guilt, real, true guilt, seems to always breed more fear, more paranoia, and more oppression and v******e. It's an ugly, ugly cycle, that once your caught up in it, it's harder and harder to escape from it! It's a racial black hole.
That's what my wife and I wanted to do SOMETHING to start to disrupt that ugly system; and having Dax bring about a baby through her womb (the very thing that was always the most feared by my fellow white Southerners), was, for us, the only thing we could do to promote that.
And, no. I do NOT regret that decision. Not one bit. In fact, Susan and I discussing having another mixed-race c***d very soon!

Will Dax be the father?
A.
Steve---If he's willing, Susan and I are! (He smiles over at where Dax is setting listening to all this. Dax smiles as well.).
